  What do you mean by "archived" contacts?  If they are not contacts that are currently available to you, then there is no way that your PC could be sending mail to them.

  iTunes account and Apple ID are basically the same thing, just different ways of referring to an account - change the primary e-mail address on an account will change what the account is used in the world.

  This article is quite old: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191946 but if you search for *.wab which will give you the address book, and it is probably corrupted.  You can click on it and check whether it is open or not.  If not, then look for * ~ * and who will be the backup of the address book.  Try to rename to give it a file extension wab and if it opens when you click it, and then replace the bad with it.  Otherwise, remove the old one and see if that fixes it.  You might be best by clicking file | Identities and setting a new identity and then see if it works fine.  If Yes, then you can import the old identity.
