antivirus quarantined files in the directory of firefox as a malware program files

These 3 files have been quarantined as viruses or Trojans heuristics:
libegl.dll
nssdbm3.dll
webapprt - stub.exe

All 3 files are in the directory program files for firefox. Once these files have been quarantined, and tried to launch FF I got error:

Could not initialize the safety component of the application. The most likely cause is problems with files in the files of your application directory. Please check that this directory has no restriction of read/write and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you leave the app and solve this problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see the incorrect application behavior when you access security features.

Once I click OK it opens FF but it won't open the home page. I want to be sure that these are in fact FF program files and not a virus trying to wreak havoc on my laptop. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I can not add troubleshooting information as I'm in THE writing of this since I can't open FF.

Hello szzqz, yes judging by the names of single file, these are the files that come with firefox and which are necessary for normal operations - so it is very likely that it is a false positive of your antivirus software. just to be sure, please download the full version of firefox for your new system from the official source to https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ and install it on top of your current installation, which will replace the missing files.

I've updated to the new firefox 8. It worked fine until that webroot ran a virus scan. It has quarantined the file ssl3.dll as a medium risk threat. Is it safe for me to UN-quarantine, or is it a malicious file?

    Hi Codgerette,

It's Greg of Webroot support in response to your message.

I checked your Support ticket, and it seems that the reason that the file has been quarantined because of a false positive alarm that has been resolved. I can assure you that the Webroot products are tested in other software packages for compatibility. Sometimes certain applications that receive incremental updates can initially marked because of the behavioral detection technique in SecureAnywhere. Unlike security software, Webroot SecureAnywhere relies on a database of clouds to check files, while once this file has been considered safe, all customers who have SecureAnywhere of installed Webroot will not have this updated file in quarantine and installation should go smoothly.

New computer that is running Windows 7. Don't install FF no problem. But the icon then disappears in the Start Menu and the taskbar.

When I go to the location of the program C:\Program Files (x 86) \Mozilla Firefox it is only the icon generic firefox.exe.

Program that seems to work very well, but it's embarrassing. Thanks for the help.

I guess you mean keep the Firefox shortcut on the taskbar and Start Menu, and it's just the icon that looks like a generic Windows icon. If so, clear the cache of your icon:

Hello arcandl, at the launch of the firefox is not after you double-click the shortcut, it is sometimes also a sign of active malware on a system.
you might want to try running a scan with some various other security like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner tools that are specialized to remove the adware and browser hijackers.

  • KB2628259 doesn't install, cannot create the directory or file. Anyone know of a solution?

KB2628259 doesn't install, cannot create the directory or file. Anyone know of a solution?

    Hi dakota25,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         You are able to install other updates successfully?

    ·         You get the error message?

    Follow these methods.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Put the computer in a clean boot state to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Note: After completing the steps in the clean boot troubleshooting, follow the section How to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state of the link to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

After the clean boot used to resolve the problem, you can follow these steps to configure Windows XP to start normally.

    (a) click Start, run.

    (b) type msconfigand click OK.

    (c) the System Configuration Utility dialog box appears.

    (d) click the general tab, click Normal startup - load all services and device drivers and then click OK.

    (e) when you are prompted, click on restart to restart the computer.

Method 3: You can also manually install updates (KB number) by downloading from the Microsoft Download Center.

  • Flash does not correctly install in the directory Plugins of Firefox 3. Help!

    Hello

I had a real bear trying to get flash works with firefox 3. For awhile, I've been runing Firefox 2 and Firefox 3 beta/RC side by side (installed in different directories, of course), but now that Firefox 3 is out, I uninstalled Firefox 2 and do a fresh install of Firefox 3. However, when I try to run the Flash Player installer, it lists the "output folder" as "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash" and does not affect the directory of the Firefox plugin - which of course means that Firefox does not know that the plugin is here.

I don't know if it's the default behavior and some files are copied but not correctly, or if the output folder is simply false, but if I manually copy the contents of the C:\windows\system32\macromed folder in the plugins directory, flash works in Firefox.

I need the installer works well. Can someone help me with this?

    Thanks in advance.

OK, I found the problem: there are incorrect permissions in the registry. The Administrator's guide led me to this page: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_19148&sliceId=2. I discovered the HKLM/Software/Macromedia registry key (as well as two key in HKLM/Software/Mozilla, Firefox and ' HKLM/Software/Mozilla Plugins') was inaccessible to the administrator; I had to take possession of the key and replace the permissions.

So the problem (get flash to install correctly) is now fixed. I guess the problem didn't rear its head with older versions of flash, because they have installed the flash plugin in the directory plugins of firefox rather than rely on the registry.

    Thanks for all your help!

  • I want to prevent access to the menu bar (file, editing, display, tools, someone) and prevent access to the restoration of firefox completely.

Basically, I set up firefox for my guest account. I've already locked download (requires password) prohibited access to modules and tools. Really, there are only a few more things I want to set up.

For example when you right-click at the top of firefox it will show 'Menu Bar' and 'bookmark' tab I want to prevent users from right-clicking and showing that the bar and ultimately using the help > troubleshooting Info > update Firefox, because they could reset Firefox and get full access to download it again.

I would also like to prevent access to the right by clicking on entirely, showing the context menu.

You must create the chrome folder and the file userChrome.css in there.

    • Create the folder chrome (lowercase) in the .default < xxxxxxxx > profile folder if the folder does not exist
    • Use a text editor like Notepad to create a userChrome.css (new) file in the folder chrome (file name is case sensitive)
    • Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the Editor window
    • Make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
    • Make sure that you select "All files" and not "text files" when you save the file via "save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css.
Otherwise, Windows can add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with one does not not userChrome.css.txt file

How will I know which is my namespace? Where can I find this information?

  • What is this file, the "old data Firefox?

After the most recent update (dudes, what happened to the usual explanation of which resulted in the update?) I noticed this file on my desk, "Old data for Firefox." Is where all my Add-ons went? My presets? And so on?

Is there a reason to keep this file, and if so what could I be able to use him?

    Thank you very much
    BAB

You recently updated Firefox? Which will cause the folder "Old Firefox data" appears on the desktop. The "old firefox data" is basically old data of Firefox, as its name suggests. You don't need, but you can use as a return to the top if you wish, although it is highly unlikely that you need or like it. Check out this thread for more details. This issue is not related to the update of firefox.

    Have a great day!

    Jon

I don't remember if this issue has much to do on what it can be used for, but basically, it can be used as a back up. The thread I posted instructions on how to view your current profile data.

  • How to close the instance of Firefox launched via file/new window without killing all instances of Firefox?

Before the last update Firefox, running on Ubuntu if it makes a difference, I was able to select close on the file menu (and if memory is also by clicking the x on the last tab) to exit an instance of Firefox open via file new window.

With the 9.x update this no longer seems to be possible. If I choose the file altogether starting an instance that was launched via the new window, all instances of Firefox away!

It's embarrassing because I have to leave all the instances that have been launched.

I tried closing last tab add on, and it allows me to close the last tab content but still leaves the instance running with a blank tab.

Is there a setting somewhere that I missed to restore the operating mode to exit the additional instances of Firefox without killing all the previous configuration?

    Thank you
    Burt

Each window must have its own close button (big X in the right corner.)
But it depends on the 'Theme' that you use in Ubuntu. This large X chould be a round point when you hover over the color changes. It could be on the left instead of the right site.
This screenshot shows the close the left side, but always an X button.

CTRL + SHIFT + W closed the window Active.
CTRL + W closes the current tab.

  • Cannot .jnlp file open when asked to open with the browser web firefox in ubuntu 11.10 using firefox 6

After the upgrade to ubuntu 11.10 the firefox browser 6 download and open from the website interactivebrokers .jnlp file. Usually, I go to the IB website and download the tws.jnlp file that opens in the browser web firefox. But now when I click on open it with the button in the Firefox browser, firefox browser opens a new tab and view the same open the window again.

Seems that, after the upgrade to 11.10, jnlp files will open with firefox instead of javaws (Java Web Start).
If you right-click on the file in the download folder and choose 'Open with', you can start web java manually.
    Bug in Ubuntu...

You can do a right click any .jnlp file and select 'Properties', go to 'Open with' tab, mark Sun Java 6 Web Start and click "set as default". Should fix. I don't know what will happen if you have java ubuntu by default instead of the Sun may be that it is not necessary.

Whenever I open Firefox, or when a website automatically opens a new window (NOT when I open a new tab or window) error message is displayed twice: ' [JavaScript error: "dir is zero" {file: 'file:///C:/Users/Steve/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/k8nfi7qa.default/extensions/%7B0538E3E3-7E9B-4d49-8831-A227C80A7AD3%7D/components/nsForecastfox.js' line: 323}] "when calling method: [ffIDiskService::get]"
Then, after closing the window of mistake twice, an AnyColor start/welcome screen appears in a second, open tab, which I then close to resume with the first tab (active). If I try to open the modules in the menu Tools, Firefox crashes and a script error message. It then becomes "unresponsive" and I have to force - close Firefox and reopen.

This looks like a problem with an add-on, especially the Forecastfox extension. To test this try to disable the add-on in safe mode, for details on how to see the extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common troubleshooting Firefox problems.
