Airport Extreme router's Express is connected by wire, East of 1 Gbps ports on switch it extreme on 100Bt now?

Hi all

In my house, the extreme is connected to a fiber modem 250 / 250 MB/s and I plugged a time Machine as an Express via CAT6 UTP. All serve as a router and provide 2.4 and 5 GHz wifi on the different floors of the House. Just a question: Express has 2 ports ethernet 100BT, Extreme and Time Machine have 3 1000BT Ethernet ports. The extreme switch mode back all 100BT because of the Express ports?  Because that would explain the downgrade in the port on the extreme speed after that the PS3 has been used connected to the Express.

The extreme switch mode back all 100BT because of the Express ports?

No.... but any device connected to the Terminal AirPort Express will have a maximum speed of 100 Mbps. So, if you connect a 1 000 compatible device to the Ethernet port on the Express, it would appear as a device of 100 Mbps on the network as the Express is limiting speeds.

So, if you want a device that is capable of 1 000 Mbit/s to have 1 000 Mbit/s speed on your network, it will have to connect to AirPort Extreme or time Capsule.

  • Connection to the internet with the 8 port Gig switch

Hey you all the benefits.  I have 6 desktop computers in my house right now, and each of them should be wired.  I thought I'd get the EG008W 8 port 10/100/1000 switch, but before I do that, I need to know if I can run the cable my modem Cat5 cable to a port on the switch uplink to provide access to each 6 workstations in my home?

    Thank you!!

The WRT610N is not an uplink port. It has a port from the internet. As a router, it offers two different interfaces, one for the internet side and one for the side LAN (the side LAN is connected to a switch 4 ports). A router separates the two sides and routes traffic between them.

An ethernet switch extends an ethernet network. It is not a router. It doesn't have an internet port or similar. It does not separate anything. He joins all devices connected on the same LAN.

Older ethernet switches had uplink ports to post a link with other switches. This is because older switches do not have ports to detection automatic, which means that they are not able to know you used a cross-cable or right to connect. With the new switches you don't have to worry about it more. They configure each port correctly some cable you are using and any other device you connect to. All the switch ports are the same.

You can get the EG switch that you mentioned before or any other ethernet switch to expand the number of ports wired in your LAN. One of the ports on the switch simply connecting to a port LAN of the WRT, and you can use all the remaining ports on the WRT and the switch. Do not connect the switch ethernet directly to your modem. Only the WRT.

  • Why Airport Extreme disappeared from Airport utility, after adding to the mac feature?

10.11 OS, with the version of the airport, 6.3.6.  I can see is no longer my Airport Extreme Airport utility after I activated to Mac. I have Airport Extreme base ME91899/A and two Airport Express units model A1392 bolt torque.  I set up the Airport Extreme unit and the network first.  I was able to see the Airport utility. I then added each airport express unit. They were also visible. Then I added back the ability of Mac to the Airport extreme unit, and now it is no longer visible in the Airport utility.  Why is this?

Apple has problems much time with iCloud. Turn off Back to My Mac across your airport routers and then shut down and restart the entire network.

We will have to wait for a fix from Apple.

  • I have older Airport Extreme and Express but I now want to set up a new router Airport.

I have an old Airport Extreme as my main hard wired (ethernet connected) router and an Express that I use as wifi Wireless extender.   Now, I want to set up a new Airport (probably Extreme) router and use the old Airport extreme as extender wifi hard wired (ethernet cable).

I know that I have to reset the old default airport routers. But, how I do this and please start from there and the beginning, their reset and then up to the new Airport base station and then configure the older router to use with the new? Please be detailed, step by step and attach written instructions or places that I can get the instructions.

What exact models are each of your airport base stations? Once we have this information, we can help you get your properly configured access point.

  • How to extend a WiFi router network not Apple using Airport Extreme and Express?

My cable ISP company just gave me a new modem/router - a DG of Arris - 2470. For the last two years I used a cable modem independent older with a connected Airport Extreme (both located on the ground floor) and an Airport Express station on the floor as an Extender. I was very happy with the power of the signal around the House.

Since his arrival to the Arris router my signal has become very low to the floor. I would use my two Apple devices to extend/boost my network, but do not know how to do this.

    Thank you!

    Basically, you have two options:

    1. (Best overall performance of the network) Connect the extreme and Express on the Arris Ethernet gateway device and configure all for a traveling-type network. This would require an Ethernet connection between all routers that can be accomplished by either using Ethernet cable or the use of mains adapters.
    2. (The overall performance of the adequate network) Simply connect the extreme to the Arris Ethernet, then extend the extreme using the Express.

Which of these do you prefer?

  • Connection (hard drive, Add ' l router) to Airport Extreme.

Recently installed router Airport Extreme & Airport Express (for use with airtime for stereo receiver more aged.  Have two other challenges.  (1) want to expand my network wireless in another part of the House.  I have an extra router (Netgear Nighthawk R7000) I think I can use but don't know how.  I have 6 cat running between the two locations.  (2) I have a Toshiba hard drive connected to the USB port on the Airport Extreme, but I do not see in the Finder, the diagram of Airport utility network or on any other screen.

    Would appreciate any help.

I have an extra router (Netgear Nighthawk R7000) I think I can use but don't know how.  I have 6 cat running between the two locations.

    It is trivially easy.

The R7000 is pre-configured with WAP (in some places AP mode) mode.

Could not have never opened the manual for the R7000... It is now time to do...

In my copy (PDF on the computer of course), p112 is, but the title is

Use the router as a wireless access Point

Or you can google for R7000 AP mode.

  • How to connect the Airport express as an Extender for airport extreme to El Capitan

I have a model extreme A1521 airport and a model express airport A1392 and upgraded my OS to El Capitan. I want to use the express as an Extender for the extreme because my old House is long and has thick walls. My problem is that Airport utility will not 'see' the express, regardless of its proximity to the main router (extreme). I tried to move and reset.

Of course, as soon as I get the utility to see, I need instructions on how to configure the express as a booster for my extreme.

    Any ideas?

Unplug the Express and put it in the same room as the AirPort Extreme.

Put power on the Express for a few minutes, then hold down the reset button on the back of the Express for 7 to 8 seconds and release.

Allow a minute for the Express to restart

Click the WiFI icon at the top of the screen of the Mac

Look for an announcement of the new AirPort base station

Click directly on the AirPort Express Terminal

When you click on AirPort Express, the "Wizard" will open and take a few seconds to analyze things, and then see a screen that looks like the figure below, except that you can see your cameras.

Type a short and simple name that you want to call the Express

    Click next

The installation wizard will take care of everything for you

When you see the message Setup is complete, unplug the Express and move to halfway between the AirPort Extreme and the area of the House that needs more coverage of wireless signal

Turn on the Express and you're all set

Important note... the Express to expand the quality of the signal it receives. About half of the potential speed on the entire nextwork is lost when you extend using a wireless connection between the airports.

It would be much better if you could connect the Express to the extreme by using wired Ethernet wired, permanent, since there is no loss of signal via the Ethernet cable and there is always a lot of loss of signal through the air, the (thick walls especially) walls, ceilings, etc.

I have five airport extreme, with their network of people of names in a different location in the House.  I have a brighthouse router that I use to connect to all the extremes of the airport.  I experienced the problem of connection to the internet.

Are all connected to the Brighthouse router by Ethernet extremes? Are all of the extremes configured as bridges?

  • How do you connect a (very) old Apple Airport Express to a new Airport Extreme network?

    For Bob Timmons:

I have 2 old airport expresses, an old and one even older. The network home fled the old Express (connected to a modem), who abandons the connection several times a week. The older Express seems quite dead. What I want to do is to increase wifi coverage in my house (no wifi in the kitchen or the 3rd floor). I buy an Airport Extreme to manage the network, hoping that it would provide wireless coverage in my blind spots. Then I could use the former, Express work next to my stereo to listen to the music of my iMac.

However: the new airport utility shows but does not interact with my work Express. If I buy one extreme and put in place, how I can add the Express network. I downloaded 5.6.1 (and launcher) Airport utility, but don't know if I can use 6.3.6 to implement extreme and 5.6.1 Configure Express.

Any thoughts on this would be welcome.

Sorry, I forgot to ask: even if the Airport 6.3.6 utility on the iMac refuses to 'see' the Express, would be the iPad method you mentioned work with an older Express?

The model numbers of my expressed are:

    work: A1084

    a death: A1264

Well, if A1264 is dead, it is the end of the discussion on this model.

A1084... assuming it works... could probably be used for AirPlay, but the A1084 calls this AirTunes.

The A1084 is at least 9 years old, probably older and the average useful life of an AirPort Express is about 3-4 years. It is amazing the A1084 to work at all, but school drop-outs you see now with the Express indicates that it is heading for the South, he may not be around much longer.

If you want to try using the A1084 Express, it can be implemented and administered using an older version of AirPort 5.x on a Mac or a PC utility. No matter which version of AirPort 6.x...or.. utility. AirPort on an iPhone or iPad utility may NOT be compatible with the A1084 Express.

If you are considering a new AirPort Extreme... and... or buy at Apple, so you have one day 14 return privilege on the product, if it will not do what you want, you can return it for credit or a return.  The older A1084 expected to collaborate with the new AirPort Extreme if you spot a version 5.x of AirPort on a Mac or a PC utility to configure the product.  But... saying "should work" is not the same thing as saying "work"... then it will be one of those moments where you won't know how well... or even if it will work until you try.

  • Airport Express is no longer connect to Airport Extreme

OK, it's kinda a complicated question.  For starters, I will describe my current setup:

Cable modem Motorola-> Airport Express #1-->(Ethernet over powerline)-> Airport Extreme-> multiple Airport Express for AirPlay

Airport Extreme and Airport Express #1 are put in place to create wireless networks, with different names for 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz frequencies.  I love this configuration because it allows me to play music simultaneously on the four different speakers hooked to my Airport Express units while offering good coverage in my apartment together.  It worked perfectly until two days ago when two of the Airport Express units lost their connection and are now flashing yellow.  I tried to restart the Airport Express and Airport Extreme, but nothing helped.  When I launch iStumbler, it looks like Airport Express #1 and Airport Extreme both create networks of right, but who is the Airport Extreme 802. 11A instead of 802.11n - don't know if it of a problem or not.  I suspect that the Airport Extreme is not working properly because when my wireless connection when you use my iPad near the Airport Extreme, that used to be solid as a rock, is now uneven intermittently.

Any ideas on how I can solve this?  Thank you very much!

It sounds like your extreme is the very old Gen1 or Gen2 model without dual band.

Back to the factory and start over. It's the best way to solve problems... reboot is worth a trial, but in the end, you sometimes just have to redo the installation.

  • connect an old Belkin router to a new Airport Extreme

Connect my old Belkin N300 router to my Airport Extreme new would have any advantage to do?  What would be the benefits?

I would only do this if you have any questions using the router Apple on say a PC or a customer who don't will connect easily to the AE directly.

You must connect by ethernet... and configure the Bellkin in mode Bypass WAN... Just google that... unless it of a very recent model and has WAP mode built in.

What question first of all of your problems. If you need help post again with the why so we have an idea how to do the installation.

  • Airport express base station at will without connect to airport extreme

I tried to get my airPort Express to connect to the extreme via my iphone using the application configuration of the airport. He finds the express and he knows I have the extreme. I said I want to extend my current network and finds it units, but I receive and message error "an unexpected error has occurred" try again, I tried several times but to no avail.

Is your goal to have the Express to extend the reach of the extreme wireless using a wireless connection between them? If so, temporarily bring the Express in the same room that the extreme and then, use your iPhone AirPort Utility to try setting them up again. Please post back your results.

  • Connect to Airport Extreme to another router

Hello.  I searched this forum to see if my question is already answered.  I couldn't find all the signs that answer.  If it has already been answered, please point me to the subject.  Otherwise, here's my question:

I need to expand Internet coverage in my house.  This is the configuration I want to implement:

    • Cable modem (at one end of my house) connected to a WiFi router non - Apple.

    • Use an Ethernet cable to the router through my attic, at one Airport Extreme to the other end of the House

    • I would like to run an Ethernet cable from the Airport Extreme to my TV and another cable to an AppleTV

This would give wireless coverage to the entire House and Internet wired for television and the AppleTV.

I would like some advice on how best to implement.  Here are a few questions (although I don't know if I ask to everything that I need to ask):

    • If the Airport Extreme be configured with DHCP or a static IP address?

    • If the Airport Extreme and the other router have the same SSID and password?  Or it doesn't matter?

    • What should I do a configuration to make the Ethernet connection work seamlessly in Airport Extreme to the other router on the cable modem?

    • I guess I can configure the other router (connected to the cable modem) to DHCP.  Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for any advice.  If all goes well, I plan to spend this Saturday morning crawling into the attic and tonight Saturday benefiting the whole Internet.

Should the Airport Extreme be configured with DHCP or a static IP address?

DHCP, unless you have a preference for a static IP address.

Airport Extreme and the other router has the same SSID and password?

Yes, if you want both of your routers to behave as if they provided a unique network of "big". No, if you want to require users to log on the wireless provided separately by each router.

I have to do any configuration to make the Ethernet connection work seamlessly in Airport Extreme to the other router on the cable modem?

Just run configuration 'Wizard' of Apple, and it will assign the correct parameters to the AirPort Extreme.

I guess I can configure the other router (connected to the cable modem) to DHCP.  Is this correct?

It is not clear, given that we do not know what another router you may have. Do you mean that the other router connected to the modem via DHCP... or... you hear the other router provide DHCP and NAT services for the entire network?

  • Presario 2175US not able to connect to the radio after installing Apple Airport Extreme router

Hi all.  I have a Presario 2175US portable computer that is running Windows XP SP2.  The wireless adapter is a Broadcom 802. 11b / g WLAN adapter.  We have recently installed a router Apple AirPort Extreme in our House, with a network WPA2 key, and while the wireless network is visible on my laptop, when I try to connect, it tries to connect for about 90 seconds, but fails.  Unlike other laptops that we have, it does not ask me to enter the network key before trying to connect.  If anyone has a solution to this problem, I would be very grateful.  Thank you.

Thanks for the comments, Paul.  I am pleased to say that the problem was solved after I installed the Windows XP SP3.
