always active hard drive

My hard drive seems to be active all the time, even when no application works.  According to the monitor system uses the image name msmpeng.exe between 20-40% of CPU when this happens.  What is the cause and how can I stop this.

You can test your computer in safe mode and see if the problem persists.

You can also test the os and the browser via the network in safe mode options.

Test the system in both modes for a couple of hours.

  • Windows 8 keeps on freezing, active hard drive at 100% of the time

Hello. I was wondering if someone could help me with a little problem I seem to have met. This happens only in the last few days after I installed an update of Windows 8. I don't remember if I installed something else during this time, but I highly doubt it. I had problems with my computer freeze on me after being the counterpart of 10 minutes. It's always the same thing as well. I boot up perfectly fine, I can browse the internet and go through my files when suddenly my hard drive light goes solid, I check the Task Manager and it says that the activity time is 100% but is not read anything, and none of the files using the resources of hard drive which makes no sense. Before that happens, the Service Host: Local Service (small network) tends to spike up and down, as well as the system. I guess the system is a piece of data that the computer has recently been started and is still in process of initialization files.

I am currently only able to run the laptop in Safe Mode. I can't mount /sfc on the normal start and had to do through Mode without failure. I tried a clean boot, but nothing helps, the problem still persisted. I want to try to disable several Microsoft applications, but I'm not too sure about those to whom I can turn off safely. The laptop is a Samsung Series 3, model NP355v5c-S08SE. Any help will be greatly appreciated this is currently shooting in the source of all banes!
    Thank you.

  • BIOS pass no HARD drive itself.

The computer is HP Pavilion p6-2133w. Product # QW728AA #ABA. Windows 7 32 bit. No changes have been made. It started about two weeks ago. After the shut down and restart the BIOS changed the HARD drive for people with reduced mobility. Computer would not boot, just a black screen with a blinking cursor. Stop and restart I have to go to the cmos to change the rear of the active HARD drive and the computer will boot into Windows. I've never seen a BIOS itself by itself before changing. Does anyone have any ideas?

Well boys and girls the initial problem of this computer by disabling the HARD drive seems to have been caused by a person changing modem wired to wireless modem without shutting down the computer first or change of wireless modem to the cable modem without shutting down the computer first. So far no one no occurrence of this problem given that the situation described above has been addressed. Thanks for your contribution and your help. I'll tell you that this problem has been resolved.

  • Permutation of my HARD drive SSD, need a file ISO in Windows 8

    Hi all

First of all, sorry for the long story, I want to clarify.
I use a laptop ASUS ROG G750, came with preinstalled Windows 8. I've updated to windows 8.1 blue as it was released.
I am facing the load always full HARD drive problems constantly, tried several solutions but not worked so far (the parameters of maintenance, defragmentation...). Some have said probably the cause comes from the windows installation, the establishment did not leave 350MB partition C:... I have no idea, and all other stations have no training. This should be the last of them, as other people who buy the same laptop got a 30% rate to have this problem.
I want to move to a SSD, I got a Plextor M5S 128 G.  Now the new problem arises... I don't know how to start.
    1. I would like to install Windows 8.1 directly, but I think that my laptop have windows 8, and it wouldn't work like that.
    2. I don't have a Windows 8 or 8.1 version OEM to install, I tried an ISO from the site of microsoft retailer, but it requires a key retailer...
So it would be great and awesome if someone can tell me anywhere who can make me an official ISO file, Windows 8 legitimate. There are a lot of windows 8 / 8.1 preactivated out there to get it, but above all they are Pro or enterprise... version I don't want to use a cracked version of Windows, as I don't have a product key, why would I?
    -----------------
UPDATE: Im download an OEM of Windows 8 version from an unreliable source, it mentions that if my laptop has Slic 3.0, it would automatically add the product key from the Bios...
    If it works?
    -----------------
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance.

    That's what you do:

    If you're running Windows 8:

    Press Windows + W

    Type: create the recovery disk

    Press enter

Insert a USB stick 8 GB or more space

Click next and follow the instructions on the screen

If you are running Windows 8.1:

    Press Windows + S

    Type: create the recovery disk

    Press enter

Insert a USB stick 8 GB or more space

Click next and follow the instructions on the screen

Connect the recovery drive and the start of it.

When booting from the recovery of Windows 8 disk (USB drive or optical disk); the Windows logo is displayed on a black screen for a few moments; in the background, the computer actually starts in the environment of Windows Recovery (called simply, Windows RE).
Windows RE is based on Windows PE (Windows Preinstallation Environment)

How Windows RE works, once a prompt asking the user to choose a keyboard layout; for example, we could choose available United States. However, if the layout you want do not appear; then, select,
    See more keyboards.
(There is a total of 16 pages of keyboard layouts, arranged in alphabetical order).

This next screen allows three important options:

Click the Troubleshootingoption: it's the refresh option. Reset the computer; or, use the advanced disk recovery tools.

Click the Reset the PCoption: this option will reset the PC and at the same time, remove all the files.
Windows RE will find and save all data, settings, and applications; It will then install a fresh copy of Windows and restore all data, applications and settings.
When the PC is restarted. Connect with the existing username and password and it will find all the installed data.

However, desktop applications that have been installed will not be backed up or restored. the reasoning is that it is possible that a recently installed desktop application might be the cause of instability.
Windows RE will create a list of applications that were not backed up or restored, so that a decision can be taken, if it need to reinstall them.
  • Operating system does not load unless the 2nd hard drive is in.

I have 2 installations of windows 8 (one in each of my 2 hard drives). The hard drive is almost broken, but it seems that if I unplug it I won't get a screen asking me which operating system to load from. I want it so I have 1 hard disk whereas my os works can start. How to do this?

Looks like all the boot information on the main active hard drive. If this drive is not available, then the other operating system is not available. Reconnect the drive which can boot into Windows 8 and create recovery media that allows you to recover the drive which is not booting:

    create a repair disk:

    http://winsupersite.com/article/Windows8/Windows-8-tip-create-recovery-media-144098

Boot from the recovery media that you create.

    (a) in the screen install now

    (b) click on repair your computer

  • Satellite L655-11J - always-hard drive activity

    Toshiba please I need help

The first round of my laptop, I entered my position, my name, and a password, I have install Toshiba updates and Windows 7 updates (notifications, I had), then I noticed that the hard drive is active all the time, and the laptop is very slow. I tried a lot of things to restore the original image of Toshiba built into the laptop and I finally did thinking maybe I did something wrong

The hard drive remains always active (not sure what reading or writing) no monitoring for any activity very slow laptop and many search for sounds.

any solution please, I had this problem the use first of it :(

    Hello

You have other software or drivers after installing Windows 7 or that happen you directly after the installation of recovery of Windows 7?

In your case I would try to disable some startup programs and if McAfee Antivirus is still installed, remove it and install another program like AntiVir antivirus.
Then test again if you have still a lot of HARD drive activity.

If so follow the instructions posted by Akuma.

  • Satellite A500 - 14 k - HARD Drive LED indicator always flashes

    Hello

First sorry for my bad English

    I'm french and I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A500 - 14 k (http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A500-14K/1072806)

I have a little problem with this laptop and I don't know if anyone has a solution

The HARD drive light flashes constantly (1 blinking per second) even in safe mode. I checked some forums and I learned he had something to do with the function of autorun cd /dvd CD/DVD recorder.

If the autorun feature is disabled in the windows registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\CDRom and the key value goes from 1 to 0) the flashing disappears, but I can't access my data from CD or DVD (media are marked as empty). However, the audio CD and video DVD work except that they cannot be started automatically.

The same thing happens if the CD/DVD writer is disabled in the control panel Device Manager: the led indicator has a normal activity.

I would like if this problem occurs with other owners of this product and if there is a solution to use normally without this flash recorder

    Thank you

I don't have A500 but A300 and I can't say with certainty why this and what kind of HARD drive activity is ongoing, but what you can try is to remove some pre-installed Toshiba stuff like TEMPRO or pre-installed application antivir.

When the laptop is new days that many updates will be installed and in the background is always a certain activity. Automatic update is disabled?
Try also to remove TEMPRO. This tool is active permanent and search for updates.
Try to optimize the operating system preinstalled and carefully monitor if something will change. I always do after clean operating system installation.

  • Install the hard drive in the ultrabay slot Gets the benefits of the active protection system?

    Hi all

I have a 500 GB 7200 RPM hard drive I bought Lenovo and a hard drive caddy that is the thin (so there is a slight gap for those who are curious) on the thinkpad t510. what I was wondering is I dualboot on it (linux on the 500 GB) and I'm wondering if when I use windows, is the second hdd always get protected against shocks and other potentially dangerous damage of active protection system which is present for the hard disk which is preinstalled on your laptop

Based on marketing materials, it seems that the UltraBay has this feature as well.

If your computer comes with a qualifying previous license such as Windows Vista or Windows XP and the certificate of authenticity is still attached to the machine in good condition, then the COST is reason enough to represent the compliance to the software license agreement.
