  I've never had a problem with Windows Update, where I have always chosen the option automatically ID and upload the changes of the reviews, but let me decide when to install... until a few days ago, apparently with a new version of WU.  Alert security shield showed red x and retail Security Center showed the firewall and OFF as automatic updates, although I've always had IT firewall and my option of automatic updates, as I said no problem with this selection.

  Last question: If no some help here, I should then try either uninstall those last updated above and then try WU or try a restore of the system from an earlier date first?

  Thanks for your reply... and diagnostic issues included that you obviously put in a lot of thought to come up with. But not that meeting them shortly after the display of my note here I found another way of MS for free (normally paid) tech support online where, (contrary to your comment) obviously all a liaison person problem WU IS allowed to choose a list of several techs for free. available online... something I was happy to see and quickly done. After selecting a 5-star rated Armando P., then him pointing to my note here, he quickly felt quite sure what the problem was, which turned out to be correct. 5 minutes from access to my computer then, he checked and resolved!

  Turns out there is a glitch of design MS Armando had seen before where apparently a critical DLL WU has sometimes its framework WU incorrectly reset to OFF during a victory update process. Subsequently, designed user steps to turn back THEY seem to work on the WU System tab, but not in the most important DLL which is what the WU process online checks and caused abandonment. Also explains the Security Center contradictory view that obviously also reflects the status of the DLL. Fix was simply run that regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll back order... problem solved!

  Anyway, thanks once again to try, well sorry to say, I doubt your thought process to identify this specific problem would have gotten us here. So I hope that you will find the useful explanation if you run again in this one.

  (Just FYI) BTW, if I can find a good page to publish it, I intend to scream to the millisecond on why this problem of well-known design has not been corrected, or if not profitable is the reason why, at least it should have been identified on the support pages of MS for XP users, as well as the simple for her fix when it occurs!

• Firefox's automatic update fails. Does not connect to update server why?

  I use Mac OS X Version 10.7.4. I'm also under Firefox version 14.0.1. I am invited to upgrade to version 15, but trying to update, the Update window hangs up for hours and is never spent "connection to the server."   If there is a problem with the update or permissions best, fastest and safest is to download and install firefox:

  1. download a copy of the latest http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html firefox

  2. Trash , install the current application of Firefox to do a cleaning.

  3. install the version you downloaded.

  Do not select to delete your personal data, your profile data is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you will not lose your bookmarks or other personal data.

  For my Vista automatic updates do not work. It indicates that there are a few updates available to download but when I try to download, it fails and an error message appears.

  I have Windows XP Professional with Service Pck3 and I met a virus/malware I finally solved.  Now, my only problem is that my automatic updates of windows does not work.  I have the red shield with the X in the toolbar.  I tried to activate the automatic updates without success and have even tried to download updates manually.  When I try the manual download, I get a Web site problem message with error 0 X 80070424.  I need help to try to tackle this problem.  Thank you

  You might be able to do something with SFC/scannow , or be Windows XP, possibly a repair install might fix things (if you have a Windows XP with the Service Pack 3 installation CD or can integrate a new installation CD for Windows XP SP3).
