Airport Extreme cannot connect to 1000base t

Description:

Hi all.  My ISP is Cox Communications in the South of Louisiana.  I am currently subscribed to get 200 Mbps download speed.  I have an Arris Surfboard 6190 cable Modem.  Ethernet is connected to an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac, who then goes to my iMac (2011) as a high school Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac (network extension).

The problem.  Modem guard fall signal forcing me to reset the modem about 3 times / day.  Level 2 of Cox support said I need set the local IPv6.  This modification of the parameter stop the Modem from falling (in the process to test this now).

2nd problem.  My iMac, nor either routers Apple will connect higher than 100base T.  I can see it in the utility network on the iMac.  The support of Cox who sees so.  However, when I connect the Airport Extreme directly to the Modem, Cox support can see that it is a Gigabit device, but after a few seconds, he is down to 100base T.  If I try to manually connect to 1000Base T on the iMac... it will not connect.

Is there something that I am missing in my settings on the routers or the iMac?

It is known of problems between all a single serial port SB modems and routers from the airport...

There is no solution... or is defective, but they hate just each other.

The best solution is the replacement of the modem or the router.

We have been recommending the brand zoom but with Cox even modem that can not solve the problem... so I recommend a different router for now... a cheap... it will work quite low-end... TP-Link WR1043ND v2 or v3 for example... It is aprox $50 on Amazon. You can still use the airport bridge and work with Mac protocols for wireless AP.

Normally, you could fill the AE to the new router, but you can give it a more active role... See the static IP address.

  • AirPort utility cannot connect

I have an Airport Extreme base station which is about a year.  I have several devices connected to the internet via laptop from Samsung, I type this question with this router.  If I run AirPort (windows) v5.6.1 utility he finds the base station (says it's the 7.7.3 version if it's helpful).  When I select 'continue' to try to change the settings, it says it is reading from the device and then gives an error message "an error has occurred while trying to access the device wireless to Apple."  Make sure your network connection is valid and try again. "There are a number of error 10057.  Notable, that he never asks the device password.

Also, I tried to use the utility AirPort 6.3.2 MacBook Pro from my wife.  With this device, I tried to connect via ethernet cable and wireless.  He sees not the device--even if it is not connected to the internet.

I rebooted the computer and the router, and the behavior does not change.

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

You must reset the Airport Extreme.

Someone might have the installation program the device to lock... changes accidentally even.

I recommend you first do a soft reset.

Press the reset for just 1-2 sec... button the front led will flash amber... This allows you to 5 min of access without security and change all passwords at the factory. That is to say the password main AE will return to the public.

See if you can access it for 5 min, then make the changes you need.

Otherwise you need a full factory reset.

The danger with that is you lose your internet connection and then can't get it back.

    Universal factory reset

Powering down of EI... That is, remove the power supply cord or the power at the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds... Hold the reset button... be nice... Turn on always even now in reset... and keep holding in for another 10 seconds. You may need assistance because it is difficult to hold in reset and power on. It will show the success quickly flashing led front. Release reset... and wait a few minutes for the TC to reset and return with the factory settings. If the front LED flashes quickly you missed and simply try again. The reset is quite fragile in these... Press the key while it is just click away and not more... I've seen people bend lever or even break. I use a toothpick as a tool.

I'm a little surprised that you can't access the extreme via the Mac well.

  • Network with Airport Extreme problems connected to the Linksys switch

I have a wired network in my house.  It has the following configuration: Modem base station Airport Extreme for Linksys switch and then all wired connections.  It is in a wiring closet in a room upstairs.  I have 2 other extremes from the airport, to spread out of the range, but they are currently disabled and disconnected from the network until I have found why I get auto ip address on several of my wired connections.  I have reset the modem, EI and switch.  More wired connections seem to be working very well, but there are 4 or 5 who say that the ethernet cable is connected, but it can not connect to the internet because of a self assigned ip address.  I thought maybe it was a problem with the port of the switch, but when I plugged a cable work in, everything worked again.  Thus, for example, on my iMac, in a study downstairs, I had plugged on the ethernet port in the wall.  He let me only to connect to wireless internet.  He says the ethernet connection had a self assigned ip.  I went upstairs and took the cable from the switch and directly connected to the Airport Extreme, and then connect to this iMac worked fine via ethernet.  So I'm really confused as to why it does not work when it is connected to the switch.  Why are only a few connections ethernet works and others not?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why are only a few connections ethernet works and others not?

Because either you have a bad port on the switch (unlikely, but possible) or a wired Ethernet connection bad, or maybe both ends of several of the Ethernet cables (99% of the time, the problem is in the wiring or connectors Ethernet... not the switch).

But, we must test the switch first and then work from there.  It might be much easier to call a guy from wire or the custom installation specialist to do all this for you, but if you want to give it a try... Here's how.  It is not difficult at this stage, just take some time.

Unplug the switch except the Ethernet cable that connects the AirPort Extreme to each cable Ethernet switch.  Label each Ethernet cable with a number or a letter you can install the wires in their original position on the switch.

Use of a laptop computer with an Ethernet port and a short, spare Ethernet cable... virtually no matter what length will make... and turn off the WiFi on the laptop so it should use Ethernet to connect to Internet.

Test an Ethernet port on the switch with the laptop and the Ethernet cable to make sure that you have get a good Internet connection. If you do so, test the next port of the switch. Continue until all ports of the switch has been tested.  With luck, they will all work.

If this is the case... which is likely... then you know that the Ethernet switch is working properly.

Now things get a little more complicated. Ideally, you have documentation that tells you what Ethernet cable goes to what area of the House. If you don't, just connect the Ethernet cable to the switch... then go to the other end of the Ethernet cable to the wall outlet and connect the computer laptop and short Ethernet cable to the wall socket.

If you have no documentation to indicate where each cable goes, so go ahead and connect all the Ethernet cables to the switch.

Still, make sure that the wireless is disabled on the laptop so that it can only connect to the Internet via an Ethernet connection. Check if you can get a good connection Internet in this way. If you can, then you know that the individual Ethernet cable and the Ethernet port on the wall are working properly...

Test other areas one at a time the same way.  You are very likely going to find Ethernet cables or a wall of ports that do not work properly. The hardest part here is that you... or a wire guy... will have to check the Ethernet cable at both ends to ensure that the Ethernet Sockets have been installed correctly.  It is not easy. The wires are tiny and its easy to get involved.  Installation of new Ethernet cards, it's really a job for an experienced guy who will provide hopefully a cable Tester well when it comes.

Some Ethernet will certainly be replaced.  In rare cases, the cable itself has a break somewhere... and it's not easy to fix something like this, without pulling new cable... that would not be possible according to the House provision.

When you know that all ports on the switch are working and all ports Ethernet wall around the House work... so... we can get the network set in place and working properly.

  • Airport Extreme cannot get dhcp network

    Hello

My main router connected to the internet and to act as a DHCP server, the extreme Apple router can join this network and get IP from the DHCP server normally, but all clients connected to Apple Extreme cable cannot get DHCP.

I tested the same configuration but replace Apple Extreme by an Apple Express, the customer may obtain the DHCP when connect you cable.

Anyone has an idea about this?

    Thank you

    Tuan

My main router connected to the internet and to act as a DHCP server, the extreme Apple router can join this network and get IP from the DHCP server normally, but all clients connected to Apple Extreme cable cannot get DHCP.

Unfortunately, it is because, unlike the AirPort Express, the extreme can serve as a wireless Ethernet bridge to provide wired clients with DHCP.

  • Airport Extreme connected to TIVO: why I can not change Type firewall for IPv4.  Field displays IPv6 and is grayed out so I can't change.

TIVO requires certain ports to be unblocked.  So I try to add the ports requiring TIVO.  But when you try to add the default Type of firewall IPv6 Port Mapping ports and I can't change the value of the IPv4 Port Mapping because the input field is grayed out and no is not accessible.  With Port IPv6 mapping I enter values in all areas except for the IPv6 address because I do not know what value to enter.  I think the button 'save' ' is not available to hit because the IPv6 address field is empty or not valid.  Note: my router Mode is ' Off (Bridge Mode).  Same questions if my router DHCP Mode.

I changed my router Mode DHCP and NAT, then on the Type of firewall on the default page add ports, IPv4 Port Mapping and I could add ports but with this setting, I couldn't connect to internet in my Airport Extreme: my status remains orange light flashing.

I use Comcast and my Airport Extreme is connected to my Comcast router using ethernet.

I use my Airport Extreme as a router (wired and WIRELESS) and as a backup device.

My TIVO is connected to my Airport Extreme using ethernet.

How can I add the Ports requiring TIVO.

Golden in the networking rule. ....... Never try to configure port mapping when you have two devices on the same network the two acting as a router.

Unfortunately, this is exactly what you're trying to do.

    You have three options:

    (1) run the Comcast router "as what" and configure the port on the device of Comcast mapping... .the airPort Extreme must be configured in Bridge Mode when you do this.

    (2) lance to the AirPort Extreme router Mode of DHCP and NAT and configure the ports on the airport map... the peripheral Comcast must be configured to operate as a simple modem in Bridge Mode when you do this.

    (3) lance to the AirPort Extreme router Mode of DHCP and NAT and configure the ports on the airport map... swap Comcast modem/router you have now for a simple modem (it will have only a single Ethernet port).

In other words, either the Comcast is defined as the router and AirPort Extreme is in Bridge Mode... or... the AiPort Extreme is configured as a router and Comcast must be configured in Bridge Mode.

If you choose Option 1, then we can not help you on a matter of Comcast router. In bridged Mode, the AirPort Extreme requires no configuration.

If you choose Option 2 or Option 3, then we the following port values that the Tivo device needs:

    Public or UDP ports

    Public TCP

    UDP private

    Private TCP

In addition, you need to find the MAC address for the TIVO.  It is a long code that looks something like this, for example:

    A1: B2: C3: D4: E5: F6

A link to the Tivo instructions for port mapping would also be very useful.  I have done this with a TIVO in the past, but is for some years.

If all goes well, an expert of TIVO will post to lend a hand.

  • Loading slow web page and with Airport Extreme connection speeds

About 5 days ago, I noticed a significant slow down the loading of web pages. In some cases, I see a blank white screen for up to a minute before the page is loaded. In others, the page never loads at all. And sometimes they load very quickly as expected. This happens with my iMac that is connected to a router via ethernet, as well as my Macbook Air connected via Wifi to Airport Extreme.

    I have a high-speed internet connection by cable Comcast/Xfinity: Blast 250Mbps.

I tried to connect my iMac directly on the model of cable (Arris Surfboard SB6183), and there is no problem. Download speed was 30Mbps 300Mbps and upload.

Then, I plugged my Airport Extreme router again and connected the iMac to the router via Ethernet. Download speed dropped to 100 Mbps!

This suggests that the problem may be with the Airport Express. It is not a wireless problem, because as you can see the download speed went from 300Mbp/s connected directly to the model 100 Mbps when connected to the Airport Extreme.

    How do I troubleshoot/fix this?

One last thing: I did a speed test with my Macbook Air that is connected via Wifi and the Airport Extreme router. Download speed dropped to 35 MB/s.

Direct connection to the modem is so very fast, suggesting the internet connection Comcast isn't the issue. Speed falls even with ethernet to the Airport Extreme router connection, then decreases even more with the Wifi connection.

  • 2nd airport Extreme replaces an older AP, it is connected via wifi or ethernet?

Sorry for what is lame, I read on the news from Apple, but I'm a bit confused with the concept of the expansion of the range with a bridge instead of an access point.

The original installation was an extreme Apple with a TrendNet AP. The Trendnet used a different SSID, the new bridge to the AESB uses the same SSID as the router/AESB. I used the Airport utility, and I think that it only gave me an option to extend the reach of the original AEBS. The new bridge to the AESB is connected to Ethernet.

I'm confused that if the new AESB uses the same SSID as the AESB/router, it means that it does not use the ethernet connection. How can I know if the second AESB is using the Ethernet connection or extend the reach of the Wifi? Or actually I mess up and need to re-setup the AESB?

A bridge is actually one access point, but uses the same SSID? all the other differences?

    Thanks in advance!

Let's back off on the terminology for a bit, since terms such as 'spread', 'bridge' and 'access point' can mean different things to different people.

  • Airport Extreme with a USB hard drive

I have iMac, retina runs El Capitan, I have a fairly new Airport Extreme 6.3.6 running.  My desire is to attach a USB drive and have available files can I access any of my computers.  Also have old iMac and a MBP (about 2012 or 2013).  All three are attached to Airport Extreme, through ethernet cables.  I use the wireless for iPhone and iPad, not for computers.

I have a Seagate 2 TB hard drive. I connected directly to the latest iMac and all is well. Get the connect to Airport Extreme, it does not appear in the Finder.  After reading several articles I tried to install this on a powered USB hub and the HD in it.  Still does not appear in the Finder.

I tried to reformat the hard disk, but would not be able to afford it. I have app NTSF on iMac.

I hope that's enough detail for someone to offer assistance.  Please, I beg you!  -Kathy

You need to connect to a computer and reformat the drive as Mac OS extended (journaled). AirPort Extreme cannot read USB drives to NTFS or exFAT format.

  • The Airport Extreme WiFi intermittent 2nd generation

I'm having a weird problem with loss of WiFi on my Apple Airport Extreme.

My 2nd generation that apple Airport Extreme Base Station began to close its WiFi broad signal several times.  It happens usually after 60 minutes or less works very well.  Power on and the new runs for awhile until it stops again the WiFi.  Green light normally forward either static rest without flickering to indicate data transfer, or it will just dark.  Sometimes it will turn off WiFi and then restart WiFi a few minutes later and appear to be good.  But mostly it just stops and I can, he extinguished/turned on to operate correctly with the WiFi again.

Airport Extreme is connected by ethernet cable to my modem/router main fiber (which is a different floor home) and it is set to "Bridge" Mode  It worked without any problems and I did no changes to my system.  My ISP did update my modem broadband fiber a few weeks ago to a "Virgin Media Hub 3.0"I understand was made by Compal.»  It seems to work perfectly and I have no problems with speed download or reliability in wireframe.  I was away from home for about a week and was able to access my wireless IP camera remotely via my Airport Extreme with no problems.  The problem started almost immediately on my return, but, as I said, I did no changes to my network.  I have never had this kind of problem before with my Airport Extreme.

I am running OS X Yosemite on an iMac that is connected by a cable ethernet to the Airport Extreme and seems to work very well even when WiFi is de-energized on the Airport Extreme.  Airport utility reports the airport as current firmware version 7.6.7.

I used network utility, Fing, and it showed that my Airport Extreme has multiple IP addresses, which seem to conflict with the IP address for my three AppleTV.  I manually changed the IP addresses of the Apple TV to another IP address not conflicting, but Fing always shows that my Airport Extreme has three IP addresses and I still have the problem of WiFi.

Any other suggestions on a probable cause of this problem or the best way to solve the problem would be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

The question is the 2nd generation AE is now too old.

I would say the power supply (external or internal) is dying.

It service life is approximately 5 years... your must be 8 years old. so the solution is simple... buy a new one... or I'll tell... Newish...

  • Device not found Airport Extreme

We have an airport extreme connected generation via Ethernet to a switch that provides network access to our entire House (about 10-15 connections) via wifi access points all Ethernet hard wired (linksys + apple) and a direct wire to a PC. Airport extreme is the dhcp and is connected to a gpon fiber using PPPoE.

The problem now is that the AirPort Extreme disappears from the airport on iOS Mac utility and Windows, it is found however the network and the Internet continues to operate normally on all connected devices. I can also continue ping on the router.

I have reset the AirPort Extreme to the default settings, but the problem continued...

I tried to unplug all devices and have AirPort Extreme only connected to him have the fiber but the problem persists...

no idea how I can fix this problem?

You describe a known problem with Back to My Mac which first appeared around July 13. The problem manifests itself in a message "Device not found" meant to be displayed in triangular AirPort your AirPort base station with a yellow icon utility, while the router of the device functions others continue to work normally.

If you use an airport Time Capsule, backups will not work using that device or USB hard drive units connected to it.

Apple will only be able to solve this problem, so all you can do is wait for them to do. If you want to contact them to tell them about it, using the contact Support link.

There is a solution: on a Mac, open AirPort Utility and select file > configure other...

For each of your routers Apple AirPort Base Stations serving their respective networks: its IP address and password (if you don't know either of them, read the Note that follows the horizontal rule below). Then, on the tab of the Basic Station , delete all the entries in the Back to My Mac using the 'negative' button, then click on Update.

Which must be re-established appearance of this base station in AirPort Utility, as well as in a side bar of the Finder, if all shared disks are plugged on. It will also restore possibility of Time Machine to save on these discs, if this has also been a problem for you.

If this seems to imply that you will not be able to use Back to My Mac until Apple fixes it, you are probably right. Well to diagnose problems of the CCMM is tedious work that I have not yet finished.

Apple does not participate on this site except in a very limited way, so don't expect is not a response from them, here or elsewhere for that matter. We'll just have to wait for them to fix it.

  • Airport Extreme appearing does not in Airport utility

Airport Extreme is connected to the internet but will not be displayed in the Airport (see image below) utility.

My home network consists of the following:

    Cable modem Comcast Arris TM722

    • Airport utility to view an IP from Comcast ending 1
    • Now, it displays 10.0.xx.1 and is connected to the internet, but the IP is really the same old Comcast ip address ending 1

Airport Extreme Office worm 7.7.7 (primary - dhcp)-has an IP from Com

    • Airport utility to view an IP from Comcast ending with .xxx and internal ip address of 10.0.xx.1, but the ip address is really the same old Comcast ip address ending in .xxx internal ip address of 10.0.xx.1

Airport Extreme lounge worm 7.7.7 (bridged)

    • Airport utility to view the internal IP ending par.2 (static)

Airport Express Patio worm 7.7.6 (bridged)

    • Aport utility always displays an internal ip address, ending (3) (static)

    All computers are:

    MacOS worm 10.11.6

    Airport Utility ver 6.3.6

Question: Neither Airport Extreme appears in Airport utility (both are gray with yellow triangle! icon), the Airport Express appears fine.  Everything worked as it should until yesterday, I haven't changed anything.  From time to time I run a vpn on one of my Mac client.

I can access one of the ends using the option "Set up other" under the menu of Airport utility file.

Wireless and internet work as it should, the usb drives attached to the 01 extremes are accessible.

Things I've tried (based on the reading of the support articles that I found from 2013 to present):

    Electric bike on everything.

    • Does nothing.

    Soft reset everything.

    • Does nothing.

    Hard resetting everything.

    • Does nothing.

Affecting the default extremes and reconfigure them.

    • Does nothing.

Definition of 'Configure IPv6' to link-Local only on the two extremes.

    • Does nothing.

    Activation of the guest network

    • Makes the show of extremes, but only one at a time, not both.

I am completely confused and looking for suggestions.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Exit Airport Extreme seems slow

I have the latest version of Airport Extreme.  I completed a test of speed directly to my cable modem and it shows a download speed of 750MBps.  When my Airport Extreme is connected my typical speed is 30 Mbps (on my iPhone 6 + and in the same room as the router, the test is over).  I may have something misconfigured or connected incorrectly.  Anyone can shed some light on this subject?

What is the brand and model of your cable modem?

  • where can I find the mac address for Airport Extreme

just bought a new Airport Extreme 802.11ac and I don't know here to find the MAC ADDRESS. Can someone tell me where to look. I have the model and serial number, but can not find the MAC ADDRESS.

Is the AirPort Extreme, set up and operation right now... even if he could not have an Internet connection?

If Yes... Open the AirPort on your Mac utility... (Finder > Applications > utilities > AirPort Utility)

Hold down the option key on your Mac when you double-click on the image of the AirPort Extreme

The next page will display a summary of the parameters

The AirPort Extreme has done 3 different MAC addresses... Ethernet, WiFi 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi.   If your AirPort Extreme is connected to a modem by an Ethernet cable, then the Ethernet ID is the MAC address.

If the AirPort Extreme has not set up yet at all...

Open AirPort Utility as above, and then click the file menu in the upper left corner of the screen next to the Apple icon

    Click on configure the other

    For address, enter 10.0.1.1

A password is normally not necessary, but if you are prompted for a password, use the word

    public

Click OK, the settings summary page is displayed.  In most cases, given that the AirPort Extreme connects to a modem via an Ethernet connection, you want to use the Ethernet ID as the MAC address.
