Backup failover

Hi all

I'm testing a failover to my database pending. I want to make my day as principal. But when I try to start open the day before, I got the error message saying that the database was not a watch :(

What do you think I forgot?

Thank you

If I cost cutting, why is a disc of editing not possible to do remote? :(

Then make sure that you are capable of transporting archives as soon as they are generated on the primary. No other option.
Or you can see the option of alternative with good pack http://www.dbvisit.com/products/dbvisit_standby_database_for_oracle_disaster_recovery

When in fact the standby mode only reads the disc?

Nope, Archive log is dumped online journal primary file won't use once if it is checked.

Yes I know my dear :), but that means is that the primary is currently unloading redo online connect you for the format of newspaper archives (ongoing and not yet completed), the day before already caught and apply it to its database. Something as they are access codes.

AM not saying put online redo log files in the shared location, only archives location what ever you mentioned in "LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n.
In addition, it has nothing to do to sleep with primary online redo logs, when there is no link between them.

  • WAN2 switch

I recently bought a Cradlepoint cellular modem to connect to WAN2 of my LRT224 for backup/failover purposes.

The best signal LTE is in our master bedroom.  My router is in the basement.

    Currently, my setup is:

    -HSI Comcast to WAN1 LRT224

    -LRT224 1/2 LGS326P (LAG) ethernet ports.  Unused ports 3/4

-LGS326P feeds a single ethernet in the master bedroom that has a LGS308P switch

-Main LGS308P port 1 bedroom is to switch, 2 AP Cisco WAP371 port, port 3 to AppleTV, port 7 for Samsung TV (switch in my living room has more ports in use, and the TV was on port 7... Basically, I copied the config as the TV is on its own VIRTUAL local area network)

So, my question is the following:

Can I somehow run WAN2 on the LRT224 through the switch, the master bedroom and still function as a modem/router backup?

I really want to avoid another drop ethernet to run it in the master bedroom, but I may have no choice.

    Thank you!

As far as I know, the LRT does not support offsets, this could cause unusual effects on your network.

Add a new VLAN to the LGS326P and LGS308P (ex: VLAN3).

Set port 3 in the LGS326P not identified VLAN3 and excluded from all other VLANS. Connect the port of LGS326P 3 to the LRT WAN2.

Do LGS308P port 8 VLAN3 untagged and excluded from all other VLANs that you would plug in the LTE modem in.

Ports for the cable between the floors must be defined on trunk and labeled for VLAN3.

  • Two router network installation

I have two routers in my network, a Linksys WCG200 cable wireless router, and a router wireless broadband Linksys WRT54G3G-ST.  The latter is used in my motorhome in addition to providing backup/failover of the loss of cable service.  I want to configure them so (1) all the workstations can see the entire network no matter what router, they are connected, and (2) the cabability wireless on both routers must be active.  It would be preferred that the broadband router could be disconnected and the motorhome without reconfiguration - laptops that connect through the router might as well in the office and in the motorhome.

The cable modem has a static IP wireless network printer configured in addition two VoIP adapters (both are DHCP).  I wish that they would continue to function normally when the router broadband is removed from the network (in collaboration with laptops).

I tried the two routers in subnets in separate subnets, but cannot determine how to make all visible devices - the WRT54G3G-ST's advanced routing capabilities, but I have not determined a framework that will achieve the objectives.

If anyone can help to direct me to a path to the solution, I would appreciate it a lot.

Gandalf, thanks.  Both answers confirm that Linksys routers do not interconnect two subnets of a network, for this, the most advanced routers are necessary.

  • VRTX - Server, fabric, PERC, Virtual Disk - understanding of the FAILURES of components

I am trying to better understand the inner workings of the VRTX.  Here's my setup to help my question:

Failover cluster of Hyper-V 2012 with 1 M520 as DC and 3 M620s as host servers with two cards of mezz for fabric B and C.

Two controllers SPERCS (CSV and witness of the virtual disks controlled by SPERCS 1 and SPERCS 2 as backup/failover)

I noticed that the SPERCs are each connected to a fabric switch (SPERCS 1--> B Switch fabric) and 2 SPERCS--> C switch fabric.

What will happen if I pass a fabric failure?  Let's say its B fabric switch, so I have more access to the SPERCS 1 and, therefore, my virtual disks.  Because everything goes well with SPERCS 1, will my failover of virtual disks to SPERCS 2?

And if anyone knows Hyper-V well enough, say the Mezz B PCIe card fails in one of my M620s, will be VMs on that host failover because they can't reach the CSV more?

    Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

    Mattkane85,

With sharing Perc 8 installed and configured for the fault tolerance, then it will work as you said. Perc cards are configured in an active/passive configuration, so when a Perc fails, the other Perc card takes control, which covers the controller. Now with your question, you asked in the case when a switch fails to will it still tipping? It would also be a Yes. With the active support of Multipath, which is necessary with the Fault Tolerant shared Perc 8 configuration, then uses redundant physical components, such as switches, cables and adapters to create logical paths between the server and the storage device. In the event that one of these components fails, Multipathing logic uses the controller replacing so that applications can still access their data.

You can find more information and details on these configurations here, on page 6.

Let me know if it helps.

  • Upgrade to VCenter 5.1.0 - Consolidation

    Hello

I wonder if someone can guide me in the right direction:

Currently, this is my environment: I have 2 offices/Sites, connected via the WAN.  There is also a small remote site with a host (5 vm) ESXi is not managed by a Vcenter server.

    Site 1

    1 x Vcenter Server 5.0

    4 ESXi hosts 5.0 x

    Site 2

    My questions are:

    • Wouldn't be better to create a new 5.1 Vcenter Server as supposed to upgrade?
    • What would be lost if I do not have an upgrade?  Resource pools?  Switched networks? Etc?
    • The 2nd Vcenter site 2 can serve as a backup/failover
    • How the practice is to have a Vcenter on Wan?
    • What is the difference between data centres and Clusters?  Create a data center and multiple Clusters?  or can I create data centre for each site, then the Cluster under each site?
    • How is consoldating all this affect my license?
    • I can do Storagemotion and Vmotion between Sites if they are in a Vcenter?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    1. The two level or fresh should work properly - depends on whether you want a fresh VC or an upgrade
    2. All configurations of VC would disappear - resource pools/vDS settings/user rights / that are configured manually on VC etc.
    3. N ° you must implement Virtual Center Heartbeat or something to get that to work
    4. As long as the network latency is not that big and all the ports for VC/ESX operations are open, should work
    5. Yet once, is not serious. You can have either a data center, a single cluster and all hosts or center data, two groups or two data centers and two clusters - it is a drawing more desired, implemented
    6. Licenses for VC will change because you'll have a VC-2 - but ESX licenses will not change, because it is based on the sockets
    7. As long as there is no latency of the network and you have a good throughput on the Wan, it should work

  • What hardware/software do I need?

We are looking to do a VMWare installation that would be in ESX3.5 (2) servers and 1 or 2 SAN is our main and then possible site the same configuration on a remote site in another city or State, which would act as a backup/failover site where the primary came down.

Go to the VMWare site, it seems that we want to use VMWare Site Recovery Manager and who would manage the failover to the other site.  Is this correct or am I completely wrong.  What other software do I need?  Would need software to replicate the San at the remote site?  Is there better software to do this with?

The material that we are trying to use is:

    (2) IBM System X 3850 M2 servers at each site and either (1) or (2) SAN on each site.  Someone at - it recommendations for what type of San would be good for the configuration that we want to do.

To use SRM you two with the functionality of replication storage device (for example in EMC CX or AX is called MirrorView).

Note the feature could be an optional component.

You also have a second Victoria Cross.

For small environment, you might also consider alternatives, such as writing scripts to backup/restore or specific products (like Vizioncore vReplicator)

  • Beginner: How to create test env cloning prod?

    Hello Forum...

I posted a similar question to metalink, but I don't think that there are a lot of activity, so excuse me if I bother you guys too.

I inherited an Oracle Lite server and the application that is used in some of the remotest parts of the world. I can't touch the production server, and so I want to recreate the environment (mobile, repository server, application schema, etc) in a separate test environment.
Everyone does it - has created a copy of a production running for testing system? What gotchyas should I look for? I'm particularly nervous about getting the new server to use a copy of a repository already established.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
    j - p.

When you made the clone of the original, you would end up with the patterns of app and identical mobileadmin on two different (probably) of database servers.

As two mobile standards, however, have the same data content, they will perform on the OC4J even. Only MGP can run (the other instances are considered backup/failover) so production it is run and the test would show the process of the Mackenzie Gas Project "on another server" and you tend to get into a loop by clicking on the 'go to the server.

If erase you data from MOBILE_INSTANCES and then restart the mobile service, it will be corrected and re - update the repository data. You should find the data files and config relations described in the guides of the admin.

The clone that had done you, because the changes are not made, was essentially not right, this is why you had problems/confusion. Because it's common, I made the suggestion to start from scratch you did now. To explore the look on the tables in the schema admin mobile. The database is poorly documented (non-existent in many cases), but if you look at the structure of the table and the content, you should begin to have an idea where the information is retained.

The C arrays $ are mainly internal treatment/definition area. CFM$ tables are your queue in detail (c$ in_messages is the header), CMP$ tables make the queue output, DM$ tables are related to the Device Manager, but I would steer clear of it for now. The rest of the tables are internal definitions.

If you got the PGM currently under test, you can also go to the mobile manager and activate the trace MGP (take the option all, save to file and allow 20 files) and this will give you a record of doing the Mackenzie Gas Project (can be very large and it's the execution of java method with sql connections).

Another good way to find your feet is to create a new application in the test environment (follow the manuals) because it helps show how the mobile repository is interfaced with the application database

  • Using RMAN/Flashback to restore or passage / failover to the backup database

    Hello

I'm new on the protection of the data.  I read the documentation and have implemented the Data Guard for my database of test called PPRD.  So I PPRD for the primary database and PPRD_DR0 for sleep.

I've implemented the custody of data with the default, maximum Performance. I'm testing. (That's 11 GR 2.  I also use SQL/RMAN to set everything up.  I can implement Grid Control to administer it.

What I was asking is - as the case may be, are there times where I'm better NOT do a failover to the standby?  Given that the PPRD is in archivelog mode (of course) and we have full and incremental backups archivelogs all being written to the disc, AND my expectation is mode maximum performance... is there times where there was NO data loss by restoring the database and he recovering from RMAN? Indeed, recovery logs are intact, not if the first line of conduct?

Now, obviously if there is some sort of disaster and the primary is destroyed we would failover to our expectation. But for most typical failures, wouldn't we want to use RMAN and the backups/archivelogs as a first course, because there MAY be loss of data with the maximum performance mode? Also, I know there are views, that we can use to see how in sync is the day before, but I'm a little unclear on this.  At the time of a database problem, if we do not have an automatic failover enabled and configured, exactly how can we check how to synchronize the standby is with the primary?  (I know that this response is common and there, I don't want to ask the obvious question.)

Since I was in archivelog and flashback as well on mode the primary... If the primary is still intact (but has a problem) I use RMAN, flashback, etc. before making failover/switching in high school?

    Thank you for any response.

    Hello;

Yes. For me, a failover is a last resort. Ask yourself a few questions:

My company requires an availability of 100%?

How long the principal will be not not available?

How long and how to recover from failover?

I can make a move to the place?

Each year we turn off the room of servers for a weekend. What I do, it is a failover, then a switch after the old primary appears as the day before and catch up.

Here are my notes of failover test:

  • Failover of backup of CARS

We have the Oracle 11 g 2 RAC database on both nodes. We also have an RMAN backup script that works very well, using a recovery catalog database located in a city of 20 km from the center of data. The script for the backup of the database works very well and is started from crontab job or from Oracle dbconsole (because he now works for crontab). A recovery procedure is checked and everything works fine.

The problem is that the script runs from the first node in the cluster, and if the node is disabled, the backup can be run. How can we ensure that our script have a backup version of failover. We also tried to make the backup on dbconsole, but this only works if the node from which to start work began.

Essentially, the question is 'how to make sure that our backup jobs, if two nodes are active or not'

Do not use clusterware nodes to start the backup. You can use the host from the recovery catalog database located in a town 20km.

Move all the rman scripts to host of the recovery catalog and configure scripts in crontab from home from the recovery catalog. The RMAN works as a client, that only the backup is always performed server-side.

Create a Service of RAC with RMAN to connect (for example, RMAN_BACKUP). The service must run on nodes 1 FCAC, but is capable of running on the node 2 or 3, if 1 nodes are not available. (If you are using the default name of the RAC service (database name) and you use parallelism the RMAN can start a session in each node and backup to be performed by all nodes at the same time, this isn't a problem, but you may have some performance issues on your environment). Because I recommend you to create a Service.

    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/E11882_01/RAC.112/e16795/hafeats.htm

Configure a network service name using the local naming method on host of the recovery catalog.

If you do SCAN function above, otherwise put all host VIP on address names.

    for example:

    RMAN_BACKUP =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node-scan.oracle.com)(PORT = 1521))
         (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVER = DEDICATED)
          (SERVICE_NAME = RMAN_BACKUP)
        )
      )

Regardless of the node that is active your backup will be started if a node is active

This will work only if you perform an online backup. I hope so.

  • Failover?

We have two of the ReadyNAS 516 on the same local network. We replace a Windows 2008 Server.

We want to have the primary NAS for storage and the 2nd as a backup (really as a failover - and we know it will be manual).

How can quickly raise us the 2nd unit as principal in the case of a total absence of the primary?

We have Setup with ReadyNAS Replicate, but it sounds like a backup and the restore process takes some time.

We have created this using RSYNC for each action to be run automatically every hour. If the head nurse fails and is no longer on the network, we substitute the same name as the primary name and restart.

User accounts and passwords do not have to be restored.

Once the secondary NAS runs with the name of the principal, the users can connect by using the same mappings. If the password is different, they will have to connect again.

We should not change the IP address. Just be care when if you mention the original SIN that the two devices is not the same name.

  • Replication Failover clustering & Hyper-v on a two-node cluster

    Hello

We have two identical servers.  One to use as a main server, which houses two virtual machines.  The other should be used as a back up in case the main server is not somehow.  We planned on using a solution of third-party software to back up our virtual machines and launch them in the event of failure of the principal server.  However, we discovered just gave the failover clustering in Windows Server R2 2012.

We have tried to set up a cluster 2 nodes, with our virtual machines properly replicated to the backup server.  Excited by the present, we tried then to simulate failure of the primary server (by pulling on the cable network).  We were a little disappointed to find that the backup server is not automatically run virtual machines.  We did a survey and read than a solution of two nodes requires storage space for additional network (in addition to our two servers).

I wonder if that's okay?  In other words, a two-node failover cluster requires separate network storage space.  If this is not correct, can someone point me to a set of instructions to correctly configure a two-node failover cluster that will automatically launch the virtual machines on the server backup (in the case of a failure of the principal server).

    Someone help here?

Julian, my problem is very similar, though different because I use Veeam.  Here is what I posted on the forums of Veeam - if all goes well, it will help you

Looks like the solution is to uninstall the 'SmVssProvider' who, when running "vssadmin list providers", is listed as:

    The provider name: "SmVssProvider."

    Provider type: hardware

    Provider ID: {24e4e8a3-69cb-4370-8b7b-c5276cd49765}

    Version: 10.84.02

This service is launching the premium add-on snapshot service that you can buy for the MD by Dell line. If you do not buy it, you don't need this provider. (for as far as I understand it at least)

To uninstall this provider, navigate to the folder in the folder storage uninstall VDS - VSS MD. By default, it is at:

C:\Program Files (x 86) \Dell\MD Storage Software\VDS_VSS\Uninstall Modular Disk Storage Hardware Provider (* BE CAREFUL here and double check your path.) There is more than one with a similar path and name.* uninstall program)

Once inside this folder, run the "uninstall modular disk storage hardware Provider.exe.

Note that the uninstall program is very rudimentary - there is no GUI or confirmation that it's over. The file and the service will simply disappear.

This will remove the "SmVssProvider" and the corresponding Windows services:

'Modular disk storage hardware provider' (SMPROVIDER1. EXE - identical to SmProv ~ 1.exe).

In my case, service of 'Modular disk storage hardware provider' has been set to start "Automatic", although it did not work, so I was unable to uninstall the provider without stopping I/O or disruption to my VMs. There is no restart request either. Although YMMV so proceed with caution.
