Automatic update problems.

Hi people. Something fishy seems to happen with my computer. I seem to have a mystery on my hard drive partition. You see, my hard drive must have ONLY ONE PARTITION, C drive. And that's what shows. However, during boot on the Windows XP installation disk, I discovered a second 31 MB partition which does not appear in my computer. Automatic update also fails to deliver the most recent Microsoft Updates for me and same Windows SteadyState does not install any update, even though it says it's. Several months ago this computer had a bot and 37 Trojans, viruses and spyware. I reinstalled to get rid of the bot. tell me, is what is happening here normal, or should I worry? Is it possible that the bot is always on this partition of mystery? Thank you.

I have no idea what that means "Custom Windows update IE" and you still have not answered my question #4.

But don't worry about this now. Your other thread tells me everything I need to know: your computer still infected or is it again be infected (horse of Trojan W32/FakeAlert - variant & friends).

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

HOW to do a clean install of Windows XP: see method 1 and http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html#steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978307

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or a local network (i.e. other computers) and before using a USB or SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formattedotherwise:

NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the appropriate removal tool before installing updates, Service Packs Windows or IE upgrades and before installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 must be installed).

    Hello
To be honest I m not very well why the autopilot GPU update could not complete successfully, but I guess that the update is not out for the AMD Radeon HD7610M, which is built into the laptop.

I also read a discussion on this issue in the Microsoft forum, and it seems that there are other people having exactly the same problem with this update.

  • Satellite Pro C50-A-154 - battery after automatic update problems

    Hello world!

First of all, I must apologize for my bad English, if it is not as good as be... after that, I could start to tell you all what happened to me in the last few weeks...

I have an a C50-A-154 Toshiba Satellite Pro and I use it for stuff like watching youtube videos, listening to music, and do this kind of thing than a normal user.

A few weeks ago a Toshiba Tempro Alert remember that there are software updates avaliables to download for my laptop, so I installed them, I normally unplug my battery when I have the power cord plugged in, so I didn't realize after a week after that my battery was not recognized as it should be for my toshiba.

Initially, windows said that it is fully charged and no need to continue to load, so I unplugged the power cord and the laptop shutted down (with battery connected and therefore be charged to 100%).

When I plugged it again the power supply cable, windows said that the battery was empty and told them, hip but not load...

At the same time, a new toshiba update was released, this time was for the bios, if I have that it is probabbly fix the problem with the battery, so I updated the BIOS and windows says that the battery was full charged... I couldn't believe...!

But the system always goes down when yo unplugg the AC cord, and now battery said once again that it is empty...

Yesterday was a new update for the Bios, so I give another chance, but nothing has changed... I can't use the battery, and I have no warranty, so I don't know what to do...

I read a lot of posts on battery of problems lately, in the forums of europe and US forums... maybe it's a software problem? Maybe toshiba boys don't have any idea about this problem?

    Thanks for your replies!

    Hello

I think it might be a software related issue.
In Device Manager, you will find the battery input compatible Micorsoft ACPI method. It belongs to the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface.

I recommend you to uninstall the three topics that you might find in the battery area.

Reboot the laptop. After restarting again, the system should install all devices removed once more.
Usually, this should help to unravel the question in the case of its just system problem

  • The service "wuauserv" (automatic updates) does not work correctly

The service 'wuauserv' uses constantly between 88 and 95% of my CPU, slowing down my computer to the point that it is almost unusable, so I've been suspending or disabling the process 'wuauserv' every time I use my computer.

In addition, Windows Update does not, if "wuauserv" is suspended or not.
It prevents just check the latest updates and never stops to do that no matter how long wait.

Well, I managed to solve the problem.

I followed the instructions on this page: http://workingscripts.blogspot.com/2008/05/windows-update-high-cpu-usage-fix.html

Immediately after that, Windows Update and the automatic updates service finally started working again. It has been almost two weeks since I fixed it and have not had a problem since.

I didn't format the hard drive and do a clean install of Windows XP for this problem - I have never done this because it does not seem necessary.

And I do not see how this relatively recent automatic updates problem never touched my other problem Installation of Internet Explorer years discussed in my other thread.

  • No automatic updates with the new motherboard. The adjusted settings as advised by your article, restarted the computer - nothing. Downloaded new copy, same problem.

I get a notification that there is a new update for Firefox and click on it, but the computer is unable to connect to the server and download (if not internet connection works perfectly). I downloaded a new copy and the problem was not solved. I went to your site and set the parameters as indicated by your article, restarted the computer and it is still impossible to have an automatic update as before. (Before the change of the motherboard on the computer of authorized service everything worked fine).

Try to remove FF from your pc and then it re-download the new version.

  • automatic updates has encountered a problem and needs to close.

last week after a failed installation of avg 9 (incomplete) the computer has worked well. two days after that it gave me an error that Windows could not start due to a "hard or software change. as well as some speak of him cut for unknown reasons (which means that I hit the off button) because safe mode would not even run (I'd get a list of processes to the bottom of the list and they would arrest) we had to get the computer fixed.

She came back and I turn it on and this alert appears that the "automatic updates" contains an error and must close. When I hit send, it returns minutes later. If I hit send, is the same thing.

By various people, I thought it is very bad

When there was the problem of norton (would not go beyond the home screen where you can choose users) and he is home, I do not have this new error.

If you're very lucky, what follows will focus on your problems. If not, you have to find a better 'computer man,' who knows what he did (not the Geek Squad or others), or pay for a new computer.

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. double-click on the file that you saved in #1 above to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    4. use the FixIt (aggressive mode) on this page to reset the Windows Update components: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

    5 download/install Microsoft Security Essentials (application free anti-virus & AntiSpyware) & reboot: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx

Note: Install Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) instead of AVG, at least for now, please. MSE updates through Windows Update, so it's going to be a very good way to see if the Windows Update/automatic updates works now.

  • Automatic Vista update problem

I've been running under automatic update since the purchase of this machine, and everything that was in the update of this early afternoon undermined my machine!  While surfing with IE and FireFox, pages would freeze or fail (hard to do your online banking, when that happens).  Hit a shortcut would launch a fresh copy of the browser.  I have tried a reboot and something had made wrong my user and password admin (that I was able to reset), but restarting seems to be in an infinite loop.  Diagnosis of the initial splash screen was fine.  I had to restore to point store yesterday, and now it is running properly again.  Is it possible to determine what was in this particular update, and I have to any security option other disable that automatic updates?

    Hi carol_okc,

Please use the forum for Support of Vista,

In the Windows Update window, you can click view update history.  This will tell you what has been updates install and if they have success or not.  Also change the setting option to download, but let me choose whether to install them, this will allow you to install the update one by one to see what update was the cause of the problem.
If you figure out that you cause problem, which offer up-to-date, right-click and select Hide update to remove the update from the list.
