Battery critical shut down - 50%! (T420)

My laptop (Win 7 Pro) T420 suddenly decided that 50% (and not 5%) is the critical battery level. Without warning, it will hybrinate - even as I type. I checked the power settings - battery critical level is set at 5%, Hybrinate is disabbled except battery critical, active power only the sleep switch, etc. The Lenovo battery util signals that the battery is in good condition.

Can someone tell me what could be wrong? I don't see that I've implemented anyting incorrectly, and this problem did not exist until now. Suggestions?

Thank you!

Are you running TPFanControl? Troubadix has mentioned such behavior.

  • Satellite Z830-10J battery discharge when the system is shut down

My new Toshiba Satellite Z830 10J ultrabook with Win7 64 bit. all updates, works fine and shows no anomaly, there is however a strange exception.

When the battery is completely charded and I 'pull the plug', the system runs on the battery for sometimes more than 5 hours, so I guess that the cycle of the battery is ok.

When the battery is now fully charged again and I SHUT down the system and not using it for a few days.
Then the battery is completely DISCHARGED to 0%, and the system does not start, until I plug.

This phenomenon occurs in less than a week. So: loading of the batrery 100%, turn the system off, pull the plug, want to re - use the system after 7 days, yields 0% battery charge.

Is there a specific reason for this?

    hchentanshankar,

    Welcome to the community.

I am sorry to read that you are experiencing this issue.  The battery is likely guilty, but you should check to see if there are any problems with the laptop or AC adapter / CC before you rush out and replace the battery.

I would start by checking the bios, boot the system by pressing F2 to enter the bios, you can also press F12 and select the bios menu.  Once in the bios look for the option for AC adapter warnings, if they are disabled they can and save the changes. If there is a problem with the adapter, you should start getting errors on the adapter.

If the adapter seems well, disconnect the battery from the system and turn off the laptop.  Wait an hour or two and then replace the battery and restart the system and see if you continue to get the message.   If you can run the laptop on battery only to leave the battery completely and then load it again and see if the problem returns.

I know that this may not be possible before you buy a new battery but if possible try a power adapter and the battery and see if the problem persists.  In this way, you can know if the problem follows the laptop battery or the AC adapter.

Please let me know what you find.

I've had my Satellite Pro A200-PSAE4E for about a year and a half now. He ran very well most of the time, but in recent months he has been stop itself randomly. There is no warning or "Windows is shutting down" he just me using my computer to a blank screen.

After frustrated with her, I did a full format my HARD drive and started from scratch. This does not solve the problem, and since then, the taskbar freezes. When I click on it I get the error and the hourglass cursor message "Windows Explorer is not responding... "I then have to click"restart", which makes the taskbar disappear for a few seconds before returning (usually without my sound icon).

The laptop turns off when it is connected to the electric network with & without the battery and when running only on battery, so I excluded all power problem.

I have considered it heats up too, but I use a block of cooling with built-in fans and has not himself in a few minutes after being hit not 24 hours, so I'm not sure that's the problem.

I think that the problem of overheating.
The fact is that the laptop would be down automatically stops in order to avoid that the pieces of equipment against damage.
In most cases this problem can be solved very easily. Using a jet of compressed air, you can remove the dust from the cooling modules and fans.
I clean my fans from time to time, because I noticed a higher temperature and the laptop was a little stronger.

    Check it out mate

Can you help me with my problem of A300 PSAG0Elaptop.

    This is the case:
before that I can still use my laptop normally without plugging the power cord but when plug the source ca the unit restarts all of a sudden. I charge the battery only when the unit is off. And now the worst case gets when I installed the recovery disk hoping would solve the problem. I can no longer load the operating system; It's just loading then it does not load and suddenly shuts down and sometimes simply frozen. I have not tried the safe mode, mode ahci, system recovery, system repair, and stil no chance.
I brought this already at the center of ASP service and they demanded almost 1 unit brand new laptop for repair of my laptop is not advisable to send them to repair.
I doubt that my system bios is not compatible with my vista Home premium OS, or perhaps my wife update of the bios that is not compatible in windows update. My current bios I checked is 1.4

Given that I have no option instead of junking my laptop, I want to update or back to the original settings of the bios that can help to repair my device.
Can you help me on how to update or revert to the original my system bios? As I can't access the windows can you teach me step by step using the usb port of my camera on system bios update? Or do you have any suggestions?

    Hey Buddy,

First of all, the BIOS can only be updated Windows System. There is no other version that you can download on the site Web of Toshiba.

But I doubt that this problem is caused by the BIOS. It s I knew not that it is possible to change certain values which make impossible Windows installation. With other words BIOS is secure and with all the settings, it should be possible to install Windows.
An alternative you can press F9 in BIOS to load the default settings. That would be the best option.

But according to your assignment, if Windows installation of recovery disc doesn t work and you are not able to charge the battery while the laptop is turned on it seems to be a hardware malfunction because seriously it has nothing to do with the software.

So either come you into contact with the ASP to get the repaired device or you can repair yourself with original spare parts with parts ASP or second-hand on eBay or similar platforms.
Of course, you can buy a new laptop: in case the motherboard would be defective because the motherboard is very expensive spare part, it would be the best choice in my opinion.

  • Satellite A30 shuts down / blocks

    Hello
I have a Toshiba Satellite A30 for about 2 years with no problems. Until today...

I was chatting on MSN Messenger, but had to put my missing status and left the computer for about an hour.

When I came back to it, the screen was all what it was when I left, but there was no control of the mouse, no whirring HARD drive away, not nothing. In fact, it seemed that he had closed the partitally without turning off the screen.

The only way I could reboot had to turn off the power. I disconnected the battery, reconnected everything and tried to reload. I don't even have as much as Logo of Toshiba screen, click on the HARD drive, * which is normal for this machine * and off.

I thought that maybe it was an overheating issue, then I left for half an hour and go home. This time it restarts, but the display was all out of sync. was on 800 x 600 when its usually on the following resolution. (Don't remember who he is). I ran dxdiag and he told me that there is no present display driver, as I had reloaded using the last well known record. It was not a problem, I reinstalled drivers, restarted without any problem.

Everything was fine for 2 h with the laptop, so at this point, I don't think it was a heat issue. I went through the net, when hung just computer still once, I lost all control of the mouse, even if the optical lights on it were always activate when moved, and he seemed to stop again.

Well, I left for 10 minutes, he came back and tried again, it started ok, but as soon as I tried to access anything, he hung up again, forcing me to press the power button to shut down.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but can anyone shed light on this point, I use my laptop on a daily basis, and there are things about it, as I need to access.

    I hope someone can help

    Thank you

    Hello

It is very interesting because it can happen to anyone. I really put t know which can block the laptop. On this way, we can only speculate and it is really not easy to say why this happens to concrete.

I put t know how is your unit configured and that these (process) applications run in the background, but you can try to stop all the unnecessary stuff and see what is happening in this case. Check the Device Manager and make sure that everything is properly recognized. After that create a system restore point and in this way you can restore the system to an earlier time if something goes wrong.

If you do not find what happens I recommend you back up the data and do the recovery procedure. On this way the unit will be own pre-installed and things like this can happen. As you know sometimes happen oddities and there is no logical explanation.

    Good luck!

    Hello

I have HP Pavilion g6-2288sx Notebook PC. There the processor core i3 with 4 GB of ram.

My problem is that my laptop turns off suddenly during execution, not hibernation - total stop without any error or warning or anything. It's just blank and turn again until I connect it with its charger. Low battery is not the cause of the problem that it does not give error battery low charge battery even shows I have enough battery to work on the next 30 minutes.

Please, I really need the cause of the problem!

    Hi MNUH,

I understand that your notebook computer shuts down without warning and I'll be happy to help you with that. I noticed problems before where the battery is always showing a load, but he was not really taking charge of the laptop was just read wrong battery level. You don't mention what operating system you are using so I included HP two documents below on how to test and calibrate the battery.

Test and calibrate the battery (Windows 8)

Test and calibrate the battery (Windows 7)

Alternatively, you can try to reset the compatible Microsoft ACPI control method battery is basically the driver that communicates between the computer and the battery. There is a chance that it's corrupted laptop reads bad battery level, so the computer thinks that the battery level is higher, then what is actually, so when he is out of juice it stops right on you.

Step 1. Go to the Device Manager
    Step 2. Select the stacks
Step 3. Click with the right button on the "Microsoft compatible battery ACPI Control method" which is in the list
    Step 4. Click on uninstall
Step 5. At the command prompt, put a checkmark in the box to remove the current driver
Step 6. Shut down the computer

Step 7: Remove the battery for a minute and then put new

When the computer returns to the top it should automatically find the driver.

Step 8. Go to the Device Manager
    Step 9. Select the stacks
Step 10. Click with the right button on the "Microsoft compatible battery ACPI Control method" which is in the list
Step 11. Click "automatically search for an updated driver.

Do the same thing with embedded controller compatible ACPI Microsoft.

If none of this works let me know which operating system you are using and we will look at the rest of the material.

    Thank you

    Hi Volarberg,

    1. did you of recent changes on the computer?

    2. you receive a message so that the closure of the computer?

    3. using laptop or desktop?

    Method 1

See the link below and run the Fixit tool available, check if it helps.

The problems of power consumption and extend laptop battery life

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_battery_power_settings

    Method 2

If the previous step fails, then it is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and check if it helps.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows XP by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

I think I have a type of malware or something because my computer started running slower and I continue to be redirected to Web sites randomly when I use Google or Bing.  Records on the right side of my Start menu as 'Computer' and 'My Documents' disappeared.  I also get this an update for Windows live which stops at 57%.

    Problem:

There is no restore point on my computer if I want to perform a system recovery back to the image of the manufactuer.  I downloaded the USB recovery Flash Disk Utility for my model.  Now I want to recover my computer via USB, but when I run the advanced recovery mode he's trying to restart my computer.  Given that my computer will not shut down properly, I end up having to press the power button until it stops my computer and the recovery does not continue when I start my computer again.

I tried to use F11, but then I just end up on a screen that says either press on enter to choose to continue with Windows 7, press tab to move to the bottom of the list or press ESC for more options.  I tried all three and they eventually freeze the screen and keys are starting to make a Summit high-pitched beep when I try to press one, so I end up having to force my laptop to stop.

I also tried to make recovery by pressing F8 and then choosing the "repair your computer option.  Which causes my computer screen go black, and I end up having to force it to close again.

Is it possible to restore my computer to factory settings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    JES

    Hi, Jes:

Yes, it would be the battery.  The relatively heavy bar that is normally removed retainers of slide.

From what you described, I am afraid that your PC needs a lot of work (probably a bad motherboard), and you'd be much better to buy a new laptop or refurbished, than to pay a lot of money to fix yours.

I guess you would have to pay more than $200 for repair.

I'm sorry this is probably not what you wanted to hear.

  • Network connected to PSUS4 printer goes offline when the PC is shut down...

I am close to giving up this problem, help would really be appreciated.

My printer network disconnects when my computer is shut down or sleep. I have a Samsung printer connected to a print server through a router Linksys WAG160N Linksys PSUS4 wireless. Two computers that are hard cables to the router to see and access the printer without problem. I now have a new laptop Sony Vaio (Vista OS) that accesses the router WAG160N wireless. The Vaio connects to the internet OK, but everytime I shut down the PC, the printer is offline and remains offline to the Vaio when I start again.

If I remove the printer of the Vaio and then 'add printer' again, by selecting the option "Add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer" shows the printer as \\LK90a6dd\p1 network is available. But if I try to connect to it, I have "X Windows cannot connect to the printer". If, instead of this, I choose 'Add a local printer' and select the existing port "\\LK90a6dd\p1 (renderer client-side) ' and the printer driver series Samsung ML1210, the printer is installed, works very well and remains online - until I have stop the Vaio, it is. Then delete the printer, install the printer etc to access the printer again.

    Pleeeaaassseee help...

Kevin, I owe you a drink. I have added the printer as a local printer (as opposed to network), entering the IP, etc print driver, restarted the computer, and... the printer remained online. Unlike many critics of Vista, I found that it is a reasonable operating system. But maybe it's the glitches like these that give it a bad reputation. Thanks a lot for your help. Really enjoyed.

  • [8510w] system shuts down / is not start when the card is inserted

    Hello
my old 8510w developed a bad thing - when the power cord is inserted, system will shut down. Works fine on battery.
    Symptoms:

    1. stops when the power cord is inserted;
    2. does not start then on the power supply;
    3. charge led flashes in unusual ways - led is quite low, but gets a little more brilliant ca once per second;
    4. power led lights also dimmed down mode.

I tried another adapter as well, so that should be good. I would like to know if this problem is known and could be repaired (quite easily), or there is no point to this end by like old computer as 8510w.

    -------------------------------
    8510w
    Debian Wheezy / Win7

Measure the output voltage of the AC adapter does not prevent the failure of adapter to even the slightest charge.

If the laptop will not start even with an identical power adapter connected and remove the battery, then it is very likely that the electric distribution/charging circuit on the map system of the laptop has a faulty component.  If you're a troubleshoting capableof until the component level and bulbs to solder you can fix the system board. Most people choose to replace the motherboard or laptop.
