Best practices of priority network traffic at the switch

What is usually the best way to prioritize the specific traffic a VLAN specific?

I work with the differentiated Services to match the traffic of a VLAN specific and assign a queue of 6 switch to give traffic a higher priority than normal traffic. But I'm not sure that with this configuration. I red on the priority of traffic from the switch but I didn't understand any of this I think.

The police are certainly working. In the web interface, I see that are packages offered for the DiffServ, according to me, I'm missing something...

Config:
Policy-map {policy name} in
class {class name}
Assign-queue 6
output
interface port-channel 1
service-policy in the {policy name}

Just a brief update: I think that my setup works fine. I figured out that the ping response delay has more to do with the terminal and then with the configuration of the switch :)

  • Best practices for configuring network ESX

Suppose I have a small resource ESX server with only two physical network cards to work only a few virtual machines.  There are only two physical network adapters cannot be added.  Still, best practice would dictate that this service console would be on its own dedicated physical NIC?  In this scenario puts service console and all the VMs on a pair of network cards grouped better because if a NETWORK card fails both the service console and all virtual machines are still available?  In this case the bandwidth is very low and contention for the network bandwidth is not a problem. • Best practices for 4 network cards?

We use Dell 10th gen blade chassis for our ESX environment. We have 2 zFCP cards for storage and 4 NICs for each box. I'm torn about how best to manage these 4 network cards. I wanted to create a separate vmkernel network, but it is difficult to justify using 2 NICs for vmkernel (redundancy). I did team all 4 cards and share them for vmkernel and comments networks (traffic is separated by VLAN). Yesterday 1 of our 4 switches failed, and all the hosts lost connectivity. It makes me rethink our network configuration.

What others do when they only have 4 available network cards? What is the recommended configuration for network vmkernel and comments?

  • Best wireless network installation with the switch TP-Link

    Hi all

Few question numpty maybe, but what follows... We just moved to a new (larger) home with thick walls and I want to set up a new wireless network.

    The current installation is:

Fiber cable entering the House in the basement and connected the modem to the service provider that provides 150 mb internet. I changed the capacity wireless on the ISP's modem and connecting an airport extreme (2014 model) via the LAN to the modem. The extreme is in the office but on the 3rd floor is having connection problems than you can imagine. All rooms have access points CAT5e who all meet in the basement. I have two spare Aiport express and two Apple TV that I would use. Also I bought a TP-LINK 1000mbps (16 channels) Network Switch.

Could someone please tell how the best set-up of my home network. For example, the Airport Express to the 3rd floor connected to the switch (wired) network or to an extreme in the Office? Apple TV also connected to the network switch?

I would like to end up with a solid wireless network that passes without problem from extreme to Express necessary each time you walk and you want to use an Apple TV for television on the ground floor and one in our room.

Many thanks and apologies once more for this very basic question... I have expanded my front (extreme Express) wireless network but just don't know how best to use the switch.

    Thank you

The simplest up set... which is almost always the best game in place... would be to connect the switch 16 ports to the modem/router and then connect devices to the switch. In other words, if your modem/router has 16 + Ethernet ports, the simplest network configuration would be to plug as many devices as possible directly to the modem/router.

Other variants are possible, for example, the network might look like this:

Internet > Modem/Router > AirPort Extreme > switch > devices... or, you can connect certain devices to ports Ethernet on the AirPort Extreme and some to the ports on the switch.  One thing to keep in mind however... If there is a problem... Troubleshooting may not be easy since it will be difficult to know where the problem actually lies.  Much easier to all have, or of possible devices, connect to the switch.

Unfortunately, the AirPort Express devices will be of real bottlenecks on your network.  These devices are notoriously slow as well as wireless, and even if they work well, the speed will be does not exceed 100 Mbps... since it's the speed of the port to the AirPort Express.  In fact, I expect each Express to provide a wireless signal in the range of 50-60 Mbps.

Another thing to keep in mind of the wireless network is that Macs will usually a good work of tilting automatically to the point of wireless to the other as moving from one place to the other in the House... but the iPhones, iPads, PCs, and other mobile devices will do that very well... If they do at all.

So with these devices, you will need to get used to temporarily disable the WiFi on the device and the device when you move in one region to the other, and then turn WiFi on must generally then pick up the signal from a nearby wireless access point.

  • Best practices on how to code to the document?

    Hello

I tried to search the web tutorials or examples, but could not get to anything. Can anyone summarize some of their best practices in order to document the LabVIEW code? I want to talk about a quite elaborate program, built with a state machine approach. It has many of the Subvi. Because it is important, that other people can understand my code, I guess that the documentation is quite large, but NEITHER has yet a tutorial for it. Maybe a suggestion ?

Thank you for your time! This forum has been a valuable Companion already!

    Giovanni

PS: I'm using LabVIEW 8.5 btw

    Giovanni,

    Always:

Fill in the "Documentation" in the properties of 'VI '.

Add description to the controls of its properties

    Long lines label

    Label algorithm, giving descriptions

Any code that can cause later confusion of the label.

Use the name bundle when clusters

Add a description tag in loops and cases. Describing the intention of the loop/case

Follow the good style guide as will make reading easy and intuitive vi.

I'm sure there are many others I can't think...

I suggest you to buy "LabVIEW style book", if you follow what this book teaches you will produce good code that is easy to maintain.

    Kind regards

  • Best practices for placing < meta > tags of the document HEAD

    Good afternoon

We use the ability of Oracle UCM to dynamically generate pages based on page templates, model region and data files of contributor contributors can edit and publish. We have a specific need to include meta tags in the head section of each page that are customized for the data present in each contributor data file. Including meta tags in the model of the region that relates to a section of our site Web do not work, because it does not include a < head > section. Otherwise, I can't put metatags in the page template, since the data contained in each meta tag are specific to the metadata surrounding each contributor of the data file.

My question is this: is there a best practice, or Oracle-taking method in charge of this task? I believe he remains the path to get there, as is a very common need for meta tags for search engines and social media sites.

  • Network traffic on the background traffic in basket

I wonder if anyone can help here... I have 4 hosts in a cluster connected to a San.

I noticed when copying data between the virtual computer is (even on the same subnet and host) the data leaves the host, knocks on the door and comes back.

How can I stop leaving the hosts/san to improve the speed of data transfer between virtual machines?

    Thank you very much.

P.S. the ESXi 5 storage and XIV.

You can configure up to 4 088 ports per host with 1 016 being active, if the limit is not a problem in your case. However, you may need to reconfigure the number of ports in the settings of vSwitch, which requires a reboot of the host in order to take effect. (for maximum configuration, see http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere5/r50/vsphere-50-configuration-maximums.pdf)

Port 3 groups (one for each VIRTUAL local area network) on the vSwitch, within each of the subnet traffic will remain intenally, while traffic between subnets required routing, i.e. let the host.

  • Best practices for p2v - when to stop the physical machine?

After you perform a p2v conversion, when should I stop the physical machine? By default, the virtual machine is turned off after the conversion and characterized by a DHCP address and not the static address that was on the physical machine... Why is this? Not the virtual machine is a duplicate... maybe it's a setting I'm missing the conversion.

Looking for a better practice for the p2v conversion process.

Using Virtual Center 2.5 and the converter built-in.

    Thank you, Rick

Hello and welcome to the forums.

I tend to do the conversion and to choose to not to turn on the virtual machine later.  Once the conversion is completed, I make changes on the hardware as needed and then make sure that "Connect at Power On" is not checked in the device status of the NICs.  Now you can power up to the virtual machine and do what you need to do to prepare (uninstall the old software, change HALs, etc.) without fear of being on the network with the same name or IP address.  Once everything is good in Event Viewer, Device Manager, etc. - I shut down the physical server and then turn on the virtual machine with a "wired" network adapter to test.

Another option would be to use the "Customize the identity of the virtual machine" option towards the end of the wizard import, if you need to be able to have the physical server and the virtual machine on the network at the same time.  This customization will give you virtual machine, a new name server and SID, and then you could just set it to a different IP address.

    Good luck!

  • Recommendations or best practices around change of the audio data on a network share?

I have several users editing audio located on the same network share. They are always complaining about the performance.  Is it a best practice to edit audio located on the network?  I see so many issues (latency time, possible corruption, etc.) with that from the computer SCIENCE point of view, but I would like the opinion of those more familiar with the application and its best practices.  Thanks in advance.

It's crazy! So that any audio to be edited with any degree of speed and security, it must be downloaded to a local computer, edited on that, and then the final result re-recorded on the network.

You might as well do this anyway - at the time wherever you make a change, you store a local version of the file temp on the editing machine, and it has real save, or save as who turned to the network drive. Also, you would be working on a copy, the original is still available in the case of the vis - is up, and would not be the case if you edit the original files directly on the network, so it is intrinsically safer.

  • Best practices for the services-config ADEP

I need to develop a services - config.xml to connect to my project of the ADEP LCD screens.  Are there best practices I should be informed regarding the ADEP / interaction of LCDs in that regard?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Mike. You can use the CRXDE Lite Editor to modify the services - config.xml for a Data Services application that is deployed on the server of the experience.

When you're in CRXDE Lite, go to:

    / etc/ASP/config/dataservices/services-config. XML

Open the services - config.xml, make your changes and click Save all.

After that, when you create a new 'Flex for ADEP experience Services' project in Flash Builder, the channelset-config information is copied in the services - config.xml in a config.xml file file - channelset is added to the directory of your Flex dataservices project and is also added to your project mxmlc compiler options.

  • [ADF, JDev12.1.3] Best practices for maintaining a form validation

    Hallo,

in my application, I need to create a registration form which contains fields that must be validated (for example they should follow a format like e-mail, phone number, tax code,...).

If the data inserted by the user are ok, a new record in my custom db table Users will be created.

I would like to know which are the best practices for maintaining the validation, which means the place where the controls must be made and a message to the user who fills out the form when something goes wrong.

The best vo or EO or managed bean? Or some controls should be put in the OS, others in the VO and other in the managed bean?

I would be happy if you could give me some examples.

    Thank you

    Federico

Assuming you want the validation on the value of the field to any screen data can be entered in (and possibly web services that rely on the same BC ADF) then put the validation on the definition of the attribute in the EO.

If you want to add a little more friendliness and eliminate some of the network traffic to the server, you can also implement the validation client in your page - for example by using the regular expression validator.

  • Traffic on the management ports load

Can someone tell me what traffic is running on the management port?  I install vsphere 5.1 with 3 hosts, vmotion and san iscsi drive. I intend to separate management traffic on a closed network of 1 GB in which the management ports will connect to a 1 GB switch which will have a port connected to the global network.  Use VMotion cela this port strongly with its activities?

The cluster will be slightly loaded with only 8 to 10 vm across all 3 four hosts of Quad Core processor.

I intend to connect with NICs 10Gb iscsi san and dedicated switch.

If I had to, I could use a 10G switch to the management network.

The individual virtual machine will be nic interfaces 1 Gb individual key of the network if necessary.

If you could tell me the documents that would also be appreceiated.

    any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Ken

"Best Practice" is said to have a network card dedicated to the management, and a dedicated for vmotion. Ideally different subnets / VLAN.

In smaller environments, but I often will create this:

vSwitch0 with 2 network cards (if everything goes well on the cards separated/asics) and with the management and vmotion vmkernel port. It works very well, thank you very much despite sometimes described as not "best practices." Well - I think that the concern is that in situations of heavy vmotion (especially when storage vmotion is concerned) traffic management could be hampered/flooded. I just never saw him in the real world, although in environments with more than 4-5 guests I always put in place in accordance with the "best practices" just because...

vswitch 1 with 2 maps, 2 vmkernel ports (each with its own ip address) for iSCSI

vswitch 2 with 2 (or more) network cards and however many ports of VM / VLANS are necessary.

(just to be clear, the 'best practice' would vswitch 0 with 2 network cards and 2 vmkernel ports that configured in the management and the other as vmotion.) Each nic will be dedicated to a vmkernel, but available failover for others...)
