Audio Windows Media Player 11 only playing on two speakers (out of five) of the Home Theater System

Hello

I have connected my PC to my Panasonic Home Theater System.  The system has five speakers, but when I play something from my PC (DVD, Windows Media Player, Internet Radio, etc.) audio can be heard on two of five speakers.

My installation is:
Windows XP SP 2
Cable connecting back plug (3.5 mm) audio from the PC to the RCA (red and white) sockets on the back of the Panasonic System.
Map its RealTek AC97.

I tried changing various settings on the PC (for example "a 5.1 surround sound" and "a 7.1 surround sound" for the sound card speaker settings) without a bit of luck.

Thanks for advice you may have.

Finally got it work. Solution has a setting on my home theater system.  For the entry that I used to, were to select "great surround" mode music. Now its running through the speakers.

  • Windows Media Player will only play a sound with no video .avi and .mov

I started having a problem where the Windows Media Player will only play the audio portion of my .avi and .mov video files.

These files were created by my FlipCam or my Sony Handycam.

I never had problems until recently and think that it is due to some kind of Windows Update.

Both my computer and my wife's computer had the same problem and we are both using Windows XP Home Edition.

I apologize if this topic already on this forum.

Thanks for any help and advice.

    CoDec = compressor decompressor.
A program is used to compress the file. You then need to unpack the file to play, you need the codec used to compress the file to decompress it on your pc.
You need DVD playing software installed to power the mpeg codec, or you can buy a codec to just run in media player.
AVI is a wrapper and may well contain more than 800 different file types, it has 800 different codecs!  Thus, to read an avi file, you should know what codec was used to do and have that installed on your pc to read.
DV.avi is made with the dv codec, divx.avi is made with the divx codec.
Of course, that manufacturers make their codecs, you must make sure you have the latest being, to be able to read files made with it, so everything just because you downloaded the codec divx 12 months ago does not mean it will play files created with codecs of today!

I hope this explains it is ok for you.

It surprises me that you say that you have downloaded all the updates of altest, but are still running wmp9, where we are now on WMP11 for XP and 12 for win7.

I would update my WMP version first.

Here is a page that will tell you that the codecs are on your pc and who has access to WMP 11.
    http://www.myvideoproblems.com/tutorials/HowToFindCodecs.html

Here is a page that will tell you how to know what codec was used to create the file that you are trying to watch and also if you have the right codec for it
    http://www.myvideoproblems.com/tutorials/AVIcodec.html

It is generally accepted that the codec packs adding is a bad idea, so if you need a codec to read a certain file, google it's manufacturer and just install the one you need.

I would work just on the pc at the same time when you found what the problem is, you can fix on the other 2.

Need more help with this, just ask.

  • My windows media player will not play a DVD

My windows media player will not play a DVD: Microsoft Windows 95 Version 5.1 (Build 2600.XP_SP3_gdr.111025 - 1629:Service Pack 3).  Download a free version of media player to play the DVD?  Please tell me the name of the upgrade and where to find the free download version, if so.  Thank you!

First thing that you do not run windows 95 if your build number is 2600.XP_SP3 it is a build number of windows XP.  Second, you will not be able to play DVDs using this version of windows and media player only.  The reason for this is DVD is a standard that a group of companies shut down and basically, they demand rights fees to use, it codec, which you don't have. You will need get a program that has integrated these codec (or find them somewhere).  Your best option for this is to completely abandon the but of the using Media player to play your DVD (unless you are looking to buy another piece of software).  There is a free option that I use on my machine Windows 7 Basic its called VLC is a free player that makes just about every format out there (not sure Bluray).  VLC uses its own codec (I think it's developed for the linux community orginially) rather than using the codec of the industry.  You can find the program at http://www.videolan.org/

  • Windows Media Player will not play files .avi or .mpg - Error Message: C00D1199

Windows Media Player won't play .avi or .mpg files; files which I know to be readable by Windows Media Player. In addition, this program has played these accurate files in the month of August. The files are readable on other programs. I searched other forums, but it is impossible to find an answer to this problem, except the recommendation of a codec - although I don't know how I have "lost" the codec in the past two months. Today, spontaneously and erratically, Windows Media Player recognizes the .mpg files, but not the .avi. Microsoft Security Essentials have installed and up to date, if it is not a virus. Have problems in other programs with the recognition of previously readable files. Not sure if it's related, so I'll post in separate... forums but I'll give you a link if you want to. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Windows Media Player sound only during video playback

Windows Media Player won't PLAY VIDEO (MOVIES); ONLY SOUND CAN BE HEARD.

Can someone please?  I go crazy - my windows media player will not play anything except the sound on videos (films are so far the problem).  She claims codecs are updated automatically, I'm too scared to download some unknown codec. I tried everything I know to do and I'm not too bad to understand such things.  I am now at a loss.  What is the problem here? BTW-Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Toshiba laptop.  I think that Media Player 11.

Volunteer J ~ THANK YOU very MUCH FOR THE REPLY! I WILL RESPECT ALL THE SOLUTIONS YOU HAVE TO OFFER!  From what I can tell, they are my videos (movies) transferred from the cd to the media player.  Videos of "sample" provided pre work ok.  My films all have the extension .avi at the end, that's why I don't understand why they will play only the sound of the film, not the actual Visual part. . AVI should be accompanied by my windows media player.  As I said, I'm pretty decent to deal with such things as a result of working with a lot of "technicians" in recent years; This is why I do not bother anyone here, but I am at a loss for what to do. If it's codecs, I don't want to take the risk to download a bad codec and corrupting my system.  Already checked the updates of Media player, there are not available at this time.  She has also set to automatically download codecs.  Man, it drives me crazy!  ConfusedOne70 aka Michelle

  • Windows Media Player does not play the full song - Y470

Hello, I am having some problems with Windows Media Player, and I don't know how to fix it. The behavior that I meet is that WIMP would begin to play a song (from the library or a CD) and after playing a few seconds of the second OMP would jump to the next song. There is no consistency on the number of seconds that play before WIMP past to the next song. I can't find any option in the menu options that would cause this to happen.

This started happening when I opened first WIMP. It's really strange. No idea what might happen? I would use another player, but I don't want to go through the hassle than other players (though very good) to provide compatibility with the synchronization with the mobile devices, playlists, etc... So I am forced to use WIMP. I need this problem well.

It seems to happen with all players and all my music files. I can play the music files on my desk very well.

    Thank you
