audio service is not running
I use a HP Pavilion dv4 laptop, product #WA683UA #ABA. There is a red X next to the "speaker" icon. When I move my mouse over the "speaker" icon, I saw the following message, "the audio service does not work." How to fix this?
Hello
Hold down the Windows key and press R. In the run box, type services.msc and press ENTER,
Verify that the following services are all showing that status = started and the Startup Type = Automatic
Audio service
Multimedia class Scheduler
Windows Audio
Windows Audio endpoint Builder
If you need to make a change to one of the above, just right-click the service and select Properties, and then in the drop-down list box next to "Startup Type", select automatic and click on apply to save the changes. Then click on the Start button.
Kind regards

Hello
Try the following.
Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.
http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp55001-55500/sp55026.exe
One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers. Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.
When you are finished, download and reinstall the Chipset driver at the following link.
Once this done, shut down the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and then remove the battery. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds. Reinsert the battery and plug in the AC adapter.
Robinet tap away at the key esc that you start the computer to launch the Start Menu, and then select f10 to open the bios menu. Press f5 to load the default values (sometimes it's f9, but the menu below indicates the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press ENTER. Press f10 to save the setting and still use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press on enter.
Allow Windows to fully - charge it will automatically load an audio driver, but let just this complete. Then open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation. Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices. 'Speakers and headphones' left click once to highlight, and then click the Set Default button - check if you now audio.

I'm a bit of a technophobe, but I'll try to explain my problem, I got better. I recently had a problem with Windows 8 and refreshed my system. After refreshing, I installed AVG Anti-virus and that's where my problems really started. After installing AVG I have no sound and my control panel usually pop up. The box is displayed but there is nothing in it and it sorts just of sticks, frozen. I tried the fixes recommended to fix my sound. The speaker in my taskbar icon has a red x on it and when I try to open it it goes right to the problem-solving mode, then comes up with "one or more of the audio service is not running. When I try "run services.msc' and try to start Windows Audio through Services I get error 0x800706cc. I tried to uninstall AVG and reboot, but it did make a difference. Please help, this leads me to the madness now. Nothing I try seems to work!
Installation of AVG is when the problems started, I would start by undoing that. Since the normal uninstall did not help, use system restore to return to a work situation. Check here and use the #1 option.

Hello! I recently solved this problem on my pc. AVG detected malware in the last patch of Win8.
However, it is not a malware and relates to your audio services.
Start AVG, click history, and then click quarantine.
Click on the item with the EXACT time that you started windows was last updated, NOT get back anything else. Worked for me.

Help - Audio Service is NOT running - Windows Vista
Hello
I checked several websites & forums solution to my problem before asking the question here. A week Audio feedback from my computer started to give me problems. At first the audio suddenly stops during normal operation & would not return unless I restart my system. Then I tried to reinstall my audio driver & has managed to do this. But now, I see an 'X' mark next to the sound icon in my bar of tasks & says 'Service Audio does not work' here is the penalty shot I made:
--> Administrative Tools Panel--> Services
Plug & Play is WE & auto
Multimedia is ON & Auto
Windows Audio Endpoint Builder is stopped
Windows audio is stopped.
I tried to start Windows audio endpoint builder & the following error msg appears:
"windows didn't start the generator service of audio endpoint of windows on the local computer.
"Error 0 x 80070002: the system cannot find the file specified."
Under path to the executable, I have seen that it is looking for a file named svchost.exe.
File seems to be present at the location even if nothing seems to happen when I try double clicking on it.
Please help solve this problem. Because I bought a HP laptop with Windows Vista, they don't give me a Vista DVD separate to try & reinstall everything again.

Yesterday, I downloaded and installed updated Creative to my its Soundblaster card from Windows Update. It lead me to a large download of Creative for its console related sound and SW, and things worked fine. When I restarted this morning, there was a horrible loud hum while Windows was loading, and I made a hard stop. When I rebooted, the buzz was gone, but the icon in the status bar indicates that the sound was off. The sound message indicates that the audio service is not running. I tried to restart the computer several times, but the results were the same. I tried to restart the audio service of the Task Manager, but got an error message 0 x 80070002, the system cannot find the file specified. Where should I go from here?
Hi Jfklinger,
This problem occurs because some legacy applications use files or components that were developed prior to Windows Vista. The names of these audio components may be different in Windows Vista. If the calling application uses the hard-coded file names, the new files and components could not be found.
To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods to change the audio settings for a device.
Method 1: use the order Volume of Windows
To use the Volume of Windows command to change the audio settings for a device, follow these steps:
1.right - click on the speaker icon in the notification area, and then click devices recording or reading.
2. double-click - click the device for which you want to set the parameters. For example, double-click on Microphone.
3. click on the levels tab.
4. move the cursor upwards or downwards to set the desired volume level, and then click OK.Method 2: use Control Panel
For control panel allows you to change the audio settings for a device, follow these steps:
1. click on Start, click Control Panel, click hardware and soundand then click sound.
2. click on the tab playback or recording .
3. double click the device for which you want to set the parameters. For example, double-click on Microphone.
4. click on the levels tab.
5. move the cursor upwards or downwards to set the desired volume level, and then click OK.You may receive an error message when you run an application that uses the recording feature or audio playback in Windows Vista

Recently, I restarted my laptop and after restarting, I couldn't play any music media player, iTunes or xbox music. After hovering over the icon of the sound, he says that the Windows Audio service is not running. After troubleshooting the windows troubleshooting options seemed empty and not answered. It is the same for the control panel when I tried to open it manually. Someone please help this situation is disturbing. I use a Lenovo IdeaPad touch P500 running windows 8.1. If it helps, this is happening after the recent update to annex one or two days ago.
AVG is installed?
If AVG has therefore been reported recently, ask questions as in the next thread that has any suggestions to remedy the situation:

No idea how this can be fixed please?

Hi Tom,
Try the following.
Download the Realtek Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.
http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp66001-66500/sp66107.exe
When finished, press and hold the Windows key and press R. In the run window, type devmgmt.msc and press ENTER.
Expand sound, video and game controllers. Right click on the Realtek device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.
When you are finished, download and reinstall the Chipset driver at the following link.
http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp66001-66500/sp66094.exe
After reinstalling, shut down the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and then remove the battery. Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds. Reinsert the battery and plug in the AC adapter.
Robinet tap away at the key esc that you start the computer to launch the Start Menu, and then select f10 to open the bios menu. Press f9 to load the default values (sometimes it is f5, but the menu below indicates the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press ENTER. Press f10 to save the setting and still use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press on enter.
Let Windows load completely - it can automatically load an audio driver, but let just this complete. Then open your download folder, right-click on the installation of Realtek Audio program and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation. Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices. Left click 'Speakers and headphones' (or speakers/HP) once to highlight and then click on the button set as default (it will be gray if already defined)-check if you now audio.
If you have still no audio, hold down the Windows key and press R. Type services.msc and press ENTER. Search for audio Windows servive, right-click and select Properties. If the service does not work, try to run.
If you still receive the "Windows could not start the service windows audio on local computer» Error OX800706cc - the endpoint is double ' mistake, you're best bet is to do a Refresh as detailed on the link below.
