  It sounds like you have a corrupted for your user to administrator user profile.

• Big problems!

  Twelve hours in thought and I I could post a question and see if anyone could help. Looks like I've got a classic problem, but the classic fix doesn't seem to work. CID mismatch error. I've corrected the only divergence, but my always won VM would start.

  Cannot open disk ' / vmfs/volumes/4e09e27a-1efbddf1-bdad-f46d040fe65a/ThunderDC02/ThunderDC02-000004.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.
  The virtual disk parent has changed since the child was created. The content of the virtual disk ID parent does not match the ID of parent for children's content

  I lived the vmdk files over and over and over and the CIDs all match (only one was out of whack at first). (attached)

  In any case, we will try to solve this problem (it can worsen in any case).

  • Right-click of the virtual machine in the inventory of the ESXi host and select "remove from inventory.
  • From the command line run:
    CD/vmfs/volumes/4e09e27a-1efbddf1-bdad-f46d040fe65a/ThunderDC02
    DD if = ThunderDC02 - flat hard = ThunderDC02-Clone - flat hard bs = 1048576 count = 40960
    This will copy the first 40 GB of the virtual disk resized in a new file (ThunderDC02-Clone - flat hard).
  • Once finished, unzip it and upload the files attached on the data store. These files will contain the file .vmx (pointing to 000006.vmdk) as well as the fixed instant string).
  • Right-click on the .vmx file and select "add to the inventory.
  • Create a new snapshot (optional)
  • Turn on the virtual machine

  If your virtual machine works as expected, run 'Delete All' in the Snapshot Manager and be patient. Due to large snapshots, merge the data in the basic disk can take a long time (maybe a few hours, depending on your speed of drive).
