Airport Express connection problem

I have an old Airport Express I can not connect to.  My utility program Airport says that it does not support this Airport Express device.

The version of AirPort Utility which is required to administer the old 802.11 g AirPort Express does not work with newer versions of Mac OS X or on iOS devices. You would need either a Mac OS X lion or earlier, or a PC running Windows XP or 7 that does not have the correct version for this base station.

In addition, a base station that old was its useful life and it can be much simpler to replace it with a newer model.

  • Airport Express connects to my WiFi bridge

    Hello world

It is searched many Web pages and throughout the Apple support forums, but I still could not understand...

I bought recently Airport Express to extend my Wifi in another room and thus use it for AirPlay. My existing WiFi network is set up by the router, Asus RT - N12 (it is connected to our modem from the vendor to the scale of home - isn't available). I want to my Airport Express to work as bridge, connected to the existing network and to serve as extension and receiver airplay.

It works only when I connect Airport Express via LAN cable to the Asus router and set it as the new network. This is not convenient because it is located near the router and does not provide any additional coverage to our Wifi.

I tried to set up the base Airport Express "Extend existing network." But once set, it REQUIRES connection via cable. To connect to the existing WiFi network, there is NO other choice. This option is missing in the Airpot utility, so I can't select the Wifi to connect to.

In addition, when I connect to the Airport Express Terminal cable to the WAN port (which is our wall of our home modem), you do not find the internet connection for some reason any (while Asus has no question to do).

I'm quite desperate here. I already think to buy Airport Extreme. But I don't know if he will be able to connect to the internet for the same reason. And, it is five times more expensive. Everything else works with Asus without problems and additional parameters. iPhones, iPads, Apple TV, Android phones, Mac Pro, laptops Windows (except old 3G iPhone that says that it cannot connect to the network).

Any ideas where to look for a solution? None of the settings in our modem Asus to allow the airport as bridge recommended? And, above all, WHY is configuring lack the ability to connect to the existing Wifi network and wants to connect via cable ONLY?

    Thank you...

I want to my Airport Express to work as bridge, connected to the existing network and to serve as extension and receiver airplay.

Unfortunately, function of "extend a wireless network" Apple is an exclusive feature that has been designed by Apple for only wireless "extend" the signal of another Apple wireless router.

Or, another way of saying the same thing would be to say that, if you want to extend the wireless network, you will need two routers Apple for this purpose.

In other words, the function 'extend' is not compatible with 3rd party routers, so the only way that you will be able to get the Express at work... or any other router from Apple, incidentally... would do what you did and plug the Express using a wired Ethernet cable connection.  If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, then you can take a look at a pair of Ethernet over Powerline (EOP) adapters to eventually send the signal on power lines the existing AC in your House.

If you only want to use the AirPort Express for AirPlay, it might be possible for the Express to 'join' the wireless network... but the Express won't provide any additional wireless signal coverage by joining a wireless network.

  • Airport Express connection speed

I have 40 MB/s internet speed down.  I have a new modem century link (recently moved home - new internet service) feed my Airport express.   Until a few days ago I received all 40 Mbps through my Airport Express wireless.  Now it is capped to 10 for some reason any.  The only thing that has changed is that I had to power cycle my modem to redirect a couple power cords in my basement.  When I connect my computer to the same ethernet cable that feeds the Airport express I get the full 40.  I tried to restart everything. I tried all channels 2,4 ghz manual on the express (I didn't configured 5 GHz because I really don't need right now).  I don't know why its running at 10 and not 40 like a few days ago.

What is the brand and model of your modem provided by century link? What exact model is your base station AirPort Express? Is the Express directly connected to the modem by Ethernet?

  • How to document iMac to my apple tv 2, but sending audio to the Airport express connected to my hifi

I have an iMac, a macmini an express airport. I want to send 720 p video to the Apple TV 2 iMac (or macmini) but send audio to the express from the airport which is connected to my stereo. If the apple TV 2 will serve as a video receiver connected to my projector on the ceiling. (I don't have a way to use a hdmi cable). This is the reason why audio must be sent to the hifi differently.  Alternatevely because the macmini is connected by USB cable to my hifi (to my dac), perhaps there is a way to send audio from a movie to the stereo through audio external USB card (it is the dac) while reflecting the macmini for the Apple TV 2...

in iTunes, you can select more then 1 speaker output could be the express and then mirrored to the appletv in the manner of STDS, if is not in iTunes then I think that you need a third party such as the wing option

  • Airport extreme connectivity problems

I got in and out of trouble with my Airport Extreme, which is less than two years. I started to lose the connection to the internet for 4 months now. Now, I get different errors that my extreme is overheating and another mistake he lost the DNS information for my Cox internet service. I'm running 7.7.3 and of course impossible to change the firmware. The only way I can solve the problem when it comes to the top is to do a reset on the extreme and wifi Setup. Is there anything else I can do to fix this?

Cox has implemented IPv6 services in its system, which has been designed to be compatible with existing equipment. Unfortunately, Cox has now established that airport routers are not compatible with the changes they put in place.

If you want to be able to use the new IPv6 service that Cox has put in place, you need to replace the routers of the airport with another brand that Cox recommends.

If you want disable iPv6 Cox service, then this can be done on the router from Apple... and can help with your problems of connection. After the back if you want to try this.

  • iTunes 12.3.3.17 plays do not through Airport Express

    Hello

I currently have a playing difficult music through my Airport Express. Current configuration: MacBook Pro (2012) with OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 using iTunes 12.3.3.17 and an Airport Express (7.6.5 - connected to my stereo) Terminal and Airport (6.3.6) utility.

I had initially the MacBook to the Airport Express connection problems and after a search on the topics of discussion found that I had to change the network settings (System Preferences > network > advanced > TCP/IP by changing parameters IPv6 off automatically or link-local only) solved this problem. Unfortunately, the only solution similar to what I was trying to do involved by turning the setting off IPv6, who then arrested the MBP talk to EI.

iTunes has the choice to connect to Airport Express Terminal, but when I try I get the error message "an error occurred when connecting to the device. Airplay." The network connection timed out. »

Is your AirPort Express the only router in your current network configuration or is there another wireless router to which it is connected? If Yes, what is the make and model of this another router? If there is another router, the Express is configured to join its wireless network or to extend it?

  • I have an Airport Express, which gives an unexpected error message when you try to connect to an existing network of WEP.  Any ideas.  Tried the factory returned. He was knocked offline when someone dug into the telco cables.

I have an Airport Express, which gives an unexpected error message when you try to connect to a router WEP (Verizon) existing iOS9.3.2

It flashes orange, but can not be reconnected to the router or to the title of the Setup Assistant or Airport utility.  Is there a way to reconnect to WIFI or should I bite the bullet and connect via Cat5e and be done with it.  My VPN works much better without AirPort Express connected.

Sorry, but there is no WEP settings AirPort Utility on the iPhone or iPad, or any Mac version of AirPort Utility which was used for the last 4 years or so.

If you have an older Mac still running AirPort 5.x utility or a PC with the AirPort for Windows utility installed on the device, the WEP settings that could be used to get the Express to connect to a WEP network there.

As you know, WEP has not been secured for a number of years, and there are any number of free utilities available on the Internet, which is crack a WEP network in a few seconds. Thus, all those who want to be on your network will not have problems to do very quickly.

  • Connect AirPort Express to lemon (Rogers Rocket) Wireless Modem/Router

I just got Rogers Wireless internet new modem/router Hitron.  I use modem/router mode.  It's great. Very fast and a lot of range. Covers all 3 floors of my house.

I want to connect an Apple Terminal to my Hitron router with an ethernet cable and put the Hitron in Bridge mode. I want to continue to use the Hitron router as my main and only router.

However on another floor, I would use an Apple Airport Express connected to my stereo with a jack 1/8 '' to play my music wirelessly from my iTunes from Apple.

To do this, I need this Apple Airport Express Terminal to 'find' the Hitron router.  How can I get to find the router Hitron?

I guess that you have a current version or recent of the AirPort Express with the default settings.

As long as the AirPort Express is located where it can receive a strong signal of the modem/router...and wireless Hitron the Hitron aircraft provides a wireless signal that uses industry standard wireless settings, the AirPort Express can 'join' the wireless network. Wired Ethernet is not necessary.

Note that the AirPort Express will not "spread" or "repeat" the signal from the router/modem lemon to provide additional coverage of wireless signal wireless, but it can be used to join the wireless network and provide a signal of airtime for your stereo.

Simply use a Mac running a current or recent operating system, or an iPhone/iPad and configuration "Wizard" Apple to set up things upward. The wizard will automatically offer the correct configuration to 'join' the wireless network. All you really need to do is to enter a device name that you want to use for the AirPort Express and the password of the wireless network and confirm.

Start the wizard by clicking on AirPort Express under the title of the new AirPort base station.

On an iPhone or iPad, the screen looks like this:

In the example below, the wizard has detected a network named "2WIRE902" for the AirPort Express join. You will see the name of the wireless network that provides the Hitron modem/router on your screen. Just enter a name of device for the Express, then type the wireless network password, then type it again to verify.

Click next at the bottom right of the window and the AirPort Express displays a green light for a minute or two and you're done.

  • Using airplay on airport express with wired connections

    Hello world

I think in a very special configuration and I was wondering if it would work or not.

I have a Linksys router with 802.11ac ability now. I wish I had a pregnant airplay on my network, so I thought buy a used Airport express, connect the speakers to it and plug the Airport express via a LAN cable to the linksys router. I also think to turn off wifi on the Airport express so it does not disturb my 802.11ac network.

So the question is: is it possible to have the airport base station to connect to my router Linksys on LAN and airplay works this way on the Linksys WiFi network?

    Thank you

    Zoltan

In theory, it works... but you will have to set up the AirPort Express to create a wireless first, then go back and turn off the wireless feature.

Ensure that the Express is a common pattern of A1392, or the previous version of A1264. Much A1084 most, it's not what you want.

  • Make an express airport only connect to an another AE and not the main Time Capsule.

    Hi all

I have a Time Capsule airport and 2 Airport Express. The Capsule is far and an of the expressed airport is in the middle (call this) 1 and the other far from it, I'm calling this 2. As it is now, the 2nd Airport Express terminal connects to Time Capsule. However, it gives me much lower speed (Interruptions during the game). But if the 2nd Airport Express connects to the AE first, which is the extension of the network of transport CANADA, significantly improves the speed.

I've tried everything. All devices are relatively new (think of the last model). I called the Apple Support, but their solution was to any wire. I asked if the 2nd AE can be configured statically, but they have quoted me their policy, which is not supported and took my info and never called back. I read the posts of the forum, but could not find any relevant information.

Can someone tell me how I can do the 2nd AE connect only to the AE 1 (in the middle) so I can get faster speed for the game device wired to the 2nd AE? Your feedback is much appreciated.

    Kind regards

    B.

When you try to extend using the wireless, there will be a loss of speed associated with the process.

When the two Airport Express connect to Time Capsule, it will be more loss of speed because the 2 devices are connecting and extending.

If the 2nd Airport Express does not connect to... Time Capsule and it connect instead to the 1st AirPort Express... then 2nd Terminal AirPort Express doesn't have to extend the network.  The 2nd Airport Express could be used for AirPlay, or to connect to a remote printer on the USB port, but it cannot 'expand' or 'repeat' in this case the signal of the wireless network.

So you're wrong bing into thinking that the network is the extension more quickly if the 2nd Express connects to the 1st. Your network will behave at the faster speed even if you just turn off the 2nd Express.  It is not at all in any case extending the network, and you don't need.

Here's another way to look at the same thing... using an illustration of the Apple support document for the extension of a network:

IF... you can connect the 1st Terminal AirPort Express at the time using an Ethernet cable Capsule... then... the 2nd Airport Express would extend the signal from the first... but speed would be because you are trying to extend using the wireless.

SO... connect the AirPort Express devices using Ethernet... then you will have maximum coverage at the highest speed... Since there is no loss of signal via the Ethernet cable.

  • New airport Time Capsule is not connect to Airport Express more.

When I just upgraded my Airport Extreme for a time Capsule of the airport, I lost my connection to the Airport Express connected to my stereo to allow playback Airtunes wireless. Airport utility is really different and shows that the new ATC.

    Help?

Ok. It seems that my Express and my old extreme are no longer supported by Apple? Come on guys! I tried the Airport utility download stuff to my phone, but that did not work. Alternative workaround so I did not in the trash with a value of $400 of perfectly functional base stations? I just want to have Airplay again. GRRRR.

  • Best config Time Capsule - Airport Express

    Hi all.

My home network at present are as follows:

    -My ISP, with a disabled Wi - Fi router;

-Mac and PC connected via ethernet cables using the router's LAN ports.

-Airport Express (WAN port) connected by ethernet to a LAN port of the router that gives Wi - fi in the House: note that the router and AirPort Express are in different rooms (router: bedroom, AirPort Express: living room)

I want to add a time Capsule to my network, but I want to put in the living room, where the Express is at the moment. I don't have a single cable ethernet connecting the bedroom to the living room because there is not enough space in the walls of two sons.

    What I would do is:

    -Time capsule in the living room, connected via an ethernet cable to the router, generating the signal Wi - Fi;

-AirPort Express connected by ethernet to a LAN port of the router, which extends signal Wi - Fi in the bedroom.

This configuration can work? And how? Should I use the same SSID?

If this is not possible, my only option is to connect the Time Capsule via ethernet to the router and then connect the WAN port on the Express to a port of time Capsule, right? Would not be my best installation in the House, but if it's the only one that works, I'll go with it. If I didn't have the problem of the single cable connecting the two rooms, everything would be super easy. Extending Wi - Fi wireless is not in my case, having this second wired option.

    Any other suggestion is appreciated!

    What I would do is:

    -Time capsule in the living room, connected via an ethernet cable to the router, generating the signal Wi - Fi;

-AirPort Express connected by ethernet to a LAN port of the router, which extends signal Wi - Fi in the bedroom.

This configuration can work? And how? Should I use the same SSID?

Of course, it works very well. Download Time Capsule set up and running using Apple "Installation Wizard", and then reset the Express back to the settings by default and set up using Configuration Apple "Assistant" as well.

The wizard will affect automatically the same SSID and password to the AirPort Express, which uses the Capsule, so by default, you will have what is called a "mobile network". For the configuration, I would recommend that you temporarily connect the Express to the time Capsule using a short Ethernet cable to spare before you run the installer... no matter how long will do.  Connect from a port LAN <>- on the Time Capsule to the "O" in L'Express WAN port. Once the Express is set up, you can move it to the location of the router to establish Ethernet connection here.

If for any reason, you want the AirPort Express to use a different SSID as the time Capsule, you can use AirPort Utility to go back and change the SSID (and the password as well if you want) on the AirPort Express Terminal.
