The desktop icons are inactive with Windows 7 home
I have problems with the office, after you start everything seems ok. Wait 2-3 minutes, you are no longer able to select or what either by right-clicking on the desktop but the clock on the screen, even though the start menu and everything that it works fine, when you shut down the system, icons, I tried to click on show to be opened because the pc stops.
Hi 2confused,
Looks like you need to restore your icons. This may be attributed to a pole by a post from Rob Brown answers by I can't find the link, it's my "ups". In any case, here's how:
Here is the first thing to try...
Right-click on the desktop, select display and then "show desktop icons".
From this point, you can try to restore upward or by a system restore to an earlier point to be icons in your existing installation.
If you opt for the restoration of the system, here are the instructions:
How to do a system restore in Windows 7
http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.htmlSo that leaves us with you try to restore the icons on the existing installation. Here are a few methods:

I am creating a desktop for the mail icon
None of these options work for me. I am trying to create a desktop for the mail icon. When I right click on the mail icon, my only choice is "detach from the beginning ' or 'uninstall '. (Either by the way, I don't like the home screen - messy, confused, not how I work).

Split from another thread:
Hi David,
By design, we cannot create shortcut on the desktop for Mail App Mail App isn't a desktop program, it is designed to work in the modern user interface Interface.
For example, you can pin Google Chrome in Start Menu and taskbar. But where you open it open only in desktop mode, because it's a desktop program.
Hope this information helps. If you need more assistance or information on this question, reply to this post. I'll be happy to help you.

How can I prevent the desktop icons move arround whenever a different profile is open?
We have windows vista with 2 user profiles that are the main ones used.
How can I add/remove/move the desktop icons on my profile without moving/remove on the profile of other people?
What is the point of having 2 different profiles, so everything I do on my effects profile profile of others?
also is it possible to add/remove programs (games, downloads) without doing the same for the other profile of people?
Hi JexterMaxim,
1. what type of user accounts that you use?
2. don't you log on as an administrator?
3. don't you make changes to the agreement of the issue occur? When you install a program, you will need to select the installation option in particular only to user accounts. Not in user accounts. You can try the following steps.
Desktop shortcuts are stored in one of two places:
(a) in c:\Users\Public\Desktop. These shortcuts are shared and are visible to the user ever.
(b) in c:\Users\UserName\Desktop. These shortcuts are not shared and are visible to the user. When you right click on a shortcut, and then click general, then you can see where this particular shortcut is stored.
To make a shortcut of the group a) visible to yourself, do this method:
a. drag the shortcut to the side with the right button of the mouse.
b. Select "copy". You have now two seemingly identical shortcuts.
c. delete the original shortcut. -
All the desktop icons change set to an incompatible program.
The desktop icons all try to open with the same program, so for most fail. Restart doen't fix it. Restore to a previous point failed to 3 different restore times. Open programs from the Start button, but the link to transfer on the table, they come back to the same type of icon. At present, everything is tempting (and failing) to open it in SKYPE! Web sites and email work OK after some fiddling. Please, any help?

All the desktop icons show emblem of Mozilla
original title: change my icons
My son uses this laptop and every icon has changed to the emblem of Mozilla/Firefox. Please help me solve this problem. I can't get anywhere on this thing, because I don't know what program will open. There is so much rubbish, I can't clean it up.
My son uses this laptop and every icon has changed to the emblem of Mozilla/Firefox.
I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After you have selected the Mozilla/Firefox (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in Mozilla/Firefox as it should.
The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the Explorer will want to be opened by Mozilla/Firefox and use the icon for Mozilla/Firefox to display the shortcut no matter what shortcut was initially intended to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.
The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unASSOC for its ease of use.
You can get a copy of my SkyDrive here. I used to send people elsewhere to download a copy, but this page is more confusion with misleading ads to download this and that.
Just download and then run the utility to unassociate the. LNK files. Select. LNK in the list on the left and click on remove the associated file (user) or remove the file type , and then restart the computer.

That means the small arrow on the desktop icons?
It designates the actual icon ' points to ' (or is a shortcut to) the actual file. You can create a shortcut to a file or a folder by right click, then click on "create shortcut". If you delete the shortcut, the original file is not removed.
