  I live in China. I bought and installed Windows 7 Ultimate so that I could use English on my new Dell desktop computer. I downloaded English language pack and went through the steps to change the language. I even restarted my computer, but the language appear is still Chinese. What could I have done wrong and what I can do to solve this problem. I can't read Chinese so detailed solution is needed. I don't think I got error messages, but if I did I can't read them.   Thanks for your reply. I had problems to install the English language pack because all orders are in Chinese. I came across the right order to get installed and now everything is in English, including the operating system. This version that I bought at Best Buy in Shanghai can be for Chinese but it seems that the software of OS in actually in English.

  Because I live in China, I found it impossible to buy its full license in Microsoft software in English.

  So, my laptop was having once belonged to my grandparents and it's in Chinese, so now that I confess, I changed to English, but a few of the tiles to start (or whatever you call them) are always in Chinese for example, maps, weather, music.

  Also when I go to a website, the display is in Chinese so I have to change it in English. And when I right click on my desktop, it comes with Chinese characters too. I did everything I could and I couldn't always change the language to English.

  I have been through the Control Panel, then clock, language and region, and in language I English at the top of the list.

  This really bugs me and I hope that there is some sort of solution to this problem.

  Ideally, when you install a language pack or choose a language other than your system language, most of the functionality is displayed in the language updated the. However, there are some system settings that might still appear in the base language. In this case, we would need install the new operating system choose the language desired. From now on, I suggest you to verify that you have followed the steps exactly as detailed below to select the English language (make sure that the keyboard settings and input methods can also be programmed for the English language pack).

  a. press Windows + X key in the Windows desktop, and click on Control Panel.

  b. open the language.

  c. click Add a language and then select the language you want (example: English) and click Open.

  d. now, select a language (example: English (United States).)

  Note: Once you are done with the desired language setting, restart the computer and check.

  2. What are the features that are not available in your version of Windows 7?

  I addressed the issue on my side.

  A Studio Visual C++ Redistributable 2008 installation was the problem...

  When he tried to install the language pack from windows update I got this error in the event viewer:

  The .cab file [FilePathFromMyVCRedist] is not a valid language module. The language module is possibly corrupt. Last error: 0 x 80070002...

  I uninstall this VCRedist and this updated time window was fine I saw the status of the installation.

  And now I can pass for french!

  As far as I know after installing, it s not possible to change the language, are waiting on the Ultimate version.
  For all other versions, the language must be selected during the installation of Windows.

  Windows was delivered in German language, because you bought in Germany. You cannot change the language to English without the recovery or the original version of the Windows operating system English English CD.

  You can install the original Windows operating system but before you install the new OS you need to install the RAID driver.
