As an administrator I am denied access to change the security settings.

I think I'm to be hacked through my ex (who is computer savvy and we are involved in a bitter custody case), all my work is done on my computer... I am the administrator and the only user on Windows Vista Home Premium settings to activate the logs and monitoring are disabled and I am denied access to edit my affidavits and/or modify the security settings. I can't afford to take service. How can I confirm these possible threats?

Hello Momz4Justice,

Allows you to ensure that your system is indeed clean, see below:

Try to start your system in safe mode:

  1. Restart your computer if it is running.
  2. Press and hold the F8 key for 3 seconds after your computer powers initially on.
  3. Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu (or beep) you can stop.
  4. Up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
  5. Select Mode safe mode with networking and press ENTER.
  6. You should see drivers loading, it may take a few moments.
  7. You should then be at the Welcome screen.
  8. Connect to your computer using an account with administrator privileges.
  9. Now, you download (free) MalwareBytes from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol install, Update then do a scan of your system in safe mode, to ensure that it is indeed clean! Once the scan done remove anything it finds. Simply restart your PC to see if your problem has been resolved!

Hope this helps you. Let us know anyway. Make it a great day!

original title: describe the security settings

Hi, I stupidly tried to change security settings on some of my documents, now I can't access then more... don't know what I've donebut would be able to open them again...

the files are stored on an external hard drive, but I always use the original laptop running xp... He is using that file names are now show green...

Thanks for any help you can give.

    Speedy

If the file names displayed in green, an indication that the files are encrypted using the Encrypting File System (EFS) in XP Pro.  The encryption key to decrypt these files is stored in your certificate store on the machine/user name that originally encrypted the files.  To access these files, you must connect to the original machine which them encrypted and access it using the same user.  If the encryption certificate is lost or damaged, then you permanently lose access to your files.  For more information, start with this article:

"Best practices for EFS file system.

As you have discovered, EFS can be dangerous.  Use it carefully and always save your article above encryption certificate.

  • Can not access the security settings

    Hello

I don't have a password on my computer since I don't don't need one. And in the past, I was able to enter the security settings and allow installation of non-apple software, leaving the field blank password and unlock the feature by pressing return.

I wonder now a password that I don't have, and if I had, I must have forgotten. I don't know what to do to get into the security settings.

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Faurie

Well - I found the answer to my own question.

It seems - so that you cannot use a password to connect to your computer, that when you want to deal with the security settings, the computer expects that you must have a password. In other words: you can not have a password.

I solved my problem by creating a password, then use it, and I was able to access the security settings and do what I had to.

    Thanks to me.

Hi Jeff, allows to taste the simple options, let us know if you have tried these or not:

1 restore the permissions of folder for C:\Users\Jeffry: right-click on the file, go to properties, advanced security:

1.1 property confirm otherwise change it your account,

1.2 list to ensure that entries includes SYSTEM administrators group and your account, all have full control and none are inherited by the top.

  • I'm unable to change the family settings on standard account even though I am the administrator

I am the administrator and want to change the settings for games/ratings on my son's standard user account, but it won't let me... Very frustrating!

He returns constantly with the message: unable to make changes to parental controls settings. If the problem persists, consult your system administrator

I have read many previous posts on this issue, but it seems that nobody has provided a solution that I can find!

    Hi TeenaWilson,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for the query display. Looks like you are not able to modify the parental control on a standard account.

    Try these steps and check:

    Method 1:

Disable UAC (User Account Control) and check the result.

See: How can I change the behavior of user account control by using the slider?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/how-do-I-change-the-behavior-of-user-account-control-by-using-the-slider

Note: You must restart your computer when you enable or disable UAC. Change levels of notification does not require that you restart your computer.

    Method 2:

    Step 1:

I suggest to create a new administrator account and log later in the new administrator account, try to set parental controls and check if it works.

    Create a user account

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/create-a-user-account

    Step 2:

If the problem persists not in the new user account, try and fix the damaged user account, follow the link below:

Difficulty of a damaged user profile

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

    Method 3:

I suggest that you can exercise SFC scan and check if TI the problem persists. To do this, please see the following article.

The SFC/SCANNOW command. analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions. For more information how to make SFC / scan, please follow the following link:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Check out the link below to check if the parental control is correctly defined

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/set-up-parental-controls

Hope this information helps. If you have any other questions feel free to respond and we will be happy to help you.

  • A user needs administrative rights on their computers to change the formats of date under the sign of the region and Lanaguage?

Customize the format of long date in DD/MM/YYYY under control panel > region and language > Formats > more settings > Date > long date is available for a user with administrator privileges, but is available for a non-administrative user?

Since posting this question, I was able to test this scenario with the help of my computer SCIENCE Department.  It seems that all our portable business have a configuration of standard domain without administrator privileges by default account.  I turned on my laptop users and was able to change the long date in DD/MM/YYYY format proving you don't need administrator privileges to change the long date format.

  • "" Cisco ASA multiple defects remote control let users deny Service and bypass the security controls ".

Recently we have heard people talk of "Cisco ASA several flaws let users deny remote Service and bypass the security controls" under the securitytracker. However, as everyone knew, ASA 8.3 need a lot more resources on ASA HW to run. I checked that the bugs associated to above problem "CSCtg69742, CSCth36592, CSCtg61810, CSCte53635, CSCte46460, CSCte20030, CSCtf29867, CSCte14901, CSCsz80777, CSCsz36816" in the Cisco Bug Toolkit. None of them show any information if there is a fix for ASA 8.2 (x).

This means that Cisco starts to stop supporting 8.2 (x) and to push customers to their "so-called" best image 8.3 version (x) as a strategy of "marketing?

Cisco is best to find a solution for this problem on 8.2 (x) rather than push customers to something Cisco "love." It may not be the best interest of the customers AT ALL. Instead of pushing customers to ASA 8.3 (x), Cisco likely to push customers to its big competitor Juniper:)

    Sean,

I did a quick search on the Bug Toolkit for CSCtg69742 and found the following result.

    Fixed in
    8.2 (3)
    8.3 (1.5)
    8.3 (2)
    8.2 (2.15)
    8.2 (2.107)

    8.3 (1,100)
    100.7 (6.1) M
    8.4 (0.99)

This was posted in the column on the left side of the search results page.

I recommend you research each ID of Bug Bug Toolkit (http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/action.do?hdnAction=searchBugs) for the version name (number) that contains the fix for this bug.

  • Username and password required to access the security settings

I have a HP5520e printer all in one. I'm putting it to scan to my computer. The instructions say I should activate Webscan from the administrator under settings and Security Options. When I try to access the settings of the administrator I wonder a user name and password. Should what username and password I enter here?

    gnomad899,

    Welcome to the HP Forum.

    Start with the standard:

    admin = admin

password = password (or leave the field blank)

This assumes, of course, you have not used EWS (built-in web server) and a password for her before - what you CAN do using the integrated Web server.  Once you do not set a password using the EWS page, whenever you want to watch some settings, set some parameters, you must enter the password that you set up.

EWS is simply the webpage to the printer interface - as if you use a web page to talk to your router software.  Same thing: sort of, except that you type in the IP of the printer on your browser instead of router, of course.

    ============================================================================

    If it won't let you

You can try to reset the printer.   Be aware that if you do this, you need to re enter all previously entered information (wireless settings, etc.).

You may be able to reset the printer on the front panel - settings > settings default (or similar).

    OR

Troubleshooting > troubleshooting > printer keeps no connection Wi-Fi

Fourth step: reset the printer and wireless router and then restart the computer

Follow these steps to reset your printer and your wireless router, and then restart your computer.
