Before USB ports not working only not with non-powered devices such as USB memory keys

I have a K430 with 2 front USB ports.

When I connect a device like an iPod, it works fine.

When I connect a device not powered such as USB keys nothing happens:

  1. No light illuminating on the stick.
  2. No recognition of the device by Windows.

I tried the stick in a hub connected to the ports on the back and it works fine.

I am typing by using a USB keyboard connected directly to the ports on the back, so I know they work.

I saw a post similar (but different) for a K450, but after trying to update the drivers from the chipset, I get a response saying that my drivers are all up to date for all USB devices on the system.

I am running Windows 8.1

Any other suggestions? (I want to avoid a reset to the factory settings that my wife uses the PC for work and it would take an age to reinstall all the software and rebuild the file structure)

Well,.

I tried to update the drivers, but that did not help so I investigated further.

It turns out that the case goes beyond just enough away on the PC and my USB (they are both relatively old) that the connector has no sitting far enough into the hole. Once I used a cable to connect the two everything worked normally.

Thanks for those who took the time to read my post.

I have a printer wireless on my home network, but also a Synology NAS of DS213air for backups.

My laptop has no problem after turning on homegroup.  I was able to continue to send print jobs to the printer network and is still connect to the NAS.

However, on the desktop, print jobs sent to the printer network has failed.  I removed the printer from my devices and tried the card again.  Windows cannot find the network printer by itself, however, I was able to map the printer again in hand - type the IP address directly.

The connection mapped to my NAS in Windows Explorer became too broken.

If I open the DOS command screen and try to ping the NAS server with its network name, I get host not found.  If I ping by its IP address, I get the answer.

I deleted the mapped drive broken to the NAS in Solution Explorer and was able to re - the map again to hardcode NAS IP address.

However, my backup software is losing its connection to SIN at random times, sometimes 3 hours after the start of a backup, other time 12 hours after the start of the backup and transfer 700 + GB to the NAS.  For the past 3 weeks, no backups not completed.

I failed to identify the reason that Win7 Ultimate has ceased to recognize the names of my two non-Windows devices network after you have created the homegroup.

I found the problem, thanks to your clues in ipconfig/all.

I thought only I had a direct link between the office and my combo modem/router/AP to access.

I forgot a month before, I took the dust of an old router to share the LAN to my desktop PC, so I might have extra wired LAN for a separate docking station.

I have not reconfigure this 2nd router to act as a switch... that is why the office became a different prefix than intellectual property.  I disabled DHCP on it and moved the cable from the WAN port to one of the LAN ports.

Because the USB works on the PC, appears not a hardware problem, but a kind of connection problem with Media Player.  Please repost your question to the Windows Media Player Discussion Group at: http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.multimedia.windows.mediaplayer where experts in Media Player will be more than happy to help you with your problem.

  • Corruption of USB memory stick

I have a key USB Verbatim that I use to synchronize files between a laptop running Vista Home Premium and your desktop under XP Professional SP3.

By 'synchronize', I mean just to run a batch file to copy files.  Nothing complicated.

Since upgrading my Vista laptop, I started to get the corruption of files on my USB key.  So far, this has happened twice.  I first noticed the corruption because it lacked (1) the files I copied on the memory stick, and Vista (2) began to complain when I plug in the USB key and offer to "scan and difficulty" it.  I ran chkdsk on the USB drive, which found errors.  CHKDSK said she 'removed the entries in the folder' and 'converted to strings lost files.  Running of chkdsk has not yet found any errors.  I've spent a lot of time to rebuild the data corrupted on my USB backup I had done elsewhere and has been subsequently upward and re-run.

Since I first corruption running chkdsk on a regular basis (even the time I plug the memory stick) and careful to always use surely "remove hardware" on both machines before unplugging the drive.  I was also careful not to let my laptop to sleep so that the USB plugged, but it shouldn't matter.

This morning, I noticed that corruption had resurfaced.  I've been running chkdsk often, I'm sure it's happened when the files to deal with USB stick on the Vista laptop this morning.

What is the guilty likily here?  It seems that it's the hardware of USB memory stick or a bug in Windows Vista?  A person offers advice such as how to limit?

    DietCokeAddict,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers community forum.

Looks like you did a good job to limit the problem.  I would certainly continue to run chkdsk on the USB memory key and make remove them hardware safely shows before withdrawing.  There is an update for Vista that is specifically for USB devices that may solve your problem.  I had it set a number of different problems with USB devices.

  • Satellite P10 Series - USB Ports not working not

    Hi - I have a portable series of P10, PSP10E-0RCJM-EN.

Don't know when or how this can happen, but none of my USB ports work integrated.
They are all recognized and installed when you look in the Windows Device Manager.

I am running Win XP Home Edition with SP2 and latest drivers and BIOS downloaded from the Toshiba web site.
I had the hope that it might be a simple device or a driver of motherboard problem, but does not appear.

Using a card PCMCIA USB works very well, but uses only one card slot that I need for other purposes.

    Anyone has more suggestions please?
I hope you can help, impatience of someone soon!

    Graham

    Hello

Try to remove all the ports from the Device Manager.
Then try to restart the device. After this procedure, the operating system should recognize and install again the USB ports.
It would be very interesting to know if the ports are working properly after this new facility.

  • Equium A60 - 692 USB Ports not working not

Hi all - new to the forum and what a good place to find info on Toshiba laptops. Anyway - after a recent storm, I lost connection to my ISP broadband - contacted the helpline who advised me to Exchange my ADSL modem to an Ethernet - made and corrected the connection problem - however - only after having it done I realize has none of my devices (printer, camera, Web Cam etc.) worked via the USB ports. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the system and drivers for devices without result. The device displays 500ma of power manager is available for each of the 3 ports but watch 0ma used. The Device Manager also shows that the USB ports are working properly. Can someone help or advise if these ports on a separate card or they are part of the motherboard. If Yes, where can I get a. Congratulations to all - Andy

A lighting strike is not good news, if she gets hit by a kind something can go wrong. My guess is that your laptop USB ports has taken suddenly by a massive power surge that probably damaged the chips inside. It could be a Windows problem, or not the only thing I could suggest is to use a bootable Linux such as Knoppix CD and run a command called usbview with some USB devices.
If the USB has been confirmed dead then your only option is to use an adapter CardBus USB 2.0 providing your CardBus slot is not damaged too.

  • Example: Pavl'ln Slimline s5-1: Front USB Ports NOT working

Really need help from the experts here - model desktop HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1: H2M46AA (a Joshua motherboard with H61 Intel Chipset) crashed hard drive and have no original driver. Clean install of Win7 Home Premium SP1. Everything is OK except other devices, Universal Serial Bus (USB) bus controller. Driver is not found. After installing Win7, installed an ethernet driver and the original files Chipset installed HP Web site. All drivers OK except the foregoing who apparently controls USB ports before 2 which did not. Then, installed all updates provided by Windows Update. USB ports before always inoperative. They worked before the new Win7. After much research, unusable before USB ports seems to be a common problem, but none of the planned solutions help (check that the cables, turn off completely, Intel Driver Update Utility, etc.). On my system, the first of the 4 ID material for this device shows as: PCI\VEN_104C & DEV_8241 & SUBSYS_2ADA103C & REV_02. According to pcidatabase.com, this is identified as: "Texas Instruments USB 3.0 XHCI Host Controller" and therefore a possible problem. The ports are, I believe, USB 2.0 and not 3.0 according to Joshua documentation (http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=motherboard&U=en-us0000525 see also "\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log" shows there is no files on the drive associated with the ID of the above material because they are not found during the installation of the driver.) So the question: How can I get these ports USB works - have installed to each HP update recommended for this system. I'm puzzled!

You're right, it's just an update of the driver, but I think that this is specified, you can see the technique of reference:

I have a model computer T430s 2352CTO, running Windows 8.1, 64-bit version. Before upgrading Windows 8.0 all drivers have been updated.
