AVG Free Edition or Security Scanner for MS 1.0.30001.0, who should I believe?

AVG is infection by the Virus (Generic30.amon) reports on an executable installed in 2006.
MS 1.0.30001.0 security scanner found no viruses or Malware.  Who should I believe?

Naïve question of the day: a virus infect an exe without changing the date of last modification?

In general, any antivirus that detects a "generic" virus is a kind of behavior that he dislikes, but does not match a known virus, so the generic label.  A single file is detected, that I personally would consider it a false positive.  Get a scanner in offline mode and scan your computer from a bootable CD or a flash drive, if you want to be sure.

And Yes, a virus can control exactly what you see, if the virus is running.  It's what they do.

    Hello

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the AVG edition free 2011 from AVG Web site. This should solve the problem.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

  • Partitions on SSD for the hypervisor host of vSphere5 (Free Edition)

    Hello

This will be my first installation of a system of 5 hypervisor vSphere (Free Edition). My new PC will contain an SSD (120GB) for the vSphere host and VMs. in addition, it will contain a RAID controller with multiple SATA drives for data. My questions are:

Do I have to create partitions on the SSD drive for installing vSphere 5?

    I read on http://vmetc.com/2009/07/22/best-practices-for-vsphere-esx-4-service-console-partitions/

There is several necessary partiotions. Is the installation program automatically creates those partitions?

Is it possible to store the computer virtual (System of each operating system partition) on this SSD also?

    I will store VMs for 2 x Windows7 (approximately 2x30GB), 1 x FreeNAS, 1 x Linux for Zarafa, 1 x Linux for many other services.

    Kind regards

    Oliver

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Do I have to create partitions on the SSD drive for installing vSphere 5?

No, the installation program will take care of everything for you.

Is it possible to store the computer virtual (System of each operating system partition) on this SSD also?

Yes, the installer will create a VMFS on the SSD volume where you can place these files.

    Good luck!

  • I ran Microsoft Security Scanner, which has removed a virus in a few days, however, he's back, it is "Win32/Pdfjsc.G.

Original title: how to remove Win32/Pdfjsc.G

Not sure if this is the right category for virus removal - it's also a security issue.

I ran Microsoft Security Scanner, which removed a virus.
in a few days, however, he's back. I just ran the scanner even once, it identifies and remove Win32/Pdfjsc.G
can anyone tell how to prevent him from returning?

    Thank you very much.

    joy

The safety of MS Scanner will not prevent your system from being infected again - you need to use another product to help with that.

No single analytical tool seems to know everything, so it is prudent to use more than one.

Microsoft is not in cases of prevention, detection or removal of malware - that aren't their specialty.  There are other companies where the removal, prevention and detection of malware is their specialty and that's all they do all day long.

Why are we expect or ask Microsoft to surpass in the areas where it's not their job?

We do not know enough about your system for now, so see if you can get it cleaned up and stabilized first and then decide what to do next.

If you still think your system may be achieved a malware, I would do these things before you start any troubleshooting effort:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs at:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

Download and run Hitman Pro here and during installation to be 100% sure to refuse the installation of toolbars, decline any e-mail options, nothing to do with Bing or MSN, perform a scan time, accept no e-mail and activate the free license:

http://www.SurfRight.nl/en/downloads/ (make sure you get the free version)

Download and run TDSSKiller from Kaspersky:
    http://support.Kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?QID=208280684

The scans by operating clean, then to solve any problems.

If you still think that you have any questions, then proceed as follows:

Since the Microsoft Answers forum does not have any kind of information system request when a new question is asked, we know absolutely nothing about your system.  Not knowing the basic information a problem prolongs the frustration and the agony of these issues.

Thank you MS Answers, allowing the resolution of simple problems as frustrating and a lot of time as possible.

Provide information on your system, the better you can:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

What is your Internet browser and version?

Your system's disks IDE or SATA drives?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Panda, Trend Micro, CA, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc..

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a genuine XP installation CD bootable, which is the same Service as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

Do you see that you think not you should see and when you see it?

What do not you think that you should see?

If the system works, what do you think might have changed since the last time it did not work properly?

  • After AVG free scan system crash

I performed the analysis of the free AVG system, repair any problems found, removed some unused programs and restarted my computer.  Now, after reboot, it gives the start option in safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode command prompt and start windows normally.  No matter which option to choose, the next thing I see is a black screen with a white cursor arrow and nothing else.  I called AVG and their "tech-buddy", said I probably have a really bad virus and they could get my computer to run for $129.99!

I need help to get this laptop is going, please!

    Hello

Perform the steps mentioned below and check if the problem persists.

Step 1: Repair of the WinRE boot (environment recovery)
See the link below to run in Startup Repair WinRE.

    Step 2: Microsoft Safety Scanner
    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx
Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again. The Microsoft Safety Scanner is not a replacement for the use of antivirus software that offers continuous protection. For a real-time protection that helps you keep your home or small office PC against viruses, spyware and other malicious software, download Microsoft Security Essentials.
Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.
    Hope this information helps.
  • I used Windows registry free edit and there no return upwards before you make the changes, and now my compyuer is SLOW

Can anyone recommend a good registry Fixer-fix?   I've used Windows free Registry repair and she saved before it changed things, but there is no thought. My machine would hardly do anything, so I restored back upward by the software registry repair that I used to use. That has helped some, but my system is still VERY slow, almost like he wants to plant. Give me advice? Or to recommend program?

    Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit

I haven't used this registry cleaner, or use Registry cleaners at all because it can mess up your pc if you know exactly what you are doing.

Malwarebytes is not an antivirus, it is a removal of malicious software, if you don't have an antivirus, you should not be connected to the internet. However, MSE is a software free antivirus you can download it here:

    Microsoft Security Essentials download

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/PC-security/MSE.aspx

I watched most of tutorials for Macrium reflect, and most of them say they are to restore the entire disk, the free version.

The pro version offers replacement of individual files, I assume you are using the free version.

If your system is backed up, then I just restore the version that has a good record, if it is backed up nightly registry should be also.

I don't know how to restore the registry, I recommend that you restore the entire disk, however, if your system was executed without an antivirus, I would make a perfect relocation with full formatting.

Or you can run the following tests:

Download, install, update and scan with these full free malware detection programs:

    Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/

    SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
