amdkmdap

I had a computer built for me with an ASUS X 58 motherboard P6 SE and a Diamond Radeon HD5770 1 gig with 6 GB video card memory - DDR3 1333 3 gig of 2 tokens for a total of 6 gig.  I get this error even in basic display.  At this point, the company that made the computer leaning towards it being a problem of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit software.  I have your opinion on this subject.  The display of the error is amdkmdap.  The computer company has already loaded the latest driver and that didn't fix the problem.  The computer is now in the shop.

"be a problem of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit software.

  • R400/T400/T500/W500: display driver "amdkmdap" hangs

Summary: Lenovo ThinkPads with switchable graphics (R400, T400 and T500, W500) have problems of usability under Vista and using external monitors. More than six months, users have been plagued by frequent Windows crashes. During this time, Lenovo will not expressed complaints and reports available. The end of April 2009, Lenovo has solved a lot of problems by releasing a new official driver. However, several problems, including serious, remain as of today. Lenovo said to work actively on the issues pending (without results so far).

Important information for users: If you experience any of the problems reported here, then Lenovo will advise you to call your local Lenovo support. Application that a case is submitted to engineering equipment. In particular, you should ask "a case CMVC to be created and degenerate". These "code words" ensures that your case be treated correctly.

    Old description of the problem

On Vista 32 and Vista 64, the "amdkmdap" ATI display driver hangs when an external monitor was active before OR an application (game) using the DirectX technology is used. The user receives usually few messages called "Timeout detection and recovery" (TDR) of Vista:

(Click here for an explanation of the message from Microsoft)

Sometimes, amdkmdap falls down several times in a row. Then, Windows crashes with a so-called "BSOD", probably resulting in a loss of data. Generally, Windows detects "atikmpag.sys" as the driver to crash. Instant restart sometimes also independent from the front THAT TDR crashes. In such a case, no BSOD is displayed.

The following video illustrates the phenomenon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBX9QsCmrpY

Above this behavior has been confirmed for the following ThinkPad models: R400, T400 and T500, W500 (see below). Problem reports that symptoms are often related to play games or the laptop being docked and the external monitor connected via DVI.

However, the presence of these two conditions is not necessary to trigger the accident to the driver:

    1. There are reports where no dock was involved and the external monitor is connected directly to the laptop VGA port.
    2. In addition, there are reports where the laptop is docked and an external monitor is connected to the DVI port.
    3. So far, there were no reports related to a monitor connected on the display Port that is available on some models. (Perhaps because this port is not used.)
    4. There are a few cases where a dock, or an external monitor was involved.
    5. Some games with reliability triggers the crash.

    Steps to reproduce

While initially (around September 2008 - October 2008) the accident can be triggered easily, the situation is now (December 2008) more complex. Accidents happen again, although there is no clear model more. According to various reports, the crash of display driver can be triggered as follows:

    • The output of the mode standby
    • Watching a DVD.
    • Playing one of these games: Fallout 3, Bioshock, Team Fortress 2, Knights of the Old Republic.
    • Arbitrarily during the normal work. A normal working day, the problem occurs at least once.

    Other issues

Here are several questions that seem to be related. More information can be found in other posts in this thread:

    • The laptop screen or external monitor works at a low resolution after the release of the standby mode.
    • After the connection, both monitors flicker when the screen resolution setting.
    • External monitors can be activated using Presentation Director.
    • The external monitor is empty after the connection or disconnection.
    • There are a few reports on the accidents of display driver on computers running Windows XP.
    • Switchable graphics drivers more than 2.5 GB RAM usable under Vista 32 (or 500 MB - 1 GB less than usual).

    Workarounds

Lenovo has released a new "trick" document that provides a link to a new driver. Get it here , but be sure to read the instructions!

(Old advice follow below the line. Think of them as obsolete.)

    ---

Here are some tips that could make the problem happen less often. I have not tried all the. However, a. and b. have improved the situation for me; your mileage may vary.

    A. Si you don't have to use an external monitor, then move to the Intel graphics card for now.

    Otherwise:

    B. make a few changes to your system:

    • Disable Aero.
    • Create a new profile in the Manager of power supply with the following parameter: when running on AC, turn off the screen after 40 minutes. (And therefore, the laptop less frequently between standby mode.)
    • Install the latest graphics drivers.
    • Install the newest BIOS.
    • Install the latest Hotkey utility.
    • Install the latest drivers.

    C. disable switchable graphics in the BIOS setup and install the drivers from ATI modded (see zilla poster in this thread for instructions).

The last solution (c.) has been confirmed to work reliably by several users. However, as a result, you use drivers that have not been tested by Lenovo. It is possible (but not likely) that damage the results by doing so. In addition, it may be difficult to install a Lenovo driver that solves the problems reported here. Finally, you cannot use the energy saving Intel graphics. Thus, you must use this workaround only if you know what you're doing.

The programs can be downloaded from the following locations. Note that update system not always immediately offers you the latest versions.

  • Re: R400/T400/T500/W500: display driver crashes "amdkmdap."

I just installed Windows 7 yesterday and of course, he had problems with this video card. I have a T500, bought in March of this year.

Everything worked fine after installing Windows 7. The problem was when I installed the video driver from Windows Update. The screen initially showed only the wallpaper after installation, and after that reboot the screen would just be black, showing only a cursor. I saw a few posts where someone said that this is because Windows thinks that a projector is installed, so you must press the button of the window + P, and then the right arrow, then enter. But I have not tried. I'm sick of this dang hacking video card!

Someone was able to get the card works well under Windows 7? Now I'm running it with just the default driver, which works fine until I try to connect an external monitor (it doesn't let me extend my screen).

If you have installed the driver Thinkpad Hotkey and OSD, you must disable autorun of the on-screen display program. The symptoms you describe are a bit like mine with the same problem

  • 5K iMac display driver problem crashing end of 2015

I have a new end 2015 27 "5K iMac, CTO with the i7, Fusion of 3 TB drive and the M395X w / 4 GB of VRAM. I got the plug 8 GB of RAM but put 16 GB of RAM spec Apple Crucial in both. All are adapted. I have clean education installed windows 10 via bootcamp, I also used to divide the disc fusion in partitions of equal size. I had some problems initially with Bluetooth for the magic mouse and display and had to manually install the drivers for the two. In the case of Bluetooth several times. By a very large extent, it was worth the most I got with an installation of bootcamp since the first version as issued. I don't know if it's windows or apple it was a mess of God awful things installed partially or not at all.

In any case, I got things set to the point where the system seemed stable and decided to start running some games through steam. This is when I started to have a great many problems with the system. More specifically, when I play games on steam I frequently either crash to the desktop or system chokes and throws me back to the default windows display drivers. I say this because I can't see the error appearing frequently in the observer of events just before these accidents is "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered." Usually, I have two error messages in a line in the newspaper timed just before the accident happens so I am sure that the pilot does not successfully and two kicks me back to the default windows display driver and the locking system until I quit the game via the Task Manager or comes crashing down on the desk. According to the event viewer, I had 20 warning messages (event ID 4101) in the last nine days (yes I play a lot for a 50 year old man).

Seriously, what gives apple? I drop to $3K on a machine and I can't even enjoy a game that this card should be more capable of running at a decent resolution (Fallout 4) because the drivers suck. AMD released the bootcamp drivers on September 21 last year. They claim they have the latest drivers available (and their latest stable version for systems non-bootcamp is December 15 last year, after having released only 12 days ago the beta drivers) for bootcamp, but you guys are sitting on them because you certify drivers. So, yet again, what gives? Can we get the drivers, we need to use the systems we paid a premium for it please?

If you want to try non-Apple certified drivers, you can test with WHQL drivers, or try and BCA allows you to download the latest available package and check the version of the drivers available vs installed. AMD GPU are bad when they are in the Mac running Windows. This does not happen on OS X side.

There are number of threads about the drivers for the AMD GPU and a lot of experimentation within the CSA for Windows drivers.

  • VGP-PRZ20 docking station not able to withdraw

When I press the LOGOUT button, I get two error messages. One of them reads "before you unplug or turn off the AMD XGP docking station, make sure that you close the applications that run on the accelerated screens. Do you want to continue? "The other said,"you cannot eject your computer because the "\driver\amdkmdap" driver prevents a device be stopped right now. Try closing all applications and ejecting the computer later. "OK, what I've done and how to cancel it in order to grab my laptop and go when I want? Thank you for your help.

Thanks for getting back to me. My model, SVZ13114GXX, is not listed in the affected products and operating systems.

  • Video display zino 410-driver stops responding

I have a new Zino 410 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5450 video card installed. The driver shows version date 08/06/2010 8.743.0.0. At least once a day, the screen freezes and usually comes back with a message that "Display driver amdkmdap unresponsive and was retrieved successfully. The event id is 4101 in Event Viewer.

I have checked the sites Dell and ATI/AMD and an update of appropriate driver cannot be found. Windows 7 also shows that the driver is updated, like the Dell Support Center.

Does anyone else have this problem? I know what particular application may be the cause of the issue? I get the problem on some Web sites, with Picasa 3.0. Any ideas to try to solve this problem? Sometimes it freezes my PC and I have to hard it reboot.

    Thank you

Hello lauriej.  I understand that your graphics driver becomes inadmissible.

Have you tried to update your BIOS?  Here is a direct link to the latest version of the BIOS.

In addition, is this driver currently installed?

Have you tried to use another web browser like Mozilla FireFox or Google Chrome to see if the problem persists in browsers?

I'll keep an eye out for your answer.  I hope you have a wonderful evening!

    EDIT: Posted the incorrect driver.
