Automatically start vCenter and vms

Hello

We have Windows Server 2008 R2 running vCenter 4.1 connected to host computers running ESXi 4.0 Update 1.  Every time we restart the server, the vmware vCenter and vmware vCenter Webservices services start up, they are set to start.  They need to be on the delayed start?  I check the event logs to see what is happening.  Is there a log of vmware that I could look at?

In addition, we want to implement our virtual machines as the domain controller starts automatically, but I can't find a way to do.

Thank you

Mike

Thank you very much, we are using SQL Express despite 2 virtual machines running SQL Server 2008 :-)  I'm going to the delay value and see.

If it does not help there are some registry entries, you can make

http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1007669

In addition, we vSphere Essentials.  How can I know that if it is configured for high availability and where I see these priorities?

Essentials does not come with HA.  You can configure your options of start/stop for your guests by going to the configuration of the host tab: start/stop of the VM - properties (upper right corner)

  • Computers, turn on and automatically start

We have two computers, and recently, we have seen that when it is booted up the morning the other automatically starts up and starts.  How do I change this setting?

It is not a Windows or a Windows security problem but a BIOS setting. Check the parameters of start-someone must have activated the network boot.

  • Automatic start/stop for guest settings keep reproduce every time I access the properties

    Greetings,

I have a single ESXi host 5.5 with a single Win 2012 std server prompt.   I have a second guest, but is not in production. Several months ago I "thought" I activated the auto start and stop for this particular customer.  Due to problems of food in the building today, I had the opportunity to stop the comments and the turning off of the host completely.   After the reboot of the host, my guest, never started (automatically). I connected to the host via vsphere client and started manually.  No problems.

I decided to check the settings of automatic start/stop and it is set to manual.  So, either I never actually put it on automatic (and I just have problems of memory in my head (not unusual for me)) or I put it really, and something happened where he became disabled or brought back to the default value.

That said, I went to properties of start-up automatic and as mentioned above, found it turned off, I was able to allow him, but when he returned to the screen (after clicking OK), it displays TWO of each of my virtual machines in the Autorun screen.  I went back to see if I could change/delete/remove the extras (I've found a way to do it), and when I came back out of the screen there are THREE virtual computers listed in the pane. See attachment.  Anyone know what is happening here and how can I remedy the situation?

Am I just being a fool and lack of obvious?

    Thank you.

Exit the VSphere client and restart it solved the problem.  I presume a video type of bug, or maybe a bug with my version of the client.

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community Forum. Rest assured that we would do our best to help you.

What is the number of KB of the update that was installed?

It sounds like a third-party software or service is causing the problem.

You can perform the following steps and check if that helps:

    Step 1:

You can start Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. The following article explains how to solve problems in Windows Vista or Windows 7 by performing a clean boot:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

    Step 2:

You can also scan your computer the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Hope this information helps. Please do not hesitate to answer, we would be happy to help.

  • How to set up so that VMs automatically starts when the host reboot?

We lost power this morning and all 4 ESX hosts are down.  When the power is back, we observe that VM is not started automatically.

We find we have not enabled 'start and stop Virtual Machines with the system.  In this way, we have allowed it.

We'd like to know, is it necessary to move all virtual machines (those we would like to bring start automatically when the host is in place) "Manual start" to "any order"?

In addition, as the setting is on each ESX host, will be the setting (i.e. automatic start in any order) for a particular virtual machine carried over to another ESX host if it is has been vMotioned?

    Thank you

    (1) Yes, it applies for each host and is not shared between all the other hosts and is disabled by default. You must activate it by going to configuration tab look for 'Machine virtual start/stop' to activate and set the priority/delay for your virtual machines

    (2) personally, I don't use this feature, it could be the case that the default update the settings back... it would be surprising if that were the case, I re - activate and try to stop or restart and see if that is the case. If it's the latter, I would file a ticket with VMware if you have a support contract

    (3) No, if everything is configured correctly and the change of the start/stop is retained through reboots, they should automatically turn on virtual machines in the list that you specified.

  • Implementation of host Windows XP to automatically start guest VM at startup XP

I apologize if this question has been asked and answered before.  I looked around, but did not find a similar question/answer.

I want to have my Windows XP host computer to automatically start a VM guest whenever the XP PC is restarted.  Is there a way to do this in the background without having to connect to the host first?  If each Workstation can run only after cutting into account the host how to pay this account so that the Workstation automatically start and for that workstation will automatically start a VM specifice?

    Thank you in advance!

The only VMware product that can auto start VMs without connection is VMware Server or ESX.  ESX will have to wipe your hard drive, which leaves just the server.

Officially, the server does not support versions "desktop" of Windows as hosts.  (Just Server versions of Windows are supported.)  However most people have success with Windows XP as a host, especially with the old server of version 1.  Many people say issues with server on Vista a Win7 guests.  Just so take that into account if you ever upgrade your host.  Limitation of server 1 is it only supports USB1.  If you need for USB2 devices, then you'll want to Server 2.

Me personally, my usual recommendation for automatic start of machines virtual Workstation or Player is to put just the virtual computer shortcuts in the startup folder.  Automatic opening of Windows logon.  (I prefer TweakUI Powertoys from Microsoft since it is a simple GUI and doesn't require editing the registry).  Then make shortcuts to the virtual machines in the Start Menu folder.  If you want security, then have a screen saver password.  In this case, I put the screen saver 5 min.  While not as ideal as having virtual machines to run as a service such as server, I found very few cases where this workaroun isn't enough.  Autostart VMs without logging on means that your host is really act as a server, so better to build your host as a server, rather than a desktop computer.

The fact that server is problematic on Vista and Win7 host and server development seems stalled, I keep recommending Server on non-Windows Server based hosts.  But because you have Windows XP, and it is a version of Windows that VMWare Server was stable on, you have a very good chance to make it work.  I would just recommend that you do not upgrade your host to Vista or Win7.

  • How can I prevent all automatic starts iTunes?

    Hello

Is someone can you PLEASE advise me how I can prevent ITunes turning prematurely gray?  It starts with persistence without asking for confirmation.  I want to be able to achieve is to prevent ITunes automatically start under ANY circumstances.

I have already completed THE steps to ignore my IPhone and IPad and Itunes isn't in any login script (as far as I can see).   Something is always load up and leads me into the wall

What seems to be incited ITunes at startup was a message saying that my Session of Apple (or something like that) had expired and I had to reconnect again...

I found a solution a little backward... but I wonder if an Itunes update has restored this infuriating behavior and to make it worse, I remember not where I found the solution.

    Guidance would be MUCH appreciated.

  • iBooks automatically starts an audio book... How to stop? Help please - thx!

... When I plug Apple EarPods, helmet or an audio jack in my car, iBooks automatically starts an audiobook... it happens all the time when I want to just listen to a song or answer the phone! How to stop?

    Help please - thx!

I have this problem as well on an iPhone 6. I went to Audible for listening to audio books, but iBooks keeps opening and automatic reading a book that I wasn't even listening when I plug in my headphones. Sometimes there is a delay, then I will listen to something on Audible for a few seconds, and then it stops and be interrupted by iBooks from. It is really unpleasant.

I really don't want anything to play automatically when I plug my headphones.

  • Start the host program automatically starts the RT program

    Hey guys,.

I'm in a test phase and wanted to ask if it is possible to start the RTW program automatically, when I start my host VI. I don't have any executable for the moment because I am in the test phase, but I only want to support on "the button execute on the host VI and start (RT and HOST) screws.

Is that possible or do I have to press two buttons to run?

    Kind regards

    Slev1n

As Crossrulz notes, LabVIEW RT is essentially to another computer, does not Windows but rather running a real-time operating system (if on PharLap an Intel processor, often a version of Linux on FPGA hardware, I think).  It has always been necessary for these targets of RT to be 'on' and 'something', of course.  In the early days of LabVIEW Real-time, they sat often slowed down and you would use VI server to download and launch your RT code on them.  With the advent of the LabVIEW project (much) better to manage the objectives of the RT as, OR goes to a slightly different model where, as Crossrulz points out, the RT Code is supposed to be downloaded to the target and configured to start automatically running when the target is powered.

In development Mode, there are provisions to download ("Deploy") and start the target RT and (theoretically), it should be possible to do it programmatically.  I tried to do this, but it was noticeably awkward that I have "gave in" and (except when in development Mode) practical to develop recommended follow-up of OR deploy and defined as starting on the target of RT.

The idea, of course, is that if you know that the target RT is running when you start the host, the target should wait for the host to send a signal saying ' Hi, Target, are you ready to start working with me? (the target, of course, answered "Sure, let's get started...") »).  How to set up the first handshakes, it is up to you.

Note that this model assumes / requires that until the host stops, it informs the RT target that she came out, allowing target RT back to its State "in expectation of the host."  A really simple way to do this, of course, is for the host to tell the target to reboot, which in fact boost its Startup Code (which is the target RT program).

  • Application will automatically start

I have a PC that runs an application automatically at startup and stops at Windows and the PC when you exit the application.  I checked the boot menu (one profile) and a few keys in the registry but found nothing.  Always the application automatically starts when it is started in Mode safe.  If not, where can I get?

Looks like you need to run the free software "Autoruns".  It shows practically everything that runs at startup and gives you the ability to disable one of them.

    Hi janavasiljev,

This problem can occur for the following reasons:
    • Auto-hide the taskbar has been selected for the taskbar and Start Menu Properties.
    • Your user account settings are corrupt.
    • The core files are damaged.
    • The Explorer.exe file does not load at startup.

Make sure that the hide option automatically is not selected for the taskbar and Start Menu Properties.

To determine if the hide option automatically is not enabled for the taskbar and Start Menu properties, follow these steps:

    a. press CTRL + ESC.

    b. If the Start menu is displayed, click on the Start menu and then click Properties.

    c. click on the task bar , clear the Auto-hide the taskbar option and then click OK.
