  • Automatic updates do not. Discovered when trying to install Security Essentials.

I have XP - Media Center Edition.  It has been updated to SP - 3 some time ago.  I've always used updates to power off, so I never see the process underway.

I just uninstalled Norton 360 and that he would upgrade to MS Security Essentials, but Setup has failed.  I then googled the error code and found an article that said that it could be related to not having all the updates.  I went and manually start the automatic updates and I found it is bombed on.  Then I checked the log and found that it worked very well until an automatic update around September 17, 2009.  After this, almost all the automatic updates failed.  I never know what I used the update to the power down of the method.

I found a post that says (Phase 1) stop the windows update routine and rename the folder "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" and then restart the windows update routine.  Phase 2 was to force a reinstallation of Windows Update Agent.  I did these things and when I did an update, found that an update loaded for windows, but all other updates (for things like the Net.frame) and other applications, has failed.  Try to install Security Essentials also bombed.

I looked through the forums and found that most of the people are referred to an article on whether you installed the SP3 before restarting after repair or installation of SP2.  This doesn't seem to be my problem.

I hope that this story sounds familiar to someone who can guide me to a solution.  I still haven't yet installed virus protection program and really want to use the bulk of the security.

Thanks for any help you can give,

    John

    Hello

    1. have you downloaded the stand-alone package for the service Pack 2 or are you using Windows update?
    2. you also try to install Windows 7?

    Method 1.
Run Disk Cleanup and disable the security software and then try to install the same and check.
See the article below for disk cleanup:

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
