Apple Watch 2 for swimming abilities

I used to have Garmin 735xt until he recently beat (fault of the operator), but it was great for tracking my swimming workouts. Now, I have to decide alternative (an another Garmin 735 or 920 vs Apple Watch). Apple seems to offer so much more overall, but do not know if it can support the basic of swimming exercise needs. Here are a few more specific questions:

(1) all comments I've seen show the watch during lock screen. During the exercise, I often need to capture with rests between the two intervals, etc. Sometimes need to stop time to see how I do with a common technique and restart again, etc. This will be possible with a 3rd party apps? Can watch stop support, then by restarting a timer by pressing one of two buttons, while the screen is still blocked?

(2) second question concerns data in real time: can I look about Mid-swimming watch to see how many laps I left? I read somewhere that, because the screen is locked, data from the accelerator is not transformed until the end of the workout (please excuse my lack of correct terminology); is this true or I'll be able to see the number of turns in real time?

(3) third question around the metric: will be the watch can provide SWOLF, moving over the total of the PACE, travel / time total, etc.

Again, my question is if there is a limitation inherent in the Apple Watch which would prevent any of these functions to develop. Otherwise, I have faith that there is a huge community of developers who will fill these gaps.

Thank you.

  • Can Apple Watch track a swim in an endless pool

I work in an endless pool, which is actually a treadmill for swimmers. You will stay in one place and swim your heart while it blows a current against you to keep you in place in the small pool.

I see that the watch can track laps, which is controlled by setting the distance of your pool so that he knows what is a length is, according to me. I also see that it can follow a free bath, and I guess it's GPS.

No one knows if she can count the strokes? Or does anyone have an overview if you think it would work to track the swimming event in an endless pool where 1) don't stop and turn around each 'x' distance and 2) you also do not travel any distance to what a GPS is?

    Thanks in advance...

    N °

Apple Watch uses GPS to track your progress in Open water swimming mode and titles towers during swimming in the pool swimming mode. The endless pool does not have to happen. As to count the strokes, I think it's (quite well know for that), but they do not report this information. Because they do not know to what extent you swim by race, they can use that to calculate your distance. However, I can see a future update where they have an Endless Pool mode when you enter the speed of the pool (assuming that you can set as a treadmill).

  • Concerns about the workouts with the Apple Watch - request for comments and Suggestions

I'm a professional skill that has recently upgraded from a Polar to the Apple Watch.  I am delighted to stop wearing the chest strap of the Polar, but even though I love my new watch, I wish for some improvements in the future.  Training categories are too vague.  When you set up a 'training' on my Apple Watch, which is the step class, I was ANOTHER selection to OPEN.  Others who do?  What others recommend?  And I'm trying to decide whether to use Active or Total calories during the recording of my activities in my Fitbit dashboard.  One last thing, I find it odd to be worked hard and look down to see my heart rate displayed as 60, when I know that it takes more than 130.  I would like to hear from other fitness in mind of people about my problems.  Thank you.

    Hello

When a workout is started, choose the type of activity that best fits the nature of your exercise activity. For any activity other than the named options, select the other (for example, your step class).

The types of activities in the application of the workout on Apple Watch help the watch to determine what sensors / data sources to use in follow-up and evaluate the results of your activity. For example:

-To run in the open air, the watch can use the heart rate sensor, accelerometer integrated and GPS of the iPhone paired (if it is available during the race).

-For inside running (on a treadmill), the watch will be based on the accelerometer to estimate the distance and pace (as GPS data are not relevant).

-Indoor activities, the watch will be based mainly on the frequency heart readings to estimate of burning calories.

The other category is therefore useful (from point of view of the watch) by advising that certain types of activities are not undertaken.

During the follow-up of one exercise using the others, your watch will estimate active calories based on one that is the higher of:

    -L'equivalent of a brisk walk (calories saved on this basis can vary per person, based on their personal information), or;

-The data recorded by the heart rate sensor.

When you use the other, activity app will also credit the ring of progress of exercise with one minute for every minute of the workout.

If you want Apple to consider adding specific types of additional activities for the purpose of the workout, you can suggest that here:

There is no application on my I - Phone 5 health, and I couldn't see in the App store.  Does this mean that my I-Phone 5 is not compatible with the Apple Watch?

  • How can I enter data apple fitness?  I swim and take aerobics classes.  I don't wear my Apple Watch during this operation.

How can I enter data of fitness on my Apple Watch?  I swim and take water aerobics classes and not wear my watch in the water.

    Hello

It is not currently possible to enter data of fitness on Apple Watch.

Health and fitness data Apple Watch, iPhone and any other source are rather grouped by health on your iPhone app. Combined data is reflected in the health app charts (which can be added to the dashboard), which adjust the results to avoid any double counting of data from different sources.

To add a workout that has not been registered by your watch, iPhone, or other existing data source:

-On your iPhone, in the application of health (icon: red heart on a white background), go to: data on health (tab) > Fitness > training > add a data Point > enter the result of your workout.

Activity types available when you add a workout currently including swimming, but do not include aerobics (other can be used instead).

  • Change the name of the device Apple Watch?

    The Apple community,

I have two Apple watches, one for me and one for my wife. We both use the same Apple ID and password for everything. How can I change the names of the devices Apple Watch for each of the watches? That's what I see my thing.

    Thank you

    Jose

    Hi Jose

Your best solution is to use separate Apple ID, coupled with the sharing of the family, with each person's iPhone (and other devices) connected to their own Apple ID. Some features probably otherwise not work as expected.

Create a new ID Apple for yourself or your wife:

    https://www.Apple.com/support/appleid/create-signin/

To continue to share its purchases (including purchases beyond), set up sharing of family:

    http://www.Apple.com/icloud/family-sharing/

Implement the family sharing - Apple Support

Before starting this process, which will be implemented with the new Apple ID should initially désapparier shows them:

    - Pairing your Apple Watch and Support Apple - iPhone

Once the new Apple ID has been created and is used on their iPhone, then they should associate their shows to their iPhone again (unless, of course, a new watch), this time in the title of their new Apple ID:
