Aspire M5 'Default boot device lack or failed to start.

Hello and thanks in advance for ANY help you can offer. I have an Aspire M5 that suddenly no longer starts and gives the message "Default boot device boot failure or lack" and claims recovery media to be inserted. I usb recovery media and have also signed up with cloud of Acer. With my recovery media, I tried to refresh and to my PC nothing will do. When I try a system restore is gives me an error and says "you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart, select the operating system and then select the system restore". Unfortunately there is no operating system to select when I restart. I am very worried about losing the data on my hard drive, it is more precious than the drive itself. Now I'm checking if somehow my files are backed up on Acer Cloud - is there a way to do this? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Not good.

I suspect a failure of HARD drive, the only way to check is to remove your laptop and connect it to another PC with a external HARD drive Bay.

  • Acer aspire s7-392-9439: lack of default boot device or startup failed.

    Hello
I bought an Acer aspire s7-392-9439 3 months ago. It has been working fine, until yesterday.
I turn on the computer and it poped a blue screen with the error: 'lack of default boot device or startup failed'.
This error reminded me that a message on a bios updated poped over a few days and I have the chance to install it.

I contacted acer support, I was told that the update of the bios would have avoided this problem. Also, they told me to try things that can help, but unfortunately none of them has:
1 restore the default bios settings.
    2. change the bios settings: uefi to legacy.
3 type the Windows key + c when the computer starts.

When these options do not have they said it is probably a hardware problem and I should send my computer to their repair center.
    My questions are:
    1. If they updated bios would have prevented the problem, how can it be a hardware problem?
2 - does anyone know how to solve the problem?

    I would appreciate your help,
    Michael

I had the same problem.  Tried the diskette of starting BACK and did not work.

    Here's how I solved it:

(apologies to memory are some terms is not on-site)

    1. download the Setup file of the BIOS - link provided above in this thread (isST2212.exe)

    2. on a Windows 8 machine that works - search for 'Create a recovery disk' and run on a USB drive

    3. copy the file #1 to the USB drive once it's done make a recovery disk

    4. in the Acer BIOS (press F2 during startup), change to the method of priming of the legacy

    5 save and exit

    6. turn in the BIOS and move the option USB HDD as first boot device

    7. Save and exit

    8. you will end up in a Windows 8 recovery console

    9. go to Advanced Options - find the option that leads you to the command prompt

    10. from there I went to d: drive and found my file isST2212.exe - run by typing the file name when you are in the folder

Make sure that you are connected to power - let it run.  It should install, automatic restart and you should be in business.

I had an Acer offer to fix it for free with a 7-10 day turn around and at the risk of losing all my data.  It's a much better solution!

    Hello

Please check if the HARD drive is recognized by the BIOS.
It might be possible that your HARD drive is dead for no apparent reason.
Therefore access the BIOS by pressing the F2 key while turning on the unit.
Inside the BIOS, you should see if the HARD drive whether or not written.
Also you could ensure that startup is enabled and if the UEFI BIOS is chosen.

If nothing helps, visit your dealer and ask for replacement.

->, I installed win 8.1 on my ssd (installed by me in the DVD slot)

-> I forgot to activate the mode UEFI BIOS before installing win 8.1 (executed in legacy mode)

--> the problem with the firmware update is that it resets the default bios options (here UEFI is defined)

  • I have an Acer switch 11... Showing no boot device

All of a sudden while working on my switch 11, he said that he had to stop. Now, I get the message "no boot device" when I try to start. I could put in a USB key which was a recovery disk. . It allows me to go into the Bios. When I try to choose "refresh your PC it says the drive where Windows is installed is locked." When I go into bios and select the information tab, the name of the model of SDS said nothing and there is no serial number. Does this mean that my SSD drive is fried? Is there anything I can try to get a reaction?

It is still under warranty? You can contact Mrs. They will tell you contact Acer.If it is not under warranty,.

If it's only the SSD, it is fairly simple to repair if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. I can help you with that.

  • Hi, install SSD on Acer Aspire VN7 - 591 G-70RT and setting for the primary boot device?

    Hello

I have an Acer Aspire VN7 - 591 G-70RT that came with a Western Digital blue 5400 RPM HARD drive which is limitation of my performance of laptops. I contacted Acer recently to ask for upgrades that might be made and they confirmed that I could build an SSD 256 GB and up to 16 GB of ram.

I bought an SSD now and install, but I wanted to ask how I could continue on the definition of the SSD as my main drive.

At this point, I guess I could install the SSD, then select it as primary boot device in the BIOS by pressing F2, and then install windows 10 via my USB. If this should be good to reboot or the existence of windows on my current HARD drive causes a conflict?

    Thank you

I have the device works now and here's what I did.

    WEAR AN ANTI STATIC BAND:

Step 1) remove all the screws on the underside of the laptop

Step 2) use spudger or credit GENTLY lift a gap between the keyboard and the base, then use the credit card to slide slowly into the space to jump open clips, NOT FORCE.

Step 3) (OPTIONAL) remove the keyboard connectors by moving clip and gently remove the cable from the Jack. However the HARD drive slipped in for me without necessary to detach.

Step 4) unplug original WD HDD blue reversing the clip and disconnect the cable

Step 5) close laptop together and boot with Windows 10 USB install

Step 6) install windows on new SSD (for me windows automatically activated via the BIOS/UEFI) if it doesn't happen for you, simply re-attatch the original HARD disk.

Step 7) if the activation is successful, again set HARD drive and original format. I have kept all the original ACER RECOVERY and Partitions (Healthy) in case I need to restore factory default, but formatted primary partition.

  • no boot device - aspire V5-572PG

    Hi all

im am currently woking on a aspire v5-572PG POPs with a guest of blue that says "no boot device, press a button. When I check the bios hdd0, hdd1 all say there is no hard drive but when I start my windows recovery flash player 8, I see the C: drive and all of its contents from the command prompt. I tried a few guides on the repair of the efi and bcd with no joy. I ran chkdsk c:/x/r, which has detected an error and it fixes but still the same fault. to this im point ideas, suggestions are much appreciated.

    Thank you for your time.

Yes, it should always appear in the BIOS, regardless the State of the format (assuming it has not failed).
I suggested the Recovery Console (called ASO in Win8) simply because your USB has managed to find.
What I don't understand is why the BIOS is not having reported the HARD drive. You could try reinstalling the HARD disk, just in case you have an intermittent connection.

    Hello

    Sorry to hear that.

If you see boot and boot to the EFI file manager but nothing else, the USB is not detected.

    Please, perform the above steps

s ' ensure that the 8.1 Win USB is intact and working

-Secure Boot to disable and enable the Legacy mode

-save changes and continue with the F9 mode.

If it still does not respond, please take screenshots and join them in the next post.

  • Acer aspire switch 10 no boot device

Hello, I am working on an Acer Aspire Switch 10 2 in 1 (there so no usb port and no cd drive) when I turn it on it flashes Acer logo for a second and then jump to "No boot device" with an image of a hard drive and a magnifying glass. This was not the case before. I could get for the recovery and trying, but it did not work. Now it seems that when I go in the settings of UEFI, boot order options have nothing other than IPV4 and peripheral USB for possible boot options.

On information in the BIOS, you can find any reference to the members of the SSD?

If this isn't the case, it is probably a hardware failure.

  • ACER ASPIRE E5-511-ADD DEVICE USING THE UEFI BOOT.

Hello. I bought a laptop Acer Aspire with Linux preinstalled E5-511. I want to install windows 8.1.

I created with Rufus TPG bootable USB flash with win8.1 image. UEFI mode the laptop does not recognize the USB, I have turned off secure boot, put the USB - HDD on the top of the boot priority but in vain.

In legacy BIOS mode, I can boot and install windows, but the touchpad mouse does not work, only the USB mouse functions.

How can I add UEFI boot USB flash?

    Thank you in advance.

You did right, but sometimes the USB interfaces are not recognized by the system, I had some problems with a pair of USB pen which has not worked as a boot device, but another one worked smoothly.

don't forget to have your HDD or USB pen in FAT32.
