Backup and restore > Creat an Image of the system: program cannot find a WD external hard drive

I recently bought and installed a MyBook 2 t Western Digital network drive.  It installed fine and I can see listed on the 'Computer' desktop and icon within the Norton backup program.  I have setup my regular backup routines successfully.  On the bottom: I recently lost a hard drive and replaced with a new one and spent several days to restore the system and install any patches, etc.  It was particularly difficult to get the installed Windows 7 SP1.  I wanted to install this drive external hard to use Windows built-in Backup and Restore to "create a system image.  When I select this option, the program asks me where I want to save the backup. I select the button of "on a hard drive" and search for the external hard drive.  It notes the two internal hard drives, external hard drive is not found.  Support WD provided the following instructions:

    Two points:

    1. If you want to delete some installed programs, do not make

    2. a drive of 74 GB is a tiny disk these days. There are a number of

  • Backup and restore create a journal after you have created a System Image?

Hello. Regularly, I run a backup of Windows, including an Image system, every Sunday nite. Backup of the last nite seems to work normally, except when I look at the last nite WindowsImageBackup, it seems empty. Shouldn't I perceived some kind of error message if the process of the Image of the system has failed? Is a journal written anywhere that describes the backup. If not, how can I determine if it is any good or not. The backup of the user data which took place at the same time seems to be fine. Thank you.

Backup of the last nite seems to work normally, except when I look at the last nite WindowsImageBackup, it seems empty.

Mystery solved.  When I right click the selected properties and a folder of images, he showed 0 file 0 bytes. It wasn't until I left clicked on the backup folder to open it that I was able to verify the content. After you open the folder, right click and selecting Properties shows now the 50 GB I expected to see.

  • Reference Dell backup and restore - "an error occurred during the creation of the backup of the system"

I have a Dell XPS-8700 running Windows 7.  I bought the Dell Backup and Recovery Premium Edition.

I was able to create a backup bootable (hot spare), and I can create a backup of data on my external hard drive.  However, whenever I try to create a backup on my external hard drive system, after about three seconds in the process, he returned: "an error occurred during the creation of the backup of the system.

How can I create a backup of the system?  Why I get this error?

Thanks for all the info. My situation sounds very similar to yours.

I removed using Add/REMOVE programs in the control panel DBR and he removed cleanly.

V1.7.1.2 downloaded and executed new facility.

When I ran, it was my premium license key so he had yet to register and was not removed by uninstall.

As before, Rescue Disk ran and installed the new partition (DBR_BOOT) on WD Passport.

However, backup system immediately stopped with disconnected, missing target location or full. Tried several times...

In any case, sounds like you have solved your problem, so you like OP should this brand this post/thread as answered. I will continue to post on my other thread.

  • Windows Vista backup and restore: no path to write the disc label

    Original title: Back-up-Windows Vista

Automatic backup on windows vista provides a label to write on the dvd in the external disk drive. There is no pop-up window to indicate where to write that the label - so fails it AutoSave.

When I insert a blank DVD RW in the drive E back-up indicates firstly that there is no disc in drive E. When I insert this disc a second time, that a pop-up window indicates that I have to label this disk as shown above, but there is no path [local] who then shows how to label this disc.

    Brucebkb123,

I would, if I were you, save all the time and the aggravation of the use of DVDs for backup of files.
Go to a RELIABLE computer store (not Best Buy), ask for an EXTERNAL hard drive for backup of files. Not the 'E' drive that you said. This isn't an external hard drive.
Today, a drive Ext. hard can easily be done for less than $100. It is well worth, instead of pulling your hair.

Make sure what you say "external hard drive for backing up files.

You can check if there are errors listed in Event Viewer related to backup is not made. To open Event Viewer, follow the link below.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-information-appears-in-event-logs-Event-Viewer

You can also try to disable the security software and then try to run the backup utility and check if that helps.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

  • The combination catlogs referencing pictures on several external hard drives?

    Hello:

Working with a client who had about 250 000 images stored on two 2 TB external hard drives... some pictures on each drive...

We went just to LR CC2015 and I would like to eliminate the redundancy of the CATALOG.

To get started, I created two catalogues, one for each hard disk and imported (added that copies of the photos of each disc).

Now I want to combine catalogs in a renowned referencing all the pictures on it

    several external hard drives.

I think it is ok to do this but it best to double check with forum initially thought. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Barbara Reiner

You can use the "Import an another catalog" option under the file menu to import a catalog into another. I suggest that you set "File management" as shown in the attached screenshot. In this way there is no need to move/reconnect files/photos associated with the source file.

  • How to print a list of the movies that I have on an external hard drive

I have my iTunes on an external hard drive.  I would like to print a list of the movies.  I tried 'print' which causes quicktime and iTunes to open. I tried "select all", "copy", then paste in the text change which causes a spinning endless ball and the eventual system crash.  I guess she's trying to print the actual movies rather than on the list.  Any ideas how to create a list of the contents of a disc and then print this list?  I use OS X on a macbook pro 10.11.5.

You a run this in Terminal and it will display the names of files in a file on your desktop.

    LS path/to/file > > ~/Desktop/Movies.txt

Replace the full path to the folder path/to/folder.

  • Move the Windows Media Player files to another external hard drive

The hard disk that contains the files from my Windows Media Player 10 is dying.  I need to move the data to a new hard drive that I bought, but have not yet connected to my PC.  Old and new external hard drives are plug-and-play.

I have a lot of additional information to the library and want to be sure that I don't lose in the process.  However, I have not found anything in the documentation that tells me how to move my database from one hard disk to another.  Can anyone help?

If music files are in MP3 or WMA format, so most of the information is also stored in the files themselves, so that these information will be retained when the files are moved. There are a few fields that are not stored in the files, such as play account, custom fields and possibly star ratings. In order to preserve these fields during the movement of the library, you can use the backup of the metadata tool.

  • Problems reinstalling the programs previously installed on an external hard drive.

So we have this 900 GB external hard (called the [re] drive) drive still connected to your computer via the USB port. To save space on the local hard drive (drive C), whenever I had to install a program, I would put all of his stuff on the external hard drive. Now, I know it was a stupid idea because it can completely screw your computer somehow. in any case, after I realized that I should only record the program on the computer files, I deleted all the program files on the external hard drive and planned to resettle them on the local C drive. However, for what I'm trying to install on the C drive, I always get a weird error message, and I'm sure it has to do with already being installed on the ext disk. In addition, the ext drive gets disconnected from time to time, and there wearing always changes. It used to be included in the port of J, but now it's on the port of K. When the ext disk used to contain the program files, it was listed under the J drive. After I tried to reinstall everything, the reader became the K drive because he got more unplugged. I don't know that this has something to do with all these installation errors as well. However, no matter what port I plug the ext drive in, it refuses to change: it won't change k. It's so frustrating! I can not even my printer drivers to reinstall correctly, and I'm having a HUGE problem with reinstalling Java. I tried to work around this problem, since a few months now, and now I'm about to take just a baseball bat to this computer and replace this piece of *. And I've already messed around a bit with the registry editor, and I DID find things listed (as in Java or my OfficeJet printer) in the title of the folder on drive J railways, which of course is not an existing file path, because it changed the drive K. But I'm not sufficiently comfortable with the registry, in order to have the courage to do so much = (in any case, someone has any ideas? And the system restore does not restore points soon enough if it's what you recommend.

    Hi Ron,

What is the exact problem that you are experiencing when trying to reinstall?

Programs must be uninstalled and reinstalled to the correct location.

If the deleted programs are still in the Recycle Bin, you can restore them and change the drive back letter and follow the correct procedure.

  • the iTunes folder copy of office on external hard drive

I'm trying to back up my iTunes music on an external hard drive folder.  Whenever I try to drag the file to another drive, I get an error stating that "the operation cannot be performed because you do not have permission to access the .iTunes Preferences.plist.  I also have problems backing up my iPhone and iPad because I get an error indicating that there is a problem with the purchased content.

By some other posts, I tried to remove the .itunes Preferences.plist file, reboot, restart iTunes and try to copy again - I still get the same message.  I tried different external drives without success.  All discs are in Mac OS extended (journaled) format.  I'm running OS X 10.10.5 on a Mid MacPro 2010 that contains 4 HDDs and using iTunes 12.3.3.17.

Have you tried to run a check disk from the BIOS (Basic Input Output System)? If this isn't the case, you can try to do a hard drive from the BIOS test & see if the problem still occurs.

Please community, help me. First of all, I have upgraded to win 10 and it works well. So I decided to start from scratch and got a bigger hard drive and reinstall win 8. I did successfully, but when I rebooted the computer, I received a statement that says "Boot Manager is damaged, the system cannot start ', which is why I am now looking for a start or install disk for win 8 64 bit oem. I was not able to start since I received the message. Help, please.

    Hello

Maybe that's a problem, but you can try...

You can try to download the ISO of Windows 8 from the following link:

    Download the .exe installation of:

    http://Web.ESD.Microsoft.com/W8DL/WSEC5B1D8A9DFDFD92DFB736C5B1D8956B5B1D8/Windows8-Setup.exe

Click on Setup.exe. The wizard of Windows 8 will begin. Enter your key of Windows 8 and press Next.

Click install now and let the full download.

The installation files will be stored by default in the C:\ESD\Windows folder.

When the "Install Windows 8" message is displayed, select 'Install by creating media' to create a bootable USB key or .iso (a disk image) file. Chose a folder to store the image, for example "Windows.iso.
