Bad speed of wireless internet on EA4500

Hello everyone. I have an ea4500 wireless router, I tested the speed at speedtest.net and wireless, I get around 9 Mbit/s. My speed is 23 MB/s when I hard wired the pc.

I check the speed on a Tablet (), pc and a mac about 5 feet away from the router with no walls or something between the two devices.

I checked all the settings, but I don't see anything wrong, I've changed to N mode just to make sure that I use the top speed.

All my devices are able to use N.

My experience on this is not good and that's why I ask your help, thanks a lot.

Redefine the Mode Wireless on joint. 2.4 GHz settings, change the width of the channel to 20 MHz only and select a specific channel. Recommended channel would be 1, 6 or 11. Download inSSIDer to find out which channel is not too crowded. Follow the link provided by jlbjlb.

Another thing that could affect the wireless connection is the location of the router. Make sure that it is on an open and superior location. Make sure it is not next to a metal object or other device which transmits/receives/frequency of the wireless signal. Also, make sure that it is not too close to your modem.

    Hello Paul,

See the Microsoft article and look at step 6: "Change your wireless channel"
You will need to connect to your router and change the wireless channel that it operates on.
There may be interference affecting your computer, but not your wife.
If you need assistance to change the settings of the router, you will need to contact your router manufacturer or your internet service provider.
  • My wireless laptop have double the speed of the internet than my Wired desktop pc

I just bought the Linksys E2000 and configure properly with a single office (wired connection), adapter of a phone (wired connection) and two laptops (both connected wireless).  Everything works very well - the phone works and all computers can access the internet.  However, every one of my laptops get a speed of 25 to 30 Mbps but my office (which even once, is connected by ethernet cable to the router) is only to get a speed of less than 15 Mbps.  That's nearly half the speed of laptop computers.  When the office is directly connected to the modem, it gets the same speed than laptops, about 25-30 Mbps.  If the router is somehow reducing the speed of the internet from my office by about 50%.  If a wired connection still should not be faster than a wireless?

I chat and talked with Linksys on 5 customer support representatives, tried all the settings, they have suggested, re-installed the software, but none of them could find an answer.  One of them acknowledged that this is not normal and suggested a return to the store and return the router to another.  I'm not changing it and exactly the same thing is happening then it is probably not a hardware problem.  It is a setting that needs to be configured or this router simply gives slower speeds for wired devices.  I hope it's something that I can configure.  Can anyone suggest anything?  Everyone knows this?

I just bought the Linksys router E4200 today (the new router Linksys from this date).  I tested it on my computers without changing anything (except of course re - install the new CD of Cisco Connect).  This time, my office is at normal speed (25-30 Mbps) and my laptops were still a bit faster than before.  It's certainly better that way.  It was certainly the router, something in the E2000 was slowing down the wired connection to my office at 50% of what it was supposed to be.

Note that I could have lived with the reduction in speed in my office who was originally the E2000.  15 Mbps is always suitable speed for most of the tasks of the internet.  I understand that it is a long-term feature that I use for many years.  So, I would prefer that there are no glitches at first.  My router Linksys previous lasted me 10 years and could still running even longer.  Its technology of 2001 all new computers support I have had over the years and also a VoIP phone adapter and served fine as a mobile Wi - Fi Blackberry and Droid hotspot.  So I'm looking forward to using it again for just as long if all goes well.

Moreover, the E4200 was not easy to find.  From this date, Amazon.com and Bestbuy.com do it have yet because it's so new.  Electronic no Fry did.  I got the chance to find it in a Best Buy store without an appointment.  No other Best Buy store that was in my area, this alone (maybe they are the first in my area).  I paid $149 plus tax (compared to $69 more taxes for the E2000).  After reading all the comments on this subject and my own experience, for me, it is definitely worth paying the extra for it.

  • SOLVED: Slow wireless internet passthrough after firmware update

If I first bought a Nighthawk in July 2014 and it was great for a while. Then in the notice happened a few months my streaming services are jumping and more than usual buffering (which was almost never with the Nighthawk).

I have a connection of 110Mbps (Comcast and through a SB6141 modem), but all of a sudden was only getting 10 Mbps (or less) passthrough on 5 G wireless band (at the beginning of the speed test would sometimes up to 50 Mbit/s, but on a few seconds would fall to nothing..)

Cable speeds were very good. Always 110Mbps +. Tried several different channels and factory reset the router, wireless speed was still slow. Connected to the Netgear website and submitted a support ticket within 2 hours they sent me with an RMA number and the next day a new unit has been FedEx would be for me. Support rep Tech says it's a problem of material known in some units... I was super impressed with the customer service, it was seriously a no replacement of hassles that took every 15 minutes of my time.

EXCEPT when I got the replacement router in the next few days, he had the SAME PROBLEM. As soon as the new router is on and I'm connected, I've upgraded to the latest version of the firmware, done a factory reset and down Speedtest. And I had the same problem: speed internet passthrough on all my wireless devices has been terrible. Less than 10 Mbps when I have a connection 110 + Mbps. (Wired speeds were great, it was not a problem of modem or provider).

Again contacted support and they asked me to download the latest firmware on laptop and upgrade the router manually, do a factory reset before and after the upgrade. They also told me to try to disable WMM (made no difference speed passthrough, but lower my laptop connection between 433Mbps to 54Mbps speed!).

I tried this... still slow passthough wireless speed.

The only thing that has changed since I first got a Nighthawk in July 2014 (and I've run speedtests then and had a speed 110 wireless + Mbit/s at the time), is that the firmware has updated several times... makes me think...

I downloaded the Netgear support the past 5 versions of the firmware for the Nighthawk. http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/product/R7000#sear...

I then manually downgraded the Nighthawk to each previous version (do a factory reset before and after each installation) and ran Speedtest every time. Once I have got down to the R7000 Version - V1.0.3.24_1.1.20 (released 12/02/14) and ran a Speedtest, the PROBLEM has BEEN RESOLVED. Speed wireless devices (laptop, HTC a M7 and iPad Air 2) were all back up to 110Mbps or more!

Hope this experience helps someone else... If your are affected by the passthrough slow internet speeds and it is not your connection speed (i.e. radio parasites) that is the question, there seems to be a serious problem with the latest latest versions of couple... Try downgrading to the R7000 firmware version - V1.0.3.24_1.1.20

UPDATE: Yes, I actually tested the speed with several different devices (a laptop HP HTC a M7 and Nexus 9) each on 5G band, all compatible with the latest updates ac. I also used a few test sites of different speed (speedtest.net, comcast speedtest, cnet speed test), not had the same result all devices and hosts.

However, I actually got in touch with Netgear L2 support for the last month... beta test a few different versions of the firmware of the Nighthawk and even spend more than an hour on the phone one night with a nice guy who told me he was on an island in Southeast Asia, part of the Philippines... This is where Netgear technical support is to halfway between China where they build them and Taiwan where engineers are. After trying all tweak he could think for an hour and not get better speeds wireless, he finally dropped out and wished me a Merry Christmas lol. Not one of these beta firmware made a bit of difference, and I hate the hours that they made me screwing around with them!

    BUT today, they released vR7000 - V1.0.4.14_1.1.50 http://support.netgear.com/product/r7000

And to my surprise it actually worked! Not only my high speed wireless is returned (120 + Mbps)

    http://www.Speedtest.NET/my-result/4078979293 (laptop)
    http://www.Speedtest.NET/my-result/a/1131321713 (nexus 9)
    http://www.Speedtest.NET/my-result/a/1131332778 (htc a m7)

but also my Seagate SRD0SD0 previously incompatible (3 TB) USB 3.0 external hard drive works now, too. What a bonus! The reason I bought the Nighthawk was to use as Server DLNA and the monster external HD I picked up 6 months ago only was on the long list of those incompatible with this capricious router.

But now everything works (at least for now).

P.S. Maybe it's in my head, but I swear to you that since the last firmware update when running speedtest now or file transfer (while heavy streaming) I can hear the router doing a greater slope electric buzzing/hissing noise is a little disconcerting... I'm not sure my brain fried by overclocked wifi will be worth a high speed in the end...: eek:

  • speed up your internet connection in Windows 8

I've seen a lot of messages that mention users notice a slow internet connection more after moving to Windows 8 for the wired connections and wireless.

Many of these problems are due to drivers still set up for network cards.  However, there are a little more at stake.  Windows 8 has many built-in features that use internet connection permanently.  Specifically, I am referring to many of the 'live' on Metro user interface applications.  These include things like pulling photos from Facebook, update of headlines and weather updates.  To account for these features Microsoft allows Windows to reserve a percentage of bandwidth for these features.

It is less noticeable on connections faster broadband, but can be significant on slower connections.  Here are some things you can try to speed up the connection.

1 make sure you have the correct driver installed.

HP plans to support most of the laptops purchased after October 1, 2011.  You can check to see if HP has tested your laptop with Windows 8 by visiting this Web site.

Currently, many hardware manufacturers have drivers available.  However, the first step is to check that it is not a specific driver available for your laptop computer network hardware.  You will need to follow the following instructions locate the number for your product.  After your head number product on HP's Support site and see if there are all the drivers available.  If so, install the appropriate driver.  If this is not the case, bookmark the page and check back regularly for updates.

    2. turn off or lower the amount of reserved bandwidth.

As stated previously, Windows 8 automatically reserves a percentage of bandwidth for use with 'live' on Metro user interface applications.  First of all, you want to access the "Run" dialog box... ».  You can do this in the office or the metro by pressing Windows + X key combination and selecting 'run '.  You can type "gpedit.msc" and press ENTER.  On the left side, you will see "Configuration of the computer;" expand this list by clicking the arrow to the left.  Once this section is expanded you can select and expand "Administrative Templates" section, and then expand the "Network" section  Finally, you will see an entry called "QoS Packet" schedular, select this option.   After you select the QoS Packet Scheduler, you will see that the main part of the window has been set.  You will want to select "bookable bandwidth limit.    You can either reduce the percentage that is reserved or turn it off completely from here.  This should help speed up the internet connection.

I hope this information is useful!

  • Need help with the wireless internet Power Book G4

Hi-I recently inherited a Power Book G4.  I have problems to connect to wireless internet.  According to the Profiler systems, it has an AirPort Extreme card, but there is no icon on the screen wireless.  Advice to connect would be appreciated!

    Thank you-

    Stephanie

The icon in the menu bar can be hidden or displayed.  The setting is the system network preferences pane.  Where it says display, select AirPort.  There is a checkbox for the State of AirPort show the menu bar.  Since the AirPort icon in the menu bar, you can select the a local wireless network to join.

This pane of system preferences, you can use the more specific configuration settings, although the default settings work often unless you use special parameters with your wireless router.

AirPort Extreme Card maybe for 802.11b and gand not n.  If your wireless network is configured for 802.11n only, you will need to change this setting to allow to 802.11 g (on the wireless router).

  • No wireless internet with Windows XP

    Hello everyone,

I installed Windows XP SP2 on a Toshiba Satellite 300 originally shipped with Vista. I installed the drivers I found on the Web site, including the update of the BIOS that made me screw up everything and me forced to restart from the beginning. There the 2nd time I avoided the update of the BIOS and everything seems to work fine, except that I can not connect to wireless internet.

My suspicion is that I might have missed something. So I would know how you usually do to make a wireless connection. If someone could describe the procedure, it would be a great help.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mario

Have you updated the WLAN driver?
You can find it on the Toshiba site or portal driver WLAN:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/WLAN/

    And you see your router?
You should maybe reboot and disable the security features.

    Hello
I have an annoying problem. IM losing my connection wireless internet access after a few minutes is not active... Well not according to the 'doctor' program - it shows no signs of a problem.

Looking at the 'LAN' icon, I see he's trying to connect when I ask, for example, an update on the current site, but simply not turn on the blue bar.

The only cure to get online is to update the connection.

    What I'm doing wrong here?

    Thanks in advance... Jens

    Hello Jens

Please check the option sign-out after x... on your router. The sign-out feature is used to disconnect the router from your ISP automatically when there is no activity for a certain period of time. For example, place a check mark next to this option and enter 5 in the minute field will cause the router to disconnect from the Internet after 5 minutes of no activity from the Internet. This option should be used if you pay for your Internet service by the minute.

  • Compaq Presario CQ56 - :(wireless Internet problem

    Hey everybody,

So I just joined here to see if anyone can help with my problem, because frankly, I'm out of options now about two weeks asking friends and colleagues and searching the Internet for answers to similar problems. I tried twice with the information I found on this site for quite some time and it does not work for me!

In any case, I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop. It has been implemented correctly when I bought it, everything worked perfectly. I managed to catch a virus that prevented me from even turn on my computer (which is strange, because I'm not a fool with computers, and I know what not to do/download sites to visit), so I had to restart my computer to stock, I used my Windows 7 disc, partitions formatted and installed windows again.

Now, for some reason it doesn't connects wireless Internet. It connects when I have an ethernet cable connected, but it is not all networks, as shown in this screenshot:

(And also here's a cute Bunny for your pleasure)

So you see my problem it is very frustrating. I don't know what is the cause, but I guess it must be a driver problem? Which is why I write here, if this is indeed in the wrong section, please accept my apologies.

Here is an another screenshots that can help, just in case:

If someone could shed some light on the problem for me, or even to resolve, I'd be very grateful it is extremely annoying. As I said, it works fine when I have my laptop connected to the internet, when I'm in College, but when I come on a weekend, I can't put my laptop, because I only WiFi at home.

    Thanks for reading

  • HP Pavilion g6 - 2288ca - Wireless internet continually fall

    Hello

Approximately nine to ten months of passes, I bought a laptop HP Pavilion g6 - 2288ca, C2N59UAR product number, Windows 8. Recently I had questions where wireless internet will fall without warning. I have already established that the problem is not with my router or your ISP, so I can only assume that there is a problem with my adapter wireless, either hardware or software-related. Usually, I can connect to my internet at home without any problems. However, as I said, the internet has declined suddenly on my computer when it can be demonstrated to work well on other computers and devices connected to the internet in my house. Now, the thing runs the resolution of problems and you reboot my adapter wireless usually does the trick. Unfortunately, it is often a temporary solution, while the connection is usually immediately after a few minutes. I tried to manually update my drivers, but which seems to have been unsuccessful. In addition, the rate at which it falls seems completely random. Sometimes I'll reset my adapter and it'll work for the next six hours, and sometimes I'll reset and he drops in thirty seconds.

Does anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this? These problems have not appeared until recently, and at this point, I am considering just do a system restore.

    Hello:

If your laptop is unfortunately Ralink wireless adapter, this is a common problem with this card.

You can try to update the driver, but most of the time that it does not help.
