ASA 5505 - I can't create an IPSEC VPN between two ASA 5505

Hello

I have two ASA 5505 with basic license and I'm trying to create a VPN IPSEC using the CLI. Here are the steps I did:

1 Configure ASA-1 (host name, vlan 1 and vlan 2).

2. configure a static route

3. create object network (local and remote)

4. create the access list

5. create ikev1 crypto

6. create tunnel-group

7 Configure nat

and I repeat the steps above with the ASA but another change IP.

Are to correct the above steps?

Why can I not create an IPSEC VPN between devices?.

No, you needn't. The ASA configuration is ok. Packet trace proved it. I think it can be a problem on the hosts. Please, check the firewall on the PC and try to put out of service, if it is running.

    I have this question about the Transport mode and Tunnel mode for awhile.

    Based on my understanding of 'Transport' mode is not possible because you always original "internal" private in the IP headers or IP addresses. They are always different as public IP on interfaces enabled with Crypto Card addresses. When encapsulated in the VPN tunnel, the internal IP addresses must be included or the remote VPN router won't know where to forward the packet.

    To test, I built a simple GNS3 with three routers laboratory. R1 and R3 are configured as VPN routers and the R2 must simulate Internet.

    My configs are also very basic. The R2 is routing between 1.1.1.0/24 and 2.2.2.0/24. It is defined as the gateway of R1 and R3.

    I configured transform-"null" value, while it will not encrypt the traffic.

    Then I tried the two 'transport' mode and mode "tunnel". I ping a host in the internal network of the R1 to another host in the internal network of the R3. I also tried 'telnet'. I also captured packets and carefully compared in both modes.

    Packets encapsulated in exactly the same way!

    It's just SPI + sequence No. + + padding

    I will attach my screenshots here for you guys to analyze it. I would be grateful for any explanation. I confused maybe just when it comes to the NAT...

    I guess my next step is to check if the two modes to make the difference when the GRE is used.

    Hi Difan,

    As you point out the mode of transport is not always applicable (i.e. applicable if IP source and destination is equal to corresnpoding proxy IDs).

    A typical scenario in this mode of transport is used:

    -Encryption between two hosts

    -GRE tunnels

    -L2TP over IPsec

    Even if you set "transport mode" this does not mean that it will be used. IOS routers and I blieve also ASA will perform backup even if the mode of transport is configured but does not apply in tunnel mode.

    I can take a look at your traces to sniff, but all first can you please check if you transport mode on your ipsec security associations? "See the crypto ipsec his" exit you will show the tunnel or transport mode.

  • Configure several IPSec VPN between Cisco routers

    I would like to create multiple ipsec VPN between 3 routers. Before applying it, I would like to check on the config I wrote to see if it works. It's just on RouterA configuration for virtual private networks to RouterB, and RouterC.

    As you can apply in a cyptomap by interface, I say with the roadmap, that it should be able to manage traffic for both routers. Or is there a better way to do it?

    Hi Chris,

    The two will remain active.

    The configuration you have is for several ste VPN site is not for the redundant VPN.

    The config for the redundant VPN is completely different allows so don't confuse is not with it.

    In the redundant VPN configuration both peers are defined in the same card encryption.

    Traffic that should be passed through the tunnel still depend on the access list, we call in the card encryption.

    This access-lsist is firstly cheked and as a result, the traffic is passed through the correct tunnel

    If the RIP is not absolutely necessary for you, try adding the default route to R2:

    I want to create a form like it should be a link between the Department data, i.e. data and employee while the Department is changed then only present corresponding employees in this block...

    So, you want to build master / detail between Department & sub_departments?

    In the same way, create a new, yet another link between departments & sub_departments, so that the connection is:

    Department.Department_Id = sub_departments.department_id

  • IPSec VPN between ASAs with same subnet for disaster recovery

    I need some clarification from you guys.

    To do disaster EasyVPN tunnels for the Cisco ASA 5505 firewall recovery site. Now, there is only one main site and 3 remote sites.

    Dr., must use the same subnet that it is on the main site because virtual machines Vmware will be replicated to DR.

    For the DR we use Double-Take software.

    What is the best solution for this? I think we could use NAT of Destination on ASAs. Other sites (HQ and remote control) will be directed to only address NAT of the

    DR and not real which is the same as on the main site.

    So guys, will this work? We are using IPSec VPN? In packet - trace on ASA, I see that the package is the first using a NAT, and then encrypted, so it should work, Yes?

    I hope someone can confirm this.

  • Can connect to the IPSec VPN, but can not see the internal network

    I have several users that can connect to our rooms of ussing IPSec VPN on a 5505. I have a user who can connect, but cannot see the internal network. This user is using DSL with a speedstream 4100. However, I have another user with the same configuration that can connect and see the internal network. Newspapers in ASDM show the link, but do not seem to show any errors trying to access internal. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bill.

    ASA firewall does not support the interface/GRE GRE tunnel.

    If you need to have GRE configured, you will need to complete the GRE tunnel on router IOS.

    If you want to configure just pure tunnel VPN IPSec (lan-to-lan), here is an example of configuration on the side of the ASA:

    Hello, I have a no. 2851 to HQ and 2821 2nd site. Using IPSec VPN to connect two LANs and it works very well. Now, I want to connect another local network on each site through the same VPN. I want to separate the traffic between the LANs. Is this possible?

    You cannot use another crypto card if you must use the same IP for the peers you.

    If you have other addresses ip at each end to close the tunnel, you can use another crypto card.

    If the answer is no, then you can manipulate you acl of the traffic of interest to decide which lan can reach for witch lan.

  • Traffic is failed on plain IPSec tunnel between two 892 s

    Have a weird case and you are looking for some suggestions/thougs where to dig because I have exhausted the options.

    Note: I replaced the Networkid real to a mentined below.

    Topology: a classic IPSec VPN tunnel between two 892 s of Cisco, with pre-shared key and no GRE. A 892 (branch_892) has access to the Internet using PPPoE and has three network / VLAN behind it. A VLAN is coordinated to the PPPoE internet access. Access to the other two VLAN - VL92 (100.100.200.0/24) and VL93 (100.100.100.0/24) is performed via the VPN tunnel.

    Second 892 (892_DC) has just one interface - WAN on Gigabit enabled/connected and a static route to the default GW. It doesn't have any defined interal network. If the router is strictly used to send traffic to VL92/VL93 to the domestic 892 via IPSec tunnel.

    Here's the problem: access to VL93 (100.100.100.0/24) works, however for VL92 (100.100.100.0/24) - does not work.

    Devices in VL92 I ping IP address of 892_DC through the VPN tunnel. The 892_DC router I can ping devices in VL92. However, I can't VL92 ping any device beyond the 892_DC and at the same time the packets arriving on 892_DC for VL92 are not sent through the VPN tunnel.

    I took the package trace on 892_DC using capture point/buffer to nathalie caron to VL92 packages and saw that the traffic coming to the 892_DC. I run the nathalie caron even on Branch_892, and there was not a single package.

    So... What's the problem? More interesting, I modified the way left on VL92 access list and still - no packets are sent through the tunnel.

    We have set up a site to site vpn using easy configuration vpn between ver 9.5 race (1) two ASA. The tunnels are up and ping is reached between sites. I also configured split tunnel for internet traffic under the overall strategy of the ASA easy vpn server. But for some unknown reason all the customer same internet traffic is sent to the primary site. I have configured NAT to relieve on the side of server and client-side. Please advise if no limitation so that the installation program.

  • I can weight of the IPSec Tunnels between ASAs

    Local site: link internet Baltimore 400 MB/s

    Backup site: link internet Washington 200 Mb/s

    My main site and my backup site are connected via a gigabit Ethernet circuit between the respective base site switches.  Each site has its own internet connection and my OSPF allows to switch their traffic to the backup site if the main website is down.  We are opening an office in New York with one ASA unique connected to 150 Mbps FIOS internet circuit.  We want to set up an IPSec tunnel on the main site and the backup on the remote site, but want the remote site to prefer the tunnel in Baltimore, except if it is down.

    Interesting traffic would be the same for the two tunnels

    I know that ASA cannot be a GRE endpoint.  How can I force the New York traffic through the tunnel in Baltimore as long as it works?  An IPSec tunnel can be weighted?

    It is not in itself weighting, but you can create up to 10 backup over LAN to LAN VPN IPsec peers.

    For each tunnel, the security apparatus tried to negotiate with the first peer in the list. If this peer does not respond, the security apparatus made his way to the bottom of the list until a peer responds, or there is no peer more in the list.
