Are there fax machine capabilities in Vista Home Premium?

I am very computer illiterate.  I have Vista Home Premium and Microsoft Works on my computer.  Before you go out and buy a fax machine, I wanted to know if there is a way I can send and receive faxes with the software I have and if not, if there is something I can get so I don't not buy a separate fax.

Hello

Program Windows Fax and Scan does not come with Windows Vista Home Premium. It is only available in Windows, ultimate & enterprise business. However, you can download & install any third-party fax software & also, you should have a modem to send the fax.

Note:  Using third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be solved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

  • How can I do an update instead of a new installation if you are using Windows Anytime Upgrade from Vista Home Premium, Vista Ultimate?

I have a server at home, but one of my main computers cannot remotely access because it is running Vista Home Premium.  As a result, I bought a Pack anytime upgrade to upgrade to Vista Ultimate.
When I ran the installer, it downloaded updates to update and then opens a screen where the options are updated or install fresh.  However, the update option is grayed out and there is a message at the bottom of the screen saying that if I want I must must upgrade to a newer version of Windows.
A new facility is out of the question for me.  I'm almost 2 years of work on the machine and it is set as I want.  I have a few training licenses, I don't think I'd be able to reinstall it.  Besides, I don't want to spend days and days software and reconfigure my system.
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine, but I want to leave this machine as a Vista machine.  At I throw my money on the upgrade pack or is there someway around this problem?

Looking for a difference in numbers/Service Pack levels.

If Service Packs came pre-installed on the operating system, there is no way to uninstall them.
You will need to swap the disk to upgrade to a later version that includes the missing Service Pack.

On your installed operating system Service Pack level cannot be greater than what is on the disk to upgrade.

Click Start > right click on computer > properties > system > it will tell you which SP you have install.

  • How do I know which programs are constantly running in the background "Vista Home Premium"

I'm runnning "Vista Home Premium" on my Dell laptop. I use "SUPERAnitiSpyware &"Malwarebytes"at least once a week to get rid of all unwanted programs. What is the best way to investigate and get rid of any program still running. When I boot the hard driver light is solid for a minumtes less than 15 and sparkle even if it is inactive. I also disable all programs in statrup through msconfig. I know enough to find in "Task Manager" processes, but do not know what all processes to make or can I disable. How can I know this stuff?

I highly recommend that you do * not * try disabling all processes.  Although there may be some that you don't need, you'll save time very little by doing this, and you are much more likely to create a serious problem that in order to solve one.

Also, turning off * everything * automatic start of programs in MSCONFIG is not a good idea. Here is my standard message on the subject:

First of all, note that you should be in * all * the programs that start automatically, not only with those who are in the system tray. Not all the programs auto-start manifesting by an icon in the status bar.

On each program, you don't want to automatically start, check its Options to see if she has the choice to not start (make sure that you actually choose to not run, not simply a "don't display the icon" option). Many can easily and better be arrested like that. If this does not work, run MSCONFIG from the start. Run the line and on the Startup tab, uncheck the programs that you do not want to automatically start.

However, if I were you, I wouldn't do this just for the purpose of the minimum number of running programs. Despite what a lot of people tell you, you should be concerned, not with the way * a lot * of these programs you run, but * that *. Some of them can seriously affect the performance, but others have no effect on performance.

Don't stop all programs to run willy-nilly. What you need to do is to determine what each program is that its value is for you and what the performance cost is running all the time. You can try searching the Internet and ask questions about the details here.

Once you have this information, you can make a smart informed decision on what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.

  • Why are external USB drives not considered "Devices with removable storage" by Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium?

Readers USB Flash RAM, CD drive USB, readers of CD - RW USB, USB DVD +-RW drives and DVD-ROM USB readers are all handled by Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium as "devices with removable storage".  To check this, look under the "Computer" entry in the menu 'start '.  However, if one uses as a USB external hard drive, that one is listed under 'hard drive '.  Programs noticed this, and some of them refuse to use it as a removable media drive, even if it is technically removable media, with its electronic and all.  It's kind of weird, because you can't remove the RAM on the USB Flash memory drives either.  Is there a way to get readers to external USB hard drive listed under "devices with removable storage"?

    -Yekta

USB hard drives do not seem material RMB (removable media bit) bit set.

I tried to format my external drive scratch NTFS (it has been formatted in this way, but I have re-formatted to ensure that), and it always happens as "Local Disk".  Also, I put the "Optimize for quick removal" option on the parameters of the disk driver hard software.  Which doesn't change anything either.  It came even as "Local Disk".  Finally, I formatted the drive with the FAT32 file system (use some flash drives).  The drive still shows as "Local Disk".  In the tests described above, I still "withdrew safely" the disk first and then re-connected.

Thanks for the help, I now know it is a bit material in the electronic control unit which controls special registration of the drive in the operating system.

  • Sharing files on home network - Vista Home Premium 32 and 64

    Hello people,

I searched for hours, I made countless different steps to try to understand this point, and yet I'm still far away.
I have two computers on my home network.
-Machine 1 is Vista Home Premium 32-bit and is connected via a wired connection to my NetGear router.
-Machine 2 is Vista Home Premium 64-bit and is connected via a Wireless connection to my NetGear router.
I have a WD WorldBook connected to the Machine 1 via USB and I would like to be able to access it through my home network on Machine 2.
Here are my settings that may be useful to know.
    Machine 1:
    -Cable
    -Network: NotURInterwebs (private network)
    -Working Group: DISCOVERY
-The discovery of the network: WE
    -File sharing: WE
    -Public folder sharing: OFF
    -Printer sharing: OFF
    -Password protected sharing: WE
    -Media Sharing: OFF
    Machine 2:
    -Wireless
    -Network: NotURInterwebs (private network)
    -Working Group: DISCOVERY
-The discovery of the network: WE
    -File sharing: WE
    -Public folder sharing: OFF
    -Printer sharing: OFF
    -Password protected sharing: WE
    -Media Sharing: OFF
If I go into start-> network on the Machine 2 I see the other computer and the router, but when I click on the Machine 1 I get the following text:
    Windows cannot access \\Machine#
Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there could be a problem with your network. In an attempt to identify and solve network problems, click on diagnose.
    Error code: 0 x 80070035
The network path was not found.
However, when I go to start-> network on computer 1 and click on Machine 2, I have no problem connecting.
Does anyone have an ideas that could help me understand what is happening?
    Thank you!

    Hello

    Thanks for the detailed information.

We need additional information to help you with the problem, please answer the following.

What antivirus application do you use?

I suggest to change firewall security settings, or disable the security software on the system and try to access the location.

    Method 1:

Disable the firewall on the Machine 1 and check the status of the issue.

    Enable or disable Windows Firewall

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off

Note: You should not turn off Windows Firewall unless you have another firewall is enabled. Turning off Windows Firewall may make your computer (and your network, if you have one) more vulnerable to damage caused by worms or hackers.

Note: In addition to a firewall, you must also be an antivirus and anti-malware program to help protect your computer. Install Microsoft Security Essentials or another antivirus and anti-malware program and update it. Many of these programs update automatically.

    Method 2:
Error code 0 x 80070035 indicates that the network path was not found. This problem occurs if the NetBIOS over TCP IP is not enabled in Windows Vista. Please follow the steps below.

    (a) click on «Start», enter "NCPA. CPL"(without the quotes) and press ENTER.

    (b) right click on the connection you use for the local connection, and then click "Properties".

    (c) click on the button continue to check the permission of the administrator.

    (d) click to select 'Protocol Internet Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' and then click 'properties '.

    (e) click on the button "Advanced" in the opened window. On the "WINS" tab, select 'Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP' and then click 'OK' to save the setting.

The following article presents NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

  • Anytime Upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate; I produced ultimate ID but no touch

To this stupid problem any help would be appreciated! I bought a HP m7750n there are many moons that came with Vista Home Premium, but I needed some features on Ultimate, so I got a "anytime upgrade" disk with the PC... and there are many moons, I apparently used it and it worked to perfection. I use Vista Ultimate for several years now on this machine... Until I had a major problem with my machine flashing me the BSOD too often, decided to use the recovery disks that I created when I got to the machine and I now have Vista Home Premium to the top and running - well.

Except that part of what I was counting on aid to recover from my wave of BSOD issues was the "complete image backup" or whatever it is called Ultimate lets you create, but not other types of Vista. So I need to find a way to Home Premium to load this image PC on my machine, and/or I would like to upgrade to Home Premium provided with the ultimate machine, as I did a few years back. I keep certain documents, such as the 25 character key for Home Premium license and the figure 20 Vista Ultimate 'Product ID' but I don't know what to do with it.

I use Windows Vista Home Premium 32 - bit SP2.

Is there a way to delete the records of 'detail' of only updates of failure or cancelled in the history of Windows Update?

I just installed hotfix for Windows (KB947821).

It looks like a lot of my earlier 'failed' and 'Cancelled' updates are automatically updated and installed, and successfully, I might add.

Some dates in some records do not seem much sense. I guess I'm looking for a way to select the records, I want to get rid of.

    Hi Jeffrey,.

It's not really a taken way in charge to remove only the cancelled or failed updates. These are taken from windows logs and displayed in the history. Steps that Jose post is a way to remove all files in history and will remove all updates as well as a failed/cancelled updates successfully.
