B560 and MSATA SSD

Hi all

The hard drive is recently went out on B560 sister and to add some speed to this laptop, as well asleave the option open for further expansion with a 2.5 "drive, I ordered and Nocti OCZ 60 GB MSATA SSD. Popped it right into the MSATA hole opened in the area hard drive right next to the wifi card. However, it is not recognized in the BIOS or by a Windows 7 installation disc.

Help?

Thank you

AD

Lenovo B560 won't work with msata SSD.

The combination of BIOS and mini PCI slot in the laptop was not designed for the storage drives.

I handed my msata SSD and I bought a used 2.5 "SSD. The old HD is now external with a Sata to USB adapter.

I agree with Akuma. Satellite U400 is old enough laptop model and its standard SATA port, you cannot use reader with connector mSATA (mini-SATA).
the mSATA discs are smaller and designed for use on the netboos and ultraportable notebooks.

  • E420s and mSATA SSD

    Hi people,

I bought an e420s year last with a 320 GB 7200 RPM HARD drive and is now looking to experience (finally) SSD technology. I thought that I should replace my HDD with a SSD, but I'm hesitant to sacrifice storage space that offers from my HARD drive. In addition, I can't afford to buy a large SSD. So, I thought that a good compromise is to adapt to an SSD mSATA on which I can install my OS and frequently used apps, keep the HARD drive for storage.

My question: the e420s does support SATA III mSATA SSD? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere and support refuses to answer that I passed my warranty.

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you!

    Hi gojaysgo,

I have discussed your problem with teams and founded their explanation MSATA III will be able to support your machine. One of the gurus (joelle) uses the X 220 with the MSATA III and it works very well for him. Well, it should work for you too and as I understand it, the drives are backward compatible.

    I hope this helps.

  • X 230 mSATA SSD with possible edge to 3 G?

I want to upgrade my x 230 with an SSD. My model is the NZD79MS with integrated 3 G WWAN and a 500 GB HARD drive. I wonder if I can add an mSATA SSD to use as system disk and keep the HARD disk provided as secondary data drive, or if the mSATA space is occupied with the WWAN module. I really don't want to lose the functionality of 3G or use an external dongle for 3G connectivity, so sacrificing the WWAN module is not an option. I was not able to find this information: can I WWAN and mSATA SSD at the same time on my x 230?

In general, the WWAN card and mSATA card must be in the same housing at the same time, which is not possible.

I have an E320 of edge with I5 and 8 GB of DDR3 memory.

First of all I want to change the keyboard which is English - UK, and I want an English-United States. Can you direct me to a link where to find parts of edge? I'm from jahpang.

Second question, can I add an SSD slot mSATA and keep at the same time the five 7200 RPM for storage and change the boot on the SSD drive.

    I found this link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=PD015155

so I think that it is possible, but I want a confirmation. and I found this SSD and they know E320-compatible:

with respect to the SSD, yes you can. Once you have it installed, you can change the bios startup sequence.

  • x 230 mSATA SSD rescue and recovery

Hi everyone, I have a x 230 CTO on his way and read a bit about adding an mSATA SSD on the slot available under the palmrest.  In these forums I have seen a few posts here telling people that if they have 2 drives installed and want the software R & R, they should remove the drive planning on installing to.

Because I am a tinkerer and will probably be reformatting/imagery every two weeks or so, is there a best way to get right on the main hard drive or msata car machine to recover properly?  What to remove the disk from the boot order in the BIOS has not completed the R & R software?

Looking to avoid opening housing more that just the first time install.  I'd be interested to hear opinions on this.

Please see my clarification above in the previous comment.

    [Edit for clarification]

What I expect to do when getting the laptop is immediately create R & R discs and put it away as I did in the past.  I would replace the regular disk with a 2.5 SSD "and also add an mSATA player to test Linux.  Ideally, I would like never to have to open the computer again, however, it seems that I would need to make sure that the mSATA disk has been removed, if you are using the R & R media to fix an image of Windows 7 on SSD, 2.5 "at least with a particular R & r version.

I have reason to assume that regular Windows 7 or 8 media would be unaffected by the present?  say I downloaded the preview release of Windows 8, a USB key and went to install it.  I guess that the installer should treat my x 230 as any other PC with two drives and give me the visibility and the ability to format and install on a drive?  I'm just trying to determine if there is a design limitation of material or half-baked software Lenovo.

Here is where I am confused now, and maybe it's because I have a basic misunderstanding of what create R & R discs is doing.

Each Lenovo PC has partition hidden with a full installation of Windows, wrapped in or slipstreamed in Lenovo owners recovery software.  Discs R & R means that the Windows client software is to simply copy the contents of partition recovery through 3 or 4 CDs (or whatever the amount) for recovery if the hidden partition is destroyed or damaged in the future.

I understand that the drive letters are arbitrary and do not mean anything outside of windows, with two disks completely formatted, there is no letter to affect because there is no current Windows.  In this case, my suspicion is running from the SEC recovery software is automatically identify the hard drive with the SATA device number and restore the image of her without a choice to use other readers available system or in this case, is not purely and simply with an error.

    My condensed questions are:

    1. the my previous assumption is correct?

    2. how R & R works on Thinkpads with freshly formatted double OEM drives?

3 vanilla copies of Windows 7/8/Linux will be installed between the two discs without problem?

I think you're mostly right but let see if I can clarify

If there is something installed to the location of the hard drive (hdd or ssd) R & R will install on this disk. If you want R & R the mSATA reader then you need to remove all that is in the position of the hard drive.

If all you want to do is install Linux on the mSATA so there is no problem. The R & R will reinstall for the ssd, and then you can install what you want on the mSATA.

Make one installs own no problem, the only question tries to R & R anything other than what is in the location of the hard drive.

    Clarifies that the it?

  • Portege R930 - upgrade the mSATA SSD succssfull

Just briefly, I wanted to report an SSD upgrade.

When I got my Portege R930 (PT331E, i7) two years ago, I changed the HD to a PRO 840 Samsung SSD 512 GB (big improvement). Now, this SSD is too small (photos!) and I wanted to increase the capacity up to 1 TB.

But instead of a new SATA, I decided to go for an mSATA + adapter SATA I felt an mSATA unit would be more "evolutionary" - next update of the laptop for me would be a Portege Z, who use mSATA.

So I bought a Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB with a Delock adapter/converter mSATA SSD, made a clone of the Apricorn cable and the software switched the SSD and everything works fine (actually a little faster )! At first I tried to use the clone with software from Samsungs migration but this didn t work, maybe I didn t the right version.

-Now I have a lager SSD that will live longer than my R930. Please note that I'm not an expert with computers - just a happy user Toshiba! Thanks for a good forum with my good ideas!

Probably, you have found a mini-PCI on the motherboard slot. It certainly looks like mSATA but its not the same thing.

  • Ultrabook Envy6-1100sl: install a 2nd OS on the msata SSD - Envy6-1100sl

Hi, I upgraded my envy6 with 16 GB Crucial RAM and 500 GB samsung SSD evo. After upgrade, I did a clean install of windows 10 and stopped to use the itegrated msata ssd. My question is:
Can I install a second operating system on the msata ssd? Can this bios read the second OS on the msata? Is there a procedure to follow?
    Thank you

Thanks for suggesting it, but I've created a simple way... I just installed the second OS on the msata. At startup the sistem starts automatically on my main drive (500 GB win10), but if I press F9 when starting, I can see my linux on second drive (32 GB msata) and just choose to start when I need.
Don't need to grub or similar just manual choice, and that's what I wanted!

  • I need drivers to install Win7 64 bit on mSATA SSD

    Hello!

    I need drivers to install WIN7 x 64 on THNSNH256GMCT mSATA SSD

Serial number on my product is 23NS10BFTABY

    Thank you!

This serial number does not help much. It will be better if you can display the name of the exact model laptop and the model number.

Anyway, visit Toshiba support and download page for your country and if your laptop model is supported for Win7 64 bit, you should be able to find all of the necessary drivers, tools and utilities.

AMD model No., you can not install a WSSD. The answer on Intel models depends on the specific model. Many cannot use a WSSD as boot drive, but some can.

    Here is the Manual:

    Manual

See pp. 4-13. It is a WWAN port and would not recognize a storage mSATA device.

See p. 4-18 for the installation of the hard disk. Should be a SATA SSD.

  • Satellite U940 - 11 d - 32 GB mSATA SSD use

    Hello world

I bought the week last Toshiba U940 - 11 d and I would replace the drive HARD 750 GB with 120 GB SSD. I have a question. I would like to install Windows 8 in SSD 120 GB drive and use another DDD which is mSATA for swap or my documents. Is this possible?

What can I do for my application? Can I use 32 GB mSATA as normal SSD SSD or I can use only to the cache?

    Best regards.

    > I have a question. I would like to install Windows 8 in SSD 120 GB drive and use another DDD which is mSATA for swap or my documents. Is this possible?

It would be possible if the system of Windows 8 would recognize the mSATA 32 GB as an additional drive. I m not 100% sure of this, but I guess only in case this is not possible, you could use this drive for caching mSATA SSD.
