  There are two types of Wifi network, the Infrastructure being the other type and ad hoc, you are referring to. While it is possible to connect two computers together in an ad-hoc Wifi type looks like the printer works with a type of Wireless Network Infrastructure. A Network Infrastructure needs to a central controller for example a WiFi base station.

  If both Macs have only Wifi connections and no Ethernet connection, it is possible to link them together in an ad-hoc configuration, it seems that in order to get one of the Mac to act as a controller that is operating in Infrastructure mode, I think that you need to be connected to a network via Ethernet, can be configured to 'share' this Ethernet to Wifi connection.   Another approach to consider connects to the printer via USB to one of the Mac and then share the printer from the Mac. The second Mac would then be able to print to the printer via the Mac. It should work even with the two Mac computers via an installer of the adhoc Wifi.

  With Docking Station, you can connect all the cables for printer, keyboard and mouse, adapter directly to the charging station.

  So whenever you use a laptop, you have just dock the laptop on the docking station and not need to re connect all cables again.

  Your printer needs to have an ethernet port in the back, where you can connect a LAN cable. You will need to connect a LAN cable to a free port on your current modem on the back of the printer - this should establish an internet connection.
