All Users Temp damaged and unreadable

Recently, every time I play a game on my computer or open a program that writes to a specific folder, I get a message that the file is "damaged and unreadable.  The folder is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Temp.  I can't open the folder as he calls the same message "corrupted and unreadable" However right click and checking the properties of the folder say it is empty.

Things tried so far:
chdksk that indicates the volume was dirty, cleaned the inconsistencies, no bad sectors.
has ran diagnostics hard drive which is no problem;
ran scans with antivirus/antispyware programs updated (all results were clean);
Defragment the hard drive and ran the system cleanup.

My computer is fully patched with all Microsoft Security updates and hardware drivers are up to date.  I am running Windows XP Home edition, with 2 GB of RAM, processor 2.79 GHz, 110 GB hard drive with 83 GB free.  Does anyone have an idea re: this may be the cause and how can I solve this problem?

Thank you.

I just wanted you to know, I have used Hirens to begin the GUI miniXP and was able to delete the TEMP folder to use.  Then, I ran chkdsk /r again and rebooted.  The folder was gone and I hired no additional error of all programs opening who was writing in this folder.  And each several reboots, the record has yet to appear again.

I have no explanation how this folder appeared and executable program wrote it, but I suspect that the hard drive could be on the way, despite the chkdsk and hddiagnostics say otherwise.

Everything is saved and I'm ready to install a new drive if the worst should happen.

Thank you for all your help with this strange problem.  I certainly appreciate.

From what you say, you are probably unable to start Windows.

In this case, when you start the computer, keep tapping the key "F8" on the keyboard until the Advanced menu comes up. Then choose "Safe Mode".

You will see something like your ordinary, here to enter office "chkdsk volume: /f" (replace with your hard drive volume, in most cases, it's 'c') at the command prompt.

  • Removal of damaged and unreadable files

After recovering from a failure of the HD, restoration has added a few corrupted files. I can't remove them and have used all of the methods suggested, I could find (for example, chkdsk, disk cleaner, unlocker, safemode, Hiren BootCD)? Apparently the failed drive content/caused some files to become corrupt were then copied to the backup file and more later restored corrupted.

I replaced the defective drive and then restored from a backup, Acronis. The Documents and Settings folder found \temp so I could copy the files needed for new Documents and Settings. Everything seemed to have worked fine until I tried to remove the Documents and Settings is no longer necessary to \temp. Now, I have a number of different files in \temp which cannot be deleted. Error when I try to remove one of the offending files is "cannot delete [filename]: the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

Can someone suggest another method to clean up this mess short of reformatting the new drive and reinstall again? TIA.

    Hello

    ·         Do you have an error message when you run the disk check?

I suggest to run the check disk in safe mode and check if it helps.

WARNING: When Chkdsk detects problems with the file system and tries to repair the damage, data loss may occur. Microsoft does not recommend running Chkdsk with the /f command-line switch unless you have a full backup of your hard drive.

Attempt to repair the damaged file, the folder or the index system using check diskfile. To do this, follow these steps:

    (a) click Startand then click run.

    (b) in the Open box, type chkdsk /f :, where is the letter of the drive on which the file is damaged, the folder or the file system index exists.

    (c) click Yes to schedule disk check when the computer is restarted.

    (d) restart the computer and let the disk check run and check.

NOTE: If the hard disk is large, Chkdsk may take several minutes to several hours to complete.

I'm not biased. I'm not an advocate for the Member States. I have been involved in the MS newsgroups since 2003 and have seen what Norton (McAfee) and can do. Especially for an e-mail client.

I saw, too, what MS has produced over the years and don't like a lot of their programs. I feel, however, that they got the right MOUSE. It is not a resource hog like Norton is a thing. (BTW. IMHO, Norton was a great AV program until Peter Norton sold the company to Symantec).

I saw many problems corrected over the years with the removal of Norton. The most common problem people have when vendors group with their Norton software free trials. Once enabled, run that the removal tool is a must if the user wishes to use a different AV program

  • The file or directory to _ is damaged and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.

Since a few days ago, I started having these notifications tray for two specific instant messaging programs, I am running on a daily basis:

There is no problem at all with the two programs - they run flawlessly, as they have always done.

but I have no idea what causes these notifications to pop up - something must be wrong

So I was trying to run Chkdsk, the message said, opening cmd as administrator, then "chkdsk /f c:" but then I get this error:

I did restart and wait that chkdsk is running just after start-up but then:

How this can be resolved without having to reinstall windows?

If you have the system file corruption, you are probably at the end of the rope - so to speak.  Try to rerun the SFC.  Sometimes a 2nd or even 3rd run corrects corruption.

Try the system restore.  It can solve your problem if she wasn't there too long.  Usually, it is best to do the restore from SafeMode (F8 at startup)

Much more likely, you will need to re - build.  Choice:

1 restore the partition from the factory

    2. any re - install a Win7 disc

    3. implement non-destructive install

If I were in your shoes, I would like to re - install Windows 7.  It's a tedious process - may 6 to 12 hours passed depending on the speed of your Internet connection and your computer, and it has the amount of memory.  Such a process will lead you to a purely clean and absolutely pristine system that will have significantly improved performance.

First back up your data, but do something.  Windows Easy Transfer can create a file for a later transfer. For this, use a large external hard drive.

Now find the software tester training from the manufacturer of your hard drive.  Run three tests to ensure you have a reliable hard drive before starting this process.  It may take a few hours, but I wouldn't do that until this, and you're confident.  If necessary, replace the hard drive - not a particularly expensive or difficult process.

Choice 1: If your computer came with a factory restore partition, restore that.  Learn how to access the factory restore partition.  It is likely to be found using F8 during the startup of the existing system.

According to what you have purchased, you must then many UN-installing of unwanted programs.  Don't let no one antivirus or internet security system installs until you are at the end of this process - the last thing you do.  Also do not put a password on your computer until you have completely finished.  If the antivirus or Internet security is installed in this choice 1, uninstall it.  Now start Windows Update, but first change so that it will give you all the updates Microsoft, not only Windows ones. There are probably hundreds of them and it will take hours, but you don't have to watch it.  There will be several rounds of updates.  Keep the new verification updated to what there not.

Now, install your applications, but only the most immutable stable, for example Microsoft Office.  You can have a few more rounds of updates after that.  Do a Defrag.  No data yet.

Then take a step that almost nobody does, but if you are already in a similar situation, even once, you'll thank yourself for making.  Create a system image using the Maintenance until the restoration.  Use of the DVD - from 2 to 4.  It will take nearly an hour, but when you are finished, you will have a DVD set that can be used to restore the system to this account or a new drive is precisely what you have so far.  While you're at home spend 5 minutes and create a CD repair system Windows7.

Of course, after that, you can add your volatile applications such as Flash Player, etc..  Then run Windows Easy Transfer to retrieve all your data and settings.  It's positively amazing how it works, you will find that you won't see a difference with before except that it will be incredibly faster.

Choice 2: Fact, I prefer this option. Use an original DVD of Microsoft Windows 7, preferably Service Pack 1. It can be any DVD of Windows 7 to the same variety of product - for example the publishing house and 32 or 64 bit depending on your system.   Make sure you have the key of Activation for Microsoft Windows written down.   The only downside to this option is that it is possible but not likely that you might have to find a driver.  This doesn't happen often because even the drivers that the Windows 7 installation process itself does not, will be probably provided in your first pass of Windows Update. Once you get the Windows installation, everything above will be the same.

Choice 3:  Follow this link for a good description of how to do

http://WindowsSecrets.com/top-story/WIN7S-no-reformat-nondestructive-reinstall/   This choice will require a lot of time to Windows updates as well.

    Notes:

I will not work on a computer with ANY Internet security product in this regard.  Everything you want or need is an antivirus product.  The other stuff that is part of their packages don't you will that cause problems.

Intel has a utility to update driver (assuming that yours is Intel based) which is absolutely excellent.

You don't need a disc burner program.  Windows had built.

After you're done create a restore point.

  • file or directory C:\user\owner\appdata\roaming is corrupted and unreadable

    Hello

I tried clicking on the itunes program and got a message saying that itunes has been corrupted (c4:itunes exe file or directory C:\User\Owner\AppData\Roaming is damaged and unreadable. Please run ChkDsk utility).  It's the same thing with the Adobe 9 reader.  I tried to run the harddrive utility and he said that he could not work while the hard drive was running.  He said to plan a disk check, what will happen when the computer is restarted.  I clicked on it and then turn off the computer.  I turned it back on and nothing happened.  Then I tried to uninstall and reinstall the programs.  I was able to uninstall and reinstall Itunes, but it still doesn't work.  The Adobe 9 reader would either uninstall or installation.  Finally, I tried to restore my computer back to before I got the problem.  When I tried to restore it, he said that the local C: drive was defective and I had to make a check of the hard drive, which basically brought me back to the first step.  Is it possible to fix this or I have to take.

    Hello jortiz6,

To resolve this problem, use the tool (SFC.exe) System File Checker to determine which file is causing the problem, then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER: sfc/scannow (Yes there is a space after sfc) the sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

After the sfc scan you can scan with Malwarebytes below to ensure that your system is clean:

Try to start your system in safe mode:

    1. Restart your computer if it is running.
    2. Press and hold the F8 key for 3 seconds after your computer powers initially on.
    3. Once you see the menu Advanced Boot Options, you can stop tapping.
    4. Up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
    5. Select Mode safe mode with networking and press ENTER.
    6. You should see drivers loading, it may take a few moments.
    7. You should then be at the Welcome screen.
    8. Connect to your computer using an account with administrator privileges.
    9. Now, you download (free) MalwareBytes from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol install, Update then do a scan of your system in safe mode, to ensure that it is indeed clean! Once the scan done remove anything it finds. Simply restart your PC to see if your problem has been resolved!

Hope this helps you. Let us know anyway. Make it a great day!
