at this moment I have Windows security essentials. but I want to change it to windows defender, how to make the switch?
No, don't do that.
Windows Defender is anti-spyware.
Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is a combination of anti-virus and anti-spyware.
MSE will disable Windows Defender because he has his own Defender. Running 2 defenders is redundant and also create conflicts.
Keep the MSE and you do not need Windows Defender.
Is there another reason you want Windows Defender instead of MSE?

I have Vista Home Premium sp2 and you want to install Windows Defender, but however Gets the 08x800106ba error message.
Where should I go from hereHello
You cannot install Defender in Vista; It is already part of the Vista operating system.
Read about Defender:
If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.
There is nothing to worry.
Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.
If you are using one of the above AntiVirus programs, this Information from David O - Support Engineer shows you how to manually enable Windows Defender (disregard information from uninstalling; not possible in Vista):
"Go to start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Look for Windows Defender.
Right click and select Properties , ensure that Startup Type is automatic.
Once modified, click apply and OK.
Quit and restart your computer. Check the back take the same path to confirm that Windows Defender has started"

And for now, change startup Vista programs without using Defender, use one of these methods:

Here's what I use and recommend: (these are all free and very effective versions.)
Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with all I have
launched on them. Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven to be very
reliable and compatible. Use MSE or Avast and Prevx, Prevx 3 but not all.Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except leaving Standard, Web, and
Operation of the network.Prevx - Home - free
Windows Firewall
Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)
Protected IE - mode
IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)
I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(It may temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom
right of IE)Two versions of Avast are available 5.x and 4.8 x
Avast - home - free - 5.x stop shields you do not use (except files, Web, network, &)
Shields of behavior) - double click on the icon in the Notification area - real time Orange - click on the
Shield that you want to stop - STOP. To stop the Orange icon to show an error indicator-
Click on the Orange icon - top right - settings - click on the status bar - uncheck shields you
disabled - click OK
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-downloadAvast 4.8 x - home - free - stop shields, you don't need except leaving Standard, Web,.
and the network running. (Double-click the blue icon - look OK. - upper left - Shields details
Finish those you don't use).
http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download#TAB4Or use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast
Prevx - home - free small, fast, exceptional protection CLOUD, working with other security
programs. It is a single scanner, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something come back here
or use Google to see how to remove.
http://www.prevx.com/ <-->-->
http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp <-->-->PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.aspAlso get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever think malware and that
would be unusual with Avast and occasional Prevx running with the exception of a low level cookie
(not much), to UPDATE and then run it as a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they
never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.I hope this helps.

I bought a new hard drive. I don't have a system recovery disk. Can I load Windows Vista from another source and activate using my original product key?
Hello
There is no download available from Microsoft Vista.
Contact the manufacturer of your laptop and ask them to send a set of recovery disks.
They should do this for a small fee.
"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246
Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.
If this happens, you may need to try this instead:
You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key determines which Edition is installed.
Builders recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.
And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs
See you soon.
p.s. If the old hard drive is still installed and running before you change on hard drives and you never received the to purchase recovery discs, you can make the recovery discs from the recovery Partition which should be on the old hard drive. You will need to request that the manufacturer how to do as each computer manufacturer has their own way of making records of this partition recovery.
It depends on the old hard drive still works.

No, he's not slow down your computer. Maybe he's still there, but it
is not running. AVG, it turns off because it is duplicate that AVG made.and personally I don't like Vista... and just discovered another reason why? So, since I'm NOT under the "Vista" operating system anymore and am running Windows 7, I would like to program Windows Defender removed.
With two versions of Windows, AVG will shut down Defender and the only
advantage of the deletion, it would be to save a small Mount of disk space.
And as a part of Windows, you cannot delete it.Ken Blake (MS-MVP)

I have a key for download. I just want to get the load down, so I can move to windows 7 Basic windows Pro 7 I just paid for. I can't believe that it should be this difficult.
Why couldn't there was a link on the confirmation e-mail to download the program.
You can use the product key and the Basic Express in Windows 7 Home Edition upgrade upgrade to Windows 7 Professional.
If the license for Windows 7 Professional, you have access to is a retail version update or complete, you can use the product key and the Express upgrade from Windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 7 Professional. First of all, check that the edition of Windows 7, you are upgrading is already enabled (if it isn't, you will encounter complications and that you might start all by performing a clean installation). Click Start, type Anytime Upgrade, click on the option enter a key, enter the key of Windows 7 Professional on demand, click Next, wait while checking the key, accept the license agreement, click on upgrade, wait while the software upgrades, (it may take 10 minutes or more depending on the if updates are required) your computer restarts automatically, after the reboot, Windows 7 will notify you updating the computer, the computer will restart once more automatically and will be completed the upgrade, a window will appear notifying the upgrade was successful and your computer is ready to use, click Close, you should be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional your files, programs and settings retained.

How can I use Windows Defender to scan an individual file in Windows 7?
How can I use Windows Defender to scan an individual file in Windows 7?
To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible.
A cheap substitute, albeit rather inconvenient, is to use a personalized analysis on the folder containing the file of interest. Go to Windows Defender-> custom scan and then select the folder in the pop up dialog box.

How can I reinstall Windows Defender on my laptop HP Vista 64-bit?
Bots and a kind of virus/hacker got in and everything moving & ripped off many drivers needed for important security programs such as defender and Trend Micro Titanium, Ran Malwarebytes and Spy - bot Search & Destroy, but nothing came. Responsible for Microsoft Security Essentials and who is working for a little time, and then when the computer restarts after updates through Windows Update, Security Essentials is disabled, just as the Defender is always, it seems! When I try to start it (Yes, as an administrator!) until you get the error code: 0x800106ba and display hangs. I try to save almost 4 000 photos stored on my laptop and transfer them to a new external hard drive, a few buddies very attentive gal of my friends bought for me (I'm home with AIDS and the very limited income, so it really sucks if I can't get my main source of social interaction, news) creative and well stuff even more upward and running the way it should have been when I bought 2 years ago!).
I digress from the subject, sorry. In any case, I downloaded the Defender, called Windows Installer: Defenderx64.msi Windows and when I run I get another error message that says that the Defender is already loaded and to reload I must uninstall Defender. and when I try to it says I can't because he shook in Vista, somehow and not repairable. Please advise! JSBHIO

Hello
You will need to uninstall Norton... You'd better go to their website for their removal tool. Simply uninstalling was reported to leave artifacts that still block Windows Defender.
In fact, Norton can offer better protection, but of how much better, you could try a search for comments and/or a comparison... Norton will probably slow down your machine more than the Defender, but I have not tried lately to say how much.
Most likely the Office 365 is a trial provided by the manufacturer of the computer for which you will have to pay for eventually... just a guess but.
