Airport Extreme rejecting wifi password

Hi guys,.

It's just weird, and I struggle to understand how so little of us out there has this issue.

I have an Airport Extreme, maybe a year (the standing standing version) and it has the latest firmware, 7.2 or something.

The thing is that, after a reset full or any reconfiguration, it works very well for a while. Sometimes it works for a few weeks and like this time, about a day. He comes, out of nowhere, starts to refuse wifi connections. It is in place and works well, but you cannot connect. Sometimes it does that of PC and sometimes and does not at all work, but the wifi is still active.

Guys, please, you need someone out there who knows what to do...

Best regards

Henrik Lindahl

It's defective.

Wireless fails on the last model AC is not uncommon. If it's less than a year to get Apple to replace under warranty... If you are outside an Apple of the year he will always replace if you have applecare on an appletv/ipad/computer and it is still possible to buy applecare and make said replace.

Back to the factory and start over with a new clean configuration and see if it improves. If this isn't the case, you probably need a replacement.

At this point, your only hope is to open the AirPort Extreme to try to repair the reset button... If possible. This link provides some tips on the process to open the unit.

Honestly, it isn't easy, unless you're a guy real DIY, you can buy an A1408 used on Amazon for about $35-40.

  • Cannot print with HP6840 since I added the password to the Apple AirPort Extreme network

I recently added to my Mac Airport Extreme network WPA password protection. While I can access the network from my computer, I can't print a HP6840, one of my two wireless printers, even if there is no problems prior to the addition of password.

I can always print to my old HP LaserJet 6MP using an AppleTalk-Ethernet bridge and managed to reconfigure my second wireless printer to work with the new password.

    I already tried the following:

Uninstalled/reinstalled the original CD and more recent software/drivers HP printer

Tried to printer configuration using the Ethernet - half thanks looking for printer, received an error message "Communication error with a printer" and the installation process has failed.

Checked: Safari bookmarks / Hello: printer does not appear

Computer and the printer turned off and restarted the computer

    None of these attempts succeeded.

Any suggestions on how to restore my wireless printing?

    Thank you.

Mac OS 10.5.7 iMac with Intel processor

I spent 3 hours on the phone this morning with the HP Technical Support. While the call cost me $35, it's probably money well spent. After trying all kinds of approaches to installation, we finally concluded that the villain was probably the combination of personal WPA2 to authenticate password on my network and the inability of the HP6840 printer (now almost 5 years) to support WPA2. Tech said that WPA2 wasn't around 5 years.

So I have two options: delete the password completely and let my unprotected network, use a WEP password (which can create an Apple AirPort and the printer can recognize) or try a WPA password. However, it seems that the airport offer only WPA-Personal and WPA Enterprise, while the printer does not seem to accept the WPA.

Even if I don't really relish change passwords again, it seems that WEP is the way to go.

Hope this helps those trying to install old printers on the new networks.

  • Airport Extreme network 4G connection

I currently have the following configuration for my internet appliances:

I have an Airport Extreme unit serving wireless three units Airport Express to extend WiFi coverage throughout the House. Physically connected to the Airport Extreme via ethernet are two televisions Panasonic who can access the same places predetermined via the internet (for example, BigPond movies and television, People, ABC iView, SBS OnDemand). To enable connectivity to other sites such as Netflix, Stan etc every Panasonic TV has its own unit of Apple TV connected to Airport Extreme via WiFi.

I use Airport Extreme for all my other internal needs such as web connectivity MacBook and iPhone.

The Airport Extreme WAN port is so physically connected to the ADSL modem and line phone Telstra for the Exchange, which is about 4 km.

The problem is that the speed of download of the ADSL 2 + are poor, maxing out at about 3.5mbps. When I listen to the live broadcast of MotoGP and World Superbike racing the picture often freezes while he puts in buffer. Watched movies via Netflix and Stan often freezes too.

I just ran a speed test on the Telstra Mobile 4 G network and I got a download speed of 111.94Mbps 41.77Mbps upload speed.

Now, I'm thinking it would be great if I could connect my home network to the internet via their WiFi 4 G device X Pro Advanced.

    My question is this:

Is it possible to connect the Airport Extreme to the Telstra WiFi 4 G device and the use of the mobile network for my internet and get rid of the ADSL modem? I don't think I can use USB Extreme airport connection, I think that the port is only to connect a printer, but I do not know if the Airport Extreme talk wireless Telstra 4 G device. Documentation of Telstra said their device will connect up to 10 devices using WiFi, but I do not know if there would be problems with the Airport Extreme router to talk to her.

After spending heaps on all these units of Apple (1 x Airport Extreme) and 3 x Airport Express I don't want to lose, but if there is no way to Airport Extreme wireless unit of Telstra (or if this method is ridiculous) so maybe I might be able to get the device of Telstra to talk to all my other WiFi devices directly. Then, I might be able to sell the extreme and expresses it.

I had a discussion with Apple Support through their chat session, but the person with which I spoke was not able to help.

    Thanks in advance.

You need a device that is able to connect via Ethernet to the AirPort Extreme base station.

With a plain/direct USB 4 G modem, a router broadband mobile sometimes can act in Bridge mode and thus provide a conversion method. For example, Dovado has these routers, but their modem (http://www.dovado.com/en/support/modems) compatibility list appears to cite that a single Telstra USB 4 G modem (ZTE) which supports the mode bridge.

Your question indicates, however, that the 4G modem is actually a mobile access point (providing a local Wi - Fi network). If so, it may or may not be possible to use the wireless Ethernet Bridge (maybe even a model of Apple AirPort Express appropriate) to join this hotspot wireless and then connect via Ethernet to the entrance of the AirPort Extreme. This is all experimental, however. Various problems, including double NAT, are to be expected.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't let me change the wifi password

While in the airport utility, I try to change my wifi password and I get "error when updating the configuration."

There is also no list of what devices are connected to the wifi.

And it lists the serial number...

All these things were there yesterday, no downloads or updates between yesterday and today.  Full cycle restarts were made.

The Setup is Cox as ISP, my modem (Arris Surfboard SB6183), AirPort Extreme 5th gen.

    MBP mid 2015, 10.10.5

It seems that Cox is currently implementing a number of changes to their service having to do with IPv6 at the present time.  Cox users who have Apple routers have problems as a result of this, and... if we are using the correct information... Cox is telling users that airports are not compatible with the changes that have been made.  Here is an example of message that we saw today:

Change default delegated prefix IPv6 in Airport Extreme with the Configuration automatic IPv6

Cox suggests to reboot the router when a problem arises... that helps for some users, but not all.

    or

Disable IPv6 on the router from the airport... What is not possible. Even if it were, Apple uses IPv6 settings to enable communication with other Apple devices on the network. You can disconnect IPv6 to the WAN port on the airport by changing parameters IPv6 link Local Only... that Cox makes no mention of.

Now the possible Catch 22.  You must be able to enter the parameters of the AirPort Extreme to change the link Local only... and if you can not access the settings on the airport... things will be difficult.

You are able to open AirPort Utility, click on the image of the AirPort Extreme and then click on change to display the settings... page with tabs for different areas... or... you get an error message until you can get the settings?

  • Wifi configuration with Airport Extreme (A1143), iMac (El Capitan) running. Need of a direction.

I recently moved to a City University and living in a housing facility run by the University. It's got broadband by Comcast for free with the room. I plugged all the necessary equipment (modem and cable) to the iMac and the internet works well for a week now.

Now I want Wifi for the apartment. I decided to dust off my old 1st or 2nd Gen extreme base station Airport. I read that it can still work with El Capitan, so I went and tried to install it. First of all, I updated the firmware and connected the appropriate cables. Everything seemed to go in the direction of the work, but I hit a bump on the road. Wifi works for the iMac. I unplugged the ethernet cable and it's receiving internet, but I tried to get my iPad Wifi and smart phone and it doesn't seem to work. I used the good passwords etc. Nothing.

I found it odd that I get Wifi to my iMac, although the Airport Extreme light is orange. Normally, it should be green. Of course, I don't use this thing in forever and actually don't think it would work, but so far the iMac becomes Wifi, but aren't the other devices and auburn is turned on. So here's a screenshot of what I see in the Airport utility.

Can anyone help or point me to the right direction? Also it has to do with the campus of the internet, I'm getting?

The attached picture shows it's getting to the internet via wifi (not plugged into the modem) but he doesn't seem to get wifi on my other devices in the apartment. The Airport base station we connected directly to the Modem. I also followed the steps of my iMac had originally planned to make it work and it did, but only for the iMac. I expect the unit to green thereafter but he did not. What gives?

The A1143 was introduced in January 2007 and arrested in March 2009, so the model you have is at least 7 years and older, and as much as 9 + depending on when the product has been implemented.

The average lifetime of a router designed for home use is about 5 years, so we're not sure how much time and effort you want to invest in AirPort Extreme you have there.

Frankly, it is remarkable that the product works for the iMac, because status messages indicate that you have an Internet connection.  We cannot explain this one.

We also don't know if amber on the most convenient airport is flashing, or remains Orange fixed. Can clarify you on this, please?

If you want to try to start over again and set up the AirPort Extreme, the first bit of information that we need is the number of brand and model of your modem.  We don't need a serial number, only the manufacturer name and number for the modem to the model.

We will try to help, but who can give no assurance that we will be able to get things working for you.

  • How can I reset my password for Airport Extreme?

I limited access via the Airport Extreme WiFi because I was 17, can 'no' game all night. He has now downloaded the Airport utility to its iPhone and can go and change the access to 'all day' with a touch of a rocker. How do I change the password so its utility does not allow him to make this change? Thank you all.

What camera... Mac, PC or iPhone / iPad will you use to change the configuration?

If it's a Mac... we need the operating system they are running to provide the correct steps.

  • the Airport extreme, giving a slow wifi connection

    Hello

I've got my download speed of 200 Mbps cable company. I checked a good signal by plugging directly in he back of the Modem (to remove the photo Airport extreme wifi.) ... I have 221Mbps actually...

However, once I'm going to plug in the Airport Extreme and text my speed on wifi, I get only between 24 Mbps or max after several trials of 54 Mbps on download... I should get just under 200 Mbit/s because of the normal fall through wifi... However, not to the extreme I loss I get...

Tuesday Apple Support has helped me to perform a reboot of the router and I have been good to get 198Mbps... It is here 2 days later and I'm back down to 24 Mbps...

I tried to redo the reboot: unplug the unit, hold down the reset button, then while holding down the reset button, add power on and continue now stuck until it flashes yellow... But curiously, after it flashes it goes straight to the green... (never asking me to airport utility to add a password)

    My Wifi speed stink...

What continues with this device... anyone have recommendations?

I already proved the cable line and the modem (with the support of motorola)...

    Thank you

Most likely you have a faulty AirPort Extreme. Please ask Apple to replace this unit for you.

If you wish to renew a reset, follow the instructions very carefully:

    Turning off AirPort Extreme

    Wait 7 - 8 seconds

Hold the first reset button... and hold in an additional 7 to 8 seconds while simultaneously you reconnect the power on the AirPort Extreme.

Release the reset button to zero after the period of detention

Allow a minute for the AirPort Extreme restart. The light will be Orange fixed for 15-20 seconds about, then turn to flashing orange slowly after about 30 seconds

A slow amber flashing light... about once per second... confirms that the airport has been reset and you can set it up again.

  • 2nd airport Extreme replaces an older AP, it is connected via wifi or ethernet?

Sorry for what is lame, I read on the news from Apple, but I'm a bit confused with the concept of the expansion of the range with a bridge instead of an access point.

The original installation was an extreme Apple with a TrendNet AP. The Trendnet used a different SSID, the new bridge to the AESB uses the same SSID as the router/AESB. I used the Airport utility, and I think that it only gave me an option to extend the reach of the original AEBS. The new bridge to the AESB is connected to Ethernet.

I'm confused that if the new AESB uses the same SSID as the AESB/router, it means that it does not use the ethernet connection. How can I know if the second AESB is using the Ethernet connection or extend the reach of the Wifi? Or actually I mess up and need to re-setup the AESB?

A bridge is actually one access point, but uses the same SSID? all the other differences?

    Thanks in advance!

Let's back off on the terminology for a bit, since terms such as 'spread', 'bridge' and 'access point' can mean different things to different people.

  • How Airport Extreme wifi be unsafe?

I created a wired / wireless using a 5th generation Airport Extreme attached to a DSL modem.   It works fine, but I want wifi to not secure - I'm in a rural area, and if someone is close enough to get on my wifi, dogs will ensure I know!

It doesn't seem to be such an option when I place the extreme in the Airport utility, so I will try to do it after the fact.  I went in Airport utility double-clicked on the extreme, you click on "Edit", select the tab 'Wireless' and 'None' in the dropdown list selected for "Wireless Security".  When I updated the changes, the network seemed to go away.  I had to reset the extreme and set it up again.   What I've done wrong?   I guess I could just create a network of comments, since this is my main reason for wanting to be non-secure.

I went in Airport utility double-clicked on the extreme, you click on "Edit", select the tab 'Wireless' and 'None' in the dropdown list selected for "Wireless Security".  When I updated the changes, the network seemed to go away.

Did you also change the name of the wireless network when you did?

If this isn't the case, you have the same network name that has been set up with a password and the same name network set up to do not use a password.  That will be totally confused all your devices, because they associated the name of the network with the password for the network.

  • The Airport Extreme WiFi intermittent 2nd generation

I'm having a weird problem with loss of WiFi on my Apple Airport Extreme.

My 2nd generation that apple Airport Extreme Base Station began to close its WiFi broad signal several times.  It happens usually after 60 minutes or less works very well.  Power on and the new runs for awhile until it stops again the WiFi.  Green light normally forward either static rest without flickering to indicate data transfer, or it will just dark.  Sometimes it will turn off WiFi and then restart WiFi a few minutes later and appear to be good.  But mostly it just stops and I can, he extinguished/turned on to operate correctly with the WiFi again.

Airport Extreme is connected by ethernet cable to my modem/router main fiber (which is a different floor home) and it is set to "Bridge" Mode  It worked without any problems and I did no changes to my system.  My ISP did update my modem broadband fiber a few weeks ago to a "Virgin Media Hub 3.0"I understand was made by Compal.»  It seems to work perfectly and I have no problems with speed download or reliability in wireframe.  I was away from home for about a week and was able to access my wireless IP camera remotely via my Airport Extreme with no problems.  The problem started almost immediately on my return, but, as I said, I did no changes to my network.  I have never had this kind of problem before with my Airport Extreme.

I am running OS X Yosemite on an iMac that is connected by a cable ethernet to the Airport Extreme and seems to work very well even when WiFi is de-energized on the Airport Extreme.  Airport utility reports the airport as current firmware version 7.6.7.

I used network utility, Fing, and it showed that my Airport Extreme has multiple IP addresses, which seem to conflict with the IP address for my three AppleTV.  I manually changed the IP addresses of the Apple TV to another IP address not conflicting, but Fing always shows that my Airport Extreme has three IP addresses and I still have the problem of WiFi.

Any other suggestions on a probable cause of this problem or the best way to solve the problem would be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

The question is the 2nd generation AE is now too old.

I would say the power supply (external or internal) is dying.

It service life is approximately 5 years... your must be 8 years old. so the solution is simple... buy a new one... or I'll tell... Newish...

  • I just installed an airport extreme router and WiFi works, but the status light still flashes.

I just installed an airport extreme router and WiFi works, but the status light still flashes.

Open airport utility... Click EI... and see what the cause of the problem. It will give the list of questions on the summary page. Click on each of them and he will offer you even solutions.

for example the firmware needs to be updated... nothing major... or DNS is wrong or double NAT...

Without our crystal ball, we do not know what is the issue.

  • Why is my slower than wifi ethernet download speed when using the airport extreme?

    Hi all

This is my first post here, so please bear with me. I currently own stunted 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch and an extreme A1521 from the airport. My ISP has promised 50Mbps downloading and sending 10 Mbps. When I connect my MPro via ethernet/wi-fi to my modem I get as promised. When I connect my MPro via wi - fi to the extreme I get 48Mbps download download 9Mbps and it's ok. However, when I connect my MPro via ethernet to extreme I get 8-9Mbps download and 9Mbps. Anyone know how to fix this?

If you check the 'fine print', your ISP has promised "up to" 50 Mbit/s and 'up to' 10Mbps.  The ISP might provide more than that during periods of slow activity, like the days of the week during the day, but much less during evenings when there are many more users on the Internet.

When I connect my MPro via ethernet/wi-fi to my modem I get as promised

I assume that you meant to check the Ethernet connection, you disable WiFi on Mac when you do this. And unplug the Ethernet cable when you check the speed of the WiFi, correct?

If so, this tells you that the Ethernet port to both the modem and the Mac work properly, and WiFi work correctly as well.

When I connect my MPro via wi - fi to the extreme I get 48Mbps download download 9Mbps and it's ok.

If this tells you that the Ethernet connection between the modem and the AirPort Extreme works correctly, and wireless works fine on the AirPort Extreme.

However, when I connect my MPro via ethernet to extreme I get 8-9Mbps download and 9Mbps.

Well, you know that the Ethernet connection between the modem and AirPort Extreme works because you can register 48 Mbps Wireless.

Thus, the possibilities are narrowed to two elements at this stage:

    (1) the Ethernet cable is defective or making intermittent contact. Try another Ethernet cable, to ensure.

    (2) If you have turned off AirPort Extreme and rebooted several times, and you know that the cable between the Mac and AirPort Extreme works properly, then you have reduced the question down to the Ethernet on the AirPort Extreme, which is probably defective switch.

If you have not already done so, try other ports Ethernet on the AirPort Extreme.

As a last resort, perform a reset material on AirPort Extreme and put up again. To perform the Hard Reset... power on AirPort Extreme for a few minutes, then hold it pushed in the reset button on the back of the unit (near the AC power plug) for 7-8 seconds and release. Allow a minute for the AirPort Extreme restart orange light flashing slow.

I once went through two consecutive airport extremes with the same question about 8 months ago, so it can happen.

If you're still having problems, then it is time to take the AirPort Extreme of Apple Store... If you have one near you... or contact the Apple Support directly by clicking on 'Contact the Support' in the upper right area of this web page.

    Good luck!

  • Network configuration of Roaming Wifi problem I just bought an Airport Extreme and I intend to use it as my router

I just bought a refurbished Airport Extreme and I intend to use it as my router & combine with our old time Capsule of existing one to create a roaming Wifi network.

The new Airport Extreme (renovated) is in my studio/Office - directly connected to our internet broadband wireless (WAN port)

Our small ethernet is connected to my iMac [mid 2010 running OSX 10.11.5] & a PC and extends up to 2 other domains through an ethernet switch.

This configuration works very well, our internet speed has improved slightly - better than our old T-Link router bit.  WiFi available throughout the House - better on one side.

Time Capsule (2 TB) is connected by ethernet on the far side of the House, offer backup Time Machine and strong Wifi to this area.

This time Capsule was an existing installation that went perfectly with the T-Link before I bought the Airport Extreme.

I used the Airport utility to set everything up and it seems to work.

    The problem is:

Combines the Capsule and extreme connected & active, the Internet gradually slows down and grinds to stop. -Wifi seems to follow suit, but is much more gradual.

If I disable the Time Capsule, the internet connection is back to normal, Airport Extreme Wifi signal is strong and extends to almost all areas.

I got to the departure of the two units configuration problems, so I reset both factory default and from that moment managed to do all this work - with the exception that the internet connection slows down.  Whenever I visit a different web site, it takes more time to load/link upward.

I spoke with our ISP, the link to our tower is solid. The technology suggested that I put Wifi on each unit to use a different channel (2 frequencies & several channels each available).

So far, this has not resolved the problem, I will continue to make adjustments.

I googled this - most of the answers are not to date - usually 2012, 13, 14. and not directly related to my situation.  But I will continue my search.

I'd appreciate if anyone here has any suggestions

The new Airport Extreme (renovated) is in my studio/Office - directly connected to our internet broadband wireless (WAN port)

What is the number and the model of the modem or modem/router that your ISP has provided you?

Should we assume that you use a Mac with the help of a current or recent operating system?

If you get out of the Capsule of time and leaves disabled for now, the network AirPort Extreme continue to run at full speed for a few hours and not slow down?

We ask these questions because we must first confirm that the AirPort Extreme works properly until we can begin to troubleshoot the connection to Time Capsule.
