Automatic updates of Windows security

Recently, I have a red cross shield in the corner saying HR Security Windows automatic updates is disabled. I tried all the normal methods to market. I also used Fixit and he said: "one or more components of Windows Update are configured incorrectly.  I am running Windows XP and have not knowingly turned off updates. Can someone tell me how to fix this please?

Thanks guys... tbh I think an another 'fix' related to my problem solved the situation for me, but it seems fine now and updates are back on.

If you go to programs and features, and then on the left side you should see a link for "Daily display installed."  Which would then show the list of updates with the State which will show you if it failed or not.

Not only did I always say this, I think you have discovered that it will probably be necessary.

You might be able to do something with SFC/scannow , or be Windows XP, possibly a repair install might fix things (if you have a Windows XP with the Service Pack 3 installation CD or can integrate a new installation CD for Windows XP SP3).

SPACE does the work.  I then restarted the update Windows components and then successfully downloaded and installed 9 security updates.

I understand the fact that you still recommend a format/install. Not having done it would be prudent to see how the operating system is running and if I have any further questions or you feel it is too risky on a computer used to pay bills and perform other necessary transactions. The computer is older and the cost may not be a return value.  I wait your answer before I post any other questions.  I thank you for your time and expertise.

  • "Database corrupt installation" - discovered after failures repeat the installation of automatic updates of Windows

We're running out of WinXP SP3.  Apparently, we are unable to install/uninstall anything correctly.  I think it may have something to do with "a basic installation damaged."  I got this error when trying to manually install KB972581 (a security update for 2007 Microsoft Office System).  This could have been caused by running the Windows Installer cleanup utility, I didn't have problems with Office 2007.  We were informed at all by continuing to upgrade with another program issues.

We daily use Outlook 2007.  Multiple users, so we can't delete it.

Same thing with KB970895 (update of security for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2) - another failure with the description of the error "Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file".

Basically, the automatic updates of Windows always fail.  Comprehensive research of these forums, I found and ran the Microsoft FixIt! # 50202, without result.

How can I fix anything that makes things installation fails?

I had a similar problem - resolved two things actually. First make sure yu have the latest windows installer engine. Then download the package fails and run interactive mode. This will give you the 'real' error which causes the failure so that you can correct it.

In my case it was a dependency on another file system that was resolved by running sfc/scannow - it's maybe not the question you... once again, run the full installation package and also to enablehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/223300 logging to track down issues...

  • Automatic updates of Windows does not detect available updates

original title: Windows Update says MS support is free, but wants to $59 when try!

I've never had a problem with Windows Update, where I have always chosen the option automatically ID and upload the changes of the reviews, but let me decide when to install... until a few days ago, apparently with a new version of WU.  Alert security shield showed red x and retail Security Center showed the firewall and OFF as automatic updates, although I've always had IT firewall and my option of automatic updates, as I said no problem with this selection.

My attempts to correct this situation of Security reported so far have included if the Windows Firewall is enabled (from the Security Center screen), who has worked and now is in this State, but who do not have the Red security alarm.  Then, I tried to launch the "turn on automatic update" in the Security window, but got a response that the Security Center was not able to do this and for me change the setting of the tab panel/system-automatic update of the control.  Did this and it worked there more holds, but the Security Center screen always displays THE OFF slot with the tray still in the Red poster icon.  The repeated attempts and reboots have not solved the problem.  Finally made it to the Windows Update page online and then selected the Express button, resulting in the display of the error:

The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view

Repeated attempts fail with the same opinion.

Then I tried pages support MS help, only to be mixed to offshore to release support for the forum when my problem WU has been predefined, or planned, when I chose 'Other'... so here, HELP!

Operating system is Windows XP Pro SP3, showing latest updates are: Office 2007 (KB2540162), Powerpoint 2003 (KB2509503), Outlook 2003 (KB253641) and WinXP (KB2507618), all installed 10/05/2011

Last question: If no some help here, I should then try either uninstall those last updated above and then try WU or try a restore of the system from an earlier date first?

Thanks for your reply... and diagnostic issues included that you obviously put in a lot of thought to come up with. But not that meeting them shortly after the display of my note here I found another way of MS for free (normally paid) tech support online where, (contrary to your comment) obviously all a liaison person problem WU IS allowed to choose a list of several techs for free. available online... something I was happy to see and quickly done. After selecting a 5-star rated Armando P., then him pointing to my note here, he quickly felt quite sure what the problem was, which turned out to be correct. 5 minutes from access to my computer then, he checked and resolved!

Turns out there is a glitch of design MS Armando had seen before where apparently a critical DLL WU has sometimes its framework WU incorrectly reset to OFF during a victory update process. Subsequently, designed user steps to turn back THEY seem to work on the WU System tab, but not in the most important DLL which is what the WU process online checks and caused abandonment. Also explains the Security Center contradictory view that obviously also reflects the status of the DLL. Fix was simply run that regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuaueng.dll back order... problem solved!

Anyway, thanks once again to try, well sorry to say, I doubt your thought process to identify this specific problem would have gotten us here. So I hope that you will find the useful explanation if you run again in this one.

(Just FYI) BTW, if I can find a good page to publish it, I intend to scream to the millisecond on why this problem of well-known design has not been corrected, or if not profitable is the reason why, at least it should have been identified on the support pages of MS for XP users, as well as the simple for her fix when it occurs!

It is possible that it was by force the windows closed so your firefox which makes you forget... Have you tried to crash your Firefox to see if the session is not restored?

To plant your Firefox, simply there open, press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC and then, on the process tab in the window that appears, complete the process firefox.exe. That will force Firefox to close at this moment. Do start again. If it works, ok, so it may have been a case isolate. My recommendation is to configure your windows does not install updates without your intervention. Choose something like 'ask me what to do' or something like that.
