"All programs" list empty

Yesterday, I noticed that when I click on "All programs" in the Start Menu, there are all the programs listed. I can still access all of C:\Program Files, so I know that I've accidentally deleted all the programs. Is it possible to restore them to "all programs"? Attached is a link to my "All programs" list look like now.

Hi LisaEB,

1. you remember to make changes to the computer before this problem?

It seems that if you have something close to 70 or more shortcuts/folders in the all users folders & Start Menu/user combined program, the list of all programs will eventually be empty or empty. Check the number of recent programs that can be displayed in the Start Menu.

Method 1:

a. click Windows orb to open the Start Menu.

b. right-click on all programs, and then select open.

c. double-click the folder programs. There should be a list of folders.

d. create a new folder.

e. Select a bunch of files in the folder programs and drag the folders to the new folder.

f. restart your computer and check if the programs are shown when you click on start > all programs.

g repeat the above steps until the list is displayed in all programs.

Method 2:

You can also try the following steps and check if it helps...

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following windows Help article.

Back up the registry

a. Click Start and type regedit.exe.

b. Select regedit in the search list.

c. now, navigate to the following keys:-
HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

d. the value of Start Menu to "%USERPROFILE%\Start Menu".

e. go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders.

f. common value Start Menu to "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu.

g. close the registry editor and restart the machine.

Hope this information is useful.

  • Delete an EMPTY FOLDER in the all programs list.

SuperAntiSpyware uninstalled from my computer. Now, the name appears in the list of programs, when you click on the Start button.

I can't find out how to remove the empty file with the name of SuperAntiSpyware.

    Thanks guys...

What happens if you right click and select "remove from this list"?

The above is that if you have a shortcut for SuperAntiSpyware in the main part of the start menu.  If you mean that when you click on "All programs" you still see a folder named "SuperAntiSpyware" then open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start start\program and delete the folder "SuperAntiSpyware".

  • All programs list - moved shortcut on the desktop, but want to add back to the list of all programs

I moved a shortcut from the list of all programs on the desktop.  I would like to keep the shortcut on the desktop, but also restore on all programs.  How can I do this?  I tried drag-and-drop and Windows Explorer without success.  Topic is not found in help.  Windows XP Professional SP3.

the visual office includes folders and you can copy the shortcut via Solution Explorer.

simply right-click on the Start button and select open.

Explorer opens on the behalf of users.

If you look closely, you will see a folder called desktop.

    find the shortcut, then copy.

Find the folder of programs all then drill down to the subfolder you want and paste the shortcut in him.

You can also use the above method to organize your desktop.

Incidentally, do not play with the admin folder or all users.

  • All programs list

Go to the Start button, selecting programs all does list all programs, about 8 of them.  How to get back my list of programs?

Usually, this happens because a piece of malware hides the shortcuts in the "All Users" folder.
As an administrator user, follow these steps to display all shortcuts or folders that have been hidden:

    1. Bring up a command prompt window (start-> Run-> "cmd") or (Windows key + R-> "cmd")
    2. Enter the following command at the command prompt:

      attrib "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Menu Menu\Programs\*.*" h / d/s

(be sure to include the quotation marks)

    3. This should display hidden entries in your Start menu.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to run a Malware scan on your computer.  A free program is MalwareBytes

Where is my list of programs?  Click Start, point to all programs, he said only: .  I had Windows Repair malware infect my computer at about the same time has been observed.  I got everything except my list all programs.

You could try a system restore to a point before being infected.  In my opinion, you should probably flatten and rebuild the box...

  • "All programs" is empty after running Registry Cleaner

After running registry cleaning software, I lost the ability to see all my programs when I click on "All programs"... property is (empty)... same problem when I click on "Favorites"... resulting (blank)... suggestions?

It would be good to know how the system restore has failed.

Any registry cleaner worthy of the name should back up the registry or at least to save the made changes so that you could "undo" them.  Try to run to the top and look for an option "Cancel".

Another possible option would be to create a new user on your system.  When a new user is created, the default desktop items are regenerated and this could be a way to get back them.

Other than that, you may have to re-create your icons to find programs in the folder c:\Program Files\ and recreate the shortcuts on your desktop and start menu.

The register is an essential part of Windows and should not be messed with except if you know enough to back up the registry before you do anything about him, and restore the registry when things go wrong.

  • Start "All programs" menu empty file (Windows Vista)

All my programs on my menu start "all programs" folder disappeared. There are a few but those I recently downloaded. Accessories is not yet there. I searched all cases online to find the authors response to repopulate my all programs, but without success.

I have restarted my computer several times. I did an analysis of checker (SFC) to file system. I ran a registry by Uniblue Fixer; I tried antivirus scans and analyses ad-aware; nothing seems to work. I still have all my programs and have lost but they are simply not easy access and I really want to take the time to build my own folder "all programs." I really want my old one back. But how?

And P.S. I can't just restore because I never ran a backup before, so there is nothing to restore.

    Thank you!!!

1.) open the path below, replace the {username} with your own login
    Start\program C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start
2.) look if there is nothing there. If there is not something, it means it is initially empty. Meaning, it could have been deleted accidentally away.

Recovery of most of them back
1.) go to the path below, with a different name as {username} by default or user
    Start\program C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start
2.) copy them through your way with your {username} don't forget not to vote also useful for others and to accept the proposed response, if it is relevant build it KB in this Forum.

  • Organize the all programs list in group folders

Up to Windows 7, I could combine my programs in the list of all programs into folders (such as 'Software Development Apps' or 'Windows Apps').  But I'm not (so far) able to do this with Windows 7 and my programs list is too big.  Is there a way to group applications in Windows 7?

    Hi Dcowan,

    ·         What happens when you try to drag and drop programs in the folder?

Personally, I tried to consolidate programs in all programs in Windows 7 and I was able to do the same.

You should be able to do the same thing.

You can select the program in all programs, drag the program to the necessary folder where you want to add and drop.

  • Programs on all programs show empty

Hi bonjy03, got a virus trojan:DOS / Alureon.E and can't open some programs more missing icons on the desktop after the jremoved virus. How can I get back them

I'm not sure it's the virus you've had, but there was a malware out there that simply set the hidden attribute on the programs and the desktop icons.  First, configure your computer so that you can see hidden files.  To do this:
Double-click any folder, and then Tools-> Folder Options-> View (tab)->
Then click on the show the hidden... files"" button. "and clear the check from the box" Hide protected operating system... " ».
He's going to complain about it, but just insist that it's OK.

And search for hidden files in the following directories (they will appear "ghosts"), right-click on it, select 'Properties' and turn off the "Hidden" attribute  Look in these directories:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Bureau
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users Menu
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Menu run\programs
    C:\Documents and Settings\\Start Menu
    C:\Documents and Settings\\Desktop

Once completed, you can return to the display of hidden files for the settings that you prefer.
