I had to set up windows mail from scratch after reboot... empty boxes?   Cheers, coolforgot666

Restarted? You reinstalled Vista?

If you have an installation clean back to factory settings, you normally wiped your hard drive clean during the process.

You can try this program:

http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/Recuva.html

Recuva is a file undeletion tool that allows you to analyze your hard drives or media cards for files that have been deleted or formatted. It presents you a list of files that have been found, as well as an assessment of their potential for recovery, a preview option, and a hex viewer to inspect the content. You can limit your search to files of a certain type (e.g. images, audio etc.) and choose between a quick and a thorough analysis approach. The program also includes a secure deletion option that allows you to permanently delete files that were found while parsing, to avoid any future recoveries.

  • Outlook Express in the "compact" XP files I lost all messages in folders to recycle as per the BAK doc

Frequently, Outlook Express 6 wants to "compact" file. I welcomed that this and this time lost all messages in the folders of Outlook Express. They appear in recycle as per the BAK how doc do to restore the trash by the Doc to the folders in Outlook Express?  Also, how can I preclule this loss in the future?

    Thank you

Two reasons the most common for what you describe is disruption of the compacting process, (never touch anything until it's finished), or bloated folders. More about that below.

Why OE insists on compacting folders when I close it? :

    Recovery methods:

If you use XP/SP2 or SP3, and are fully patched, then you should have a backup of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin (or possibly the message store), copied as bak files.

To restore a folder bak on the message store folder, first find the location of the message store.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, the .dbx files are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in the Solution Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder options | View.

Close OE and in Windows Explorer, click on the dbx to the file missing or empty file, then drag it to the desktop. It can be deleted later once you have successfully restored the bak file. Minimize the message store.

Open OE and, if the folder is missing, create a folder with the * exact * same name as the bak file you want to restore but without the .bak. For example: If the file is Saved.bak, the new folder should be named saved. Open the new folder, and then close OE. If the folder is there, but just empty, continue to the next step.

First of all, check if there is a bak file already in the message. If there is, and you have removed the dbx file, go ahead and rename it in dbx.

If it is not already in the message, open the trash and do a right-click on the file bak for the folder in question and click on restore. Open the message store up and replace the .bak by .dbx file extension. Close the message store and open OE. Messages must be in the folder.

If messages are restored successfully, you can go ahead and delete the old dbx file that you moved to the desktop.

If you have not then bak copies of your dbx files in the Recycle Bin:

DBXpress run in extract disc Mode is the best chance to recover messages:
    http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/default.aspx

    And see:
    http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4

A general warning to help avoid this in the future:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They finally are damaged. Create your own folders defined by the user for mail storage and move your mail to them. Empty the deleted items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 300 MB, and also empty as is possible to default folders.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • All messages appear is not in Windows Mail

My Windows Mail used to open the display of the list of emails by at, to and date of entry in Inbox, sent etc, but all of a sudden I open a file and get a message open - no list to choose.  It is set to show all Messages.  The only way I can see other messages is the one showing when I open click on View and previous Message - no list to tell me what's in one of my folders.

Turn off the preview pane worked!

That's what I was driving at in a previous post. Do not turn off the preview pane. Place the cursor on the top edge and it becomes a double arrow. Left click on, then do slide up to a desired height, and're you good to go.

  • Windows Mail is deleting all messages from my Inbox

Earlier today, my Windows Mail used to have over 1000 emails in my Inbox. Tonight, I noticed that almost all of the emails in my Inbox were deleted.  If I navigate to another e-mail folder and return to the Inbox of messages more get erased.  The missing e-mails are not appearing in the file delete either.

What caused my e-mails from 1000 to clear all of a sudden?  How can I recover my 1000 mails and how this fixed a bug?

    Thank you.

    Try this:

Go to your Inbox > view > current view > check show all Messages.

  • Mail from windows Vista causes all messages become attachments and nothing appears in the body of the message

I tried to identify the elements of what everyone says as temporary files and I reset the default values without result. When I run the windows mail application, it flashes briefly the content of the first email in the text of the display area and him disappears and when all messages are loaded, they are all empty in the viewing areas and attachments when you click Open in I.e. and dispay the content.
I see some with similar problems a little saying that Regcure and CCleaner solved the problem, but I'm not sure they're just plug the software or it really solves the problem. Any contribution is appreciated.

I can't find any reference to the symptoms you are experiencing. I suspect it's something touching WinMail and no WinMail himself. At this point, I would see if you can get better suggestions in this forum.

If I instal Windows 10, I lost all my data such as audio or video files?

    Hello

If you have a system that is qualified for the upgrade and then no. you will not lose any data. However, it s recommended you back up your system files and data that you want absolutely without danger, because things can always go wrong.

  • Lost all files in Windows, do I need to reinstall Windows?

I have performed in a bad way, as backup of the laptop and I lost all files in windows. Any program of Microsoft works. just internet. Is there a way to recover these files or do I have to re - install windows 7? Thank you.

If you made a backup restore from restoring built in the recovery partition on the laptop, all would be lost, and you need to reinstall all of the programs that you installed after you started using the laptop.

Images and documents you had on this subject, would be too lost!

If you used the built in restore which is under Windows, everything must be always there with the exception of all the files that were created after that restore point.
