Best external hard drive of programs?

Hello

I am a Mac user and I am currently using:

MacBook Pro (retina, 13 inches, end of 2013)

2.4 GHz Intel Core i5

8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Iris 1536 MB Intel

OS X El Capitan

250 GB of storage.

My Mac storage is almost full, and I am considering buying an external hard drive to free up space on my internal hard drive. However, I wanted to know if you can put programs on an external hard drive and if so, which is the best external hard drive for programs, for the cheapest price.

I really don't want to pay more than 100 GBP.

Between 50 and 70 GBP is my ideal price range, however, if there is an external hard drive that is absolutely amazing for a bit before, I can consider buying.

If you cannot put programs on an external hard drive, which external hard drive is the best for a Mac?

Furthermore, is it possible to add storage space for my internal drives?

Thank you and I hope you can help me.

Most of the programs broadcast their parts through several system directories.  A few programs I've seen work completely in a single directory.  Loading programs on "external" is delicate at best... unless the outside is a complete external operational system in-itself.

With regard to external hard drives... people give me grief for continue to recommend, but...

A single hard drive with a single disc is, in my experience, a compromise.  Mediocre quality disks combined with poor quality map interface and this card can do the contents of the drive not except through this controller... re-use of the disk outside this House requires reformat and loss of content.

I use this external box http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MSTG800U3K/ that allows Exchange in all 2.5 in SATA drive.  The enclosure is of good quality, and you can get better quality discs to be inserted.  So when doen with one disk, exchange for another.  I use mine for player data and images, several clones/backups and test for the new OSXes drives and can use it to any number of other disks.

How can I identify the name of the invisible file for a backup file successfully to an external hard drive USB2 separate?  I use Windows Vista backup program (Service Pack 2), and I need to do backups plus two from other computers on the same external hard drive.  To do this, I think I would need to identify each backup file separate I know which file to specify if I need to do a restore.

How can I accomplish this? The program does not seem to give me the ability to specify a file to which to write the backup during a given session files.  In addition, I do not understand why I can not see the file name in Windows Explorer - my files options are defined to be able to view hidden and system.  Would be grateful for any help you can provide, tonight if possible.   Best regards, Oliver for Norm

If you want an exact clone, you will need to use a utility like utility disk, Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!

If you are mobile loose photo files, drag them in here and if you are going to be removed from the inside, keep a copy on a second disc.

If you move an iPhoto, Aperture, or photo library, make sure that the external hard drive contains a volume to the Mac OS Extended format, drag the library there, launch the application with the key Option key, choose it, confirm that it works and if you are going to be remove from the inside, keep a copy of it on a second disc.

How can I make the best use of a new external hard drive and a new catalog full of photos just loaded into Photoshop elements 14 Organizer?

Keep all the files on external hard drive image?  Nothing else and no pictures on the desktop?

Keep all image files both places?

What is the best way to go through thousands of images in the Organizer to identify and place them in files?

Once I've placed a file, I just leave it in the entire catalog or a way indicate to me that it has been sorted?

As overwhelming, any tips/shortcuts/schemes, you can offer are welcome!

As I only have the version of the EP, here is some info on the organiser:

    https://helpx.Adobe.com/Photoshop-elements/how-to/use-elements-Organizer.html

Independent of how this feature works, you want to have your photos in one place and have a backup (second copy) somewhere else. All hard drives will not be successful at some point - some more early, some late - never trust to have your files in any safety devices if they are on a single disc. Once you have your sorted, it would be useful that you will organize/name/tag new photos immediately if the task is relatively short and simple. I copy my photos on my internal hard drive for my camera, take a quick look with preview to see who needs some changes and then decide where to put them - either drop them immediately after naming them or bring in an editing application and then file them away.

  • Best way backup external hard drives?

    SYSTEM INFORMATION:

    HP Pavilion PU131AV / a1050y, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.20 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP MCE, SP3 32-bit, Nvidia GeForce 6600

CURRENT BACKUP METHOD: I have three external hard drives (200 GB, 300GB, 750GB) all connected via USB.  I use the 750Go to back up the data on my 200 and 300 GB.  Currently, I manually copy all the files from the 750 GB smaller hard drives to save them.  It's very tedious because it takes about 5 hours to copy 200 GB of data.

QUESTION: I've never used the 'Backup Now' tool (right click on the drive / properties / tools / backup now) to back up external hard drives.  It would be a better option for me instead of manually copying files to a post of h/d to another?  Can I automate backups?  How can I retrieve the backup should I need the data backup?

    Thank you very much

  • Western Digital external hard drive to backup impossible after installing the MS Fix It program

I installed MS difficulty it program and since then, I had backup problems with my external hard drive WD (Western DigitaL).  I've used this for many months to back up my entire computer, using my Norton program, and now I get the message that there is a problem "with the back up.  He asks me to check if the device is connected, (it is of course!).  I also noticed that my external hard drive has been changed to 'F' to 'G' after I installeld Fix It.  That's fine, but WHY?  Is it considered a CORRECTION device?

WHAT'S PAST AND HOW I CAN GET THIS BACK TO NORMAL, SO I CAN EASILY BACK UP AGAIN? It's very frustrating.

Thanks for any help you can give.

  • After saving documents to an external hard drive, some of my programs are missing on my computer. I can't find Outlook Express.

I've been to the export of all my documents to an external hard drive all day... when I got back, some of my programs have disappeared too, especially my outlook express with all my emails (for the last ten years), is not in the programs, or in the menu... where at - it go?

original title: outlook express to go?

Have you looked in the control panel I suggested?

    1: enable hidden files.

Select Show files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

2: go to * c:\program files\outlook express\msimn.exe *. If you find, right-click on it and send to | Desktop (create shortcut). You can open OE?

If you can't find that, at the very least, you will need to do a repair installation, or perhaps to reinstall XP completely.

  • Error message "unable to copy the file"hiberfil", it is used by another person or program." Problem copying content from your PC to external hard drive.

Original title: problem to copy content from your PC to external hard drive.

I use Windows XP 2000 and am trying to restore my pc to factory settings as it is continuously 'stick '. When you try to copy my drive "c" on an external drive I get a message saying "unable to copy the file"hiberfil", it is used by another person or program." Close any program that might be using the file and try again "." What is 'hiberfil' and how do I close it down as I am not aware that I use?

    Concerning

    Pete

The hiberfil.sys will be created every time that you start... If you put in hibernation enabled in your control panel, Power Options and the file is 'open' to think that you can actually choose to Hibernate at any given time.  When you Hibernate XP gives a note of it and will write a hiberfil.sys sometimes important in the c:\ folder so that when XP fires again upwards and returns from hibernation, XP will read the hiberfil.sys file and return to the situation that you were in when you put into hibernation.

I use to be a chronic hibernant because it takes less time to return after hibernation as a cold start.  Sometimes, it can actually be slower that a cold so start your system based on the amount of RAM has.  The more RAM you have, the more your hiberfil.sys will, if sometimes it's faster to move with just a cold start if you Hibernate (26,03 seconds for me).

If hiberfil.sys is giving you a hard time (you would not in any way copy it) disable hibernation in your Power Options and the file will be deleted immediately since it would be is no longer necessary.  That would solve this, but if you are trying to copy the entire C drive, you will have other files to complain after that.

It is certainly possible to make a complete copy of the C drive, if you want, but you will have to initialize on something next to your drive hard if you want to do this so the XP files are not used - then you can copy anything and everything.  You can get some imaging software of disc that will also help you.

It depends on what the problem is you want to solve and what you wand to end up with when you're done (so far, unspecified).

I would work on figure our why your XP is paste and fix it in place.  XP should not be sticky.

You have a few choices.  You can buy a 3rd party program to backup such as Acronis True Image or Norton Ghostor you can install the program NTBackup comes with XP Home, but is not installed by default:

  • Can I install programs on external hard drive?

    Original title: external hard drive

I need to free up space and my hard drive. Can I take MS Works off the hard drive, put it on an external drive and use it or is it related to Windows XP and prevent this use? Same question for McAfee, Adobe and other routines.

    Hello

It depends on the program you are trying to install. Generally, it does not work. Check if t he program is written to install on a portable hard drive. MS Works will not work if you install it in an external drive.

    Hope this information was useful.

  • Problem with 'open with' records not of programs on external hard drive

Hi - I have several large programs installed on an external hard drive. Previously, there were no problems with the program and files associated with the other. My computer had to be rebuilt recently and all re-installed with the exception of those programs on the external hard drive. My files get recognized by windows - when I am asked to browse to find the program and I select this program from the ED - windows will not add to the 'open with' list of programs. I don't see what the problem is and a little lost. If anyone can help I'd be really grateful, as I have quite a few files that I have now correctly open questions.

    Thank you

When you install a program, two things happen: the program get
When you say let it go, and * pointers to many parameters and references
It is set in the registry and elsewhere in \windows (there are
an occasional exception, but usually only with a small single
    programs).

Thus, when Windows has been reinstalled, all these many pointers, settings,.
and references to it in the registry and elsewhere in \windows
have been lost. Programs cannot operate without them.

For this reason, separating \Windows and installed programs
(especially on an external drive) is a bad thing to do.

  • I backed up all the data on external hard drive and did a clean install of xp pro. I can't find a lot of folders, files or programs.

I'm looking for advice search to find photos, documents and MS Office applications, most seem to be missing. I had a large photo collection and cannot find a few hundred off more 4 000.

How can I do to get the MS DOS programs? I have more drives. Is it possible to download the programs I had? MS will be able to see that the key is stored somewhere in my computer or external hard drive?

A backup does not recover programs, only data.
If you did a clean install of the program keys that are lost, so you have to install the origonal with all key media programs
