Hi LovingMN,

· What is the full error message that you receive?

· What type of backup you make?

· Are there data saved on the external hard drive?

Change the attributes of the file. You can check the link for the steps below: how to set, view, change, or remove special permissions for files and folders in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308419

This can also be caused by the destination drive. If there is no data saved on the external hard drive, you can format the drive and then try to save and check the results.

  • Can I restore my laptop hard drive files that have been moved to my external hard drive (who subsequentally has stopped working)?

I cut and pasted and then a few important files from my laptop on an external hard drive. Since the external hard drive stopped working. Is it possible to find the files that have been moved?

    Thank you!

(More info: I tried to recover the files from external hard disk but it requires a physical recovery and would cost over $ 1000, which I did not; also unfortunately I don't think I created backup via the "backup and Restore Center" files in the control panel).

It depends on how long you have moved the files, and how the computer has been used since.

If you have Vista Business, Ultimate or enterprise, you can use the previous versions.

You must find the catalog that LR has worked with before you change computers.

You see, LR cannot 'see' image files that are on a hard drive, unless you have the catalog to go with these images.

For LR to work, you must always two things: the image files and the catalog (and your previews).

So where is the catalogue? Best way to go about this would be:

Connect the external hard drive to your old computer and open LR. Go to Edition > catalog settings > general Tab. Select "every time I left LR'.

Close LR and the backup dialog box will appear that allows you to choose a save location. Select your external hard drive as the location.

When LR finished the backup, connect the external hard drive to your new computer. In your operating system, go to the backup location and double-click the file with the ending "lrcat.

LR opens with this catalogue, and if you have not changed the location and/or the name of your image files or picture files he will find the images.

PS: Make sure that the external hard drive on the new computer has the same letter drive, as it had on the old computer. If it does not have the following:

In the Libarary Module, you should see question marks in addition to your files. Right click on the folder that is higher in the hierarchy and point LR to the location of this folder on your hard drive.

I'll put in my computer at the store to have the battery changed and to back up my computer. I also fear that I manually back up aka. copy and paste all the files, things like iTunes or Photo Booth will not read data from the library when 'restored' aka. copy and paste again and so I have to start over. What should I do?

    Hi Ron,

Don't you see the external hard drive listed in Device Manager?

You can also check if the hard drive is listed in disk management.

    a. click the Start button > Control Panel > system and security > administrative tools.

    b. double-click on computer management.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (c) in the left pane, under storage, click Disk Management.

  • RAW files missing changes after moving to an external hard drive

Hi, I use lightroom 4 and I cleaned a part of my images on my laptop and then exported in JPEG files. My hard drive has started to fill up, so I moved all my files on raw on an external hard drive but now when I come back to make adjustments to these images it tells me that the file is missing. How the raw return file so that it shows the changes I made?

The changes should have been stored in the catalog file or in an XMP Sidecar file. Also moved the XMP Sidecar files. These XMP files can be marked as system files in OS X, and unless you have show system files (which, with OS X for that option and turn it you may need to use Terminal), and or display all files, Finder can hide on your part.

LR 5.7 cannot find my files already edited because I accidentally deleted them. I have original and exported raw files edited JPEG images on an external hard drive. How to get back on LR the possibility to repeat already published photos complete with a history of editing? Thank you.

Thank you Joe Maniac.  I deleted the original linked files on my internal hard drive which were dng files, but had copies of the raw files edited and edited the exported raw files (in JPEG format).  I don't have copies of dng files.  So what I ended up having to do was import the original raw files which then made a DNG copy on my internal hard drive.  The link has not changed, but now the files were back in the original track for missing photo alerts disappeared and I was able to see my change history.  The process has been painful, but without the dng, I had nothing to do a link to more if at least re-import them files has recreated the dng.  I don't know if there was an easier way, but it seemed that the problem did not the link deletion.  I use LR for a few years, but it was a rookie mistake, precipitated by my hard drive being so jammed up I ended up delete what I shouldn't.  I should have just moved the dng and the link to an external hard drive. Thanks again.

BCM42RLY is a broadcom driver. I suggest that you uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

  • How long should it take a backup of your laptop (windows Vista) on an external hard drive (Lots if free space.

I'm writing this, it took well over 30 mins so far and it's not even halfway through the.

    Hello Stephen Murphy,

It really depends on what you save. Small files shouldn't take more than a few minutes (or seconds), plus large (1 GB for example) files may take 4 or 5 minutes or a bit longer.

If you back up your entire drive you might be looking at hours for backup.

Another problem, of course, is the speed of the USB connection on the external drive. 1 USB, for example will be much slower that USB 2 and USB 2 will be slower than the USB 3.

In many cases, it is necessary to "play the game of waiting" until the data transfer is completed.

  • Can't restore Vista backup - backup zip files are not recognized, on external hard drive

I backed up my files with Windows Backup, which divide into 200 MB zip files.  Now I am unable to restore the backup because it is not recognized when I try to use the backup to restore.  It's on an external hard drive and Windows for some reason any do not recognize.  I tried to move it to the desktop, but it is not always recognized as a backup.  I tried to use the advanced restore, windows recovery, and it won't work.  Must the file with the zip files be in a specific location on the disk so that it can be recognized, or should it be named something specific?  Please help me, I really need these files.

  • With the help of a backup on an external hard drive to transfer files to a new computer.

I recently got a new computer and I need to transfer my files via my new computer. Both computers running Windows 7. I have an external hard drive that has all my files from my old computer on it. I went into the control panel configuration, then system and security, and then in the backup and restore. I then clicked on "select another backup to restore files from" and looked for my external drive. I made sure that it was connected and up-to-date as well. However, he never showed up.

I would like to manually just transfer the files, but it seems as if there are readers split on this computer for 'BONES' and 'DATA '. For this reason, I'm not sure which car I'd put even files on.

How can I transfer these files?

    Hello

I understand that you are having problems with the restoration of the backup files of the external hard drive. Correct me if I misunderstood the question.

    (1) what is the version of Windows 7 is installed on your computer?

    (2) have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    (3) you receive an error message when you try to restore?

I suggest you to consult and follow the steps in the links and check if the problem persists.

  • Backup on external hard drive problems...

I can't backup to external hard drive, it starts and does not say "Device not ready" then I tried to back up my laptop outside even hard without any problem. Could it be, if I tried a different USB port on my desktop external hard disk... Any other ideas please...

    Concerning

Have you tried another USB port (your post is unclear)?

The external hard drive has its own power supply or just connect with a USB cable?  If there is no separate power supply, disconnect all other USB devices (except keyboard and mouse) and see if that helps.

The external drive shows in my computer?  If so, what happens when you double-click it?

Don't show external drive in disk management (start > run > diskmgmt.msc > OK)?  If so, a drive letter is assigned? If so, what is reported to the layout, Type, file system and status?

Only the external drive shows in Device Manager (start > run > devmgmt.msc > OK) to the title of "hard disks"?  If Yes, what is displayed when you double-click on and look at 'Device status' and 'Use of the device' in the general tab?

I did a windows image backup of my Vista system on a Seagate external hard drive. Now I want to restore my system from the backup, but restore in control panel procedures does not recognize the files. Version of Vista professional, Service Pack 2. I tried Virtual PC, and vhd mounting procedures.

    Hello

read this tutorial on how to do

To restore a full backup of the computer, you must proceed within the Windows recovery environment. To access the Windows recovery environment, you will need to insert your Vista DVD in the DVD drive on your computer and turn on your computer. The computer starts and you see the BIOS lists the hardware on your computer, and other information. When this information has been disabled, your computer will see that a bootable DVD is inserted and present a prompt similar to the Figure 1 below.

    etc.
