Basic necessary for SSD + HDD Setup assistance

Hello

I know that this topic probably has to be put to death, but more I'm looking more confused I get.  I'm a total noob to the time modern PC s Please treat me like a fool in this regard :)

I get a new rig built for me, especially for games. It includes Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit, an SSD 120 GB drive (which will be installed with OS startup disk) and a 1 TB WD Black HDD.  I intend to put some games on the SSD and everything else on the disk drive HARD (music, movies, documents, other games, etc etc).  Of course I have not yet, but basically I'm trying to anticipate the inevitable backups and partitioning issue when I get back to the computer.

I understand that following the instructions on the installation of Win 7 with regard to the choice of the backup drives and create partitions etc should be simple enough.  What I am unclear of is as follows:

To create a partition on my SSD and HARD drive?  If so the size should be partitions for each?

* When creating partitions for backup, should there be that a single backup partition and this partition should be large enough to hold the combined SSD and HDD data or are they mainly just for backup OS and important documents?  I saw a tutorial here on how to include more than one disk in the backup process, so I think I can handle this quite well if necessary.  Of course, I'm hoping to have the backup partition on the HARD drive has a lot more space for him.

* Is there an advantage in the creation of partitions/disks for specific things (one for the games, one for multimedia, documents, etc.) or is it OK to lump most of it in a player?

One of my main concerns is the right balance with regard to the partition backup size/quantity: I don't want to put too much memory for what could possibly leave me short, nor do I want to find my backup partition/s are not large enough to hold whatever it takes.

I will leave that for the moment, thanks in advance for your patience.  As I said, I checked these forums for the info I get but I just more confused and end with more questions than answers accordingly.

Through the information provided in the links. This will permanently delete your doubts

SSDS all have sons the same size and holes threaded on the bottom and sides.  They all use the same fine metric threads live short (short, so they don't lower).  These screws must come with the adapter, and I live in general using the lateral holes.  Parts of the adapter have threaded, 3 holes and you will use the back ahead and away from those for channels of the drive Bay.  If you look at each side of a standard 3.5 "HDD, you will see the same same spacing holes.

Some jobs need the SSD to shift to the left so the orientation of the SSD SATA power and data ports match exactly where they would be if the current drive was a 3.5 "HARD drive clutter.  An example is the drive in a Z620 of drawers which accept 3.5 form factor devices "and slides of drawers in the deep part of the case and automatically mesh with ports of power/data SATA back inside.

Jobs that fuel just a loose cable and the data cable for the SSD is really doesn't matter much if the SSD is an adapter which keeps it more centered or offset to the left.  I've seen cases where a disk HARD 3.5 "given in the lower Bay and a centered SSD is in the upper drive Bay and there was nearly not enough cable length to reach easily shifted left for drives staggered in the Center.  You can see in the photo below that the Garland of feeding on the HARD drive has two unused SATA power below connectors, and there is not a lot of room between them.

The card you chose seems good... solid metal.  For the HP 8200 Elite CMT I have access to screws 4 total special 6-32 UNC silver HP threaded screw threaded back ahead and away from the screw holes on both sides of the adapter, and then you use the extraordinary end threads metric short screws mentioned above to fix the SSD to the adapter, as shown in the pictures of Amazon.  These HP silver screw 6-32 no metric I'm talking using Torx or flat screwdriver and their leaders are trained to slip into the channels of the drive Bay.

There are also other designs which are designed specifically for some HP workstations that include mounts insulation rubber with the sliding mechanism.  I don't think you have that... Here is a picture of eBay one of the 8200 Desktop Elite CMT demonstrating the existence of space on the left for 8 of these silver screw to store, which 4 are missing and used on 3.5 "single drive, you see there.  Don't throw those... they are not something, you can go to Ace hardware and buy.

You need NI-VISA. If you are using a National Instruments serial port card or device, then you also need OR Serial. All software can be found in the Technical Support page.

Obviously, you have also the runtime for the software development environment itself as well. For example, for LabVIEW, you need to the LabVIEW Run-Time.

  • Dell Vostro 200 Slim Tower - for SSD Samsung 850 Evo BIOS settings

Hi - I am looking to replace the HARD drive in my Dell Vostro 200 Slim Tower with a Samsung SSD of 850 EVO.  I am running the BIOS 1.0.16 and do not see the option AHCI, RAID or IDE only.  Should what BIOS settings I use to optimize the performance of an SSD benefits?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I could get my SSD working under RAID (10 Windows) with the following steps (which some may not be necessary).

    1. MiniTool Partition Wizard Bootable 9 CD to clone a copy of the existing for the Samsung SSD HDD (Samsung data migration tool did not acknowledge the Samsung SSD on Windows 10, even though Device Manager it identified as such).  It took nearly 36 hours to clone froma 160 GB 250 GB HDD to the SSD.
    2. Replace HDD with SSD and it started / worked as an IDE drive.  TRIM has been activated and works.
    3. Apply the hotfix to the register noted in the first post of this thread (it may or may not be necessary):
      1. http://forums.HEXUS.NET/motherboards/112584-how-enable-AHCI-RAID-mode-without-reinstalling-Windows-P35-ICH9-ICH9R.html
    4. Downloaded the Intel Matrix Storage Manager 7.5.0.1017 A00 (which is appropriate for the Vostro 200 Slim Tower) from the Dell Web site and run the extracted exe file on the disk.
    5. Opens the folder where the drivers have been extracted and made a right click > install iaahci.inf and iastor.inf files.
    6. Restarted the PC, went into the BIOS and changed the IDE in RAID mode.
    7. When the system is booted, I received the message "Inaccessible Boot Device", so I let the system automatically restarts, go through the automatic recovery/repair options, then follow the guests to launch the advanced Windows options recovery to start in safe mode.
    8. Once in safe mode, I opened the Device Manager, which now showed the following new features:
      1. Disc players

        1. SAMSUNG SSD 850 EVO 500G
      2. Storage controllers
        1. Intel(r) ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller
        2. Microsoft storage controller
    9. The system is then able to start and be used normally.
    10. There are still problems with the Samsung Wizard software, but it seems that it is a matter of Samsung.

Hope this is useful to someone.

  • Satellite R830 - support Sata III for SSD drives

    Hello

Why Toshiba Satellite R830 does not support Sata III, although the plug to motherboard. indicate that it is possible?

So you can not significantly increase the performance of your laptop by replacing the HARD drive with disk SSD Sata III. Is it possible to activate the Sata III (6 Mbps) on R830?

All the system settings? It's also kind of bios update request necessary support SSD and SATA III...

    Any help is appreciated! :)

    > It shows that SATA III is supported, but when you install the SSD SATA III disc it does not work with higher speeds to ~ 250 MB/s (cases Crucial M4).

From my own experience many SSD readers need a updated firmware that is provided by the manufacturers of SSD drives.

But readers in the R830 SSD seems to support these specifications:
    Host interface: Max 300 MB/s
Reading data supported: Max 250 MB/s
Writing data supported: Max 160 MB/s

By the way: the R830 supports a Mobile Intel HM65 Express Chipset and the chipset supports the storage interface high speed supports up to 6 Gb/s transfer rate for improved data access. Provides up to 6 SATA ports, 3 Gb/s with up to 2 ports support 6 Gb/s transfer rate.

  • Pavilion G-6 2209au: Pavilion G - 6 2209au exchange for SSD HARD drive

Hello I have this have upgraded with 6 GB ram and now want to replace the disc for one SSD HARD drive, I read in the forms some how you need to change the bios when you do so, what measures are necessary for the ssd to function? I don't like about backing up files, I'll use as an external HARD drive. Also I have the apu a4 4300 m and would like to get 10 4600 m cpu is this hard to replace or should I pay someone? Thanks for the support

    That's what you have:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03551667

    It is the repair:

    Manual

From the outset I see that you only have 2 GB of RAM. Very easy and inexpensive to spend at least 4 GB. See page 46.

The motherboard is the motherboard. There is no upgrade available. However, you have the CPU AMD A4 and you might fall into a 10 - 4600M. See page 83. It would be a major update and only would no treatment faster, but would provide a slightly better video chip since it is a "APU" with processor and video on the same chip.

Finally, you can exchange the mechanical drive to a SSD drive. The upgrade of the speed would be very noticeable.

That @banhien meant, however, the cost of this can equal or exceed a new laptop. and almost certainly will if you need to pay a technician to do it. The first update I is the RAM, then the SSD and then the last would be the CPU. If you need any help post more come back.

  • SAS Raid 15 k on Raid SSD HDD

Hello. I have a Dell PowerEdge T310 with SAS 6/iR Server adapt including two 300 GB hard SAS 15 k Raid 1 drives. I just bought two 400 GB of SSD SAS Enterprise grade drives. I'm looking to replace hard drives with SSDS. What is the easy/more fastest way to get there?

Can I delete a hard drive and leave the table rebuild on the SSD and then finished on the first SSD, repeat for the second?

Backup/restore. You cannot mix SAS/SATA or SSD/HDD in a table.

  • What drivers are REALLY necessary for the 230 x?

    Hi guys,.

I recently bought the 230 x - it's great. I also bought an ssd with it and replaced defaultt with the ssd hard drive and did a clean install of Windows 7.

    I have 2 questions:

-the drivers are REALLY essential for my device? Visualize the page drivers, there are a LOT of drivers that can be installed, but I think that some of them are not really necessary, because I don't want to slow down my superfast x 230.

-are there a way to download all THE drivers both in place one by one?

    Thank you in advance,

    Mustafa

    Hello and welcome,

I can't tell you which drivers necessary for what you want to do, but the best way to get them is to install ThinkVantage System Update.  Run it and it will present all the appropriate drivers for the download and installation.

You can review the details of each before you download and decide which ones you want.  Only, check the box for those that you want and let TVSU download and install to a slap.

[edit] It is a pure opionion, based on nothing else than my preference: I'd rather live with the installation of Lenovo for awhile and see what I like - and then uninstall the stuff I have not.   IMNSHO, the initial indigestion is not that bad on a ThinkPad.  OTOH, depending on the size of the SSD, a clean installation may be the way to go.

  • Portege Z930 - need of external controller for SSD drive internal

My Board TOSHIBA Portege (ex-portable) (Z930) burned with hot water. I removed the small SSD and now need to transfer the data with a USB drive on another PC.

I borrowed from a friend a SATA USB adapter with 2 interfaces and even small connectors for SATA was not small enough for SSD from TOSHIBA. Apparently, I need a special SATA USB adapter that installs on TOSHIBA Portege mSata.

The reason why I wrote here is because there are many SATA USB adapters in internet advertised, but it seems that they have larger connectors. While TOSHIBA calls the marked thereon mSATA SSD, but several people call mSATA for one size larger SSD.

I don't want to order that something does not again. Is there someone who already removed SSD Portege?
Could you give me a link for such adapter?

The laptop was equipped with a chip HM77 Intel Panther Point and with the launch of the Intel chip allowed laptop manufacturers to integrate SSD form factor mSATA (micro SATA).

There is also a difference between the mSATA form factors
The mSATA being limited to four chips (NAND) only, Intel has developed a new standard mSATA called m2 or mSATA2.

In many cases, this is also called NGFF (new generation form factor)
This standard m2 is longer and has more low a profile

I'm not sure if this Z930 Portege supports mSATA or mSATA2, but you check the internal SSD drive where this information should be available
