An external drive using DVD seems impossible with NB100 Win XP

Hallo,

I work with my NB100 half a year.
Now, I want to connect an external CD/DVD drive to I.

The first hard drive I bought, was bad luck. Often I had to reboot my system several times until it was found, but it worked. Now, I have given this drive and tried another.
Often a held message ' berspannung a USB - Hub ", (not now how to translate correct - but this means that the power required is for many).

So I got a USB Hub with it's own power suply. Now it works sometimes, but as imidiately is calld a "unknown device", and so it does not work until I have restart the system. With a little luck it works for a few minutes until it "disappears" again.

I'm unhappy, or is there a mistake, that I have now?

Thanks for help

Ernst

Hello

The notebooks USB ports provide a standard power supply which is 500mA.
It is a standard, and usually all USB external devices it should support as well
But these needs of external devices, more power and it could happen sometimes that a device does not work correctly

I have no idea of what device you are using, but I recommend using the one recommended and supported by Toshiba
Usually, you should be able to buy this ODD to a Toshiba authorized service partner in your country

However it s advisable to change some settings in the Manager of devices that are associated with the USB ports.
You should go to-> hub properties Device Manager USB root-> (last tab) power management and needs to check if this option is not selected.

  • Restore the data in the external drive using Time Machine

    Hi y ' All!

I store my photos in my external hard drive because there is not enough space in memory is internal. This is actually my second drive external hard than my first (Adata HE720) is not the beginning of last year. Unfortunately, my WD Elements has stopped working and I can't restore data using Time Machine, as the drive is not found in Time Machine under devices, and I'm sure that I restored my photo library and many other files from my old external drive using Time Machine.

Can someone tell me how to recover my old files? I have many other important data here including my photos and I don't want to lose them. I'm fairly positive that Time Machine allows me to get the data as is the point of it.

    Thank you in advance!

P.S. If you guys have any recommendation on a reliable external drive, please do tell me!

Hey guys, I found the problem.

It turns out that I'm never giving time Machine to deselect my external drive to backup; Therefore, there is absolutely no copy done during execution Time machine. I really don't understand why Apple made this the default behavior, but it is what it is.

So, people, don't forget to go to Time Machine preferences and make sure that you remove the external hard drive that you want to backup under options. Once you do, you can enter the time Machine and your drive will appear under devices.

    See you soon.

N ° Time Machine backs up only the locally connected readers. He cannot back up a network share.

  • Windows 8 will support external drives to dvd of windows 7.

I love windows 8 and surface pro and I already have a usb for surface pro hub and I was wondering if I could easily connect a windows 7 external dvd drive with windows 8 installed. And also I will have to get a usb 3.0 hub because my hub usb is only 2.0 because I am pro surface.

    Hello

    1. What is the brand and model of the external DVD drive?

Almost all feature works great on Windows 8 preview version, which were already working on the Windows 7 operating system.

Verify that the device is compatible with Windows 8 from the following link:

Yes, you will have a USB 3.0 port on the Surface Pro.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Windows 7 does not recognize my 3 Seagate external drives but is very good with Western Digital and other sticks USB Flash. Windows Vista will see them.

My apologies if this is a query repeatedly, but I can't find a job anywhere and he leads me into the wall.

I have 3 external Seagate hard drives. All 3 range from about 3 years 11 months old, 1 TB - 3 TB of capacity, and I use them all from time to time to back up my media. In the past months, my Dell XPS ceased to recognize them, 95% of the time. Sometimes they will be Plug and Play and be fine, but otherwise the result when I plug them is coming the power light and the whirring disc fortunately but nothing on the laptop. They recognized themselves on my other machines running Vista. All other Flash memory devices are very good.

I also have a hard drive Western Digital external powered, almost identical, that Plug and play every time.

I tried all my ports and various cables and adapters. I tried them on other machines and they are very good, it seems to be just with my Dell and the Seagates. It recognizes everything that I plug in there from the iPhone to Flash Drives. It has all the latest drivers and Windows updates.

When they're not working, they do not appear in the devices, disk management, Explorer or UVCView Manager. When they do, all settings appear to be well. My laptop runs Windows 7 Edition Home Premium with Service Pack 1.

I assigned each their own letter drive, disabled power management and they are not protected by Word. The drivers are the standard Windows ones, because these devices do not use their own. I have the latest chipset drivers, everything works perfectly and is completely up to date.

When I run UVCView (when one of them does not work), it is said there is an error autour MaxPacketSize, current externally is set to 9 and it said "ERROR: low peripheral speed require bMaxPacketSize0 = 8" branded error. I don't know if this is a factor? This may explain why it's slower transfer data to my machine that has USB3.0 it does on another machine, it begins at 130 MB/s and falls to 30 in 10 seconds.

I tried all combinations of power off.

    I activated the network detection.

I uninstalled all the USB in the Device Manager and reinstalled after the start.

All 3 discs work instantly in my older Vista laptop runing.

I am a loss to understand. I'm pulling my hair out and I don't have a lot to lose these days! There must be a setting in my computer or on the Seagates but I checked all the usual places and some of the more irritable areas.

    Thank you in advance.

I'm surprised that the removal of the INFCACHE did not work.  Readers (all external references in fact) were cut at the time, right?  With a reboot after and before you plug anything back?

These instructions really come down to:

Unplug all USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse
    Open C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore
    INFCACHE.1 and rename it INFCACHE.old
    Restart the computer
Reconnect it (one at a time) each USB device - giving the system about 30 seconds per device to 'catch up '.

If you got on the rest as well your system files are good to go.

  • Backup Virtual Machines on the (external) drive using only vSphere4 customer?

    Hello

I'm trying to make a backup of my virtual drive installed on an external hard drive (eSATA). The disc is recognized and everything seems fine, but I can't find a feature in vSphere4 client that allows me to copy a virtual machine. In "Datastore Browser", there is a function that allows to move the virtual machine to a data store to another, but not copy.

The only option that I've found so far is to copy the virtual machine for the labtop vSphere4 a client by using the "Download" feature but it is very very slow due to 100MBit/s network and HARD drive connected by USB.

I missed something in the vSphere4 customer?

I am aware that VMware Data Recovery does just that, but I don't have the money to buy the necessary license.

    Kind regards

    Thomas

One option is to enter the folder, select all the files, right click and select copy, and then create a new folder, enter into it, right click and select Paste.

  • play music on external drive using wmp

I have a large external hard drive filled with music.  I want to play music with Windows Media Player without loading music on my computer, filling my c: drive.  Any advice?

In WMP, click on the 'File' menu and select 'Add to library'.  (Or press ).  By clicking on the button "Advanced Options" allows you to specify the locations of the music files you want to add.  Add these files to the WMP library do not move files to the original location, but will tell WMP where find them easily when you want to read.

    2. Open Server Manager, navigate to the features summary section and click add features.

It is the section on the recovery of an old version of Windows.  My situation is all on Windows Vista.  Maybe I shouldn't use these intstructions.

When I get to this step I can't find Server Manager.  I opened everthing under admin tools, and there is nothing that looks like this.

  • Movement music from itunes to a new external drive

    Hello!

So there are a lot of questions in the face of this general problem, but I found no one who comes close to my situation.

There are at present all music from my iTunes (~1.4 TB) library is shared between two external drives. I just bought a new laptop (3 TB) and would like to move - preferably not copy, I know that straight-up moving items between volumes is possible in the terminal, I don't know the right commands - all this music to the new drive. My iTunes Library.itl and the rest of the folder iTunes at the same time, are on my computer, I don't know if we keep them there or move them as well.

I use any file "iTunes Media. Most of my library is rips of CD and downloads without loss, and I prefer to keep the organized myself (as including scans of records covers music and writing notes and other information about the record such as comments). "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy the files into the iTunes Media folder when adding to library" is, therefore, both uncontrolled. And I think that naming a new file on the new drive as "iTunes Media" and then checking "Consolidate files" in the file > library > organize library to copy all the music she would keep the folder structure I created or transfer through the images, log files, PDF files, etc..

Can anyone advise on what would allow me to do this with a minimum of disruption to my iTunes library (IE not having to add all and recreate all my playlists, etc., which, in itself, would take another hours 20, or whatever on top of the amount of time it will take to move all files?)

    Thanks in advance!

    OS X 10.7.5 / iTunes 12.1.2.27

If you want iTunes to do the work (as expected), let iTunes do its work...    That would mean designate a location on the new drive for the iTunes Media folder (in the Advanced iTunes preferences pane) by using the command to "consolidate files" (-> library menu bar-> organize the library-> consolidate the files).

IF all your current iTunes media on the external drive files are on a SINGLE volume (not two), you can copy your folder structure complete (for your iTunes media files) to the new volume of external hard drive (using the Finder).  Then with iTunes works DO NOT, unplug the old external drive and rename the new external drive exactly the same name volume as the old volume of external drive.  Basically, do the new disc looks like the old drive to iTunes.  When you run iTunes, the "routes" to its multimedia files are the same as before, so iTunes sees no difference.

But since your iTunes media is 'shared between two external drives', you can't do it cleanly.  If a part is much more important, you could do the above with the majority only.  Now, at this point, you can use it in this way, with the new external drive as your main expansion of storage in course, and existing 'other' always connected player.  In iTunes, it seems again the same as before.

If you want that all your media files to iTunes on the new external drive...  Copy this second folder (with your smallest part of iTunes media) structure to the new external drive (using the Finder).  With iTunes doesn't work DO NOT, unplug the 'other' external drive.  When you run iTunes, it loses track of media files in this part (but keep those songs with exclamation point in the library).  This next part may or may not work.  When iTunes spot is no longer a song file, when you try to play it, iTunes will ask if you want to locate.  I heard that if you do this for a song (by pointing to the new location for this piece), iTunes can extrapolate the locations for the other files 'disappeared' of the song.  If it does not work with the first song (or partially works), try to do it for a little more.  Worst case, you will need to add the songs in the smaller part manually.

  • Problems with the re - import processing in Lightroom 5 of the external drive.

I do not know what question to ask, so I'll explain what I was doing, what I'm trying to accomplish, and how I failed on this point. Several months ago, I moved a few folders to Lightroom from my hard drive to an external drive using the command 'Remove' Lightroom (right click on the file name). (Maybe I should have used the exported file as a catalog rather command.) Now, these files are marked with a "?" next to them, but I still can't view the final version of the image on the back of the hard drive in the library mode. I want one of the folders back into Lightroom so I can re - treat a few photos and re-export. I am assuming that all of my previous changes will be intact. First tried to do this by using the "Add a folder" command by clicking right on the icon "+" adjacent to the list of folders. The files were imported, but not in the original file of the same name folder. I have no idea where these files were imported. Tried to do this again, but Lightroom would not allow me to select the import button, only the cancellation was an option. Then I tried to 'Find the missing folder' by right clicking on the name of the folder in the Lightroom library. I selected the folder on the disk external and "Merged" in the existing file. This resulted in duplicate efforts, but Lightroom still "file not found" so that I can modify it. I watched the Adobe tutorial on importing files from an external drive. I'm puzzled. Use Lightroom 5. Should I have "build" Smart previews initially? Would that 'saved' my changes? #1

I am assuming that all of my previous changes will be intact.

Incorrect, remove the photos from Lightroom can cause you to lose your changes. All the other stuff that you tried will not bring back your changes.

I watched the Adobe tutorial on importing files from an external drive. I'm puzzled. Use Lightroom 5. Should I have "build" Smart previews initially? Would that 'saved' my changes? #1

Import from anywhere won't bring back your changes. Smart insights will not retain your changes. Leave photos in Lightroom is the way to keep your changes.

If you ran out of space, the method for moving photos while preserving your changes and free up space on a disk, is given here: Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing

You have a recent backup of your catalog file, before all of these disorders with respect to your current difficulties, that's happened?

  • Problem with a Toshiba PX1267E 320 external drive

    Hi all

I have a problem with a Toshiba px1267e 320 external drive, when everything was ok with it I would like to move on and the blue led would come and change blue /violet as it was found on my laptop, a small vibration could be felt if I handled the case which indicates that the d/d engine was on.

After that fateful morning I turned on one explores in my computer and found no ext drive, checked the blue led disc on affected the case allowed to detect any vibration, eclipsed the reader of the case put my ear to hear low clicking.

I removed the device and connected to shopping cart, this time I could feel the engine goes, connected to the laptop, new hardware found made my computer explore and didn't find any drive, Device Manager enabled and found it so I uninstalled and reconnected the usb with the same result.
I don't know what to do next.

I had a Word with computer store if they could recover some time I wait they told at least 6 hours work, if possible (don't want to shop)
Bought me another model of the same digital Western not and new power to try to exchange the electronic circuit just in case he finds also the and/or possible fault we power/s but I'm clutching at straws here.

Anyone of you guys, here you have something like this happen? any suggestions?
I'm curious to know what they were going to try in the store to retrieve even if he said that he could not guarantee the results.
I would appreciate any helpful suggestion (not throw it in the trash)

I think that the external HARD drive is dead

  • Install Windows 8 on external drive Thunderbolt - Windows could not prepare the computer to begin the next phase of installation

    Hi all

I'm at my wit's end trying to install windows 8. Let me start at the beginning: I used to have windows running on my Mac Pro ssd internal 8.1, installed via bootcamp. It worked well for a while, and then refused to start, gives me a blue screen KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. Despite some advice from lonely T, I was unable to fix and ended up wiping the partition and relocation, again via bootcamp. Yet once again, it worked for a few months, then the same problem. I made this one last time, and it only lasted 2 days... So I gave bootcamp.

I think that the hybrid MBR partition scheme that implements bootcamp is the culprit, but I don't really have evidence to substantiate this claim. In any case, I tried to install windows in EFI mode. (If I understand correctly, the hybrid MBR is set up to allow windows to install in legacy BIOS mode, but that windows 8 may now install efi, which supports my Mac Pro mode.) My Mac is the new Mac Pro (end of 2013, trash in shape), and I can say short UEFI 2.0 (I have the latest efi update from apple installed).

    The method I'm trying:

    1. create a new partition in HFS + on my external drive using disk utility. The drive has now it's efi partition and partition empty 750Go I want to install windows a 1.25 TB storage partition that I use with my mac. It has a GPT. I formatted HFS + and no FAT, because I think that disk utility creates the same hybrid-MBR as training camp every time a FAT partition is created.

    2. use gdisk to confirm that the disc does not have a hybrid-MBR. (sudo/dev/disk1 gdisk watch MBR: protection)

3 restart my mac and hold the possibility to put in place to bring up the boot efi menu.

    4. Select the EFI_Boot DVD icon (that's the windows 8 install dvd that I have in my superdrive USB drive)

    5. go in the menus of the disk selection screen installation and delete the partition in HFS +, I created to install windows on (the format option is not available)

    6. now select "Unallocated space" on the good drive and click Next.

    The problem:

Partitioning seems to go ok (there is no feedback on this basis, but it proceeds to the next screen, and all new partitions expected are there if I check diskutil list later). He said it is "copy of windows files", but then stops with the error "Windows has no prepare the computer to start the next phase of the installation." To install Windows, restart the installation. "If I restart, I can start the same process all over again and get the same result.

    The Question:

How I get this error and get windows install?

    Extra pieces:

    • The first time it happened I assumed it was the new sip / thing "without roots" in El Capitan, causing problems, then I disabled, but I still get the same error.
    • After reviewing the diskutil list output after one of installs it without success, I found that a labeled EFI partition has been created after my storage partition (the original efi partition was still there in the upper part of the disc).
    • I have windows 8.1 installed now bootcamp on my internal ssd. It was planned to use it and winToUSB to put windows on my crush, but I found that it only works with usb2. I do not have installed could cause problems with the installation on another disk.
    • Before say you I can't run windows on an external, yes you can, and many people have. I read windows sees thunderbolt internal disks.
    • I read a few other posts on this and other sites on this problem, but could not find a pertitnant solution to my situation. I found one that suggested to remove the efi on my disk partition, but that seemed like a bad idea, so I didn't try.
    • I write this at 1 in the morning after a day spent in front of the computer trying to get this working, so please excuse typos typing or other. I am pleased to provide you with any pertinant information helping you will help me.
    • Thank you!

The other thing I tried also almost succeeded:

Although I prefer to get the method above works, because it seems the most promising, is something else, I've tried that I thought worth mentioning. If you offer advice pertaining to this method rather than the above, I would appreciate it if you could explicitly declare that at the top of your answer. Thank you.

I tried to install windows on the physical disk using vmware and virtual box. The instrutctions I followed for this can be found here: http://www.andrewsavory.com/blog/2011/2156 (the only thing different, it's because it's on an external drive, I created the Fat 32 partition manually using disk utility). The first time (using vmware) installation seems to go off without a hitch, but I couldn't get my computer to see the windows partition as bootable with the boot efi menu hold-option regular refined or with system preferences-> startup disk. I think that I was using always inadvertently a hybrid-MBR at this stage. I tried to repeat this new beginning with the first two steps above to avoid the hybrid-MBR. But now when I try to create the virtual machine based on the gross vmdk, it starts to copy the files then says not sufficient permissions and fails. I don't know if it's a permission with the disk or the hard problem. I tried chmod 777 and chown $USER of the vmdk disk (/ dev/disk1s3) does not.

Wow, that was a long post...

    1. when a second drive is detected by the Windows Setup program, he wants to create his own brand of EFI (104 MB) and not to mess with the Mac EFI (200 MB). You can force it to use the EFI to the Mac using Diskpart commands.

2 instead of HFS/FAT32, create a piece of 750 GB free space and it should only get a new MSR/MSD, without the part of EFI.

    3. on your VM method, the link you have is quite old. You have a MP 2013, with references to the 2010 Mac alumni and is a bit too archaic to be useful. http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/install-a-Windows-7-partition-on-Mac-OSX-Wit hout-optical-car-or - usb.1836959 / #post... seems to work for many and can be useful for a test. It also uses Winclone.

  • Compensation copy in the Cache of the external drive made bootable disk full - where / how to remove?

My boot drive became full on my Mac Pro (end of 2013 Quad Core, I installed 64 GB 1866 MGz DD3 RAM), OX El Capitan with 250 GB HD running - it was completely full and buzzing constantly warnings etc - then I found that I had used 192,85 GB on my user folder - I have deleted my desktop, downloads and deleted the Recycle Bin.  Properly, I did a few Google searches on how to move the users folders and files of applications on an external drive using the command sudo Ditto.

I created a new user account and tried to copy the files using Terminal Server (my files are time machine saved).  I get error messages in the Terminal it produces in series through files, noting that start-up disk is full and no space for copy cache (or something to that effect). So I've put an end to the terminal window.

I deleted an another 10 GB by removing some applications on my HD that I can re - download.

I tried the same process and got the same error messages as Terminal run the copy command and put an end to the window of the terminal again.  When I search the two accounts, clear Trash, running MacKeeper I can't find where the 10 GB of cache is stored, or how to remove them and I wonder how many GB of cache I.

Tips on how to find / erase this interrupted copy hiding in order to free up space, and second, alternative ways to move or copy a large WAD of (192,85 GB) files on an external drive without having to complete the cache on the source drive?

I have an IMac 3 - year, which was saved with a 1 to LaCie external drive, using Intego Backup Assistant.  Obviously I'm not successfully back up because I wasn't expecting this drive must be complete.  That said, how to fix the problem. ? I need to see the data that is on the disk and to eliminate duplication of work, and then I'll need to reform the backup process so that I have not fill up the drive.  I am not particularly adept at information technology, so more detail that can be provided, the better it is!

What a pity that you have not started using Apple built-in Time Machine from the beginning. It deletes older backups as needed.

That being said, the only way is to do it again. I'd get a new drive and copy what you absolutely need and wipe.
