ASUS P6T7 WS - SAS and SATA RAID-0 / boot

I am trying to determine the optimal configuration of HD to better use
the 2 x SAS and 6 x SATA connections on the motherboard P6T7.
I intend to fill all 12 available bays 3.5 "in the Lian Li PC-A77F and want
to control all devices SATA 12 of the Mo without the use of an expansion card.

I try to set up a new server for our SMEs and wanted to know if I could use say hard 2 SAS drives in raid 1 configuration for hyper-v (r2 2012) host then use 6-2 TB of SATA drives in pass-through mode for use with storage for 2 VMs.

    Bobc007,

The rule with the help of SAS and SATA drives is that you CAN mix the two in the same controller. You not CAN NOT mix SAS and SATA in the same virtual disks well. The configuration you are looking for is a supported configuration.

I have two options to the raid configuration:

the raid controller would be able to support two raid 1 RAID. 1 for the SAS drives and the other for the two SATA drives?   Operating system can see two disks.

He would support a raid 1 for hard 1 & 2 discs.  Then with disk HARD 3 & 4 show the HARD drive directly on the server.  OS sees thre readers.  The drive in question and two others.

I tried the dell chat, but could not get anywhere, as the helpdesk agent does not seem to know that you can google some caddy and buy the caddy to adapt to discs with no carts.

[murmur] I'm wrong :), but I think the H200 supported not RAID, so if left unconfigured, the disks will be seen by the operating system as the person/no RAID disks.  Also, if I am wrong not :), the H200 supports a maximum of 2 virtual drives, so would not work two 1-disk RAID 0 and a RAID 1 (in fact, it probably won't allow you to create a single drive RAID 0 in all). • You can mix SAS and SATA drives in a RAID 1 PowerEdge T110 II configuration

    Hello

I have a RAID 1 configuration and one of the two drives in the array has failed.  I've removed and replaced by another drive hoping the Dell Perc adapter H200 would rebuild the mirror automatically, but it does not.  In Server Admin OpenManage virtual disk displays as degraded.  The issue I think may be the replacement drive is SATA where the original was SAS.

Is there a way you can make the adapter accepts a SATA drive or is it simply not supported?

    SIV

    Hello.

Dell controllers, including the H200 are not supported mixing SAS, SATA or SSD in the same table. They may, however, each separately constitute a virtual disk on the same controller. Consider replacing the disk failing another identical or higher capacity SAS drive.

  • SyncRep between SAS and SATA pools

    Hello

I know it works as I have it configured. The performance of SAS volumes will not be affected by SATA. I know that writing is not recognized until the page is in the two pools but as the SATA table is slower than what will happen. I guess that the latency will increase?

IOPS / s wise, it could be close (partially depends on if you have 12 or 24 15 k drives in this 6100XV), but wise as the SATA drives would still slow down you the search time.

When you perform a synchronous replication (from any SAN provider) you really want the same type of raid, the same discs, same number of readers or your performance will be slower car and raid type.

  • How to upgrade readers in my H200 RAID of larger size and SATA to SAS

We are upgrading hard drives in our Dell Poweredge T110, equipped with a PERC-H200A and two in RAID 1 TB mirrored SATA drives. We run the Dell T110 of ESXi 5.1 version and a single Windows Server Essentials 2012 VM.

We want to double our capacity of hard disk and the Support of Dell sold us 2 x 342-1020 (2 TB 7.2 K NL SAS, 6 G, 3.5, CB, CK) readers.

What is the easiest way to replace the existing SATA disks in the RAID with these new disks in the same configuration and EXSi / VM / OS?

The controller manages RAID creating the new RAID and copy the data through somehow?
I add the new disks in a second DiskVolume and build a second (SAS) RAID and then somehow to clone or copy the original (SATA) RAID to the new then pass the boot device to the new (SAS) RAID?

It is a different scenario than what addresses this thread, but to answer your question: Yes, you can remove a 1 TB SAS drive and replace it with another drive SAS to rebuild.

  • best case for ASUS P6T7

I'm guessing that it might be someone here thaat haas an opinion on this case
would be ideal for an ASUS P6T7 MB, allowing the maximum of housing
number of internal SATA and provide a cooling in the i7 980 X processor.

    I have a Supermicro SC743T-650 b SATA/SAS Server chassis that I could gut
and use, but I wonder if there is something in a form more small factor that
would be as effective (with cooling by air and not enough internal LED).

In addition, a recommendation for an ideal diet would be appreciated.

  • Precision T7400 - convert from SAS to SATA

Recently purchased a 2nd hand T7400 and it really flies!

Its got by 147 GB SAS as a boot disk and reading of the RFSO and the manuals, it seems that I add a SATA drive as boot drive and everything keeping the SAS drive. However, I'd like a RAID 1 set in place with dual 500 GB or 750 GB sata double discs (because the SAS drives are not available in this config (IE 750Go) and are so expensive)

It seems not only able to do this?

I'm happy to abandon the drive SAS (selling on Ebay), so I can get this config

Looked in the BIOS and I can't disable the SAS controller, but how do I get the SATA additional ports.  I have 2 optical drives (DVD, DVD + RW reading), it means I can only use the other 2 or what?

  • Satellite L30-10 X - need sata\raid drivers for Windows XP

Need to install the drivers sata\raid for windows XP. Laptops Satellite L30-10 X. Please tell me where I can find it.

    Hello

Normally, you find that the SATA drivers in display driver package which you can download from the official website of Toshiba... Usually they are placed under the screen driver\SBDrv but I downloaded it and t SATA driver file is :(

What you can do is download the driver of another model, perhaps Satellite L300D or similar model.

An alternative you can install Windows XP compatible mode. Go into the BIOS, HDD AHCI mode to the compatible. Then, you don't need a driver.

  • Re: Need driver XP SATA/RAID for Satellite Pro U400

    Hi all

I've searched and searched, but I can't for the life of me find suitable driver to install XP on my machine. It came pre-installed with Vista which is useless to me because of the instability, bugs, just be a poor OS. I got the new laptop for a week now and have not been able to use again, so it would really appreciate someone pointing me in the direction of SATA/RAID drivers for XP.

    Thank you!
    E.g.

    Hello

The Satellite Pro U400 needs a SATA driver, and you can find it in the Intel Matrix Storage Manager package.

This storage manager can be downloaded from the European driver Toshiba page (see the series of portable different) or you can also download it from the Intel site.

The SATA driver must be installed during XP Setup process. You must press the F6 key to include a 3rd party (SATA driver) from the external USB floppy drive.

If you don t have a floppy drive, then you could create a clean XP CD with SATA driver. NLite freeware software can be useful for these jobs

My advice is; Google a bit for nLite for more details.

    Good bye
