An illegal copy of Windows XP can be upgraded to Windows 7?

First of all, some context to information.

About six months ago, I bought a Samsung netbook for the brother of my friend who lives in Thailand. The machine came with a genuine copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. In fact, I paid extra for having him on level compared to the Starter edition to Home Premium.

Unfortunately, it is a perfect beginner and despite my insistence that he executed regularly AV scan, the computer has been infected with malicious software and became unusable.

Since he had not made a backup he could restore the OS from, he took the machine to a local repair shop. Instead of tackling the problem, store deleted the installation of Win 7 (without contact with the user) and replaced by what I suspect to be an illegal copy of Windows XP Edition family. I say this because it does not display the Windows logo on startup, but rather a nice picture showing a number of ads.

As the original operating system can no longer be recovered even if the machine is still under warranty, I am looking to upgrade to Windows 7 Starter. I'm not going to waste money on Home Premium this time well that as a lesson to the user to take over maintenance of the machine in the future.

However, given that the current installation is probably an illegal copy of Windows XP, my question is, he will still qualify an upgrade?

Samsung will quite happily sell you a set of reocvery for the original operating system disks - and you should have the means of the provider to be able to upgrade the system again (it's an Express upgrade, probably) - you can call if you are unsure. There should be the key in the paperwork that accompanies the machine (if it includes also a bunch of disk)

You can borrow an external DVD drive? (or buy one - they should be available for less than $30-40).

Samsung may have recovery located on a Flash drive - ask them.

  • How can I get rid of an illegal copy of windows 7

My laptop had windows vista.  I installed windows 7, but this has proved to be an illegal copy.  How can I get rid of it and get back to vista.

Back up your data on Windows 7 (a full backup, not a backup of the image).  Do a clean installation of Windows Vista, including a full format of the drive which is provided as an option during the installation and which will get rid of Windows 7 and all the rest (however do you - with an Installation of Vista genuine, an OEM Installation disc, disc a recovery disk provided by the manufacturer or a recovery Partition if you have one).  Then, you must reinstall all of your software, to reconfigure all the settings of your, to restore the backup to reinstall all updates and service packs...  In essence, start over again as if it was a whole new machine.  If you have any of the disks or the recovery partition (or do not know how to use), contact the manufacturer for instructions and/or a set of recovery (at a modest price) disks and then use them to do the installation. Do a clean install follow these steps:http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_install_03.asp (taking into account the necessary adaptations by the procedures of the manufacturer of your computer).  These instructions will work as written if done with an installation disc full Vista genuine.

I hope this helps.  If the situation is more complex you have validated, after return and explain things in more detail and I'll try to help.

  • Accidentally updated my copy of Windows XP from SP2 to SP3. Is this legal?

original title: upgrade WIndows XP error!

I had windows xp edition SP2 family and my friend decided to upgrade using an illegal copy of windows xp service pack 3, is there anyway I can return to my legal version or be able to activate the one I have.

    Thank you

Well, it's not really illegal to install windows on windows.

in other words, let's say your computer preinstalled with windows sp2 came.

then you went to the store and bought windows sp3 and sp2 installed.

the scenario would not be illegal, but it would be a waste of money.

Therefore, if the sp3 of windows that is installed on your system has not been activated on another computer 'or' it was turned off from the other computer, which is uninstalled, then use it on another computer is not illegal.

personally, I have not seen the above scenario so my entry is somewhat limited.   but the good side of things is that if your sp3 windows is activated and can update microsoft servers, then you're ok.

on the good side of things, now you have a bootable xp sp3 cd which can be handy for repairing the operating system if necessary in the future.

in the meantime, don't make any more changes to your system or try to undo what you have now.

First, confirm or not if windows sp3 is still active on another computer or has it been uninstalled from him.

In addition, you may be able to simply replace the new product key with your first.

  • Where can I legally download a copy of Windows XP?

Trash picked up computers and purchased at a garage sale

When I was driving around one day the reusable elements in ohio (where everyone puts the reusable elements on curbside), there is a dell computer that has a valid xp home product key, but no xp cd. Then I went to a neighborhood garage sale and I found a few more computers with windows xp (home edition and I believe it is the pro version). I want to be able to download a copy of xp family of microsoft, not illegally (illegally isn't worth not, greater risk of major security to my network). Anyone know a person within microsoft who has an email I could contact about this? Or is there a download link, as lets say, you type your valid product key, and then it allows you to download the ISO image and then I could burn on cd? Or is there a Web site to link o Microsoft for this kind of problem? Thanks for all your answers

    Hello

Microsoft prohibits any help given in these Forums for you help bypass or "crack" passwords lost or forgotten.

I suggest that you reinstall the operating system for computers, back to new condition.

If no disc came with them, contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disc for them.

They charge a small fee for this.

Also, ask the manufacturer if there is a recovery Partiiton to do this reinstall.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup.

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

    See you soon.

Edit: As they are ex-entreprise, they can also be Volume License.

If they are, we can not help you at all.

I suggest that you ask the guy you how they were allowed.

I am trying to upgrade my XP to Windows 7.  I bought a licensed copy of Windows 7 with SP1 dvd but it's a udf file and I can not load.  What should I do?

  • "This copy of Windows must be enabled before you can login."

We have a laptop with Windows XP we have used for a while without problems.  All of a sudden, we get a box to activate product windows that we never had before, demanding that "this copy of Windows must be activated before you can connect."  No new software has been installed recently, so this seems very strange.  Is this a virus or is it true?

These steps will work as long as the PC has only one user profile, and to Internet Explorer 8 is installed.

    In my case, I:
    (1) the steps already listed here, with an adaptation: safe mode: command prompt
"Start in"Safe Mode".  To do this, turn on the laptop, and then press F8, as it is booting up.  Passes in 'Safe' Mode by selecting the option 'Safe Mode'. * Safe Mode command prompt *.
Once you're on the office in 'Safe Mode', click 'Start' then click on 'run '.
At the command prompt run type the following EXACTLY

    Rundll32.exe syssetup, SetupOobeBnk

    (2) restart the PC and start back in Safe Mode command prompt.
    (3) on a separate computer, download IE8 for WinXP and put it on a USB key. I renamed the file IE8install to make it easier later.
    (4) plug the USB on the problematic PC
    (5) in the command prompt installing IE8. Your USB drive letter may be different. If e: does not work, try f: etc until you find the right one.
    type e: * enter *.
    ie8install.exe * enter *.
    (6) complete the installation, restart the PC, and you should be good to go.

My Pc is no longer with us. Can I load my copy of Windows 7 (on the disc) to my new shiny? Or will it be still approved for the old PC? How can I install my Windows 7, do I have to contact MSoft?

    E

Can move you to a new Windows 7 computer

If it's a full license or upgrade retail - Yes. You can move it to another computer as long as it is installed on a single computer at a time (and if it's a Windows 7 Upgrade version the new computer must have its own qualification license XP/Vista/7). The previous installation of Windows 7 on the old computer must be formatted or deleted. You will have to perhaps call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete activation. Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer. The key works with 32 and 64 bit, but can only be installed at a time.

If it's an OEM license - don't. OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows purchased separately, are related to the first computer, they are installed on and cannot be transferred to another computer. To install Windows on another computer, you will need to buy another copy.
