backup my computer

Hi, my computer is on its way... I would like to know how can I copy my essential before he goes... I searched my help files and can't find how to back up my computer. Thanks in advance!

The fastest and easiest is to simply copy your data files (documents, photos, music, e-mail) for an external hard drive or USB key with sufficient capacity to hold the data. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

After saving my laptop husbands with my new 2 TB external hard drive, I tried saving my laptop.

Hey, I'm sorry for the delay. Make sure you have backups of the data before making experiences.
It depends really what features chose you for backup. Usually software backup verify the current files and update, but they also can completely replace the existing or create a new backup.
The antivirus program should not be a problem during a backup operation.

  • Placement of file icons after backup on computer Win 7 home

My computer crashed.  Fortunately, I had it backed up and pretty much all that appeared in a folder on the desktop on top of another computer with Windows 7 that I reformatted.  I would like to move the icons in the computer and on the desktop.  I don't know where to put them.  I can't remember where they are.  They are the icons I have come down from the internet and used on the old computer.  Any suggestions?

    Thank you

    Carol

My best memory of the icons is that I found them on various online sites.  They were not program files.  I have in fact change an icon on the desktop through properties > change icon > search.  I opened the desktop folder and they are usable with the exception of a single folder.  So you're saying I can just move in documents that are not program files.  I think that when I move, I'll lose the one I changed because the path will be changed.  I was very happy to see that most of them arrived with the backup to put it on the new computer.  I had a few favorites I've used and have now looked through them all and see more fun that I can use.

Thank you both for your responses to help me finish my food!

    Rob

DVD are not the most suitable support for a backup of the computer because they can become illegible from scratches, dust, dirt, etc.  Add to that you would probably need 40 or more dvd is a much better idea to buy an external usb and backup to that.

I have IMAC 21.5 10.7.5 2011: 1) is - it really worth upgrading to El Capitan? (2) do I need to backup before the upgrade?

Yes. You must back up before any important upgrade on your Mac.

Honestly, you should have a valid and test the implementation of the backup plan at any time. Losing data are a certainty, the only question is when it will happen.

  • HP backup on computer

Upgrading to Windows 7 from vista. I can crush the HP of Vista backup for Win 7 backup?  Do I have to reformat the partition?

Mangomama wrote: upgrade to Windows 7 from vista. I can crush the HP of Vista backup for Win 7 backup?  Do I have to reformat the partition?

Hello Mangomama, sorry to say that can't be done. The HP Recovery Restore partition can not be changed in any way and always serve later.

If you want to or need to partition D: factory with Vista and all your other software preloaded, you can delete this partition and recover the capacity of this partition.

If you have the game to restore HP Recovery disks, you can remove this partition and at a later time you ever wanted to put the system back as it was during the expedition, you could use the game of disc HP Recovery restore and restore the system to factory State.

  • The wife and I have 2 iphones on the same backup mac computer / same itunes account and we have both got new iphone 7, her photos pop up fine for the restoration, my phone got all his own

So under my account itunes on our desktop mac, my wife saved his phone as well.

Today, we got the new iphone 7 s (and both save them on pc mac before we are gone and got the new), when we came back she hers in plugged into the mac PC first and she very well restored.

When I tried to restore mine, all but the properly restored images.

All his images restored on my phone, how can I fix this?

    ---

Both are full of photos are in the title of the photos on my PC mac app.  They are separated and in a section mixed with each other, but still on the application of a single picture on our Mac... but that means I know all his and my photos are not all here which is good.

So how I get off my iphone with its photos and all of mine on my iphone?  A sort of thing copy and paste?  Look forward to answers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • How can I restore passwords from backup in the computer?

Recently I have backup my computer factory quite a reset. When I restored it all he did not return the registered mozilla bookmarks or passwords. I was able to find and restore bookmarks but have not been able to restore passwords. I am looking for a solution to find and store, copy or print the list of passwords in the backup copy.

    Thank you

You can only access the passwords stored in signons.sqlite if you have the correct signons3.txt file that stores the encryption key to decrypt the names and passwords.
If copy the two files in the current Firefox profile folder does not work then you will have a file signons3.txt evil.

Make sure that you have copied both files to the correct location with Firefox closed.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Flash drive/computer backup

Is it possible to backup my computer using a USB Flash drive?  He then, what the drive size (GB) flash do I need? I haqve DVD and use those to before, but I prefer to use a flashdrive (if possible).

    1. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Back-up-and-restore-frequently-asked-questions

    2. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Methods-for-backing-up-your-files

    Get an external hard drive.

If you want only to back up individual files etc., then by all means use a flash drive for your personal files. If you want the image to your hard drive, then get an external hard drive.

Regarding how large a flash drive, depends how big are the files you want to back up.

  • How much memory is used for the backup of a computer?

I use a 500 GB external hard drive to back up my PC regularly. Drive hard internal of my PC is currently using about 100 GB of storage, but when I check my external HD it has used about 450 GB. Why are there so much data on my external hard drive if I only use it to backup my computer system? Should it not be about the same amount of data in the two?

It depends on the software used for this backup.  Software backup can be put in place to keep a certain number of copies files, or images, it discusses the backup.

  • Problem of backup drive Seagate

I have an iMac that fails to perform backups time machine, constantly in error-36 on several files in the journal and then ending by mistake-11. I got around this by using Data Rescue IV to copy all the contents of the disc to 2 TB backup drive Seagate Plus. During this process, I got a warning of Data Rescue saying me that slow read access has been detected from the internal drive and it was a sign of a failing drive. The time estimates would go in all directions, ranging from a few hours, thousands of days! Finally, after about a day, the backup was complete. However, when I tried to use this disk to restore a backup, the program "restore from backup" in the recovery partition was told that no backup not found on the disk. I even tried to rename and add folders so that the path of the folder on the Seagate drive looked like this: /Backups.backupdb/Computer name of the name/2016-06-18-214653/Disk Partition. Remember that I did not use time machine to back this up, I arranged everything simply the folder saved in other folders so that the path can trick the computer into thinking it as a backup in time real-machine, but it did not work. Is there a way I can use this Rescue IV data backup to restore the computer by using the recovery (command-R on startup) partition?

There are several possible reasons for the mistakes of TM backup that you met. They could be resolved by trying a different port on your iMac, disabling potentially conflicting software (garbage "anti-virus" useless example), using disk utility to 'fix' the volume of the source, reinstall OS X (assuming that it has become corrupted for some reason, the common result of 'cleaning up' apps) and other possible, although perhaps temporary solutions. If you are motivated to explore these options you can still.

The hierarchy of the Time Machine backup volume file is likely to be very different from that created by Seagate software, so I doubt it. The RP provides an option to restore from a Time Machine backup, and you will not be able to fool it by restoring a backup created by something else.

You are much more likely to succeed by copying the files manually backup volume, after having replaced the faulty internal drive with a new one. If Seagate program, all the files should be present, you just have to find them.

In the absence of other options, I would try to create a backup, redundant or "clone" of the source volume defective before doing something more. At the present time, you work with a reliable likely source of defective with no recognized backup of it.
