black screen on HP Pavilion laptop

After installing an update from Microsoft, my HP laptop suddenly went black and would not restart.
Have tried rebooting in safe mode and may come to the point where I chose "start in safe mode" but the laptop does not start.
The screen stays black, but there seems to be something in the hard drive.
Is there a way to fix this without spending on the recovery disks and lose all my data?

If Safe Mode does not and you do not have a Vista DVD from Microsoft, do a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you need to save the data and reinstall.
Data recovery:
1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

Download the Vista software from the link above.

After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

See you soon.

    The last attempt to resume the system from its previous location failed. Attempt to resume again?

    With the 2 following options:

    Please notify.

    Thank you very much!

    Hello

    I think that in this case, you will have to choose the second option - "Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu" and see if that fixes the problem.  If all etc. documents you had open before hibernation were saved, then you should not lose anything.  If there are unsaved changes (for example if you have added to a document), the file will be to the point that his last record and you lose additional data.

  • Satellite A105-S4114 - black screen, maybe the heating problem?

    Hey all

    I'm new to the Board and I really hope that someone can help me with my computer problems.
    I have a Toshiba Satellite A105-S4114. In the last week or so, it started to get a black screen. If I m in the middle of watching a video, the sound would just go to a repetitive tone (very annoying sound) and the screen freezes completely.

    He sometimes goes to a black screen. The screen is not black as if the CPU is off but it's dark and nothing is displayed. This occurs when the computer has been for a little. I have had it over 2 hours now, and if this problem persists, it will happen more frequently. I've updated all the software and windows xp. Some people tell me that my motherboard is dying and I can't do anything, but some people say maybe it's an overheating problem.

    The vent on the left hand does not always give off light, but the laptop gets hot enough. Is it possible that my fan is dying? In the case of this "black screen", the computer is not power down and for this reason, I ve people had told me that he is not an overheating problem.

    Any ideas?

    Help, please. I sprayed the CPU down to the dust, and it has gotten a little better. I hold hope that I don't need to buy a replacement right away. I've had this for about 3 years.

    Thank you, Danny.

    Hey mate,

    I think that for the moment no one can really say what the reason, but I also think it might be an overheating problem and you should start cleaning your laptop first. The point is that if the laptop is overheated (e. g. graphics card), you might get a black screen, freezes or your laptop stops immediately. So if please try to clean and follow these instructions: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD7A01ZZ000AR01.htm

    Of course it could also be a motherboard problem but the laptop cleaning is cheaper and quicker ;)

    If it doesn t work you can access a service provider authorized professional assistance.

  • Windows Update - black screen of death

    I have a notebook Compal FL90 (now several years old) with Windows Vista (32 bit) installed. June 28, I ran Windows Update that downloaded 3 updates (one of whom was a new user agreement?), which then forced me to restart my machine to update the installation.  However, when my machine attempted to restart to complete the installation, nothing happened, just a black screen Uni.

    From tent to install updates my laptop has completely stopped working. No BIOS screen (Phoenix?), no user logon option Windows etc - just a black screen Uni. The laptop is turned on (pluging experienced in the sector and battery operation), the fans whurr upward, but that's all. I tried hitting F8 (and all the other 'F' keys) to try to load the BIOS but nothing. I even tried switching on the laptop with the Windows Vista CD and the main driver CD (which came with the laptop) in the disk drive, but nothing, just black screen - total and absolute collapse.

    Aside from the replacement of the machine, someone has useful suggestions on how I can get Windows to reboot (even the option of SafeMode at this stage would be a blessing)?

    Thank you

  • Pavilion dv6 - 3227cl laptop entertainment puts but has only a black screen

    HP Pavilion DV6 - 3227cl Entertainment Notebook, which is about 2 years old and works on Windows 7 Home Premium, AMD Vision Premium, will to power, but not start.  The fan works and the "caps lock" flashes once approximately every 4 seconds, but all I get is a black screen with no error message or the cursor.  There are no beeps.  The power led lights (white) for about a second, then turns to a dim orange when the battery is installed, but remains white when the battery is removed.  However, the two lights (I'm not sure what they are for) next to the nearest port USB power light lights up as follows: one on the left (as you are looking at the right side of the laptop) is white; the right one is orange.  Both are fully illuminated, (not vaguely that the power light).  The power light is not as bright as the other indicator white located near the USB port.  The laptop started and seemed to be running once since this problem started, but I was not able to start again.  I'm told the battery is bad (it's my brother in law book), but it is possible that the problem is with the power source rather than the processor or motherboard?  I appreciate your comments/advice about this.  Thank you.

    Hi fejevitzky,

    Your question, "according to that, I think you're telling me you don't think it's the BIOS - is that correct?" Yes, as long as you don't see any "white" light reveals LCD bezel back while with the State of the white screen. Bezel LCD's coverage around LCD, most design put modeule LED in the lower corner next to the LCD. While the backlight is not during the boot sequence, which means system doesn't have chance to get BIOS current enforcement program. It also means, he stuck to the condition of the equipment to set up. Normally this motherboard related.

    B_S2

    Hello;

    Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

    As it works OK in safe mode, then it's SOMETHING that is loaded at startup which is screw up the display.  Could be a runtime program. could be drivers, might be a Service.

    No easy way to tell.

    Demarrer start in safe mode, type MSCONFIG in the start area.  When that opens, turn off ALL startup items. Reset.

    The PC now work, if one (or more) of these numbers - and you have to go through a tedious process of re-enabling them one at a time until the PC fails again.  The last of them that you re-activated was the problem.

    Here is a tutorial on how to do it: http://www.howtogeek.com/74523/how-to-disable-startup-programs-in-windows/

    If the PC still does not work with all startup items disabled, then return to msconfig and click on the Services tab.  Check the hide services Ms.  Then turn off half superior Services.  Reset.

    If the problem is resolved, you will need to go through a tedious process of reactivating a Service at a time until you find the one that is the problem.

    If the problem is not resolved, turn off the other half of the services.  Repeat as above.

    No easy way to do...

    Good luck

  • New Hp pavilion touchsmart shows a black screen after login

    I just bought a new Hp pavilion computer printer portable all-in-one laptop / tablet that runs windows 8. It worked perfectly well until now.

    The laptop starts fine, the hp displayed logo and the login screen is displayed. After that I entered the password, it begins to load but then becomes just a black screen. My cursor is visible, but nothing else happens.

    I restarted the laptop several times. Help, please. Thank you.

    Hi all

    Please use F11, press it all right after the startup of the device. Press several times to ensure that you access the Recovery Manager.

    Then, when you're there, select the language in the first screen and then "troubleshooting." Then select advanced options. In this menu, select System Restore, to restore your system to a date before the show began.

    In case you have no restore points, in the section "Troubleshooting" menu, select "System Refresh", it reinstalls the system without erasing your data.

    In which case you can start in safe mode, try to search for a program called "SearchProtect" and if you find it, try to uninstall it.

    Let me know the results of the above suggestions.

    Thank you

    I'm guessing that you have reinstalled Windows from a DVD, right?

    Your PC came with a version of HP OEM of Windows preinstalled, and it is the only version guaranteed to work on this unit.

    You should consider reinstalling using HP recovery media to operate again.  It's a set of DVD and a CD that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, applications and settings, reinstall the original OS, drivers and utilities for HP. In some cases, you will be able to order a USB instead of discs.  You must order at HP; they cannot be downloaded.

    You can look online for recovery from the paged media related: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

    Once there, enter your product name or number. On your software page and download the drivers, select your operating system and version. Click on "Update".  If the HP recovery support is available for your computer, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for the command Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click on the symbol '+' to expand this entty and click on order to press for more details.

    Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

    If you live in the United States or the Canada, details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

    If you live elsewhere, contact details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

    Note that if HP no longer provides a recovery media for your model, a few other sites, you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

    Don't forget to read through the material in the linked thread before attempting the recovery: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00707939

    Good luck

  • HP Pavilion g7 Notebook black screen at startup (freezing applications)

    Hey everybody,

    I use a laptop laptop HP Pavilion g7 running on Windows 7 Home Premium (64 - bit, 6.1 Build 7601).

    Processor: Intel Core i3 CPU M 380 @ 2.53 GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.5GHz

    Memory: 4096 MB RAM

    I use this laptop for two years and this is the first time I have encountered this problem.

    The problem:

    Whenever I turn on my computer, it goes to start normally.  Before the connection with my user name appears, there is a pure black screen on during about 5 minutes before.  During this time, all I can see is my move move.  Whenever I can finally connect, I wait until it has finished start up and continue to open an application.

    Whenever I was able to open an application, it will run for about 3 minutes, but then everything freezes.  After the use of CTRL-ALT-DELETE, I see a message on a black screen that says "Failure to display security and stop options." He then told me to press ESC or press the power button.  If I press ESC, the laptop is still frozen. If I press the power button, I go through the same process over and over again.

    Even with the SafeMode (Networking), I get a black screen for a few minutes before being able to see my username on the login screen. Fortunately, Safe Mode works very well.

    I ran scans using Norton and Malbytes, found tracking cookies and malware and removed them, but my laptop is still the same.

    I don't know what to do. I hope someone can help me solve this problem.

    Thank you!

  • HP Pavilion 14-n059TX: black screen

    Hello!

    I have a problem with my HP laptop Windows running 8.1. At first, when I go to the computer setting, he showed that this app can not open. File Explorer is running with administrator privileges. Restart the Explorer of files normally and try again. I thought it was told me to restart the computer. So I restart my laptop, but after that, he showed me the black screen and a blinking cursor. I tried a solution to remedy, but it won't work. Can someone help me with this?

    Hi @LeonValentine,

    Welcome to the HP support community!

    I read that you have a problem with the file Explorer on your HP Pavilion Notebook 14-n059tx and some applications not working not properly. To restart Explorer. Press Ctrl + SHIFT + ESC to open the Task Manager, locate the Windows Explorer, right-click and select restart, and then restart your computer and see if it helps.

    You may need to turn on network discovery. Here is something that shows you how to do this, it is Windows 8, but it works the same.

    You can try to use the Windows Update Troubleshooter to fix updates that do not come through Windows.  Please restart the laptop twice to make sure that all updates are completed!

    Please get back to me how that happens.

    If you want to say thanks for my effort to help, click on thumbs upward to give me a Kudos.

    Thank you.
