  System Restore is not always a very good thing for applications.

  Reinstall is unlikely to help. But if your accounts are all imap and that you do not have a lot of other data (address book, for example) in Thunderbird, you could start from scratch.

  Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode.   This means that you have previously imported these pictures/videos into Lightroom, and you must not (and are not allowed to) import them again.

  It seems that the laptop still has internal components in place. It could be a corrupted hard drive (it can still run, but the heads may be damaged or out of alignment). I can suggest two things to do.

  First, see if you can get to the BIOS and see if the HD is listed. Some BIOS have a util. HD test see if who will run.

  Second, get a live linux DVD (I use Linux Mint cinnamon) and when you start the laptop, press the function key (on my old dv9700 is a F9) select the DVD drive and see if the machine will start with the live DVD. NOTE: you need more time, then you are use to because it runs on the DVD player. If it works, your hard drive is damaged.
