Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not work, I can not update and I've produced keyfor Windows Media edition, but not CD!
I can't update my laptop that my uncle gave me, I tried from LITTLE, but I get "error 2: the system cannot find the specified file" and it's one of the problems I have among others, so I decided just to reinstall Windows xp media edition BUT I n 'T HAVE THE CD! but I don't have my product keys until I do? Please don't say I have to buy a CD? I already tried Windows Update (but he fails), Trouble shooting, renaming bat and download of updates from my desktop but they always failure I go to Windows update to see which updates, I need and well it's like update 49 need then I reinstall just enough, if that's possible with a CD?
Backup of personal data (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then do a format and clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

BITS Background Intelligent Transfer Service () are not not in services
Hi, my computer has stopped automatic update of windows. I use vista 32 bit home premium. It seems that the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (bits) has been disabled. I tried to turn it on, but the problem is IT IS NOT in THE LIST OF SERVICES... so I can't put it on automatic or manual or anything. All the news media say is go to services and and BITS is set to automatic, but how can I do if it is not in the list? !!!
Whenever I have run windows update it shows "found error code 80246008.
Someone help pleeease. I'm at my wits end what to do.
I spent far too long trying to solve this problem. BITS must be recorded first, before you can even begin to try one of the other solutions here: sc create BITS binpath = "c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe-k netsvcs" = delayed automatic start or restart, or go to Services (run: services.msc) and restart it yourself.

HOW TO MAKE IT (BITS) ON FOREVER. PLEASE HELP PLEASE HELP? WILL NEVER GET MY FREE COPY OF WINDOWS 10 THROUGH 'GET WIN10 APP '. PLZ ANSWER. PLEASE.
Hello
Thanks for posting your query to the Microsoft forum.
I appreciate your efforts to try to solve the problem and I will definitely help you with this.
BITS may stop if there is corruption in the Windows files, we can try these methods to solve them.
Method 1: Run SFC scan
I suggest that you can exercise SFC scan and check if that helps. The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions. It is a Windows utility that allows users to find corruptions in Windows system files and restore the damaged files.
See the link: use the File Checker system to repair missing or corrupted system files
If this does not help, follow method 2.
Method 2:
Please try these steps below and check:
- Press the Windows key on the keyboard
- Type command line
- Right click on and run as administrator
Step 1: Run the following command at the command prompt with administrative mode.
SC create BITS binpath: "c:XwindowsXsystem32Xsvchost.exe - k netsvcs" start: delayed-auto
Step 2: Run these commands one by one in the box RUN or 'Command Prompt'
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32
softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dllregsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
Step 3: Restart computer
You can also download the Windows 10 from the link below and check.
Download Windows 10 and run the installer from the desktop.
Note: I strongly recommend to back up all your important files and folders on an external storage device before performing the installation.
Please post back with the results. We will be happy to help you further.

Miss me "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" in the list of Services...
This question is further to my previous question: "I can not install updates to Windows.
Gerry gave me advice about changing the settings of my "Intelligent Service of transfer background."
BUT the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" is not listed as one of the Services.
Where can I download this service for? Or is there something else I need to do?
Thank you!
I didn't try it myself, but see 14- http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/misc-registry-fixes-for-windows-7-xp-vista/ if all goes well.
As there is a registry fix, it may be an idea to backup everything first, or at least export your registry database existing first.
OR maybe first try the FixIt of MS windows upgrade - http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/

I am running Windows XP SP3 on a desktop computer. I have a problem with windows update does not, I think the problem is the BITS service.
In the Services list, Windows Update is listed and put on the market but (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service is listed as ' @% SystemRoot%\System32\qmgr.dll,-1000.»
I tried to follow the instructions on this link.http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_update/bits-not-listed-under-services-in-win-xp/9e0a3fe5-e193-4441-b3f4-85df0e9b42aa
I did a search for qmgr.dll and only found a location C:\WINDOWS\system32.
Research has not found
C:WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
C:WINDOWS\system32\bits
I also tried
Microsoftfixit.wuRNP.13130938846183180.1.1.Run.exe
Microsoftfixit.wuMATSKBRun.exe
MicrosofFixit.wu.RNP.12309915728318878.Run.exe
Don't know why there are three versions?
I run some antivirus scans and found a problem on a second hard drive. I removed the disk and another scanner so that the C drive is clean. I don't know what caused this, but I don't think it's a virus.
I think I have my installation disc, so perhaps this is an option to use.
Hope someone can help.

Thank youI think that another procedure also credit Xircal will work for your script, so I copy and paste it here. This assumes that you have no subfolder named bits in the system32 folder
Here are the steps to follow if you have qmgr.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32
- Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32, right-click and select new | Folder
- Name bits (lower case) If you lose the highlight, click on new folder to select it again and then hit F2. Delete "new folder" and rename it to bits
- Open C:\WINDOWS\system32 still once, find qmgr.dll, right-click and choose copy from the menu.
- Open C:\WINDOWS\system32\bits and choose Paste. You should see qmgr.dll appear in the bits folder.
- Then, go to Start, run , and copy/paste: regsvr32 qmgr.dll and click OK (If you have run on the start menu, hit instead of key Windows + R)
- Do the same with this file: regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
- Restart the PC and then copy / paste this command into the field run:
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\qmgr.inf - If you are prompted to insert the Windows installation CD, ignore this and in the dialog at the bottom where it says copy the files, change the path to C:\WINDOWS\system32
- Restart the PC and then go to the Services and you should be able to see BITS in the list. Open the Services menu, go to start / run, copy and paste services.msc and click OK.
- In the Background Intelligent Transfer Service BITS or is visible in the list, double-click it, and then click on the Start button. This step is just a test to make sure it works properly.

It should work fine now, but in the unlikely case where it fails again, run the following command, and then press ENTER:

Background Intelligent Transfer Service is missing in XP
Hello
I had problems to install updates from Microsoft Updates and looking at the error messages it tells me that I need to check the properties of the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, but when I search this file is missing.
How to replace this file missing and how I see that other registry files are missing?
Thank you
Katie
I have XP Home Edition I've just updated to SP3. Windows Update stopped working. There are 27 files for me, but all fail to install. There is no sign of BITS when I run services.msc, in Standard or extended tabs.
This method did not work for me, things go off track right from the start because when I run %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\qmgr.inf he asks me the original disc of XP SP3. But my drive is only SP1.
When I put it in and the program heading it, copy the two files even if the target files are overwritten are newer than those on the disc, but then says he can't copy a file with a name like bitsprix.
This problem has held a ridiculous amount of time. Can someone please help?
Hi Marbrien,
Follow these steps.
Open the Windows search tool, copy / paste the following text, and then click Search: qmgr.dll
Research should show this file in the following locations:
C:\Windows\System32
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bitsYou can only see qmgr.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32.
Click on start, run and copy/paste: regsvr32 qmgr.dll and click OK
Do the same with this file: regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
Reboot the system and then copy / paste this command into the field run:
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\qmgr.infIf you are prompted to insert the Windows installation CD, ignore this and in the dialog below, replace the path C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
Change the path to C:\WINDOWS\system32 if qmgr.dll was only present at this place. **
Restart the PC and then go to the Services and you should be able to see BITS in the list.
Double click on it and then on the general tab, click the Start button to start the service manually. This is just a test to make sure that it works correctly.
If you get 2 error: cannot find the specified file, click on start, then run again and copy / paste the following command, and then click OK:
Tracking Add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BITS\Parameters /v ServiceDll /t REG_EXPAND_SZ /d %windir%\System32\qmgr.dllReboot again and try once more to start the PIECES. It should work fine now, but in the unlikely case where it fails again, run the following command, and then press ENTER:
Reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackupReboot once more and then do the following.
Go to this link and install the IE8 December Update:
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-GB/download/details.aspx?ID=41404If you use IE7, use this link instead:
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-GB/download/details.aspx?ID=41442Finally, go to the Windows Update site and you should be able to download normally.

Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Oh dear... after 65 years as a computer nerd I wasn't expecting to ask for help like that?
I run a number of systems to help Golden Oldies like me! He is a dear 'friend' system XP SP3 with ALL available patches!
I bought and installed a software called Advanced SystemCare act well known or trusted.
Literally 5 minutes before I loaded it, I ran an update XP and BITS worked great!
Then...! ? BITS had DISAPPEARED from my list of Services and Windows update fails with a 'need of service BITS... Activate Service list'!It was a MONTH ago!
Since then, I read most of what there is on the net about losing your FORESTS! (That happen to us older guys!)I removed Advanced SystemCare course and tried everything I can "reinstall BITS", but it always comes back with 'later version installed!
I tried to get back to the last working version, but... always missing from the list of services!
I tried to do different forms of 'net stop or start' and get the response "Not found BITS" and various files now missing, although that ALL try to install v2.5 or later STILL Gets the later installed "version!
Makes a complete ' SFC/scannow' and various tools (including good DrWatson) say "system all the files in place and correct!
YUKKKKKK! SO annoying!
I could make a recovery of the entire system of my backups, but I would lose more than I would win!
Oh, BTW... I think there is something in the registry that is screwing up but I dug around and can't see what it is!
If you agree that I made all of the MS (et al.) top of page advice/success including Fixit...
CAN SOMEONE SUGGEST SOMETHING ELSE?
Tony
Oh dear... after 65 years as a computer nerd I wasn't expecting to ask for help like that?
I run a number of systems to help Golden Oldies like me! He is a dear 'friend' system XP SP3 with ALL available patches!
I bought and installed a software called Advanced SystemCare act well known or trusted.

Hi Tony,.
Follow these steps if you have a desktop computer. If you have a laptop, go to section 2
Open the Windows search tool, copy / paste the following text, and then click Search: qmgr.dll
Research should show this file in the following locations:
C:\Windows\System32
C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bitsIt may be present in C:\WINDOWS\system32, but if you can see it in at least one of the locations, follow these steps to register the service.
Click on start, run and copy/paste: regsvr32 qmgr.dll and click OK
(hit Windows key + R if you do not run in the start menu)Do the same with this file: regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
Restart the PC and then copy / paste this command into the field run:
%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe setupapi, InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\inf\qmgr.infIf you are prompted to insert the Windows installation CD, ignore this and in the dialog below, replace the path C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386
If you could only see qmgr.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32 you can change the path to that instead.

How to reset the Windows Update components?
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058Method 3:
Your anti-virus software is in conflict with Windows updates. You can test this by temporarily disabling your antivirus:
Disable the antivirus software
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-softwareNote: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
