1. When did you start to question?
2. you remember to make changes to the computer before this problem?
You can consult the following Microsoft KB article and run the fix to resolve the problem:

all programs are needed to start?
all programs are needed to start?
Apparently not.
I have zero startup items and my system works fine. That may not work for everyone, but it's the way I like to run - lean and mean hoping for infections of malware if I can keep on my toes on the way to correctI don't know that anyone could tell you what startup programs, you need or those who you don't need without more information on the issue, trying to solve... or are - this just curiosity.Where do you see these startup items, that you remember to turn off and what are they?If you want to help looking at your startup items, I would like to start here:Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system. Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.Provide information on your system, the better you can:What is your system brand and model? What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack? What is your Internet browser and version?Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..Next:I would like to use CCleaner to watch all your startup items and you might be able to identify and disable the (this may take a few passes) or if you look at the list of startup items and do not know what to do, you can publish a list of your startup items and someone can help you to look at.Here's how:Download CCleaner here:CCleaner allows you to manage most of the startup items and also do some other operations oriented cleaning. Some people will you recommend is not to use the registry functions in CCleaner to avoid these features for now. I have no problem with it for me, but sometimes it's a contentious issue, I prefer to avoid as much as possibleYou can uninstall CCleaner later if you don't like it.You can disable the startup items, see how things look and if you want to - delete totally useless, or just startup items leave the disabled while you continue troubleshooting. Note that disabling things does not uninstall anything, and if there is a problem, you can simply re-enable the point. If you're sure you don't want at all, then you can delete it.After launch of CCleaner and see what startup items you can disable/remove, if you are still not sure of your startup items, follow these steps:Run CCleaner and choose Tools, boot and bottom right, click on the button "Save to text file" to save the startup information in a text file on your desktop with a name you remember - something like startup.txtSave the boot information text file on your desktop (or somewhere you can find it) open the text file with an editor (Notepad or WordPad), select all (Ctrl-A), copy text, all the text selected in the Windows Clipboard (Ctrl-C) and then paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the startup list to come back here in your next reply and maybe someone can tell you other things to consider.A more revealing startup Analyzer is Autoruns which will allow the manipulation of all sectors of boot and does not actually install anything:I have zero startup items on my computer and my startup list is empty, so none of this is important to me! -

Hello
1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?
Follow these steps and check if they help.
Step 1:
I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.
a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
Explorer.exed. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.
Step 2:
Test the issue in a new user account.

All programs are now trying to open with WORD.
Model HP laptop G56. Windows 7-64 bit. After inadvertently pressing the WORD by trying to open the Cubase 5 music program (after asking what program I want to open Cubase with) all the program on the desktop icons now appear as the letter W and the computer tries to not open in WORD now, which is impossible so no open programs. How I can fix this and restore the situation so that each program, i.e., Cubase, Excel and all the rest opens just in its own right? I tried to remedy this by the OPEN WITH menu, but it shows just a few programs and no way to repair my error.
Hello:
If it has not been produced for a long time, I just use the system restore utility and choose a restore point for awhile before you tried to open the program with Word.
If you are not familiar with this utility, please read the link below on how to use it.

Windows 7, the "All PROGRAMS" area; HOW TO COMBINE?
I have approximately 65 downloaded games that I play a lot. I have them in a folder on my desktop. It of great, works perfectly, HOWEVER, they are listed individually under my all PROGRAMS on the start menu. How can I get them in a single folder in this area? They take too much space and do the ALL PROGRAMS so long, it is difficult to find a program that I'm looking for. I have to scroll all game names!
Understand? Can someone tell me how to manipulate the area of all THE PROGRAMS?
See if you can rearrange shortcuts to program in one of these locations.
Location of the Start Menu of the user is
C:\Users\usernamexxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\ for specific user.
While the Start Menu generally used by most installers and accessible by all users is C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu.
Watch the "Programs" folder in each location.
The best way to access these two places is right click on the link to all of the programs in the menu start and click Open or open all users for each location respectively.
ProgramData is a hidden folder, you may need to set the display of records (Control Panel / folder Options) to display the hidden files and folders if you want access to these locations.
If your username does not create or read a file in one of these locations look at the tab security and access permissions.

Thanks in advance for your advice.Maybe the extensions of a problem. I suggest that you try to use
- Questions to troubleshoot Firefox in Safe Mode <-clikable link for instructions.
- do NOT change in the first window, just click on continue
- Use only the default firefox theme
- If you continue to have problems; While still in safe mode, and then disable all plugins
It is also worth trying to make sure that all extensions are uptodate
You may try to use the reset option controls and toolbars of safe mode, BUT can lose the customizations that you have made.

As Device Manager and RUN programs are open with a notebook!
Programs such as Device Manager, system configuration and RUN, for example, are open with a Notepad in which a lot of things ununderstanable are written with the exception of this sentence: this program cannot be run in DOS mode.
I hope you can help me know what the problem
I've had this a couple of days, when I updated my windows, but I don't know if it was the cause.Hi Naj,
Thank you for your message.
If you use the "Run" box/command and executable files (anything with .exe extension) are to open with Notepad, or you have a virus or the executable file (.exe) are associated with Notepad.
Here's an article that explains a part of the process:

CS6 on my Mac downloading all programs are indistinct/blurred/pixely
Hello! I have a problem with downloading programs CS6. I just bought a Mac and got a new serial number for my CS6, etc. and when I downloaded the Mac version - now the programs are all Blur/Blur. They have look very 'pixely' - not just photos etc, but overall the program! What I have to change somewhere or why does look like this?
Here's a picture to give you an example. If you compare Photoshop with the 'menu' on it, you will see the difference. Pixely, WHY is the program?
Install the updates for the activation of the retina for the PS and AI. Other applications do not support the retina in CS6 and seem simply sweet.
