BEFSR41 and New Modem/router DSL

Verizon has recently replaced my DSL modem with a new DSL modem/router with a dynamic IP address. Even though I have full internet access with the new modem of the Setup for my Linksys BEFSR41 router disk will not be connected to the internet. What should I do for the new modem so that the Setup disk will see the internet? The DSL modem/router has only one port so I'm not able to have more than one computer/device hooked up at the same time so I still need my router.

Well how about you that :-) It all works now. Thank you guys.

  • Airport Extreme and Broadband Modem/Router

I have my Airport Extreme (5th generation) plugged into a Broadband Modem/Router combo. I would like to have both able to use their wireless capabilities. The Airport Extreme has been previously connected to a Modem broadband all my IP addresses came by Airport Extreme (192.168.2. *). With the New Modem/Router combo broadband, it uses 10.0.0 * so I would be able to use Airport Extreme to add the 192.168.2. * While having the 10.0.0. * the Broadband Modem/Router combo.

Is this possible and, if so, how do I configure Airport Extreme to do?

Normally, you don't want two devices on the same network as the two try to act as routers to the same network. Which will produce conflicts of IP addresses... which can possibly be addressed... and a Double NAT problem, which cannot.

The Double NAT error can cause a number of unpredictable issues... things like the problems of communication between the devices on the network, slow navigation... or, not navigation in the case of certain websites, Internet access slower, to name a few.

Yes, some users may get away with a Double NAT on a single home network, but unnecessarily complicating things over a network is normally something you want to avoid.

We do not recommend it, but if you really want AirPort Extreme for use range 192.168.2.x however, you can easily make this change using AirPort Utility. If you are not sure how to do this and need help, then we will need to know which version of AirPort utility you are using.

To find, open AirPort Utility, and then click the menu of AirPort Utility in the far left of the screen corner. Click on about AirPort Utility to see what version you have and post back with that info.

  • installed a new modem router now I can't access my emails with my usual password.

I have installed a new modem router, a Netgear D6300, now when I press the messages button get on my email account thunderbird, he invited my password which is normal. But when I enter my password that worked all the time it tells me that it is the incorrect user name or password. Of course, the implementation of my new router has changed something, please help.

almost all Netgear routers have a firewall. Then log into the router. username Admin and password is probably password. If not these days they printed on the bottom of the router. Check the ports used for mail are not blocked.

  • Cannot connect remotely via VPN since installing the new modem/router

Can anyone help please. Since the acquisition of a new router / modem I can no longer connect via VPN to my work PC remotely. It comes in I receive the error message. Can someone tell me if I need to change the settings for the new modem / router to access?

    Hello Joanna,

Here are the steps you need to do first:

    1. Off static IP for my server and let the router assign IP address and changed the IP address of the port forward.
    2. Check the IP address because obviously, that changed when you plugged into the router again.
    3. Updated to the latest firmware for the router and NIC.

For more detailed troubleshooting you can refer to this link: troubleshooting common VPN related errors.

Let us know how it goes.

  • Problems with AirPort Extreme and Qwest Modem/Router.

I have a Qwest ActionTec 1000 DSL VDSL2 gateway and want to disable the functions of router wireless and those through direct AirPort Extreme. I know that in the Modem I have to disable the functions of addressing and turn them in the AirPort Extreme to avoid address conflicts, but what are the settings I need to change in both devices? And what is "A Transparent bridging" on the side of the modem?

But what are the settings I need to change in both devices?

Sorry, we can't help on the settings for the modem/router, because it would be a question of Qwest as to if this is even possible and if so, if Qwest will support this type of installation. Sometimes the ISP lock modem/router settings, and although it seems as if you can change the basic configuration of the unit, you can really.

Yes, it is possible that another user of Qwest has done with the same modem/router you have and an AirPort Extreme... and may know the answer... but the chances of the person who holds this information also to see this post are slightly above zero. But, I guess it's possible.

If the modem/router can be configured to operate only as a simple modem, then the next step would be to get your Mac connected directly to the modem to test the connection in this way. If Qwest is going to help you, they will do it no doubt with your Mac connected directly to the "modem" as well.

Once you know the exact details of the PPPoE authentication to establish a connection, these parameters can be transferred to the AirPort Extreme and removed from your Mac. To do this, you reset the AirPort Extreme back to default and then put settings in place again. The installer should detect the PPPoE connection and then ask for your login information.  After this, the correct settings apply to AirPort Extreme during the installation.  You can still use the same wireless network name and password you used before if you wish, or set up a new network name and password.

PPPoE on the routers of the airport, at least in my experience, was not a reliable way to connect when I tried this in the past, but you don't really know how well... or even if... it will work until try you it. Unless you really want the airport to distribute IP addresses to devices on your network, things would be a lot more simple if you went ahead and used the modem/router "such what" and then let the airport works in Bridge Mode to transfer information in connection with network devices.

When you have the modem/router converted to act as a simple modem and made a successful connection using your Mac connected directly to the "modem", post back and we can help with the configuration of the AirPort Extreme if you need more advice.

  • WAP54G and new modem

I had wireless access WAP54G for about two years, connected to a D-Link router which is connected to a SpeedStream 5260 DSL modem, he supported a desk and four laptops without any problem. The modem is old and starting to have problems of hosting an internet connection. I bought a new Motorola 2210 modem today and configured via a wired connection with my office. When I connect it to the WAP54G I can access internet from my office, but laptops have a problem connecting to the access point. Reconnect the old modem and everything is back to normal, every PC can access the internet and the other. Someone at - it else experienced this type of problem?

You must ensure that all the new modem settings match those of the old modem. IE, was the old modem in Bridge mode where the Internet IP address is hosted ob your router, or has the IP address of the modem. Are the parameters of gateway & DNS the same etc.

The problem you are experiencing is not a function ot the WAP54G as this was never changed or modified.

  • HP Deskjet 2542: Cannot print wireless Deskjet 2542 after installing the new modem/router

We have recently installed a new Netgear modem/router and have not been able to print wireless since installation. I tried everything I could find on the forum and still no luck. Any help will be appreciated.

Replacement/change your wireless router, try here.

    http://www.HP.com/global/au/en/wireless/reconfiguring-system-Help3.html

Make sure that your router is set to a fixed channel wireless as the 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto '.  Try each of the channels one at a time.  Make sure they are spaced at least 5 feet.

However, if you have a gateway device (modem + router), all gateway devices are terrible for connectivity and wireless performance.   If this does not work, suggest you put this bridge in full bridge mode device and install your own router of high quality that YOU have full control over.

  • Linksys BEFSR41 connection with modem router getting not real internet ip

Hello, can someone help with this problem. I connected to a modem router linksys BEFSR41 router. But when I watched the status in linksys BEFSR41 router, it gives only an IP from the modem router and no real internet ip address.

can someone give me an answer.

    Thanks in advance.

Don't string two routers. Fill the modem/router or don't use the BEF as a router, but only as a simple switch (or replace it with a standard ethernet switch).

  • Availability and cable modem router compatible French

I'm looking to go from DSL to fiber in France on Orange ISP.

I was wondering if I could buy Netgear equipment to run instead of the orange crap stuff they force us to use!

I HATE the ISP devices, they are devices of sagemcom in desguise and break every year!

    Hello aalexandrebeta

Ask if they take over the client property of modems and if so what is recommended also ensure that it is a coaxial cable connection they use.

  • Apple Airport Extreme and new FIOS router - problem

Hello, I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n base station, which worked well with a Comcast router.  When you set up with Comcast router, I set the router to comcast to bridge and the Airport Extreme has done all the work as the main router. When I switched to Verizon FIOS today, I get the typical mistake of NAT double (that I did with the Comcast before configuring the router to Comcast to bridge).  However, the tech support guy FIOS said that was not an option, so he set up my Airport Extreme in bridge - router off mode mode.  This really live to the top incoming access using SSH, Timbuktu or the Apple screen sharing, given that I can't assign fixed IP addresses to the computers on my network and can not use the Airport Utility Network Port settings to open "pipes" for a particular computer.  In addition, I'm more comfortable using Airport Extreme, rather than things FIOS. Someone at - it other than enter Comcast suggestions?

I did a search and didn't see a post on this in the discussion forum.  Thank you

What is the brand and model of your router Verizon? Verizon provides you with administrator access to it to allow you to make changes?

  • 6980xi and new wireless router

I just upgraded a WRT610N router to a Linksys E3000 router. I have not had any problems with the printer this morning and he seemed to find it's IP very well with the 610. The only thing that changes is the router. So, I tried the soft reset, hard reset and pushing her two times to get the thing to try to obtain an IP address. Nothing has worked. I ran a long ethernet cable to it and it connects perfectly. Problem is that I don't really want a long cable through my hallway and in my office where the printer is running.

Good, everything above BUT I can see the hpsetup my laptop and iPhone and other than seeing passes it the printer I can't access it otherwise. However, the network is still flashing. And for the life of me I don't remember what I did to get this working on the old router. I don't remember it this difficult. Or maybe I'm in loss of gray matter as I get older. Anyway, I'm on Win 7 pro 64-bit. The router is a reworked WRT610N called the E3000. And of course, HP has no software which is useful for Win 7. Well, nothing that I can find after having scoured the interwebs for the last 3 hours...

I fixed it! I had to enter in the IP which he awarded it while that connected to the ethernet cable and manually configure the wireless in the Advanced section to my wireless SSID and password etc. He did reassign an IP address, BUT I could see it in the list DHCP router's LAN. Which led me to the solution above. FFS which was a pain. Although G.I. Joe said "knowledge is half the battle. Maybe I ought to trouble shoot more when I'm tired, huh?

Thank you very much for giving me advice, he pushed me in the right direction!

  • HP 6980 printer - cannot connect wireless with the new modem/router

You're right, that it was not easy... 4 first steps worked well and then fell on a problem with the hpsetup, because it was not on my computer.   Download drivers and software Web site, such as the drive no longer works (I have Vista Home Premium 64-bit).  Doctor of the printer does not work either... in any case it is configured now, but it took about 30 minutes to complete the configuration of the printer.

  • Connect AirPort Express to lemon (Rogers Rocket) Wireless Modem/Router

I just got Rogers Wireless internet new modem/router Hitron.  I use modem/router mode.  It's great. Very fast and a lot of range. Covers all 3 floors of my house.

I want to connect an Apple Terminal to my Hitron router with an ethernet cable and put the Hitron in Bridge mode. I want to continue to use the Hitron router as my main and only router.

However on another floor, I would use an Apple Airport Express connected to my stereo with a jack 1/8 '' to play my music wirelessly from my iTunes from Apple.

To do this, I need this Apple Airport Express Terminal to 'find' the Hitron router.  How can I get to find the router Hitron?

I guess that you have a current version or recent of the AirPort Express with the default settings.

As long as the AirPort Express is located where it can receive a strong signal of the modem/router...and wireless Hitron the Hitron aircraft provides a wireless signal that uses industry standard wireless settings, the AirPort Express can 'join' the wireless network. Wired Ethernet is not necessary.

Note that the AirPort Express will not "spread" or "repeat" the signal from the router/modem lemon to provide additional coverage of wireless signal wireless, but it can be used to join the wireless network and provide a signal of airtime for your stereo.

Simply use a Mac running a current or recent operating system, or an iPhone/iPad and configuration "Wizard" Apple to set up things upward. The wizard will automatically offer the correct configuration to 'join' the wireless network. All you really need to do is to enter a device name that you want to use for the AirPort Express and the password of the wireless network and confirm.

Start the wizard by clicking on AirPort Express under the title of the new AirPort base station.

On an iPhone or iPad, the screen looks like this:

In the example below, the wizard has detected a network named "2WIRE902" for the AirPort Express join. You will see the name of the wireless network that provides the Hitron modem/router on your screen. Just enter a name of device for the Express, then type the wireless network password, then type it again to verify.

Click next at the bottom right of the window and the AirPort Express displays a green light for a minute or two and you're done.

  • HP Photosmart B209a is no longer connect wirelessly because change of modem/router

I recently had to change a modem Motorola Surfboard, router Netgear (both at least 5 years). The new modem/router combo is a C3700 Docsis 3.0. My printer HP Photosmart Plus B209a model is no longer connects to the wireless network.  I tried the push button and pin. I get a WPS, unable to connect. When I print the network settings, my network is listed but the printer shows offline with no active conection. Firmware is EIL1FNO926AR and stands as the last revision of the printer. Wireless 802.11 under the mac address is given, and status is offline.  In addition, the printer and modem/router are about 3 feet apart on the same desktop.

Any ideas for what to do to get my printer back online or is not compatible with the new modem/router?

    Thank you
