BIOS does not blink.

Hello world

I had a few difficulties to latley with a number of things that I'm sure are related to my BIOS so I wanted put up-to-date.  Yet, for my ever growing unhappiness, the BIOS simply does not blink.  I tried everything on the site of HP but also using the support Wizard several times.  The msinfo32 window always says that I still have the old version.  I went to the actuall of BIOS Setup to verify if it was maybe just a problem with msinfo32 update but the BIOS was also the old version.  The version I have now is the F.01_M1.  My computer is a Pavilion dv6 select edition.  Product WF356AV number.

On another slightly related note: does anyone know how get the stop trying to PXE boot whenever I start my computer?  Not a big deal I just want to cut some time off the coast of startup.

Thank you very much

MB

Hey everybody,

I found a solution to this problem and wanted to share it.

It turns out that it was a problem of hard drive after all. Simply, I renamed my HP_TOOLS partition (which contains the files for the system diagnostics and BIOS updates) HP_TOOLSBAK and runs the utility to update again.

After that, I used the UEFI BIOS HP, which is available on the Web site of their support and drivers, to remake this partition after the removal of one (with diskmgmt.msc). If you do this remember that you must also run the UEFI system diagnostics to get these files back.

Don't forget that when you redo the partitions that they appear not in Explorer until you return in diskmgmt.msc and right-click the partition and assign it a letter.

Thanks to all who have responded to this topic and I'm sorry for the long wait for a reply post.

Sincerely,
MB

P.S. I have absolutely no help from HP on this issue.  Repeated debates with representatives were not at all useful.  If HP ever wants me to buy another one of their products they had better to begin supporting some tech for people who have a moderate knowledge of computers and are genuinley problems.  Not only a script for people who can't find the button.

    Hi there @JRGJAX,

The following is helpful to understand what are the codes of error/blink. Of what you say about your problem, I am sure that it will come not surprising that two flashes indicates corrupted BIOS.

Computer does not start and the lights blink or the computer will beep

See the following topics in a way that we can restore your BIOS, one understands it Windows + B, but read the instructions carefully, it is possible that it could be a timing issue. I hope it helps.

    Restore the BIOS

If you need to recover the BIOS with an external device, then you will need.

    Support UEFI HP environment

It is not as useful for you now, as it assumes that your computer can boot up normally, but I included it for the sake of completeness and for later use.

No idea how I can Flash the bios?

Equium U400 is not supported by Win, so I don t think you could improve the BIOS to win 8.

As much as I know BIOS update requires some essential Toshiba software that must be installed.
For example, the value of Toshiba additional package must be installed in order to start the update of the BIOS.
I think you have goo channes update of the BIOS of the laptop running with factory settings. I mean using the system preinstalled by Toshiba.

But why you want to update the BIOS?
BIOS should be updated as a last possibility to solve the problems of the laptop.

  • T500 BIOS update v3.00 - 1.03 THAT bootable CDROM does not blink

The model is a CTO 2081 running Windows Vista SP1 x 64. Downloaded and burned to a CDROM image 6fuj30uc.iso. According to the instructions, I tried to install the hotfix as required by MS KB 937500 but it does not settle, saying that the update does not apply to this system. Even if the system is a T500 instead of a W500, I also upgraded the switchable graphics driver as mentioned in the Readme.

The BIOS boot options have the CD/DVD as first boot device. Any protection for the BIOS password has been deleted.

Start with the CDROM of the results in a black screen with a cursor blinking in the upper left. BIOS does not get flashed. Neither a menu appears to provide me with options to read the help or to Flash the BIOS.

BIOS remains to be 6FET56WW (2.02).

    Hello

You have problems with the laptop?
If not then why you want to do the BIOS? Just because the new BIOS is released?
I would not change anything if my laptop is running correctly.

However, the update of the BIOS requires the VAP (value added package).
So remember that this PPV is installed correctly. If this isn't the case, so far.

  • Satellite Pro A30: after disk HARD replacing the BIOS does not see DVD or HARD disk

    Hello

I bought a new Pro A30 of Satellite earlier.
Shortly after, I noticed the system sometimes
would freeze, with a rattling of the HD.
A reboot cold was the only solution.
I was told to replace the HD I did but the
problem persisted with the new HD.

I tried a known working HD and the problem still persisted.
At this point, the warranty period has increased.
Frost started happening more regularly, and
now, the BIOS does not recognize the HD player or DVD.
It starts and then try to boot from the network,
because he doesn't have a HD or DVD player.

At this point, I think I need a new system board.

    Hello

What happens if you remove the CD/DVD drive or the HARD drive?
The laptop recognizes one of these devices?
Have you used the devices recommended by Toshiba?

  • Satego x 200-BIOS does not detect SSD but windows 7 for OS usage

need help here, I got the latest bios 2.50 and my bios does not detect the SSD but an I start windows 7 from my hard drive it is detected and I want to use the ssd as boot drive, please help

    Hello

Which SSD drive you have exactly?
I also think it s a compatibility problem between the HARD disk controller (motherboard) and the current SSD drive.

So you should check if you have the latest firmware of the SSD drive and if it of possible, try another disc SSD of a friend, for example.

By the way: have you tried to load the default settings in the BIOS?

  • Satellite L355 - dreaded blue screen - Bios does not end

    I have a new Satellite L355.
Sometimes at startup I get the DBS.

Otherwise said, the bios does not end and the screen is blank.
Laptop repair center replaced the motherboard twice, but I still have the problem.
I found that if I turn off the power and remove the battery, I can start very well after the replacement of the battery.

Does anyone know why the battery clears the problem?
Toshiba technical support often has a user that to clear a trouble report. They must know something.

    Thank you, jack

    > Occasionally when booting I get the DBS

That would mean that this sometimes happens from time to time but not always
    Is this good?

I think that it of difficult to say what's going wrong here because the question is not always happens... so it is difficult to replicate it
Usually if the POST (power on self-test) cannot transmit properly then that would mean that a material error has been detected somewhere on the map

Maybe you should check if the laptop using the latest version of the BIOS.
If a new BIOS has been published, then you should try to update.

  • Satellite 2800 - BIOS does not recogize Toshiba 40 GB HARD drive

I have an old Toshiba S2800 (if-200 questions in total). He was works very well with a 10 GB HARD drive for ages. Yesterday, I thought that putting his hard drive to a bigger.
Removed the old and installed a new hard drive, Toshiba MK4026GAX. On the power on the BIOS does not detect the HARD drive at all. I can hear the humming noise (platter (s) rotating), but apart from that, there is nothing. The BIOS indicates disk mode HARD is "unused" and also on page 2 is none shown on the primary hard disk IDE channel. (tried to boot Linux from a CD to see if who sees anything on the IDE channel, but apparently the primary IDE channel is disabled if the BIOS does not detect a master or a slave connected device). Change the mode of the master to the slave na HARD drive? t change a thing.
The BIOS version is 2.00. Tried to find an older one without success.

I thought that the BIOS has a limit of 32GB, but when I connect a 120 GB hard drive (WD scorpio), it has been recognized by the BIOS and the PC was ready to boot from the device.

I would have thought computers laptop Toshiba were at least compatible with another device (e.g. hard drive) Toshiba

Someone has any idea how to operate?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

It of very strange that the 120 GB HDD has worked on your old Satellite 2800 unit.
I know that the BIOS would not recognize these large HARD drive sizes.

In any case, seems the purchased disk is not compatible with your laptop and you can buy one that is supported.
I discovered that the 20 GB HDD MK2016GAP could be compatible

This makes me think that maybe it's not the player after all, maybe the onboard IDE / motherboard.

I'm kinda stuck, so it's a new drive should work fine, and I have no way to test the motherboard.

The only difference is that the insulation on the original drive sleeve should be reduced by half.

    Hello

What happens if the HARD drive is not connected to the motherboard? The BIOS recognize the CD/DVD drive correctly?

You bought the HARD drive compatible? To my knowledge the Mobile supports a HARD drive with interface IDE (ATA-5) increased.

    Hello

You replaced the HARD drive by a new one or the BIOS don't recognize the old HDD?

Usually if the laptop is not able to start and that the BIOS does not see the old HDD then I guess that the HARD drive is faulty.
If the BIOS doesn't recognize the inserted new HARD drive and then either you ve bought is not compatible, or the size of the HARD drive is just too big.

    Hello

This site is NOT for an mSATA SSD. It's a location miniPCIe for a TV tuner. I saw some people modding the BIOS, it could be used as a slot mSATA, but I don't think it would work on your laptop. The only successful modding has been reported on some HP ENVY 15-3000 with generation processors Intel first. However, I can help you with the list of authorization for incompatible wifi. That can be removed and users can use any wireless card they want.

  • X 201 WLAN LED does not blink. Is this normal?

Hello, I just got a ThinkPad X 201 (this is my third ThinkPad). As expected, this is a great machine and I'm pretty impressed with its performance, despite its size.

However, I noticed that the WIFI does not blink - my two other ThinkPads done - it. Is this normal? I have not noticed any problems with conectivity.

Also, I am interested in the WWAN upgrade (this machine is expandable WWAN). The maintenance manual contained the F3507g Ericsson as a proper map. I'm lucky to have this one in my other ThinkPad, but when I tried to install the X 201 rejected saying its not allowed. How can I find out what other cards listed in the manual is really compatible with the model?

    WLAN-LED:

    1. Run regedit
    2. GoTo HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
    3. Search from there for your wireless network card f.ex "6200 agn' (see in Device Manager)
As search result you will get for example:
      "\0007 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E972-E325-11CEBFC1-08002BE10318}.
You will find additional keys like "DriverDesc", "DriverVersion", "Ada" etc.
    4. Create a RegDWord named 'LedMode '.
    5. set its value to one of the following:
    • 0 = always off LED
    • 1 = led on and blinks then that traffic
    • 2 = always on LED

deactivate and activate your WLAN device in Device Manager.

On some Thinkpads "LedMode" - entry is missing - so it must be created manually
