ATAPI DVD A DH16AYH ATA Device read DVD but not CD

Engraver of CD/DVD in Compaq Presario 5010NX w / VistaBasic read any DVD but has problems with CD if I insert a music CD, sometimes it will open right and I can play music. Most of the time he just tells me to "insert a disc", usually open the status bar, but not always. If I close the drawer [or eject and close the tray] from 3 to 15 times, he finally opens the CD. Generally. Sometimes I drop and open it on my old computer Millennium, [which never fails to open the CD].  I bought a cleaning disc, but it still happens. Also, it stopped opening the tray with the manual key (1,200 works tent) and will always open with 'Eject' of the computer, but only with DVD and sometimes will open with the "eject" computer with the CD never if it is empty, so I always keep a known disc "opener" in the status bar. (if I forgot, I use a paper clip)

I did an online search of the Device Manager for a driver update and he told me that the best software is already installed. I just need a new burner? Why is - that it will work with DVD CD not? driving me crazy. Thank you ps can not find a burner mfgr. says simply "drive SuperMulti DVD with Lightscribe" - pps I tried uninstalling the Device Manager, and then restart the computer - no change.  Haven't tried the support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems diagnostic program no solution I came across a post from someone else who had the same problem [former position & 'uninstall & reboot' was the only suggestion on this one.]   I can't believe that it could be physical burner... why he wouldn't hesitate to read the DVD if it was a physical problem?  Help?

Hello

Check with Compaq Support, their drivers and documentation online and apply to the

Readers to use and this intermittent problem can be caused by wear.

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)
Playback of CD and DVD). So it is not unusual for parts from 1 or 2 to not work so that others do
correctly.

Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner might help.

Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always problematic.

CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the edge outside these discs
tolerances. They may be delivered, but it is generally more economical to replace the disk.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total

Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward

I use a laptop Gateway M - 151 X with an Optiarc DVD RW AD - 7640 A ATA device. The player is no longer plays DVDs, although it does not read CD. I have read through similar problems on this site and tried to follow the advice given there. So far I have uninstalled the driver (and reinstalled by rebooting) and removed the UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the registry. I also ran this Mr Fixit: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems, who told me that the problem was fixed when I ran with a CD, but he told me that the disc is unreadable when I ran fixit with a DVD. Other suggestions (for example in the selected answer here: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistahardware/thread/f388ca10-ba0b-4aa6-8f0d-be24034ada3b) do not seem to apply. Is there anything else I can do in addition to open up the computer and check the cables? I don't know what to look for and won't cause other problems.

I don't know if this is related, but I also ran this Mr Fixit: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/hardware_device_problems, who told me he had a problem with the card Microsoft 6to4 driver, which he is then fixed by put it back automatically.

Get a DVD cleaning disc and use it to wipe the drive.  Your drive uses different leaders internally to read CD and DVD so if one works and the other does not, a dirty car may be the cause.

  • My CD/DVD drive reads CD but not DVD

    Hi all

I have a TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633M DVD player in my laptop and after about 6 months of use, the drive stopped reading/writing DVD. It still reads CDs fine and sometimes will read a DVD completely (without provocation and without warning...!) but is very skittish and stops randomly just to play a DVD. Often, the player will eject and give an error message tells me to insert a disc. I don't know what to do.

I am running Windows Vista 32-bit. I tried to run the Microsoft Fixit application, which recognizes that the drive is unable to read DVD but offers nothing more useful than and doesn't solve anything (despite its name...). I've read through a number of different forums and have found a range of advice: replace the disk, uninstall and reinstall the drivers or editing the registry. What should I do to solve this problem? Naturally, I would prefer not to have to replace the drive itself, but if it's the only way...

    Thanks in advance!

    Mangi

The registry thing only works if the drive is completely AWOL from the system so that it does not appear as a drive in "My Computer"... not your problem. The DVD and CD using different lasers and it is not uncommon to go wrong and the other not. You can check the operation of the DVD trying to boot from a bootable DVD. If you can not drive is bad and needs to be replaced. If it works sometimes and not others it could just need a good cleaning with a DVD lens cleaner.

If the previous suggestions don't fix the issue, then I suggest that you install the updated drivers for the DVD player by visiting the site of manufacture of the disk and check if that helps.
